Morning all.

Happy Back to School Day! Grin

Weird night here with lots of rain and a huge thunderstorm that seemed to be right outside my bedroom window. But the lawn and plants obviously enjoyed it. And it's a lovely day now - blue sky and sunshine.

Here's the spreadsheet

... and a quick glance shows me that there are five Bootcampers who look like they may reach the milestone of losing a stone by the end of the 8 weeks!

@Chocausaurus - total loss so far 13.8 pounds
@imsofancy - total loss so far 12.3 pounds
@loopylu26 - total loss so far 11.2 pounds
@sunshinelove - total loss so far 11 pounds
@WeknowfrogsgoShaLaLaLaLa - total loss so far 10 pounds

Fingers crossed you can do that in the net 2 weeks!

Hey @ShagMeRiggins good to hear from you and all.the.water

Hope it's all sorted now @ditavonteesed

I'm a bit late to this week's check in, to report 5lbs down in August, moving my down from obese BMI to overweight. Strictly bootcamping and monthly weigh-ins plus all the support from you lovely people have been working for me this year.

Lucienandjean · 06/09/2022 22:54

I've had a gain this week, which surprises me a bit because I've stuck pretty closely to the WOE this week. Hoping it's just one of those blips.

But every time I put on a little weight, I panic that I won't be able to lose it again (which is daft, I know), and that this is the start of me giving up and putting all the weight back on. Again, I know I won't really do that, because this is the only time in my life I've lost weight without major deprivation. But my thoughts run away with me!

Meanwhile, I'll KOKO.

Today's food (I find this helpful, even if no one else reads it)

B: a spoonful of yogurt and cream
L: poached eggs, salad, avocado.
D: salmon baked with butter and herbs, prawns, stir fry veg
S: 2 rollitos and a couple of strawberries.

ditavonteesed · 07/09/2022 05:41

@Lucienandjean I know what you mean, that would have been me in the past as well. Also every time I cheated. Now I wake up the next day and remember how far I've come and that I'm not undoing it. Hit the reset button and start again. (Well sometimes it takes a lot more than a day). I think daily weighing really works for me a the fluctuations can be massive in a week. A little bit on usually comes off with a few friends later in the week.

Your doing this for you and your winning!

Jollyholibobs · 07/09/2022 06:15

hi there@ShagMeRiggins sorry you have had a shit year. 💐💐

Hope it’s sorted for DD @ditavonteesed

Keep posting your food @Lucienandjean I’m reading it. I like to post mine too. I know what you mean about the risk of a small gain setting off negative thoughts.

i am a daily weigher if I don’t weigh it’s a symptom of being seriously off the wagon.

Yesterdays meals

B black coffee
L ratatouille omelette and salad leaves, geek yoghurt and a few raspberries
D portobello mushroom ’pizzas’ ( mushrooms as little pizza bases) and homemade red cabbage coleslaw.

today
B black coffee
L left over veg curry in an omelette
D meeting up with friends and everyone is bringing food to share. I will choose wisely and will take something that I will want to eat. Nice cheese and salad with avocado. mindset is good I hope.

Can we talk about water?

We have those fancy scales that tell you how much of your body % is water and mine is on the low side despite now drinking 3+ litres daily. Is it just a case that once I've dropped more fat, the % will increase? It's telling me 40% at the moment.

BIWI · 07/09/2022 15:04

Sorry @bandbsmummy - I don't have a clue! Perhaps @StuntNun might be able to help?

OP posts:
BIWI · 07/09/2022 15:06

... although this might be of interest

The only other thing I'd say is that perhaps the scales aren't the most accurate way to measure how hydrated you are?

OP posts:
BIWI · 07/09/2022 15:07

Are you making sure that you're keeping your electrolytes up? Could be worth looking at that as well.

No, fat and water will both decrease over time.

My body fat has decreased and water has increased. But tbh it should all be taken with a pinch of salt because they aren't very accurate.

@ditavonteesed and @Jollyholibobs I'm going to try daily weighing for a while and see if that helps (mentally). This morning I had lost a tiny bit so feeling a bit more motivated.

bandbsmummy · 07/09/2022 19:58

Interesting, thanks everyone. I will keep an eye but not worry about it too much!

Yes, this is what I'd read - hence stressing that 40% when I'm early 30s is not great.

ditavonteesed · 07/09/2022 21:16

@bandbsmummy I have found that they really aren't very accurate. My body fat changes at exact rate with my weight no change in body composition at all and I've been training for about 6 months now so I don't believe it.

