General Low Carb Bootcamp Chat

BIWI · 29/12/2021 23:37

Although I generally keep a chat thread going at the end of each Bootcamp, I think it would be better to have an ongoing chat thread that isn't linked to a specific Bootcamp.

So here it is. A sparkly new thread, for all things low carb and Bootcamp chat. As well as anything else you'd like to chat about!

Feel free to chat about anything you like here.

... although there is a later edition which has an extra section - hang on, let me find out what that is

BIWI · 07/01/2022 10:47

Yes this is the one

The extra chapter is about Covid.

Thank you. I've bought it now, bargain at 99p!

queenofcauliflower · 07/01/2022 10:53

Bought (via your link BIWI), you should be an Amazon affiliate!

BIWI · 07/01/2022 11:01

I know! Actually I'm trying to link via Bookshop.org (and buy from them too) but it was a quick, lazy search without thinking there.

(I think I should get commission from all the authors/books I recommend!)

B black coffee
L Parma ham and salad
D chilli with avocado instead of rice

UnOeufIsEnough · 07/01/2022 18:34

B: scrambled eggs with mozzarella and avocado
L: rollitos with a boiled egg and cucumber
D: steak, rocket and celeriac chips.

I've kept my tastebuds during covid so far but DH lost his sense of taste today so I hope I'm not next!

Baystard · 07/01/2022 18:39

B black coffee
L 1 small hot smoked salmon fillet, 1 large avacado, a square keto fudge, a cup of tea with milk.
D 2 mashed boiled eggs with butter, chorizo sprouts (more chorizo than sprouts this time Grin ), 2 x 95% meat pork sausages.

Having a small G&T too, with Fevertree light tonic water.

prettybird · 07/01/2022 19:18

I've just cleared out my freezer long overdue Blush - I don't understand how I could throw out loads of amorphous tubs or bags of "stuff"!and it's still as full as it was Confused

At least it's organised now: I'm planning on making soup (low carb of course Wink) once a week for the next umpteen weeks Grin. Plus I don't need to buy (low carb) sausages for ages - so that's another meal per week sorted. Wink

Plus two pheasants that I bought for Christmas and we haven't had yet, and some sliced turkey (and there's also the two shoulders of lamb in the outside freezer Shock). Two venison steaks (plus two fresh ones in the fridge that we're having tomorrow night), a chicken breast and a duck breast portion.

Oneborneverydecade · 07/01/2022 19:23

Ordered some of the infamous Renpho scales and omg it's not great news
Annoyingly DH's stats are all great but he's talking about cutting back anyway because he's nearer the top of normal for body fat (I'm in obese for reference)

I ordered the new MM on my Kindle yesterday. Now to get reading

Baystard · 07/01/2022 19:29

That's an impressive haul prettybird !

I know we're not Bootcamping yet, but just to warn you (in case you didn't know) that those Fevertree tonics still have carbs - at 3.8g per 100ml they can quickly get quite carby. A small can is 150ml, so that's 5.7g carbs per can.

Thanks BIWI I know, I'll cut it out during bootcamp but at the moment I'm happy to be just low carb while I wean myself off the processed carbs I'd slid back into.

I waited and drank it after my high fat meal so that the sugar will be mixed in with the fat and hopefully won't raise my insulin level so much, though I missed having one whilst cooking!

Onelittlepiglet · 08/01/2022 07:13

I had a beautiful ripe avocado yesterday and was really craving avocado on toast with a slice of bacon. So instead of bread, I fried a slice of cheddar cheese into a crisp and used that as the base - delicious! It won’t be a regular meal, but lovely for a treat.

I was out and about a lot yesterday so Keeping up with water was difficult as I wasn’t always near a toilet. I did ok, but not as good as I usually do.

Today is
B: Scrambled eggs and bacon (meant to have spinach but it had gone mouldy)
L: Left over chicken legs and sprouts, fennel and cabbage roasted in olive oil
D: roasted chicken breast with a load of broccoli and sprouts in butter and I might make a creamy mushroom sauce type thing to go with it.

byebyecarbs · 08/01/2022 07:50

Morning all, still doing pretty well here although I ate one of my husband's potato wedges last night - I just couldn't help myself - they were homemade and delicious.

The drinking all the water in the morning seems to have helped and i was only up once in the night and somehow managed to get back to sleep which is good as I'm much more likely to fall off the wagon if I've had no sleep.

Food today is seriously low carb toasted bread for breakfast with lurpak and marmite.

Lunch - to be decided - probably going to a pub for lunch

Dinner - chicken saag curry

Frenchpoodle · 08/01/2022 08:37

Morning all. I’m away working and decided to go to an Air bnb, rather than usual hotel, so I can cook my own food (also so other half and the dog can come with me!).
Yesterday had:
L - scrambled eggs with tomato and avocado
D - steak with spinach, roasted broccoli and asparagus
Bloody delicious all of it Grin

AllTheBlackCoffee · 08/01/2022 08:41

Morning everyone, today marks one week booze free and low carb. I can't believe how much better I feel than I did this time last week. I wish I could bottle this feeling for when I'm craving carbs or opening that second bottle of wine. I had a bitters and soda last night which was nice as a weekend treat and really helped me get through the witching hour (even though it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I was anticipating).

Got the in-laws over for lunch as they are going to watch DS's football game this morning. It's freezing so I think I'll make some soup in a bit.

Today's plan:
B: black coffee
L: broccoli and cheddar soup topped with crispy bacon bits, crusty bread for those who eat that kind of thing polishes halo
D: chicken fajita salad with sour cream, salsa and avocado

Prinnny · 08/01/2022 08:46

Morning! One week dry and keto for me too! Plan for today was going to be a breakfast brunch but my seriously low carb bread and bread rolls order hasn’t turned up..gutted! Son need to rethink lunch. For tea we’re going out for an Indians later, I’ll just have a chicken tikka saag and avoid making eye contact with my husbands rice and garlic naan 😂

@BIWI you’ve had a mention on that SlimmingWorld thread, someone trying to defend SW saying there lots of silly diets and mentioned your boot camp…rude!

Baystard · 08/01/2022 09:09

prinny I saw that thread but left after seeing so many horrid posts about avacados Shock

I really want an avacado now Grin

Frenchpoodle · 08/01/2022 09:14

@Prinnny No way about BIWI and bootcamp being mentioned as a silly diet…. on a slimming world thread?!? The silliest of them all!

How ridiculous. I am eating healthy, delicious food every day, loads of veg, no processed rubbish, loads of water and feel better than I ever have! It’s the only way of eating I have ever stuck to and not felt hungry, deprived and sad Hmm (weight watchers and slimming world I’m looking at you!) Each to their own I suppose, but bootcamp is absolutely perfect for me and it works

VeryLittleOwl · 08/01/2022 09:43

One week sugar free and 1.2lbs off. It's a start :) Next week, no sugar and no flour, and then the week after, bootcamp proper.

Prinnny · 08/01/2022 10:17

Yep apparently this is just as bad as the cult that is SW! Crazy fools!

BestIsWest · 08/01/2022 11:02

I joined SW once years ago. I did lose a couple of stones but very odd way of eating. I consumed lots of Muller lite yoghurt.

Prinnny · 08/01/2022 12:14

Has anyone tried these? Just picked them up in home bargains 99p each and apparently carb free!

I am really going to struggle with the sugar - I have stopped eating fruit but will need to wean myself off Diet Coke and the 10 cal jellies. On the plus side I am day nine of no alcohol and have done nearly 7 days without eating bread or pasta
