Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp - week 1

StuntNun · 02/08/2021 05:24

Welcome to the 2021 Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp lasting for the next six weeks and run by myself and @Oneborneverydecade. If you're an old hand at eating low carb then please do chip in with your experiences to help motivate our newbies. Every Monday is weigh-in day and you can log your weight on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness to keep track of your progress. If you can't add your weight for any reason then please post it on here and someone will add you to the spreadsheet.

Make sure you've read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules on the preparation thread either for strict Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light depending on which one you choose. There are also some meal ideas and shopping suggestions on the preparation thread if you need some tips. As always, if you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. We have lots of experience between us.

A quick reminder of the rules for strict Bootcamp (first two weeks):

  1. Eat three meals a day (plus snacks if hungry)
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nut/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And for Bootcamp Light:

  1. Eat when you are hungry
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. Alcohol is allowed occasionally
  8. Up to one portion of (low carb) fruit per day
  9. Nut and seeds in small quantities
10. No sugar except dark chocolate, and limit artificial sweeteners

Don't feel like you have to weigh @2021V2 there's no obligation to use the spreadsheet and you could use a tape measure or item of clothing to measure your progress if that's easier

Oneborneverydecade · 02/08/2021 08:31

@MalFunkshun I'm ignoring DDs half eaten toast for the first time in months Well done on a great start.
@StuntNun I weighed and it wasn't as bad as I feared, 11st 8 3/4 so I've gained about 4lb in maintenance.

Jollyholibobs · 02/08/2021 08:39

Hello everyone. Really looking forward to this mini boot camp. I started easing in last Tuesday. I have done LCHF before and got to my all time low weight last Dec. Felt great and bought new clothes but maintenance is hard and I am 9-16lbs up on my target range now. I now have learned that this really is a great WOE and that when I let the carb creep in I only made it difficult to resist cravings and binges. Been reading Gary Taubes book The Case For Keto to remind myself of the theory behind this and reinforce my resolve.

Today’s plan
B spinach omelette
L avacado and cheese salad
D Fritatta and loads of veg

Good luck every one.

@2021V2 you can always take measurements instead of weighing in. Don't let it stop you from getting started!

Good morning everyone and thank you @StuntNun and @Oneborneverydecade for sorting out the spreadsheet.

I'm a seasoned LCer so will move straight to Bootcamp Light - largely because I can't face anything more than coffee for breakfast these days, but also 'cos I like the odd handful of berries now and then!

B - coffee!
L - cold meats, green salad with olive oil and lemon juice vinaigrette, hard boiled eggs, olives
D - home made beef burgers, green salad, olives, vinaigrette. Greek yogurt (plain).

I'll be making my way through the water throughout the day - keeping busy today as I have foolishly decided to paint DD's room this week.

oscarandelliesdad · 02/08/2021 09:09

Good morning! Busy hard boiling eggs and ready to goGrin

oscarandelliesdad · 02/08/2021 09:11

Good luck with the painting @HarrietDVane. What colour are you doing it? (nosey cow that I am!)

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/08/2021 09:11

Hello all! Thought I'd pop in for the chat. I've never really stopped low-carbing since I started in 2019, so sort of permanently on Bootcamp Light.

Has anyone else seen the thread on Burford Brown eggs that's going on at the moment? Poor OP was only asking if there's a cheaper equivalent to BB eggs and is getting lectured by how terribly unhealthy her diet is because she eats 2-3 eggs a day.

I haven't dared to mention how many eggs your average Bootcamper gets through...🥚🍳😆

HarrietDVane · 02/08/2021 09:20

@oscarandelliesdad

Good luck with the painting *@HarrietDVane*. What colour are you doing it? (nosey cow that I am!)
Thanks @oscarandelliesdad - it's going to be pale blue (Dulux Mineral Mist) but I fear today is going to be all about the boring prep rather than the 'fun' painting bit. Already wishing I hadn't promised to do it! Grin
MalFunkshun · 02/08/2021 09:22

Ha @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal I did see it and that was my thought too! Didn’t reply on there though. Love me some Burfords and I agree with that OP that nothing else quite matches them.

TheHoundsofLove · 02/08/2021 09:27

@StuntNun Thanks - I've got some lemon juice so I'll give that a try.

BestIsWest · 02/08/2021 09:30

Morning.
Been doing this since April but going to be cutting down on the dairy for the next few weeks.
Boiled eggs mashed with butter for breakfast. Tea with sugar free almond milk.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/08/2021 09:30

I've never actually tried them, normally just get a dozen of whichever supermarket I'm in own brand free range. Should remedy that, really, although worried about adding an expensive egg habit to my already fairly expensive diet of lots of meat, dairy and fresh veg!