Jollyholibobs · 08/09/2022 07:33

I’m on an early train for a day in the office. Salad box in my bag. Will buy a Greek yoghurt as I walk from the station.

B IF Black coffee
L salad with avocado, artichoke and French cheese. Greek yoghurt.
D sesame coated tuna steak, stir fried veg noodles, chocolate mouse, raspberries and cream. (Wedding anniversary so making something special)

Sunsnowsun · 08/09/2022 09:07

Morning all and welcome back @ShagMeRiggins , I’ve name changed but was not watching before 😀, so sorry you have had a shit time 💐
Hope your all sorted @ditavonteesed 💐

I have been KOKO and seem to have finally had a whoosh, and 2.5lbs down from Monday, just need to KOKO and hope it sticks for Monday’s weigh in, this was after a few weeks of sticking to plan but not really seeing the scales move.

I had to see a consultant (thyroid/diabetes specialist) recently for a medical issue, I was okay and have had the all clear (thankfully). However he was not happy with my BMI, said he would really like me to loose weight and told me to cut all carbs to loose weight, but to make sure I ate as much as I needed of everything else as that was necessary to loose weight and not put my body into starvation mode. It was so refreshing to hear that from a medic.

BIWI · 08/09/2022 10:44

@Sunsnowsun I hope he didn't really mean all carbs?! You still need to ensure you're getting some carbs from veg/salad.

OP posts:
Sunsnowsun · 08/09/2022 10:59

@BIWI no he didn’t it was absolutely the same as bootcamp rules 😀 basically cut bread, pasta, cakes, biscuits, potatoes etc. Eat plenty of other veg, protein etc, do not go hungry . He said he has had amazing results with patients loosing huge amounts and becoming much healthier. He did not mention fats at all and I did not ask, but equally he said not to restrict other foods. He was a BUPA recommended consultant worked both for the NHS and privately.

FinallyHere · 08/09/2022 11:30

Good to hear @Sunsnowsun

The message had spread further, too including www.diabetes.co.uk.

Our GP's surgery is good at everything else, acknowledge that DH is no longer TII diabetic have adjusted to perspiration to remove the metformin but appear to treat the result as a 'mystery' and do not agree that the results are very repeatable for anyone doing low carb high fat

Sigh.

ShagMeRiggins · 08/09/2022 16:09

I have two kilos of chicken thighs defrosting quickly. Any inspiration is welcome.

I could do basic seasoned thighs and med veg (fresh & frozen combined, as I’m feeding four adult appetites—theirs are bigger than mine). Easy.

Can anyone zhuzh this up for me?

I am so tired of cooking!!

Thanks for all the howdys and, obviously, do have a glass or two of WATER WATER WATER!

it really helps, even when the weather is cooler. #honest

ditavonteesed · 08/09/2022 17:08

So dd is finally enrolled at uni, I can try and relax now. Took all the stress out in the gym this morning. Got a night shift tonight and I am achey 😂.
Pt commented on how much water I drank, I thought if you @ShagMeRiggins
I'm taking my little van away this weekend. No idea what we are going to eat haven't had the mental space to even think yet.

BIWI · 08/09/2022 18:06

@ShagMeRiggins I'd use a mix of ground cumin/coriander/chilli/black pepper/sea salt, stirred into olive oil and then rubbed all over the chicken. Hot oven, so that the skin crisps up too.

Roast veg in a separate oven dish, also with lots of olive oil - and if you have any garlic, a head of garlic broken into cloves (no need to peel) nestled into the veg.

Job done!

I need some inspiration for veggie meals for tomorrow night as ds' (veggie) girlfriend is coming down for the weekend as it's ds' birthday on Saturday. Fortunately she is not vegan Wink

I've still to do the shopping for the week tomorrow so am open for suggestions Grin

No mushrooms or peppers Envy

Actually, there can be - I'll just eat something else (eg have an avocado in the fridge Wink).

Jollyholibobs · 08/09/2022 18:25

@prettybird Rose Elliot’s Pecorino tart is really delicious. I think it’s on the vegetarian recipe thread but if not I can post it when I get home as I have the book.

Or roast veg Ratatouille topped with halloumi and browned off. (Fast800)

or Boursin mixed through mushrooms and leeks sautéed in butter served with cabbage tagliatelle. (RoseElliot)

or my all time favourite from Yotom Ottelengi’s Flavour book. Celeriac steaks with Paris de cafe butter.

or Aubergine Parmigiana I put red wine in mine

Hope this helps.

Jollyholibobs · 08/09/2022 18:26

Oops not the Boursin with mushrooms sorry
