Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 31/10/2021 22:54

Well, doesn't time fly?!

We've already completed the two, hardest weeks of Bootcamp.

So now, things get a bit different.

During the next 3 weeks, you'll be doing strict Bootcamp during the week, but at weekends, you can relax into Bootcamp Light. This means that you can introduce some fruit - in the form of berries - and some nuts/seeds, albeit occasionally and in moderation, and some alcohol - again, in moderation - and restricted to clear spirits with zero calorie mixers, and/or dry wines

As ever, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I sense that you're all coping really well, although it's also evident that there a lot of practical and (particularly) emotional challenges that are rearing their heads.

Stand tall and stay tough!

This WOE is not a very forgiving one, so it's important that you stick to the rules as much as you possibly, possibly can. I know that real life gets in the way sometimes, but the more you can resist all those obstacles and challenges, the better.

Here's to another successful week!

HOWEVER

I do need to warn you, if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp, that weeks 3 & 4 are very, very challenging. Your body is in the process of transitioning from burning carbs to burning fat; you have lost a lot of water weight, emptied your glycogen stores and have started burning fat. The next two weeks you need to see as consolidation weeks - you may not see much movement on the scales while this is happening.

DON'T PANIC!

You know that it works, because you've lost the weight in the first fortnight - so just KOKO (keep on keeping on), and all will be fine.

This is, though, the reason why - on this Bootcamp - we're aiming to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week. To give us the best chance of losing as we can.

Very good luck to all of us Flowers

This week's recipe is a fish one - seeing as how we've had a meat one and a veggie one!

Baked Marinated Salmon

One salmon steak per person

Marinade:

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
2 large cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
2 tbsps sesame oil
2 tbsps light soy sauce
juice of a lemon or lime
black pepper
sprinkling of dried oregano
sprinkling of dried chilli flakes (optional)

Mix together.

Put salmon pieces into a (non-metal) dish, pour marinade ingredients over them
Leave to marinade for at least 30 minutes
Wrap pieces in foil and bake in a hot oven for 15 minutes

This is lovely served with stir-fried veg - so typically I'd do finely shredded cabbage, baby sweetcorn, mangetout, pak choi. I sometimes also serve it with Bare Naked Noodles

Thanks @BIWI I did low carb YEARS ago and lost 2 stone.
Then a stressful job, area move away, move back and a DC later I am back up 2 stone again so really need to get rid of it but can't seem to do anything that sticks.

I will start this AM. Is there a thread or list I can be directed to that will give me food inspiration or what I should/shouldn't eat to maximise results in this 6/7 weeks before Xmas

Thank you

SW 12s3.5 lb

@MilkywayMonarch22 there are food lists etc on the spreadsheet of fabulousness. It is an amazing resource. There's also a recipe thread and some suggestions of food products too. When i started i spent a few hours on the low carb bootcamp area reading through. It was definitely worth doing.

Been a super busy week for me so not been on the thread much, skimmed when I could. Stuck to it and feel ace. I've even rearranged my social life to make it bootcamp friendly!

Today I am on training, learning more Makaton (think Mr Tumble) so am about to have a blt sandwich (made with low carb bread) then out for lunch. We are going to an Argentinian place which basically brings huge chunks of meat to the table and has a brilliant salad bar. It is for DHs birthday, celebrating early as DD has stuff on!! Dinner will be left over pork with nibbles. Dessert will be a low carb cheesecake I'm making. Found a recipe and need to try it. It will be baseless with a few berries.

Sunday weigh in shows another lb off!!

I’ve been lurking this bootcamp but finding all the resources and science fascinating to read!
I’m working hard on the water element but with the cold weather setting in thinking of hot alternatives. I drink too much coffee and know not all caffeinated drinks can be counted so wondering about herbal tea recommendations. I’m guessing fruit teas are off limits? How about chai/vanilla chai?

doubleshotcappuccino · 07/11/2021 10:35

Would like to join if that's ok ? Lost a lot of weight ( 5 dress sizes) low carbing but this year it's crept up and I've not been as strict with the carbs .. 2 dress sizes to lose but I'm still net 3 dress sizes down !

doubleshotcappuccino · 07/11/2021 10:36

@MilkywayMonarch22 Christmas also my goal !

MilkywayMonarch22 · 07/11/2021 11:02

@Glenthebattleostrich Thank you, I will have a look now at the spreadsheet and the other threads and try gather food inspiration and ideas.

I won't be doing hardcore Keto as it'll be too hard for me with 14mDD and BF still, having all the carbs around me will be a real test of willpower (of which mine is limited) but I think I'll start by trying to minimise pointless carbs like the extra slice of toast or maybe Monday to Thursday when I'm at work making sure breakfast and dinner are low carb - that must surely help!