TidyDancer · 02/08/2021 09:35

Morning all. Will add to the spreadsheet later and take some measurements too. I'm probably bigger than most if not all of you, so judging myself a bit this morning but treating this as a new start!

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 02/08/2021 09:35

Morning! Just checking in and added weight to spreadsheet. I've been on bc since April so on bootcamp light. I'm also on holiday in Devon at the moment so trying not to do too much damage to my weight...!

Yesterday wasn't too bad:
B - nuts, Greek yoghurt
L - at a farm shop- grilled chicken and pancetta salad no honey mustard dressing (they did not bring me any mayo Sad)
D - chicken tikka, cream cheese and salad with olive oil
S - some 90% dark chocolate (more than I should so need to cut down on this)
Didn't drink enough water but lots of mint tea

Today need more water, more fat and less choc! My parents in law are making coq au vin so need to avoid the carbier veg and bread.

Kerplunkk · 02/08/2021 09:38

Morning everyone.
Looking forward to starting properly today, this is my first bootcamp, did start on the weekend but a 1 or 2 bumps in that road,
Much to learn but grateful for all the advice on these threads Smile

bettybigballs · 02/08/2021 09:39

Morning all, very happy to be back on track after a month of being all overt he show. Would like to get rid of half a stone over the camp. I'm on BC lite. Plan for today is:

B: coffee - never hungry in the morning
L: cauliflower soup with chorizo
D: spiced chicken with buttered veg and a little cheese board with celery

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/08/2021 09:41

Breakfast - piece of cheese wrapped in ham with butter on top!
2 x tablespoons full fat Greek yogurt
Spoonful of almond butter

L: Brussels sprouts microwaved with butter
2 x chicken thighs with skin, spinach and mushrooms butter and lots of EVOO over it
D: chorizo and feta salad (supposed to have butternut squash as well but I leave that out)

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/08/2021 09:42

I'm BC Lite!

Kerplunkk · 02/08/2021 09:42

Although after worrying about going ‘off piste’ I have just weighed and I’m down just over 4lbs, this is just from starting halfway through the day Friday.
Wow I am mega chuffed with that, will be nice to see the scales tip to under the 12st mark hopefully

Kerplunkk · 02/08/2021 09:43

Betty cauliflower soup with chorizo sounds delicious, do you have a recipe please?

Oneborneverydecade · 02/08/2021 09:44

I wish I liked eggs - I feel like it would make LCHF breakfasts easier

Decided not to fast today after an off plan weekend so I've started the day with bacon fried in butter, some lambs lettuce and tomatoes plus a large dollop of mayo

Lunch will be a chicken mayo salad. Dinner tbc

I'm taking DS2 to the cinema this afternoon so the challenge will be avoiding the dark choc hot chocolate

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 02/08/2021 10:08

Hi all, and hello again to some. Thanks for this thread!

Only up 2lbs from the end of the last one in June, which is nothing, and around four stone off overall since starting in May 2020.
I’m not expecting much loss as I’m pretty close to my lowest limit I reckon, and I’m on holiday this week so will be eating in the evenings, and drinking a bit more, both of which stop me losing.

But I’ll be back on I this time next week with a gain to lose, iykwim...

Rayna37 · 02/08/2021 10:35

Morning! I've been largely maintaining for years but I'm half a stone over my goal so aiming to focus for the 5 weeks until I go on holiday and see if I can get that off.

Laughing with @MalFunkshun I would like credit for not eating the cream cakes that have been brought in to work honestly more cakes than people here right now FFS

2 boiled eggs for a 10:15 desk breakfast.
Lunch is salad (spinach tomato cucumber olives plus Olive oil as "dressing") with a lemon tuna pot- the John West infusions one, trying for the first time for a change! Plus Greek yogurt
Dinner will be a pork chop but I need to go veg shopping.

Already 500ml as a tea and a coffee, one litre of water and 250ml of chamomile down.

Dellabob123 · 02/08/2021 10:38

Morning everyone. I’m a seasoned LC er, and currently on week 7 of a reboot. Really enjoying it. Noticed a couple of alcohol slips and need the motivation.

Today’s plan is
B coffee with cream and 2 cheese and almond muffins
L tuna Mayo salad wth avocado
D - some meat and buttered veg

This is my first boot camp - it moves s quick !!
