Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp - week 1

StuntNun · 02/08/2021 05:24

Welcome to the 2021 Summer Low Carb mini-Bootcamp lasting for the next six weeks and run by myself and @Oneborneverydecade. If you're an old hand at eating low carb then please do chip in with your experiences to help motivate our newbies. Every Monday is weigh-in day and you can log your weight on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness to keep track of your progress. If you can't add your weight for any reason then please post it on here and someone will add you to the spreadsheet.

Make sure you've read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules on the preparation thread either for strict Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light depending on which one you choose. There are also some meal ideas and shopping suggestions on the preparation thread if you need some tips. As always, if you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. We have lots of experience between us.

A quick reminder of the rules for strict Bootcamp (first two weeks):

 1. Eat three meals a day (plus snacks if hungry)
 2. Avoid processed foods
 3. Eat lots of fat
 4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
 5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
 6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
 7. No alcohol
 8. No fruit
 9. No nut/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

And for Bootcamp Light:

 1. Eat when you are hungry
 2. Avoid processed foods
 3. Eat lots of fat
 4. Eat plenty of vegetables and salad
 5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
 6. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
 7. Alcohol is allowed occasionally
 8. Up to one portion of (low carb) fruit per day
 9. Nut and seeds in small quantities
10. No sugar except dark chocolate, and limit artificial sweeteners

*few weeks time

Nobloat21 · 02/08/2021 16:50

Can somebody please add my starting weight to the spreadsheet?

Nobloat21 · 02/08/2021 17:01

I started today at 13 stone 8lbs.

Andi2020 · 02/08/2021 18:31

Good look everyone
Your stories keep me motivated that this works

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/08/2021 18:44

@HarrietDVane

I wish I was 11st 9lb... GrinBlush I can't remember when I was last under 12st!
Me neither. In fact, I can't remember the last time I was under 13st. I think I got close in December but then I've put on about 1.5 at since then Blush. The aim now is to get started on LC and stick with it long term. I know it works, I know it gets my diabetes under control, I know this needs to be consistent. I need to lose about 3st, but that's secondary to getting the diabetes back under control.
MsAwesomeDragon · 02/08/2021 18:50

I have drunk 3 litres of water today, just half a litre to go.
B: cheesy scrambled egg
L: salad with tuna and cheese
D: chicken and veg curry with extra green veg

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 19:19
@Okaygreatthanks did you want to be added to the spreadsheet? It's never too late - well maybe in 7 weeks Wink
I would LOVE to be added to the spreadsheet by someone kind! I snuck in a post to the end of the signup but was prob too late!

Thank you!!

Kerplunkk · 02/08/2021 19:40

Thanks Betty sounds delicious and easy to make as a bonus Smile

ouchmyfeet · 02/08/2021 20:04

Evening all, so glad to have bootcamp back as I have been off piste since May and have put on 5lbs. I weighed in a day early as I'm away for a couple of days so will be starting a bit late. Choices today at a theme park included pizza Blush

I made a better choice this evening and had my burger "naked". Can recommend Gourmet Burger Kitchen for eating out, for any of their burgers they will swap the bun for a huge salad topped with a gorgeous slaw Halo

Home on Wednesday and reliant on eating out until then so properly back on it in a couple of days. I'm aiming to shift a stone in 6 weeks which should be doable as I have a lot to lose. Good luck everyone.

ouchmyfeet · 02/08/2021 20:06

Ps I think I've added everyone to the spreadsheet who wanted to be there. Let me know if you want to be added or just stick yourself on there

FoolShapeHeart · 02/08/2021 20:35

Is it possible/sensible to start part-way through? My diet is utterly crap - carbs, sugar, caffeine. I'm low on iron & b12, am insulin resistant, chronically exhausted & get migraines. And a lone parent to a preschooler. Going straight from where I am to bootcamp would be more than I can realistically handle, so would transitioning for the next week or two and starting my week 1 alongside your week 3s be workable? I desperately need to do something but I just don't have the spoons to cope with major withdrawals.

H1Drangea · 02/08/2021 21:02

Weighed in this morning , but will start Bootcamp tomorrow as we had a rare day out and a picnic ( which led to a doughnut , and then an icecream which I know aren't allowed )
Have drunk loads of water though
So , yes , placemarking really

DaesieMay · 02/08/2021 21:18

Knew it was coming but I think I'm just about out of the migraine I knew I'd get. I started yesterday and by the early evening I felt retched .... 24 hours in bed or floating in a bath and I've managed to eat again and can think about food!
Looking forward to low carb eating again after gaining so much weight in the difficulties of the last year.
Thank you for organising this! 😊

ZiggZagg · 02/08/2021 21:44

Evening all!

