Feb '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Here we Go!

So our first official weigh-in won't be until Monday, but I thought it would be a good idea to get this thread up, so that we can all start thinking and prepping for it. This is especially important for those of you who are new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (although it's possible that @FinallyHere might be posting an updated one later)

You'll see that it's divided into three sections, which reflects the fact that for some of us, this Bootcamp is a continuation of the Dry January challenge.

From Monday, the next Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks.

If you're just joining us anew, then it's important that you follow Bootcamp properly, i.e. the first two weeks will be strict, before you relax into Bootcamp Light in Week 3 (if you want to.). For anyone who has been with us for the January challenge, it's entirely up to you how you take part. You can, if you wish, do the next two weeks as strict Bootcamp, or you can continue with Bootcamp Light.

@LowCarbingIn2024 updated OK

ColinRobinsonsFart · 04/02/2024 21:39

I need to bow out before I start - shit has hit the fan and it looks like I won't be able to follow any diet for a while.

I hope to be back by next month

Good luck

Thank you @FinallyHere

Thank you so much @BIWI and @FinallyHere

I'm mortified to confess that I was so happy to get to the end of January, I wavered in a really big way.... drank ton of booze over 3 nights and also dived into an unopened box of chocolates we had before Christmas.
Amazingly, I've only put on 1lb. I know I deserve a big-stick pasting.
And I can't seem to add onto the spreadsheet.
Would someone mind doing for me? I'm 211 today.

@StuntNun I have 2 idiotic IF questions if you don't mind.

  1. Is it ok to only do IF-ing (16:8) 3 or 4 days a week?
  2. This is probably a REALLY dumb question 😳 on days I IF, I don't eat till 10ish, but then have breakfast. Lunch at lunchtime and an early dinner, so I'm still eating 3 meals a day.
Is that wrong? Should I be aiming for 2? Or even just 1? Many thanks for the benefit of your knowledge 🙏

Good luck to everyone

  1. Yes. There are benefits from as little as three fourteen-hour fasts per week.
  2. You can still have three meals in your eating window if that's what works for you. If you're trying to lose weight then two meals would probably be better but it's going to depend on what you're eating. If you're only having a couple of boiled eggs for breakfast, for example, then you'll need three meals. If you're having a substantial first meal of the day then two meals will be plenty.

The Low Carb Bootcamp should really be called a Low Insulin Bootcamp as it works by lowering insulin levels and keeping them consistently low. Every time you eat something or drink anything other than water, it spikes your insulin. So you can keep your insulin low by reducing your food frequency, i.e. the number of times you eat per day. That's why @BIWI will start nagging people over their snacks in a couple of weeks. Wink It's much better for you to have two large meals than three small meals. It isn't solely about the calorie intake.

SummerSazz · 04/02/2024 22:44

#slopesbackin 😳

I've missed the last couple of boot camps and the scales know it.... I have a medical booked in April and then a few days in the sun so need to get sorted out for both! 👙 ☀️

Hopefully the accountability will get me back on the straight and narrow 🤞

LowCarbingIn2024 · 04/02/2024 23:05

Thank you so much @StuntNun
That's interesting.

I tend to have a small amount of ffgy and cream which I eat with celery or toms or cucumber as breakfast.

But I'll keep all you've said in mind.

Thank you x

Morning everyone!
weighed in at 152.2 so 2lbs up which is better than I thought given the skiing stodge & booze plus minimum water. I’m off skiing again on Saturday (catered so no choices). I’m currently craving vegetables!!
Another issue is my blasted hormones. Had the mirena fitted at Xmas as constantly bleeding but it’s not kicked in yet so I feel like I’m on a constant period with tummy ache and bloating. Im so tired of it! Unfortunately LCing doesn’t make a difference.
I arrived home last night and no clue what’s in the fridge - DH hasn’t done a shop so I doubt there’ll be any veggies! He’s very much a carnivore. So today I’ll do a plan for this week that’s veg heavy and get back on track. Think I’ll have a booze free week too.

Metabolicallycomplicated · 05/02/2024 06:59

Morning campers - I’ve been KOKO in between boot camps and I’m currently at 19st 10lbs down from 20st 7lbs at the start of Jan which is brilliant for me. With PCOS and everything else, low carb is basically the only way I can eat and lose any weight at all so even though it’s slow going, it is at least going!

Skiphopbump · 05/02/2024 07:05

Morning all.

Thanks @BIWI and @FinallyHere for running bootcamp again.

I did this with great success last year but gave up when I had a bout of ill health last year. I’ve recovered from my surgery and am ready to go again.
Last year I really enjoyed swimming but don’t have the motivation to get back into that as it’s just too cold. Have got back into going to the gym and am trying to walk a lot.

I’m currently 270.2lb and would love to get under 250lbs - not sure I’ll make it this bootcamp but will give it a go!

Good luck everybody.

Skiphopbump · 05/02/2024 07:08

@FinallyHere I’ve added my weight to the spreadsheet and it’s gone a bit wrong as total loss is now my current weight.

