StuntNun · 02/08/2021 05:24

Welcome to the 2021 Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp lasting for the next six weeks and run by myself and @Oneborneverydecade. If you're an old hand at eating low carb then please do chip in with your experiences to help motivate our newbies. Every Monday is weigh-in day and you can log your weight on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness to keep track of your progress. If you can't add your weight for any reason then please post it on here and someone will add you to the spreadsheet.

Make sure you've read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules on the preparation thread either for strict Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light depending on which one you choose. There are also some meal ideas and shopping suggestions on the preparation thread if you need some tips. As always, if you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. We have lots of experience between us.

A quick reminder of the rules for strict Bootcamp (first two weeks):

  1. Eat three meals a day (plus snacks if hungry)
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nut/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And for Bootcamp Light:

  1. Eat when you are hungry
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. Alcohol is allowed occasionally
  8. Up to one portion of (low carb) fruit per day
  9. Nut and seeds in small quantities
10. No sugar except dark chocolate, and limit artificial sweeteners

Hello, thank you very much for the mini boot camp! I lurked quietly through the last boot camp and did ok (lightest I’ve been in three years though still about half way to pre-DC weight), but am now finding it really hard to stick to it due to increased socialising and general summer holiday vibes. Hope this gives me a much-needed kick up my (ample!) bum, and am de-lurking in to try and be more accountable!
No breakfast as I’ve been doing this for a while and am not naturally a morning eater
Lunch: courgette and feta salad
Dinner: not sure yet

Kerplunkk · 02/08/2021 10:57

Rayna you have just reminded me to up my water intake, have only had a cup of green tea and a glass of water!

pelosi · 02/08/2021 11:01

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

Hello all! Thought I'd pop in for the chat. I've never really stopped low-carbing since I started in 2019, so sort of permanently on Bootcamp Light.

Has anyone else seen the thread on Burford Brown eggs that's going on at the moment? Poor OP was only asking if there's a cheaper equivalent to BB eggs and is getting lectured by how terribly unhealthy her diet is because she eats 2-3 eggs a day.

I haven't dared to mention how many eggs your average Bootcamper gets through...🥚🍳😆

Hi all, so happy to get back into BC, did my first one in Jan 2021.

Re do you have a link to the thread? Grin

BBs are expensive so I buy them just for scrambled eggs. For boiled eggs I just use FR. My egg poaching skills aren't great so I don't use BBs for them either.

Morning all! I'm ready and motivated!

I've added my weight to the sheet and am thoroughly disappointed in myself! I have gained 28lbs since April when my dad died Sad

Time to get serious as this WOE works for everything for me- weight loss, general health and mental well-being! I've felt totally shitty in general so here goes!

L will be egg mayo on SLCR and salad
D will be tuna mayo with FLGV

Have a few boiled eggs and chicken pieces to snack on if needed and an just finishing my first liter of water!!

As @shagmeriggins would say DRINK WATER!!!

Kerplunkk · 02/08/2021 12:45

First days meals so far

B - 3 boiled egg mashed with mayo
L - Tuna mayo, greens beans & half a ball of mozzarella
D - planning bolegnase with the remainder of green beans

No wonder this woe is so effective, no time to snack when you spend half the day in the bathroom Wink

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 12:52

Hi, I missed sign up as can't cut and paste from phone (if i am being silly and there is an easy way to do this that I haven't seen then do please tell me).

B: random fridge tidy up of: end of homemade smoked mackerel pate with celery, two pieces of salami, and chicken liver pate with celery.
L: roast hispi cabbage and some other stuff that I haven't figured out yet
D: chicken curry (homemade)

Need to foooorrrrrrcccce the water down. I hate water. I realise this is unreasonable.

Oneborneverydecade · 02/08/2021 12:57

@Okaygreatthanks did you want to be added to the spreadsheet? It's never too late - well maybe in 7 weeks Wink

cheeseisthebest · 02/08/2021 13:01

Hi everyone!
Still bobbing around 10st oh dear. Need to be focused.
Did first bootcamp Jan this year and lost 11lb so I know it works!
Busy week this week and getting our puppy on Friday. Very excited and apprehensive!

