Feb '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Here we Go!

So our first official weigh-in won't be until Monday, but I thought it would be a good idea to get this thread up, so that we can all start thinking and prepping for it. This is especially important for those of you who are new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (although it's possible that @FinallyHere might be posting an updated one later)

You'll see that it's divided into three sections, which reflects the fact that for some of us, this Bootcamp is a continuation of the Dry January challenge.

From Monday, the next Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks.

If you're just joining us anew, then it's important that you follow Bootcamp properly, i.e. the first two weeks will be strict, before you relax into Bootcamp Light in Week 3 (if you want to.). For anyone who has been with us for the January challenge, it's entirely up to you how you take part. You can, if you wish, do the next two weeks as strict Bootcamp, or you can continue with Bootcamp Light.

Back from Step class ( and a Costa coffee stop ) weighed in this morning at 11-05 so 8lb off since the start of January , I’m so pleased , thanks for doing this @BIWI and the team
I was a@applecrumbleand custard , but name changed in Jan , happy to be on the spreadsheet wherever it’s easiest @FinallyHere

RooRooCooChoo · 05/02/2024 09:50

Oooh, the scales were not kind to me this morning. Really emphasising that I need to learn how to consume carbs in moderation if and when I decide I'm going to step off the waggon, rather than indulging in carb-binging behaviour which then calls for a strict BC diet to get back into line. However, feeling enthused and raring to go. Today's plan is:

L: prawn cocktail and Greek salad
D: duck breast with buttery broccoli and salad

TheOnlyMrsW · 05/02/2024 09:52

Morning lovely bootcampers!!! Just setting off from a fab but extremely alcoholic weekend, a good time was had and food was actually good but will see where I'm at tomorrow morning when I weigh in, I definitely know that I've had a few days of putting the wrong things in my system!!!

Need to do a meal plan and food shop when we get home and planning to be very strict!!!

Goal for this BC is to get 11 stone........we have a trip Germany in early April and would like to get into a pair of jeans for it 🤞

Goodiewhemper · 05/02/2024 10:03

Good morning everyone. Signing in for the start of this BC at 172lbs (78.2kg) which is diwn .8lb from last week. My initial aim is 75kg and then to work towards 70kg. I would really love to do strict BC for the first two weeks but suspect a mix will be more sustainable due to my work schedule.

I have just had my coffee with a splash of cream and will have an egg and a slice of low carb bread mid morning. Lunch today will be leftover chicken drumsticks and salad with avocado. I have not decided on dinner yet but I have chicken and lamb defrosting for a bit of batch cooking later. I also plan on making a batch of roasted veg soup.

Hope you all have a fabulous low carb day. 😀

QforCucumber · 05/02/2024 10:18

added my weigh just now - weighing in at 173, I'd bloody love 10lbs off before end of March and a total of 20ish off by the time we go away in May - then I won't need to buy a whole new wardrobe hah! lets see how we go.

Buttery scrambled eggs with a creamy coffee for breakfast, 500ml sparkling water done already.

AIBConsiderate · 05/02/2024 11:35

Good morning! Well I sure am glad that I didn't cave to the sugar cravings last night in the end - woke up to a 2lb loss this morning and I've officially lost a stone since the new year. I'm absolutely made up.

Only 0.4lb to go till the next stone bracket, and my reward will be a lovely new plant pot - I pulled the trigger early and bought some cheap hyacinths from Lidl over the weekend, but they're in need of something lovely to go in
Just picked up some reduced diced lamb so will have a think about how to turn it into dinner.

FairlyOddmother · 05/02/2024 11:47

Morning all, thanks for the new boot camp. Amazingly, I have lost 1lb since last week, which I'm sure I don't deserve as I succumbed to booze over the weekend and ate a sausage roll (which I thoroughly enjoyed). I definitely have a weakness for pastry 😣

Goal is to get to 12st and also fit into some new trousers. Onwards and downwards...

LondonLovie · 05/02/2024 12:25

Have just stumbled across the LC BC!

Excited as I have restarted my health journey this Feb, having put on 4kg over Xmas.

I've been going it alone but find I'm always highly motivated by a group effort!

I do high protein & veg, medium fat and low carb. Also love strength training and little bit of yoga when I have time 🏋️

mimosa1 · 05/02/2024 12:26

Hello all,

Reporting in for the new BC. Had dinner made for me last night by my elderly father which was quite carby so am determined today will be on plan as we kick off a new BC.

