Morning all

I've started a new thread as the first one was taking so long to load (and also because I kept forgetting to change my Christmas name each time I posted!)

Here's the spreadsheet

@TheSoundofMusic23 you are definitely on it! I've put in your 8lb loss, as I can't see why that wouldn't have been a real loss, but feel free to change if you need to.

Great to hear that things are going well for you @MetabolicallyComplicated - especially re the bleeding.

I will concede that cream plus yogurt is delicious, when I am on BC Lite i make myself a pot of frozen berries, splash or cream and yogurt to take to work and the cream partially freezes on the berries and tastes amazing. It is just that little voice saying "cholesterol" that bugs me.

PurpleWhirple · 12/01/2024 12:15

Here's the pickle recipe for anyone interested. I left out the sugar and it's still tasty. I also didn't do julienne carrots, I grated them in about 3 seconds in the magimix

It's from The Secret of Cooking by Bee Wilson

Thanks @PurpleWhirple - I think I’m going to try a white cabbage version of that with the butter chicken recipe- delicious!

cathyandclaire · 12/01/2024 12:37

Also did a delicious moussaka yesterday, inspired by @Metabolicallycomplicated.

Leek and cauli soup today, then 3 cheese souffle ( based around the LC cheese sauce) and salad for supper tonight

Baystard · 12/01/2024 13:09

Thanks @lurknolinger and @PurpleWhirple they both look like good recipes. I like Indian food and can normally do fairly LC (even veg pakora aren't terrible as it's chickpea flour, though not for BC obviously) but I think a substantial non carby side will help.

EffortlessDelegation · 12/01/2024 13:50

Thanks @BIWI I have ordered a secondhand copy of that book, although I’ve read plenty of articles before I haven’t seen it. I need to stop clicking on every healthy eating article I see in the MSM which tells me to cut out red meat, cheese etc. I think they lure me in because the whole topic is interesting and there is always the hope that they will be singing from the same hymn sheet, but they never are, we talk about this problem at work quite a bit (we have a lot of Tim Spector fans so healthy eating is a regular topic of discussion).

NotDonna · 12/01/2024 15:15

We inherited a qooker (basic one) and I do love it. The soda streams don’t take a socket either & they’re very simple to use. I also have the pink canister but not sure where I’ll get my replacements from. It maybe depends on your quality of water as to the taste; ours tastes fine. It saves so much plastic!
Can’t recall who the regular contributor is who has FFY with cream and ground cinnamon but I’ve tried it and it’s really good for satiating a sweet tooth. I even had some yesterday. I’m eating lots today too. I even had bfast as was hungry with tummy rumbles and didn’t do my usual 16:8
Bfast - leftover chicken curry with green beans and spinach
lunch - feta scrambled eggs with buttery spinach and tomatoes.
I think I’ll have pan fried salmon with stir fry veg tonight and do some buttery mash for DD3 and drink more water!

Am I the only person who thinks that soda stream fizzy water doesn't taste the same as bought fizzy water? I'm no snob honest. Cheapest fizzy water for us all day long. But my SIL proudly gave me fizzy water she'd done in her soda stream and it tasted like fizzy tap water not fizzy water.
I'm not sure that even makes sense 😬
Me DH and DT2 drink loads of it and we regularly get through 4 litres in a day.

Well, water made fizzy in the Sodastream will taste of tap water, because you make it with water from the tap!!!

Food update for today, I’m on track and saw 20st 0lbs on the scale this morning!! Tantalisingly close to the 19st bracket so I’m drinking all the water today hoping for a whoosh. I’ve not been in the 19st bracket for at least 2 years.

B: 16:8
L: chicken pizza and chop salad (this was yummy)
D: Salmon marinated in soy, ginger, lemon, garlic and chilli served on butter fried sesame green beans

My NSV for the day today is CHEEKBONES! Caught sight of myself on a teams call earlier and there they were! It means I’ve officially lost my carb moon face and my actual face is visible again Grin. It’s amazing how that can change in just over a week.

TheOnlyMrsW · 12/01/2024 15:59

I'm definitely going to look at the Aarkle, I'm another who has been looking at a soda stream for fizzy water mainly due to plastic concerns and now the kitchen is finished I can look at bits like that to finish it
@PurpleWhirple I've been after that Bee Wilson book, our library is closed for refurbishment so may have to bite the bullet and buy it as I've no idea when they'll be back open for orders. I like Nigel Slater as well for cookbooks that are good reads as well
@BIWI hope things today have gone as well as can be expected.
Off to properly catch up

Tough day today as we're off to a funeral. Reception/wake afterwards will be at lunchtime and is in a pub, so I doubt there will be much I can eat. We have to leave at 9.30 so I'm going to have some yoghurt and hope that sees me through. I'm driving, so at least there's no issue on the alcohol front.

We have a Sodastream, and we use it all the time. I don't know if it saves us money, but I bought it mainly to save on plastic. The gas canisters are expensive, so I hope it's value for money overall! That said, I think ours is on the way out, and if/when it dies, I'm going to replace it - as it's so convenient - and will get one that allows you to change the level of fizziness. Ours is definitely not working as well on that front, even with a fresh canister.

Sorry to hear this BIWI - hope it goes as well as possible.
It seems to be the season :(
You do sound to be well prepared for the food side of things.