Wildheartsease · 07/11/2021 12:40

Son's freinds came back from uni with him- to stay this weekend... they turned out to be vegetarian. (I had asked -but been misled !)

BIWI's auberine and cheese sauce dish (I had just gathered the ingredients together for it as a batch cook this week) saved the day. Everyone loved it... better than the meat apparently.

Sigh - low carb foods need to come with their own fences and guard posts.

Just to be clear, Bootcamp isn't keto - but it does mean no bread/toast whatsoever!

Helloooo... thanks @prettybird for directing me here. I am new to the bootcamp and inspired by all I've read so far. I know this is the better way, now I just need to actually stick to it. Grin Been putting a lot of stuff in my shopping basket this morning, helped by the 'Useful low carbs + photos' thread.
You're all just a whole lot of awesome.

PastramiNoRye · 07/11/2021 13:09

@Glenthebattleostrich is it Fazenda you're going to? Love it there. A low carb dream!

Glenthebattleostrich · 07/11/2021 13:25

@PastramiNoRye its Estabulo. Same kind of thing but I prefer their salad bar to Fazenda!

We don't have any of those in Scotland. Looks great - enjoy!

Hi everyone. I've discovered a lovely herbal tea @Getyourheadaroundthis. It's Twinings spiced ginger. It really warms you up and I've been adding a half tspn of cinnamon. Highly recommended.

@Getyourheadaroundthis have you tried drinking hot water? If you add a slice of two or lemon it makes a lovely, soothing drink.

Bacon roll ( no ketchup but plenty of butter!) Weekend only treat (don't fret it's low carb bread).

Actually really good.

Have recommended this bread now on the products thread too...

It's expensive at £3.99 for four rolls - they are fresh baked products though and freeze beautifully. Really recommend.

Well done everyone on keeping going.
I start week eight tomorrow and after stalling for three weeks have had a whoosh and have lost another pound. I am now at the weight I used to be at for years, where before I was pretty slim,I'm now more wobbly. Not sure why.Going to try and lose a few more pounds so I can be a small size 12. I'm almost 5'11 so bigger than alot of women.
I also had a start of a period, but then it disappeared and hasn't come back. Not complaining!

Have made the moussaka for later for first time and boiling my eggs ready for the week ahead.

Moanranger · 07/11/2021 18:03

This is my day 6, and the weight keeps dropping. I am down to 82. 8 kg today, was 83.7 kg yesterday. I am putting it down to a very strenuous day of decorating yesterday.
Assiduously reading labels, tho I find the 2point text size challenging. I found a Caesar dressing called Cardinis at Tesco, only 1.5 carbs/100g. It’s nice, tangy, so not sweet.
Water, water, water, cold water, fizzy water, hot water 💦

venusandmars · 07/11/2021 18:04

What a weekend! I've been away from home since Friday to attend a charity ball. It was a spectacular experience and they raised almost 3/4 million (£740,000) towards their new mental health facility.

Two nights in a hotel and an amazing banquet, live music (a 70s/80's star) dancing, and a celebrity compere... Managed 2 long walks as well, one on the hills and one through the autumn woods. Food was mostly OK, I'd taken salmon salad for picnic lunch on Friday and there was enough left for Saturday. Hotel breakfast was broccoli and green onion fritter with poached egg and bacon, and next day was eggs florintine (without the muffin).

The less said about the eating and drinking at the banquet and ball the better. Canapes and champagne. A salmon starter then a long break before the venision (charity auction going on). It was a long break during which the wine continued to flow with nothing to soak it up. Fortunately that meant I was too drunk to even attempt the pudding!

But the whole event was geat fun. Time with collegaues and such a celebration. I had my nails done with acrylic extensions and gel stuff (first time I'd ever been in a nail bar), I had a very bling-ey outfit, and had my hair done in a chignon. Will see if I can post a couple of photos...

Sausages and veg to dinner tonight, and a VERY quiet week to follow...

HauntingHazel · 07/11/2021 18:37

It's been a little tough this week, we had our anniversary and I've had a little too much to drink to celebrate (it was Tuesday, and I did only have the one drink) and I ate worse than I had planned. Well be eating out today as well, although I plan on making better choices, it'll still be hard. I'm not expecting a loss this week, although I had gained everything I lost during the week, I've almost dropped it all again (Maybe up a pound from last Monday). I hope to have a good loss next week though to make up for it.
I've been drinking more water all week, which has helped. And I did get back on plan on Wednesday.

Getyourheadaroundthis · 07/11/2021 19:49

Thanks @BIWI I will try hot water with lemon as have noticed I have slowly increased from 2 coffees a day to 6! Would vanilla chai, raspberry or other fruity herbals raise insulin? I’ve tried searching to find out but it’s unclear and you’re all so knowledgable here I’m in awe. Am 2.5kg down so far so not wanting to throw it off
