Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

Well, doesn't time fly?!

We've already completed the two, hardest weeks of Bootcamp.

So now, things get a bit different.

During the next 3 weeks, you'll be doing strict Bootcamp during the week, but at weekends, you can relax into Bootcamp Light. This means that you can introduce some fruit - in the form of berries - and some nuts/seeds, albeit occasionally and in moderation, and some alcohol - again, in moderation - and restricted to clear spirits with zero calorie mixers, and/or dry wines

As ever, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I sense that you're all coping really well, although it's also evident that there a lot of practical and (particularly) emotional challenges that are rearing their heads.

Stand tall and stay tough!

This WOE is not a very forgiving one, so it's important that you stick to the rules as much as you possibly, possibly can. I know that real life gets in the way sometimes, but the more you can resist all those obstacles and challenges, the better.

Here's to another successful week!

HOWEVER

I do need to warn you, if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp, that weeks 3 & 4 are very, very challenging. Your body is in the process of transitioning from burning carbs to burning fat; you have lost a lot of water weight, emptied your glycogen stores and have started burning fat. The next two weeks you need to see as consolidation weeks - you may not see much movement on the scales while this is happening.

DON'T PANIC!

You know that it works, because you've lost the weight in the first fortnight - so just KOKO (keep on keeping on), and all will be fine.

This is, though, the reason why - on this Bootcamp - we're aiming to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week. To give us the best chance of losing as we can.

Very good luck to all of us Flowers

This week's recipe is a fish one - seeing as how we've had a meat one and a veggie one!

Baked Marinated Salmon

One salmon steak per person

Marinade:

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
2 large cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
2 tbsps sesame oil
2 tbsps light soy sauce
juice of a lemon or lime
black pepper
sprinkling of dried oregano
sprinkling of dried chilli flakes (optional)

Mix together.

Put salmon pieces into a (non-metal) dish, pour marinade ingredients over them
Leave to marinade for at least 30 minutes
Wrap pieces in foil and bake in a hot oven for 15 minutes

This is lovely served with stir-fried veg - so typically I'd do finely shredded cabbage, baby sweetcorn, mangetout, pak choi. I sometimes also serve it with Bare Naked Noodles

I'm not expecting much from my weigh-in in the morning, going by my daily weigh-ins and the fact that I "broke" strict Boot Camp a meal early with 1.5 glasses of wine and some berries this evening Blush (My brother is over from France is my excuse and it was my turn to cook Wink). I did avoid the roast potatoes though Grin (rest of the meal was roasted crackling gammon first time I've tried roasting it, roasted asparagus and buttery leeks.

I was planning on doing the Shred in the morning (having not done it since Thursday) and then going for a run as the funeral tomorrow is only at 3.30 but ds, who is down from Aberdeen for the funeral, has been told his kilt (and all the accoutrements) is ready so needs to go in for his final fitting. He made the appointment for 12 but because of COP we need to allow ourselves plenty of time to get into town, as well as be ready to go to the funeral as it will be standing room only and there is limited parking at the crematorium. I don't want to try to squeeze too much in in the morning and end up being stressed.

1.5lbs off for me this week, which is normal for me.
Just sat having a coffee with cream and deciding what to have for breakfast. DH went back to work last night so the kids were a bit restless through the night, usually I would go for the sugar to get me through but not anymore Smile
Got a lot of jobs on my to do list today, so need to really make sure I stay on with the water.
Hope everyone has another fab week!

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/11/2021 05:53

After a couple of hit the deck situations and a long discussion it was decided medically that bootcamp is too low carb for me and that bootcamp light is going to be better. So i will be regrouping and progressing from there.
Unsurprising to see a weight bounce with all that is/was going on tbh. But new month and moving on.

Glenthebattleostrich · 01/11/2021 06:22

After a bad weekend I'm back being super strict.

Food was good yesterday but recovering from Saturday.

Todays food -

b scrambled eggs with spinach
l left over pork with some salad
d lb steaks cooked in butter with veg

no snacks and all the water.

@prettybird hope today goes as well as these things can.

ouchmyfeet · 01/11/2021 06:57

A pound on for me, which is actually 3lbs on from my lowest point last week, but to be expected given my weekend binge. Back on it today.

Leftover crispy chicken and coleslaw for lunch (crispy bit came from ground almonds, won't share recipe as it was not particularly nice!)

Not sure what's for tea, but it's definitely written on my menu plan

ouchmyfeet · 01/11/2021 06:58

Well done to those who have stuck with it for the two hard weeks - it gets easier now!

ShagMeRiggins · 01/11/2021 07:23

Good morning. Another pound down. Time to start the day with a nice glass of WATER!

Noavocado · 01/11/2021 07:32

Hi everyone hope you are all well and the weather not too bad where you are.
My loss over the last two weeks has really motivated me so going to up my exercise to daily swimming.

A quick question. Does keto really change your taste buds? I snuck 1 of my kids haribo last night and it tasted sooo sweet. Not enjoyably so. Is this normal?
Hope you all have a good week Star

BIWI · 01/11/2021 07:48

It is absolutely normal @Noavocado, and one of the objectives of Bootcamp!

It shows that you're heading in absolutely the right direction although if you sneak any more Haribos you'll just be in reverse!

Morning all and thank you for the new thread @BIWI.

1lb off for me. I'll have to have a think about why it's so much less this week. Nothing obvious.

My muffins came out super cute as I only had a Christmas village cake mould to do them in Grin

Could anyone help me out with a problem please? I work in a school and have to do duties. This means my break to eat can be at 10am when I am not up to anything hot. I'm often on duty outside a toilet at lunch so can't eat. What could I take to eat at break? Today I have house shaped muffins but I don't know about tomorrow. I tend to just have cheese sticks!

Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp
Noavocado · 01/11/2021 08:04

Point taken @BIWI. It won't happen again Blush

BIWI · 01/11/2021 08:09

@MerylSqueak

What are you eating for breakfast? If you have days when you can't really eat in the middle of the day, then I'd make sure you have a very satisfying breakfast - something like bacon and eggs with mushrooms and fried tomatoes. Something with lots of protein and fat.

Then cheese or muffins should be enough to tide you over till you get home.

NotwatchingSpooks · 01/11/2021 08:12

Morning all, so I was a 1 1/2 lbs off yesterday and after a good day just 1/2 off today, so I’m going to log a 1 lb loss, (and hope it sticks😀)

So that’s 4 lbs off in total so far, hurrah.

@prettybird hope today passes gently

pinknsparkly · 01/11/2021 08:13

Morning all! I've been much quieter on this bootcamp than the previous one (which was my first, and I really needed the support for that one Grin). But I have been following along behind the scenes where I can. I had a couple of halloween sweets over the weekend Blush but am back on the wagon this week. And actually, I found I didn't even have to force myself not to eat anymore, I was satisfied with just a couple which is a MASSIVE deal for me as I'm a complete sugar monster!!

This week I've lost 2lb, but my BMI has also dropped enough that it is now closer to "normal" than "obese" (BMI of 27). I tend to find it works better for me to have a variety of measures I can use to as yardsticks to measure my progress against: last bootcamp I dropped into the 150-something lb range (by a smidgen) and now I'm looking forward to dropping into the 60-something kg range but I think that will take a few weeks yet (I weighed in this morning at 71.2kg). Does anyone else do something similar or am I slightly mad??

Best of luck to everyone this week!

Andi2020 · 01/11/2021 08:14

@prettybird hope your day goes ok.
Well done everyone getting first 2 hard weeks over.

missfliss · 01/11/2021 08:26

The scales aren't moving much this week again for me - but then I've barely moved this week.
I've entered the lowest weight I had this week.
Just bored of being ill now. Want to get back to usual activities ( running and sea swims).

MercedesBenz · 01/11/2021 08:51

2 lb off this week
So 5lb in two weeks
Very happy 😃
Not had time to read this new thread , will catch up later
Happy Monday !

Dellabob123 · 01/11/2021 08:59

Morning campers.
Maintain race for me , so just the usual 2lb fluctuation over the week.

Food been good, didn’t have enough water yesterday and the thirst woke me up!!!

I hear you on the tastebud change. I do t eat sweet stuff and out of politeness I have a toasted marshmallow at a kids party. It was actually disgusting and I felt like I was just pouring sugar in my mouth straight from the packet. I got home and some cheese just to try and get away from it.

I’m going to get ingredients for a lamb chop try bake from the new cookbook. Will report back.

Dellabob123 · 01/11/2021 09:00

Maintain race! That’s interesting. Should have been maintenance!

Shallwegoforawalk · 01/11/2021 09:13

I've not done well and have struggled to get family to accept what I'm trying to do.

So i basically lost my shit (not shouty more teary) with DH yesterday. Explained how important this is to me, how much I struggle when he "tempts" me with "oh go on it's only blah blah" that sugar and things like crisps is a trigger for me and I desperately want to lose weight in a healthy way like this LC over the next few months and not a mad restrictive diet just before my big holiday.

I am starting again with 2 weeks strict and I WILL do this.

Eggs and water for breakfast!

Angliski · 01/11/2021 09:15

Third time lucky! On the right thread now!

Angliski

Hello! Here I am again, desperate! I’m 5ft 2 and 15 stone sad it’s been a tough old road this year but I am determined. I ONOW how much easier it is to control my appetite once I get into this Bootxamp zone.

So I am joining if that’s ok?

Please help me be accountable- these first few days are the hardest for me.

Breakfast was
2 boiled eggs, 20g salmon, 20g goats cheese carrot cucumber and peppers and sauerkraut. Green tea.

Aderyn21 · 01/11/2021 09:30

2lb off for me, so heading in the right direction. Good luck to everyone for their wrogh ins

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 01/11/2021 09:59

Morning all

1.6 lb off for me this week which was unexpected as I'd been out for dinner Friday and out for lunch Saturday but that menu did have some options that were good for low carb (other than dessert - less said about that the better) but I did drive both times and stuck with drinking sparkling water to try to keep water levels up.

I also avoided sweets for Halloween- we stuck a tub outside for people to help themselves so they were out of sight and easier to ignore.

I'm hoping I'll find it easier to stick to with bootcamp light at weekends but eating out is the biggest issue - everything at some pubs seems to include bread or chips or both.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 01/11/2021 10:01

@Shallwegoforawalk I'm not surprised you lost the plot with that from your DH - I'm lucky in that mine understands low carbing- he used fast 800 and low carb to reverse T2 diabetes a few years back and is mostly eating the same as me.

KeyLimePies · 01/11/2021 10:02

Another 2.2lb off for me this week - exactly the same as last week so 4.4lb off so far.

I've also lost an inch each from bust, waist and tummy and 0.5" from hips, my M&S size 14 jeans are getting baggy.

I forgot to cancel a free trial for 8Fiit fitness app (which I never used) and got hammered for an £80 yearly membership - so I plan to use it starting this week.

Looking forward to dinner tonight which is steak with a creamy mushroom sauce, grilled asparagus and fried tomatoes.