I ended up fasting as we went for a walk on the beach, I resisted ice cream!!

D I had homemade beef burgers, 2 boiled eggs, lots of green salad with a lemon, chili olive oil sauce and mayo- added a SLCR when I remembered I had taken it out of the freezer to defrost.

Im stuffed, drank all the water and feeling positive!

Also forgot to thank @StuntNun and @Oneborneverydecade for doing this! I'm sure @biwi is appreciative of the break! Grin

StuntNun · 02/08/2021 22:10

Yes @FoolShapeHeart lots of people join partway through a Bootcamp - that's how I got started!

@prettybird paracetamol is I supposed to be better than Ibuprofen but I can't remember why. I have to take NSAIDS for osteoarthritis and they didn't seem to affect my weight loss so I suspect Ibuprofen isn't all that bad anyway.

KateF · 02/08/2021 22:41

Hi, I'm on week 6 and have lost about 10lb so far. I have an awful lot to lose and am too ashamed to write what I weigh so I'll just let you know what I lose each week if that's okay.

B scrambled eggs, one lowish carb sausage
L chicken mayo and salad
D pork stir fry with FLGV
Am managing 3.5l water most days

prettybird · 02/08/2021 23:01

@KateF - some people just put themselves down as a 100 on the spreadsheet and record their loss from there.

Just need to remind yourself not to get over excited at the percentages Wink

You're doing brilliantly. Thanks The journey of a 100 miles starts with the first step Halo

Or another way of looking at it (as one Boot Camper's boss had once pointed out to her - I always forget who it was Blush) is that even if it [whatever your goal is] is going to take a long time, in a year's [insert time period of your choice] time, the time will have passed anyway, so why not be a little further along the path that you want. Smile

ditavonteesed · 03/08/2021 06:25

@FoolShapeHeart I would recommend planning and then jumping straight in, I didn't think I could do it and only ever planned to do it for a month, after 3 days I wasn't hungry and wasn't craving crap for possibly the first time in my adult life. 8 months later and 3 and a bit stone down I'm where I never thought I would be. It's a bit like getting in a cold swimming pool and so worth it.

wildseas · 03/08/2021 06:52

Hi everyone 👋

Do you mind if I join? I’m on holiday this week so thinking I could start from Sunday once I get home.

I’m 11st7lb. Want to lose just over a stone to take me down to my normal pre lockdown weight.

Nobloat21 · 03/08/2021 07:10

Ok, so I've weighed today! Yes, I know only one day in! But I've gained 3lbs since yesterday and it's made me panic! I definitely cannot afford to put more weight on. Is this to be expected?

B: Greek yoghurt
L: salad in olive oil, cheese spread, cheddar cheese
D: roasted veg and halloumi

Liquids: water and fizzy water.

Bryonyshcmyony · 03/08/2021 07:19

Don't weigh after one day!

Nobloat21 · 03/08/2021 07:25

It's such a leap of faith.

Bestbees · 03/08/2021 07:34

@Nobloat21 for many people everyday weighing is a bad idea, and you have seen why - things can fluctuate a lot. Perhaps you are really full with all the water? I seem to remember that on my first botcamp, then I kind of peed it all out!

I have woken up with a sore throat so not sure how my appetite will be today. Usually I find toast very soothing on with a sore throat!

Plan for today:
Breakfast eggs of some kind
Lunch salad with various bits from fridge (squid ring, olives maybe sardines)
Dinner pork chilli with green veg, Greek yog, cheese and avo.

Okaygreatthanks · 03/08/2021 07:39

I have just weighed myself and have put on 1.5 lbs since yesterday but based on past experience I am still rolling with it. I find the line downwards is a wobbly one, but it wobbles over time in the right direction, whereas in lockdown it was slowly wobbling upwards.

venusandmars · 03/08/2021 08:02

@nobloat21 don't panic, it takes a few days to settle into this way of eating, and the rate of loss will depend on what you were eating before, and how much you have to lose. I know it's a leap of faith, but it is a nice, tasty, non-hungry leap. Enjoy the journey.

B - avocado on shneiderbrot
L - going to see a friend but she is diabetic, her diet is much like ours, and she doesn't like to cook so it will be all favourite things from M&S - meats, salads, olives etc
D - left over moussaka with cabbage and broccoli