FinallyHere · 05/02/2024 07:10

@Skiphopbump thank you for letting me know I'm having a look now

Whicker · 05/02/2024 07:11

Good luck everyone! Coffee with cream on the go, and my water bottle is full and ready. I’m not weighing, but am looking forward to the first marker of LCBC for me, which is a sudden reduction of face puffiness on about day 4!

poorbuthappy · 05/02/2024 07:13

Morning! A pound up today from last weeks end of Jan boot camp. Not a surprise as I broke dry Jan on Friday night with wine and spent a lot of the weekend out the house without all the water.
Back on it today.

merchdrist · 05/02/2024 07:28

Morning!
Just logged my weight into the spreadsheet. Probably 5lbs heavier than where I thought I was, which was already a stone heavier than I should be.

I've been suffering from bloating for the last week or so, so my short term win will be losing that horrible bloating feeling.

I also need to make sure I keep reminding myself that I lose weight slowly, so 1lb a week loss will be fine!

Fridge all prepped with butter, meat, eggs and chopped veggies to make sure I've no excuse for knocking up a quick meal.

Quick question - is sparkling water ok?

Frumpyunicorn · 05/02/2024 07:48

Morning all, I am weighing in and have updated the spreadsheet, @FinallyHere 0lease can I be moved up to Feb? Feeling more positive after my blip last week.

FinallyHere · 05/02/2024 08:00

moved @Frumpyunicorn right next to me :-) Glad to have you back

FinallyHere · 05/02/2024 08:25

There is a fix of sorts @Skiphopbump

Thank you for spotting this one, I'll have another think for a better solution. Thinking...

recklessgran · 05/02/2024 08:29

Morning. I've added my weight to the speadsheet. On my second black coffee and have 2 litre bottle of water in the fridge door. That has to be gone before dinner tonight. Just boiling eggs. Egg mayo salad for lunch and creamy mustard chicken traybake for dinner. Aiming for no snacks and drinking all the water for today. Not worrying too much about exercise this first week bar a walk at lunchtime.

Baystard · 05/02/2024 08:45

Good morning everyone. I've logged my weight on the spreadsheet, thank you @FinallyHere for being our spreadsheet wrangler.

I will continue dry January for this BC too, I'm struggling enough with my weight and bloating as it is, so I doubt alcohol would be a friend to me!

@BIWI thanks so much for running BC, it makes a huge difference (I'm absolutely crediting it for me not saying fuckit after only maintaining recently, and nose diving into the junk food as I have previous for).

Good luck everyone!

AllTheBlackCoffee · 05/02/2024 08:51

Morning everyone, I've been pretty much STS this week which I'm telling myself is related to my underactive thyroid but could be more linked to the end of Dry January and the reintroduction or Malbec to my diet Blush Also had a bit of an incident yesterday with a bar of dark chocolate with orange which won't have helped matters, I'm sure!

Today's plan is Greek yog and cream, stuffed mushrooms and salad and sausage, swede mash and broccoli. Also planning a lunchtime run.

Best of luck to everyone starting today - I'm 9lbs down since the start of Jan and, as a really slow loser, that's a complete miracle. So my advice is stick to the plan, drink all the water, and trust the process - it works! makes note of own advice for when the going inevitably gets tough

SpinningTops · 05/02/2024 08:58

Hello all and thanks for running the new bootcamp.

I kept going for the week between jan bootcamp ending and this beginning so another lb down. I have a weekend away coming up on Friday so not expecting to lose this week really (maybe even gain a little) as can't control the food but will be straight back on it for the rest of bootcamp. I'm hoping to lose the last few lb to get me back to where I'm happy. I know it will be slow and steady but even 0.5lb a week will be good for me.

blackteaplease · 05/02/2024 08:58

I'm a lb up from last week, also a result of reintroducing wine. I switched to using our smaller glasses and only filling half full. My brain thought I'd had 2 glasses of wine but in reality it was 200ml rather than half a bottle. It doesn't seem like a lot but it's enough to avoid the munchies

Nestnearlyempty · 05/02/2024 09:07

Morning all, checking in ready to go. I’m going to be like @BIWI and be strict BC for part of the week and lite for a couple of days- but for me BClite is more achievable when travelling for work rather than the full on BC- so I will be lite wed-fri this week. And hopefully that will mean that the fuckits don’t kick in while I’m travelling.

good luck everyone :-)
today I’m planning FFGY &cream for breakfast, eggs, spinach for lunch and gammon with cauliflower leek cheese with broccoli tonight.

WitchWand · 05/02/2024 09:07

Hi there everyone. Checking in with 156lbs this morning. Stayed on bootcamp during the time off between the January and February one. And, despite lots of fluctuations am pleased to have shifted another pound. Actually, it went yesterday and I'm sure it was all about water retention.

Thanks so much for that explanation @StuntNun . It's really interesting. All the best everyone !

Thesoundofmusic23 · 05/02/2024 09:20

Just logged a small gain this week after somewhat of a week off. Have decided to stay booze free for this next chapter as I was enjoying the clear head and increased energy. Will probably do BC light this time but mostly adhering. I do enjoy a few blueberries and pecans with my ffgy in the morning. Good luck everyone. I would love to get firmly under 11 Stone this boot camp and if possible towards 10 and a half.
