Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp - week 1

StuntNun · 02/08/2021 05:24

Welcome to the 2021 Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp lasting for the next six weeks and run by myself and @Oneborneverydecade. If you're an old hand at eating low carb then please do chip in with your experiences to help motivate our newbies. Every Monday is weigh-in day and you can log your weight on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness to keep track of your progress. If you can't add your weight for any reason then please post it on here and someone will add you to the spreadsheet.

Make sure you've read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules on the preparation thread either for strict Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light depending on which one you choose. There are also some meal ideas and shopping suggestions on the preparation thread if you need some tips. As always, if you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. We have lots of experience between us.

A quick reminder of the rules for strict Bootcamp (first two weeks):

  1. Eat three meals a day (plus snacks if hungry)
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nut/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And for Bootcamp Light:

  1. Eat when you are hungry
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. Alcohol is allowed occasionally
  8. Up to one portion of (low carb) fruit per day
  9. Nut and seeds in small quantities
10. No sugar except dark chocolate, and limit artificial sweeteners

Nobloat21 your weight can easily fluctuate by 3 lb between two days. If you're going to weight daily, I suggest using a weight tracking app that uses an average over several days such as Happy Scale.

oscarandelliesdad · 03/08/2021 08:35

Checking in. I only weigh once a week because of daily fluctuations and I get down hearted too quickly.
B- Greek yogurt
L- eggs with turkey bacon, avacado and tomatoes
D- something chickeny with green beans and courgettes.
Missing my carbs and sugar today. It is half eleven my time and the bananas are giving me the eye. Have good days all.

Nobloat21 · 03/08/2021 08:40

Ok, sorry everybody. I left it an hour and weighed again (tmi but I may have been to the loo), I've actually lost a pound. And relax!! Smile

HarrietDVane · 03/08/2021 09:00

Morning all
Decorating continues apace here, but it is at least keeping me out of the fridge, not to mention tweaking muscles I'd forgotten I had!

B - Coffee
L - Not sure yet, probably egg mayonnaise with salad
D - Salmon, creamed spinach, French beans

BIWI · 03/08/2021 09:05

@ZiggZagg

Evening all!

I ended up fasting as we went for a walk on the beach, I resisted ice cream!!

D I had homemade beef burgers, 2 boiled eggs, lots of green salad with a lemon, chili olive oil sauce and mayo- added a SLCR when I remembered I had taken it out of the freezer to defrost.

Im stuffed, drank all the water and feeling positive!

Also forgot to thank @StuntNun and @Oneborneverydecade for doing this! I'm sure @biwi is appreciative of the break! Grin

I am! But it’s very odd not to be marching around with The Big Stick! 😁
ZiggZagg · 03/08/2021 09:12

Pass the stick to the others and enjoy the rest Grin

I've woken up not hungry, the body clearly remembers intermittent fasting Smile

L will be egg salad with mayo and an olive oil dressing
D will be chicken and FLGV with olive oil dressing and some cheesy cream mushrooms

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Kerplunkk · 03/08/2021 09:19

Not familiar with all the acronyms yet - what does FLGV mean?

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 03/08/2021 09:30

Morning morning!

@Kerplunkk it's Fuck-Loads of Green Veg 🥦

Sorry - late to the party. Have entered yesterday's weight (which is higher than it should be, as I cunningly refilled my glycogen stores last week, to give me an artificial boost in week one. Possibly self-defeating behaviour...).

Thanks so much again @StuntNun and @Oneborneverydecade 💐

I have more social stuff lined up now than the last boot camp, so I'm planning to do full boot camp Mon-Thurs, and Bootcamp light at the weekends. Should give me a bit of flexibility, and stop me going off-track.

I'm a daily weigher. Not generally bothered by the fluctuations - and my lowest weight of the week is generally on a Thursday, so that's the weight I use on the spreadsheet.

Enjoy being an observer @BIW Grin. Hope your Big Stick hand doesn't get too twitchy.

Good luck everyone!

naemates · 03/08/2021 09:35

Morning! I'm a day late as got back from hol on Sunday night and there was no real food in the house, but I'm organised now.

Aside from the last maybe 3 days when I had cake for most meals, I've been doing low carb since the start of Jun so hoping to keep with only having coffee for breakfast.

B: coffee with cream
L: broccoli & Stilton soup (made with shallots), celery & cucumber sticks
D: unfortunately going out for dinner tonight and not sure where yet, but will behave

Excited to be in the spreadsheet and all official this time round

NotwatchingSpooks · 03/08/2021 09:35

Morning can I join you, I am long time bootcamper who has been distracted over the last few months and have gained half a stone🤭

I know it works and the bootcamp thread is really beneficial.