My goal for this BC is threefold : 1) stick with it until the end ! 2) minimize the damage during a week's skiing in Italy next week 3) get below 75kg (ideally under 70 but i don't think I'll be able to lose 10kg in 8 weeks...)

pinknsparkly · 05/02/2024 13:14

Hi all. I somehow lost a rather undeserved 0.8lb in the week between bootcamps and am raring to go! Tonight's dinner plans of creamy garlic chicken are being postponed as my husband and 3 year old have LOTS of left over home made pizza from yesterday that they want for tea. So I think I'll have a bit of a fridge tapas - avocado, salad bits, left over pizza toppings (cured meats and cheese)

cathyandclaire · 05/02/2024 13:31

Hello all! Signing in- but my weight will is pure guesswork as no scales here on holiday.

I've pretty much stuck to low carb, although I suspect some sugar has been in salad dressings, and last night's calamari had definitely been dusted with flour. I'll put down my weight from the end of January and hope for the best!

I want to lose 4lb but first aim is 2lb by March so my ski trousers fit!

Redhothoochycoocher · 05/02/2024 14:20

Thanks @BIWI

Apologies in advance as I find the thread moves faster than I am able to keep up with.

I've lost 6/7lbs doing this WOE since the start of Jan. My mini goal set in the last bootcamp in Jan was for my work trousers to fit tighter and to lose 5lbs. Reacher both of those and I am very excited for the next couple of months.

I booked our summer hol this morning and I'm looking forward to getting a new cozzie in a few months!

If anyone is struggling for recipe ideas, I've tried a few on the freshwell app and can recommend. It's not as strict on ingredients as @BIWI so just be mindful of that.

Looser! Not tighter 🤦🏻‍♀️

Almahart · 05/02/2024 14:22

Hallo - had brunch of a cheese omelette with salad, dinner tbc but probably cauliflower cheese. Determined to stop messing about with BC and do it as designed for the next 8 weeks, would love to lose the half stone that is stopping me getting into my favourite clothes

bluesupermoon · 05/02/2024 15:20

A small additional loss for me between finishing the last BC and starting today. Had a few carbs over the weekend - the lentils & carbier veg were worth it, not sure the chips and bread were. But no sugar (don't drink anyway) and I'm happy to be back on BC today.

PurpleWhirple · 05/02/2024 16:51

2.4lbs off this week which feels undeserved given my Saturday night slip up but I will take it and I know I stuck to the plan perfectly for the rest of the week so maybe it could have been even better.

I'm going to stick with proper bootcamp during the week and allow myself some BC lite exceptions at the weekends, like the odd glass of Sauvignon.

Food today:
Lunch was leftover saag paneer and butter chicken
Tea will be lasagne, made yesterday with dehydrated courgettes as the pasta layer, and a sauce made from double cream, extra mature cheddar and lemon juice. Loads of veg in the sauce too.

Not done well enough on the water today but there's time to fix that

Understanding that hunger is driven by hormones was a major, major 'wow' for me. Like most people (everyone?!) I thought being hungry meant that my stomach was empty.

In the Western/developed world, empty-stomach-hunger between meals is pretty rare - it's the combination/interrelation between insulin/grehlin/leptin that means we feel the need to eat. Once these are in balance - and this is what a low carb diet helps us to achieve - you really won't be hungry between meals; you may even find that you're not hungry at mealtimes. A real revelation for me.

And this, of course, is what helps us to avoid snacking and also, if you wish, to fast.

Our mantra on Bootcamp has always been/always will be to 'eat if you're hungry' - as long as it's low carb, obviously! - but if you aren't hungry, then there's no need to eat. This is why many people cut out breakfast, or eat very little at other mealtimes.

This is really interesting @BIWI. I’m going to do some research around the hormones that drive our desire to eat.

Grateful for any links you may have.

blackteaplease · 05/02/2024 17:29

Excellent dinner tonight , I'm so full. Shepherds pie with carrot and swede topping accompanied by buttered cabbage.

750 mls water left to drink still. Must get drinking.

Great, thank you @LC4life

good to have you on board

@AIBConsiderate

Glad to hear your resistance to sugar cravings were rewarded. Halo

FinallyHere · 05/02/2024 19:15

Just for info, the SofF (for people joining now) is undergoing some minor repairs. I'd be grateful if anyone would hang fire on letting me know about any issues til i post again that I think I've cracked it.

Had to get out a pencil and eraser to do the workings out. That hadn't happened to me for a while. Loading....

Baystard · 05/02/2024 19:54

Just checking in, for accountability, and reporting 100% strict BC compliance today. A little more milk than I'd like (alot of tea) and a bit too much Srlsly LC bread, but otherwise good.

FinallyHere · 05/02/2024 20:34

Thank you very much for your patience, lovely people of this bootcamp while I tinkered with the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. I've wiped an oily rag across the New Joiners for February section, so it works for the weeks in February.

I'll extend it and come back to reinstate the original start and tracking against original start: frankly I was under teh impression I'd already got this sorted. Soz.
