Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

Well, doesn't time fly?!

We've already completed the two, hardest weeks of Bootcamp.

So now, things get a bit different.

During the next 3 weeks, you'll be doing strict Bootcamp during the week, but at weekends, you can relax into Bootcamp Light. This means that you can introduce some fruit - in the form of berries - and some nuts/seeds, albeit occasionally and in moderation, and some alcohol - again, in moderation - and restricted to clear spirits with zero calorie mixers, and/or dry wines

As ever, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I sense that you're all coping really well, although it's also evident that there a lot of practical and (particularly) emotional challenges that are rearing their heads.

Stand tall and stay tough!

This WOE is not a very forgiving one, so it's important that you stick to the rules as much as you possibly, possibly can. I know that real life gets in the way sometimes, but the more you can resist all those obstacles and challenges, the better.

Here's to another successful week!

HOWEVER

I do need to warn you, if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp, that weeks 3 & 4 are very, very challenging. Your body is in the process of transitioning from burning carbs to burning fat; you have lost a lot of water weight, emptied your glycogen stores and have started burning fat. The next two weeks you need to see as consolidation weeks - you may not see much movement on the scales while this is happening.

DON'T PANIC!

You know that it works, because you've lost the weight in the first fortnight - so just KOKO (keep on keeping on), and all will be fine.

This is, though, the reason why - on this Bootcamp - we're aiming to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week. To give us the best chance of losing as we can.

Very good luck to all of us Flowers

This week's recipe is a fish one - seeing as how we've had a meat one and a veggie one!

Baked Marinated Salmon

One salmon steak per person

Marinade:

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
2 large cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
2 tbsps sesame oil
2 tbsps light soy sauce
juice of a lemon or lime
black pepper
sprinkling of dried oregano
sprinkling of dried chilli flakes (optional)

Mix together.

Put salmon pieces into a (non-metal) dish, pour marinade ingredients over them
Leave to marinade for at least 30 minutes
Wrap pieces in foil and bake in a hot oven for 15 minutes

This is lovely served with stir-fried veg - so typically I'd do finely shredded cabbage, baby sweetcorn, mangetout, pak choi. I sometimes also serve it with Bare Naked Noodles

@venusandmars you look beautiful!!

ZiggZagg · 07/11/2021 22:26

@venusandmars I adore your dress! Where did you get it from?

Sorry I have been missing in action since my birthday on Halloween Blush went totally off piste with wine, cheesecake and other carby twats Sad

I have weighed and miraculously only gained 3lb as totally expected 7+ so I have taken that as a sign from the carb Gods that I am being given a second chance!

L tomorrow will be buttered cabbage and chicken madras
D will be cheeseburger pie with a massive salad with chili and lime olive oil dressing.

And all the WATER!!!

Wildheartsease · 08/11/2021 00:19

@venusandmars Wow!

Shallwegoforawalk · 08/11/2021 02:26

I had a sneaky weighin check on Friday morning after my first week of proper bootcamp - 4 pounds down!

But I've been away for a catered weekend for a friends Big birthday and it's been carb hell. Stuck in a lodge in the middle of nowhere with all the food organised and brought in by her family - think croissants for breakfast, sandwich lunch, afternoon tea with cake and Prosecco, pizza and more wine for dinner type stuff for two and half days. I did my best (took ham and cheese out of the bread surreptitiously at lunch for example and drank loads of water) but if I had refused all carbs I wouldn't have had anything to eat at all.

I would also like to apologise to the lodge cleaner who may be surprised by a bathroom bin full of napkins with bits of bread and pastry in them. Blush

Wow @venusandmars you look amazing and so happy 😀

Jollyholibobs · 08/11/2021 08:14

@Shallwegoforawalk great progress as of Friday. Hopefully any set back over the weekend will be minimal and short lived. Fingers crossed for this mornings way in.

Pleaseandthankyou · 08/11/2021 08:15

Oh no poor you! That is a nightmare but I'd have done the same. Trying to be polite but also not undo days of work

Morning everyone. First time. In ages I’ve had a loss to report. 2.4lbs this week as it’s the first week I have really got my head in the game. Appreciate that others may be in a week 3 STS but if that’s the case don’t be discouraged it’s a normal part of the process keep at it and it will continue to work. NSV carb cravings have dropped off and I feel much more mentally alert. Vegetarian low carb lasagna was a success yesterday. AKA for @ShagMeRiggins benefit cheesy layered veg bake. And there is enough for everyone to have it again tonight. Felt like I cooked all Saturday afternoon but benefitted from no cooking Sunday or Monday. Smile

KeyLimePies · 08/11/2021 15:29

You look lovely @venusandmars - love the outfit and nails.

venusandmars · 08/11/2021 15:32

Thanks @KeyLimePies It was a great evening!

BIWI posted the link to this week's new thread a couple of posts back. See you over there.

Morning all, new to the low carb world - think I will wait for the next Bootcamp before I start, as a few questions / things to plan for - can you help me?

I'm coeliac, and my son (who I'm breastfeeding) is allergic to dairy, soy and egg (non-ige so hopefully he'll grow out of them), so I'm free from a lot of delicious food at the moment. Gluten free shouldn't be a problem on low carb, but what's your advice on how to navigate this without dairy and eggs?