Ours was last Saturday (from the bereavement before Christmas) but the menu (a meal rather than a buffet) was low-carb adaptable. (Lucky - because I failed to plan ahead.)

Comfort-eating would have been my downfall on a 'diet' in days of the past. Things remain very sad here but low-carb eating is keeping the food-demons quiet and docile. Most of what we eat is comforting - and satisfying enough not to require more and more and more.

BIWI · 12/01/2024 16:50

Funeral was fine - as far as they ever are. It was the mother of one of our friends, so not close family. But someone we've known for a long time.

The wake food was, predictably, all carbs. I ate the inside of some pork pie, and half an egg sandwich. Thankfully, though, the bar had a lot of alcohol-free drinks to choose from, so I didn't have to drink sweet soft drinks all afternoon.

Hi everyone, I fell off the wagon completely yesterday. My little one was in for a general anesthetic, so I couldn't eat or drink all morning in support of her, we were last in and then managed a few rollitos for a late lunch but by the time we got home I was absolutely frazzled and gave in to my emotional cravings in a carb heavy takeaway and g&t. I have been back on bootcamp today so hopefully not too much damage done but we are away this weekend so it could be tough.

PurpleWhirple · 12/01/2024 17:48

Ah that must have been stressful. I've only become aware the last couple of years (despite yo-yo dieting for the last 20) how much of my eating is emotional. I don't think I realised until I put on load of weight during that first lockdown that I was basically eating and boozing because I was anxious. Now it's easier to manage just by being aware that I'm probably feeling like comfort food because I need emotional comfort.

I hope your daughter is okay. Do what you can this weekend. Focus on the water and try to plan your way around the food. Is there anything we can help you make a strategy for?

And try to be kind to yourself. Remember, even BIWI eats half an egg butty sometimes!

BIWI · 12/01/2024 17:49

... and confesses to it!

I've got my favourite Lebanese takeaway coming tonight and have bought some of those citrus beers that BIWI recommended.

Had put on over a pound this morning which I guess might have been the impact of the 250mls of sugary tonic water but I'm hopeful I can shift it by Monday 💪💪💪

Happy Friday night all

RooRooCooChoo · 12/01/2024 18:36

Back from the marshes and reentered the world of hot food. Hallelujah! Got home from work and ordered a takeaway.

Today wasn't great as I was eating the ends of my car picnic
L: green veggies, nuts, rollitos
S: chorizo crisps
D: tandoori meats, lamb bhuna, saag paneer and brinjal bhaji. I did sneak a papadom, but given it was pretty tiny and I have been entirely without sin all week I have decided to absolve myself.

Happy Friday everyone !

Thesoundofmusic23 · 12/01/2024 19:38

Just back from the shops and sitting down to a fizzy water and lime with a lovely array of nibbles - celery pieces with goats cheese, chilli olives and breakfast radishes. Yum! Helping to take my desire for a large g and t away 🫣 happy Friday boot campers.

TheOnlyMrsW · 12/01/2024 19:38

@RooRooCooChoo welcome back your takeaway sounds lovely!!!!
I'm not a fan of yoghurt with cream, did try it on my first bootcamp in the summer but now I'm pretty much on the IF train haven't had it for a while. Busy day today with not enough water again - Fridays are my non-working day so tend to be stupidly busy so trying to catch up now. DH is cooking on Fridays now so dinner was quesadillas for the carbies and spicy chicken filling with roast veg for me, nothing else as too busy to stop.
Tomorrow we're out and dinner at pizza express so tempted to try the melanzane to get over my aubergine phobia........the other option is a salad but it's likely to be around zero so would prefer something warm. Will be bouncing my little socks off which should help with getting the scales to move by Monday morning 😊

TheOnlyMrsW · 12/01/2024 19:46

PS: I think it's @prettybird who has yoghurt with cream and cinnamon so probably has lots of other lovely things to do with it😍

BIWI · 12/01/2024 19:50

I'm partial to full fat Greek yoghurt with a dollop of crunchy peanut butter in it. (You do have to be careful which brand of PB you choose, as the carb counts vary enormously)

Metabolicallycomplicated · 12/01/2024 20:01

I’ve just had an MRI scan, bloody horrible aren’t they??

Ive come home and DH (who is calorie counting) is desperate to order a takeaway but I’ve said I’m not partaking, given I had salmon marinating in the fridge. He’s had his home made prawn curry in solidarity with my new found willpower Smile

Glad it went as well as it could do @BIWI, and hope you have something delicious lined up for tea to make up for your disappointing lunch!

poorbuthappy · 12/01/2024 20:40

Yoghurt & cream with finely grated dark chocolate is also bloody lovely.

BIWI · 12/01/2024 20:56

Well, tea was a mishmash of leftovers! Leftover pesto halloumi and roasted veg, with some courgettes, broccoli and red pepper from last night. All re-heated with a pile of grated Parmesan on top.

A bit weird, but very tasty and, more to the point, frugal and avoiding any waste!

prettybird · 12/01/2024 21:23

Never tried peanut butter with yoghurt and cream, so must add that to the list of versions to try - along with grated high cocoa dark chocolate, which has been on the list for a while Wink I'm also told than vanilla powder is good, but I've never bought any.