MalFunkshun · 02/08/2021 13:18

@Dellabob123 cheese and almond muffins sound lovely - have you got a recipe?

Have had a piece of salmon mixed with ‘courgetti’ and cream cheese for lunch, plus 1.5l water drink. Also, continuing the theme, I didn’t eat any of my DC’s homemade pizza crusts which they left at lunchtime Grin I don’t think I realised how much I mindlessly picked before this…

Dellabob123 · 02/08/2021 13:33

@MalFunkshun They are very yummy and extremely filling. Recipe below. I found on a random site so apologies if it’s been posted before or credited to someone else:
Cheese muffins

150g ground almonds
4 large eggs
1/2 tsp baking soda
Tablespoon of Greek yog
1/2-1 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1:2 tsp onion/mustard powder
170g strong cheese

Whisk eggs until fluffy
Add in all the other ingredients including most of the cheese and mix well
Line 12 muffin tins and fill
Sprinkle with remaining cheese
Bake for 20/25 mins at fan180 degrees

Let fully cool as easier to get out of cases. Can also toast

StuntNun · 02/08/2021 13:45

Note that the cheese muffins aren't Bootcamp-compliant because they contain nuts so only for Bootcamp Light. I have a different recipe with no yogurt that I use.

Christened the scales in the new bathroom have I mentioned that I have a lovely new bathroom? Wink to weigh in at 11st 9.5lb. Up from where I finished the last Boot Camp but not as bad as I feared after not weighing for about 6 weeks.

The hope and expectation is that now that I can weigh myself again I can get focussed with this mini Boot Camp and then the pre-Christmas BC, I can lose a stone and get to under 10st 10lb (which for me is normal BMI) by Christmas. Smile

cheeseisthebest · 02/08/2021 13:49

Your new bathroom looks gorgeous prettybird.

Dellabob123 · 02/08/2021 14:04

Thanks @StuntNun Smile
I forgot ....currently on week 7

Howdidthathappen1 · 02/08/2021 14:11

Perfect starting time for me as just spent weeks holiday in Brighton- all the pastries and cakes were consumed!! But I did so knowing that having got my weight under control during last bootcamp I can do it again. 4lbs up in a week which is much better than I thought!
Too much cheese today so far due to not having been shopping yet so
B. Halloumi, avocado and tomato
L. Baked cauliflower with smoked cheddar
D. Some sort of curry with some sort of veg rice - probably broccoli rice

prettybird · 02/08/2021 14:15

Remind me again, which painkiller is better on Boot Camp? Ibuprofen or Paracetamol?

bettybigballs · 02/08/2021 14:28

@Kerplunkk Cauli soup is delicious, even if it isn't really the weather for it. In my instant pot i pop two chopped onions (shallots if you're being stricter) a chopped whole head of cauliflower and pressure cook for 15 mins. Wizz with handblender, put through a sieve so it's all smooth, season and add a little cream. I top it with crispy fried chorizo and it is sooo good.

TheHoundsofLove · 02/08/2021 14:40

That sounds lovely betty . I make a cauliflower, gorgonzola and wholegrain mustard soup which is lovely, but could be further improved with some crispy chorizo on top!

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 15:03

Hello!

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 15:23

Oneborneverydecade · 02/08/2021 15:32

Here's to 10st 10!

They sound tasty @Dellabob123 thanks

HarrietDVane · 02/08/2021 15:41

I wish I was 11st 9lb... GrinBlush I can't remember when I was last under 12st!

TurquoiseBaubles · 02/08/2021 15:43

I'm just placemarking. I'll have to start tomorrow due to a rather unfortunate lunch today Blush

prettybird · 02/08/2021 16:09

No @Oneborneverydecade - I'm 5' 5 and a half inches Grin

That half inch makes all the difference for BMI calculations Wink

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 16:28

HarrietDVane

Love your name!!!

hee hee. Good to know oneborneverydecade! I'm aiming for 11 stone with this bootcamp. I'm staying with a friend for 3 days this week and have a weeks holiday in a few days time and realistically will have a few carb days (though much less than normal).

My ultimate goal is 10st which is still heavy for my height, but would be a massive improvement in BMI.... though not quite what NHS recommend...
