Low Carb Bootcamp challenge - lose half a stone before Christmas

BIWI · 07/11/2023 17:09

If we start next Monday, there are 6 weeks leading up to Christmas.

Hopefully that means that we can drop 7lbs in those weeks - but only if we're properly strict.

It's entirely up to you if you want to do strict Bootcamp, or Bootcamp Light across those 6 weeks, although I'd suggest that if you haven't got too much to lose, you veer towards a stricter approach.

It's also, we need to bear in mind, a more difficult time of the year to think about losing weight as there are likely to be more social occasions, so a stricter approach around all of those events is probably a good one!

Who's in?!

Morning all. So after weighing in a day late at the start of the week and a day early at the end (I have surgery tomorrow so need to be at the hospital for 7.30am).... I'm down 4lb in 5 days 😜 I'm pretty certain that a couple, or even 3lb of that was bloat as I'd apparently put on 3.4lb in the week from end of last bootcamp to the start of this one. But nonetheless, it means I'm 0.4lb down from the lowest weight I'd seen (I'd been bouncing up and down a bit weightwise for a little while so hopefully I've broken through my plateau 💪). Congrats to you BIWI on breaking through your plateau too! And to the PP feeling like they've made bad choices, I'm trying my best to take a long term view with this WOE (for me it's diabetes prevention) and so some carby days are always going to happen. But I want to learn to have the carby days mindfully, and with full enjoyment, and then climb back onto the wagon without feeling deprived!

I've just calculated my BMI and I'm now (only just!!) into the normal range 😱

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/11/2023 09:31

Congratulations @BIWI &@pinknsparkly 🎉, I've worked out that if I lose this 1/2 stone before Christmas it will put me firmly in "overweight" rather than "obese" for the first time in years.

Lovely chicken casserole for dinner yesterday with carrots, shallots and leeks, roast swede and broccoli on the side, had a coffee date with DD in the morning but went for a small flat white rather than my normal latte. DD obviously had huge mocha, marshmallows and cake 🤣.

Christmas shopping today in the big smoke, will be having omelette before ego to avoid temptation whilst there (markets with aaaalllllll the carbs!) and then steak with roast veg for dinner 😊

Great progress!

I know BMI isn't the most nuanced tool, but I do think it's a very helpful guide. I'm now 1.5 points away from 'normal'. So that's something I'm aiming for.

Hope your surgery goes well.

2lb down this morning! Does the sheet not do it’s magical calculations like before?

MrsGMichael · 20/11/2023 06:57

1lb down for me.

I am pleased with that. My dh works in the food industry and I get to go to some very nice restaurants and was out a few times this week. Had some low carb days and I know loss would have been more if I hadn’t been away and eating out a lot.

The week coming also involves me being away for work and another short trip with dh to a lovely restaurant. Another 1lb off would be amazing.

well done for all the losses is very motivating being part of this.

Lovecat · 20/11/2023 07:20

We will draw a veil over yesterday's baby shower...

However, I'm 3.5lb down for the whole week and after the weekend of craziness I'm well chuffed. Scales aside, My stomach bloat disappeared, my big toe, which had started to go numb, is back to life, and I feel great!

Thanks to everyone especially BIWI for this thread, it really helps to keep me accountable.

qwerty1972 · 20/11/2023 07:20

4.1lbs off this morning! Thank you @BIWI for the kick up the backside I needed. Onwards and downwards!

EversoDisorganised · 20/11/2023 07:27

Morning, 1.3lb down for me, which I’m happy with as I have had two meals out and been to the pub and had crisps put under my nose a couple of times too, I have been pretty restrained with my nibbling (compared to my natural tendencies to pig out on crisps). I also find weekends hard because DH always goes out and buys crusty bread and I am in the kitchen a lot more with the temptation to nibble. Work days are much easier as I can only eat what I take with me and I sip water all day at my desk, tend to forget at weekends when I am out a lot.

LadyBird1973 · 20/11/2023 07:39

Good morning all.
Am 2lb down this week, which is good as I have stalled for the previous 2 weeks. Not been perfect - a Costa chocolate biscuit may have found it's way into my possession earlier this week, but generally I have stuck to the plan, despite having lots of stressful things to contend with recently.
Good luck to anyone yet to weigh.

islandtiger · 20/11/2023 07:41

Well done all, so encouraging to see this news. I've been a bit quiet, came down with the cold from hell on Saturday but happy enough with 1lb down. Might lose a bit more if this keeps up. 🚰 🍋 🫚 . Wondering if it could be 'carb flu' as I've had a flu jab. 🤔 Will post a recipe for aubergine and tomato soup on the recipe thread, it has lots of garlic, quite satisfying for lunch especially with a dollop of cream.

agnesmartin · 20/11/2023 07:47

Morning everyone.

Some great losses there! I'm down 2lb and happy with that. Did lose 3lb overnight one night but then gained a couple and then lost one. Happy to bounce around a bit as long as overall trajectory is down! Been sticking pretty well to bootcamp proper bar a glass of wine last night.

agnesmartin · 20/11/2023 08:07

And thanks very much to BIWI for keeping this simplified thread going. If I'd relaxed completely am pretty sure I would've been 2lb UP this week! 😬

Great to hear how everyone's getting on. I'm1.6lbs down this week, pleased with this as by sticking pretty much to boot camp rules I seem to have settled into losing more or less 2lbs every week (fingers crossed!)

Carrierbagofseedsandstars · 20/11/2023 09:02

@LC4life that is amazing - well done!! Flowers

What magical calculations do you want?!

All this sheet is doing is tracking each week's weight loss - and there's a cumulative column at the end for how much weight overall.

BIWI · 20/11/2023 09:12

I saw that 11lbs on the spreadsheet @LC4life and wondered if it was a typo! That's amazing. Really well done - and how motivating Flowers

My weigh-in day is Wednesday, so the weight I've entered today was last week's. Hoping for a bit more off in the next couple of days.

yesyesitsaparkingone · 20/11/2023 11:08

I’m genuinely shocked and delighted to see I have lost 1.4 lbs! It shows how bad my memory is, I thought I’d put on weight!

Trying to have a super strict week this week as the first of the Christmas season events this weekend!

Also have a Thanksgiving event this week but the American in our midst doesn’t love roast Turkey and so we’re having turkey chili! I might put refried beans on the side and do some blue cheese dip with celery, possibly an American style chopped cobb salad.

Almahart · 20/11/2023 11:41

Hallo, I actually started BC on 13th along with everyone else but didn't get round to posting here, or on the spreadsheet. I dropped 7 pounds last week but now up to a 2 pound loss. Haven't been doing anything different and have been super strict, so am logging the 7 for morale's sake and koko.

I've found a new quick lunch - an avocado with prawns and vinaigrette. I'm alternating that with a cheese omelette and salad and haven't got bored yet. Just thought I'd mention it cos lunches can be a bit of a challenge.

Right, going back to catch up on the bits of the thread I haven't got to. @BIWI your cheeseburger pie would be a winner here I think, looking forward to more recipe inspiration.

BTW I forgot to ask my long covid physio about the science behind eating very low carb, but he was delighted to hear what I was eating. I said that I was eating no carbs at all apart from those in veg, thinking he might have some concerns, but not at all.