Dellabob123 · 03/08/2021 09:45

Morning.
Not hungry in the mornings, so just on my coffee and cream. Will have cheese muffin later. We got given an amazing Portuguese gin as a gift and I had a small one last night-but I was strict food wise all day.

I need ideas for next week as we’re away in Devon and I don’t want to derail 7 weeks of amazing LC work. So, I’ll be making cheese muffins to take for the week. Olives, almonds, avocado to snack on. I’ll always get veg in. Eggs, butter.

Need to have something to hand when the kids get ice cream, have chips etc.

Any other suggestions??Smile

Rayna37 · 03/08/2021 09:45

I'm a daily weigher too with Thursday always my lowest of the week!

Lovely dinner last night- used up some frozen cauliflower, a red onion and the rest of the cabbage I used for coleslaw last week roasted in the oven in olive oil and cumin, ground coriander, ground ginger and paprika. Was delicious alongside a pork chop with a big juicy edge of fat!

Courgetti bolognese tonight- off for a big filling later so planned something manageable. All I can say is beware pork crackling, particularly when the dentists were shut! (Not taking own advice).

Drank masses of water yesterday and went for a swim too Halo

colouringindoors · 03/08/2021 09:48

Morning.

Yesterday I ate
Half tub m&s mozz and dried tomatoes in olive oil from their deli selection, with some spinach leaves

Ham and courgette sauteed with herbs then creme fraiche added for sauce, served with Konjac noodles.

Have woken up with splitting headache which I don't need as have to drive for 3 hours later.

Kerplunkk · 03/08/2021 10:02

Della
What about some babybels or put some Greek yoghurt into a pot to carry around

Kerplunkk · 03/08/2021 10:03

Thanks Miles that made laugh Grin

Dellabob123 · 03/08/2021 10:16

@Kerplunkk
Forgot about babybels - that used to be a staple!

Will take Greek yog, tuna/Mayo.
Can you get snack packets of olives?

Bryonyshcmyony · 03/08/2021 10:25

Need to have something to hand when the kids get ice cream, have chips etc

Sorry to be boring but I just don't have anything on these occasions

StuntNun · 03/08/2021 10:25

Get some electrolytes @colouringindoors - a sprinkle of salt and squeeze of lemon in water - and take some painkillers.

Hi guys, I did LCHF for a year or so following these boot camps.
It’s the only diet I have ever lost weight on and stuck to for any length of time.
I have since become vegan so I won’t post my food as it is more boot camp light but I want to lose about a stone so will be following in the background. It’s so motivating to follow these threads though and it feels oddly reassuring to be back on the low carb train!

DaesieMay · 03/08/2021 10:38

I might not be looking hard enough but I can't find if flaxseed is allowed. It can make nice crackers but is it permitted?

HaggisTheGreat · 03/08/2021 10:59

@Dellabob123 I tend to get a nice drink when others get ice cream etc. Often a coffee (hot or iced). Sometimes a Diet Coke (that’s not encouraged in Boot Camp but personally I find the odd one doesn’t affect my sugar cravings or weight loss).

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 03/08/2021 11:02

Do you like olives, @Dellabob123 ? They're easy & portable.

Tbh, you may find your sugar cravings have gone by then, so you won't find that you need to resist. That happened to me on my first bootcamp - for the first time in my life.

If I fancy something when the kids have an ice-cream, I usually have a tea or coffee: hits the spot for me.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 03/08/2021 11:02

Cross-posts, @HaggisTheGreat . Great minds!

bettybigballs · 03/08/2021 11:04

Morning campers, @TheHoundsofLove your cauli soups sounds amazing, have some doleclatte (sp?) would you mind sharing your recipe?
Today is looking like:
B: coffee
L: a cheese souffle from waitrose (channeling my inner 80s dinner party today) with salad
D: spicy pork with green beans and cauli rice

Already feeling a bit more in control of myself after not tracking for a couple of months. Also i'm sure that lots of you will know these but just in case not, these are the BEST snack: www.cheesies.co.uk

Rayna37 · 03/08/2021 11:12

@Dellabob123 you can definitely get olives as a snack pack. The packaging is a nightmare environmentally but they're really useful for a long shelf life highly portable emergency snack.

@DaesieMay flaxseed is fine in bootcamp light (comes under nuts and seeds) but do consume with moderation. The carb counts on the packaging vary wildly and seem a little unreliable! I use the ground sort in low carb "porridge" along with chia seeds, ground almonds and other seeds as an occasional treat.
