Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh in (but ongoing chat thread)

Morning all!

Another wet and dreary day. What happened to summer?!

Anyway, for its final outing, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

It's not the end, of course - and I know many of you are keen to keep going until whenever the next Bootcamp starts. So post here for all the usual chat, banter, recipes, etc.

Agree that when you eat out you see the true extent of restaurants using cheap carb fillers.

A scant handful of leaves (rare that they're even dressed!) does not make up for 3/4 of a plateful of chips and a roll. I always end up having to have a starter on the side as well plus another side dish so it ends up really expensive! Plus the good old standby of steak is always £20++ for a non rump. Kerching!!

Stokey · 01/07/2021 21:36

Can I recommend this Rayu chilli oil as the must delicious condiment? Gorgeous on any kind of eggs, green veg, anything really. It is made with black beans but carbs are around 6g/100g & you only need a teaspoon full so reckon it's ok.

I've been breaking a bit this week, mainly with fruit, but I'm ok with it as am below my target weight. I just find summer fruit too delicious to resist. I've also been crazily busy at work so just trying to grab easy bits in between meetings - cherries, nuts & olives have been my go to.

FusionChefGeoff · 01/07/2021 22:55

I've ordered that sugar stuff beginning with E! Going to attempt a Keto / paleo chocolate cake at the weekend.

What do people put on top for icing though?? Can you make a cream cheese frosting with the E stuff??

StuntNun · 02/07/2021 07:01

@FusionChefGeoff I've used this frosting recipe and it was good.

Weighed this morning and half of the 7lb gain has gone despite a few glasses of rose and fish and chips one night.
My goal now is to lose 7lbs by the end of September. Just off to boil a couple of duck eggs to mash with butter.

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/07/2021 08:01

@Pleaseandthankyou that sounds delicious!

I had a sneaky weigh this morning and was delighted to see 12.9 (and a half). According to my fitness pal that's the least I've weighed since 2018, when I also did the Bootcamp (half heartedly, I never posted!) Interestingly looking back over my weight logging I put a steady stone and a bit on from 2017 - I started HRT in 2018. Friday is my lowest weight day. I have been drinking quite a bit at the weekend so I'm not drinking tonight or Saturday (despite the England match!).

The riding lessons I want to book start in 4 weeks. I'm very unlikely to get below 12 stone by then but I'm quite tempted to book anyway. If I'm 12 and a half stone I think I'll look OK. I'm tall so will need a bigger horse as it is. I tried my jodhpurs on yesterday (bought in the January sales in preperation) and they are too big!!

StuntNun · 02/07/2021 08:07

Well done @Bryonyshcmyony that's great progress. Have you tried any intermittent fasting? Adding in some 16:8 might help to get to that magic 12 stone milestone.

Well I only drink coffee with almond milk until about 11/12, so sort of?!
Mimosa1 · 02/07/2021 11:07

Hi everyone, I'm sneaking in quietly at the back, it having posted since the early days... but I'm in a space to get a bit healthier now. V inspired by everyone's losses.

FusionChefGeoff · 02/07/2021 11:51

@Bryonyshcmyony I used to think that until I actually started tracking it properly

Simple app is great!

@StuntNun thanks for the recipe - I'm stupidly excited about the challenge

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/07/2021 12:28

Coffee with some sort of plant milk is my line in the sand. I get up at 6.30 to tend to various animals and if I had to have herb tea I would cease to function and my life would be joyless. I cannot overestimate how much I look forward to my three mugs of coffee between 7 and 12.

FusionChefGeoff · 02/07/2021 17:23

Sorry I didn't explain very well - for me it was realising how late I actually ate (grazing snacks) and how much that affected my eating window the next day.

Yes I am keeping an eye. I know often eat before the rest of the family and they feel deprived of my amazing company, lol. But I do think that helps.

Today at 11ish: two fried eggs and two big rashers of bacon. Mayo.

5pm: 3 x large cheese slices rolled up with a slice of ham. Mayo

and I am very very full so doubt I'll eat anything else.

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/07/2021 17:33

I now often eat..

BestIsWest · 02/07/2021 19:51

It’s tea with me. Three cups minimum with sugar free almond milk then a coffee with cream. The Alpro no sugar almond milk has been a lifesaver this time round. In the past when I’ve given up on this WOE it has always been because of milk in my tea.

Andi2020 · 02/07/2021 19:56

Well I'm proud of myself got back down to size 14 in dress and trousers.
Got email early in week to say I could book restaurants and activities from 16th checked emails at 1 today and email came through at 11 to say it opened to bookings today it was so difficult to get times for pool and restaurants and by the time o done that and went to activities everything was booked out ( Centre parc Ireland)
Covid puts such stress on everything.
I have been to Center Parc in UK 3 times and could walk around any restaurant.
Can life just go back to normal.

FusionChefGeoff · 02/07/2021 22:43

@Bryonyshcmyony that's not much food and it's certainly not enough veg - careful or BIWI will get the Big Stick out

@BestIsWest agree! No sugar soya milk for me I hardly notice the difference now.

@Andi2020 great NSV but sounds a horribly stressful way to holiday. I agree the booking of everything in advance really does make everything such a ball ache. I promised DD and a friend a trip to soft play whilst their brothers are at a laser tag party and completely forgot I'd need to book. Luckily another mum reminded me just in time.

And don't get me started on trying to take DC swimming at the moment - it's like Fort Knox!! I've just given up - I can't face it at the moment.

L: coconut and lime prawns with salad, Mayo, avo and coriander
S: bit of bolognaise and leftover cabbage / courgette
D: ribs (no sauce), celeriac chips, hm coleslaw (white cabbage, red cabbage, radish, 1/2 a carrot)
S: mini dark choc bar

We're at friends tomorrow and she's doing curry so I'm bringing roasted cauliflower. I didn't go into massive detail - said no gluten / wheat, no rice, no potatoes, no sugar - so she's offered homemade GF naan.

I'm guessing that's GF flour that will be high carb?! But I think this is one of those occasions where I allow myself some flex so I'm not a pain!!!

Bryonyshcmyony · 03/07/2021 00:36

Yes I actually don't feel well at all 🙁 so haven't wanted much.

FusionChefGeoff · 03/07/2021 08:37

Oh no Sad. Hope you perk up over the weekend Thanks

Bryonyshcmyony · 03/07/2021 09:10

Woke up with a banging headache for the third day in a row. Annoying.

I'm at a sports thing most of the day tomorrow (watching dd not competing myself). Any ideas of picnic things I can take? I've ordered some of the low carb rolls but they haven't arrived yet.

Rayna37 · 03/07/2021 14:58

@Bryonyshcmyony low carb picnics not too difficult at all! Cold meats like cooked sausage, ham etc, cheese chunks or babybel, salads generally or just cherry toms, olives, cucumber, peppers. Hard boiled eggs or devilled eggs. Lots of fancier packaged meat/cheese/veg deli stuff from the supermarkets.

Rayna37 · 03/07/2021 15:07

Eating out can be tricky (especially when actively dieting rather than maintaining) partly as you tend to have to choose the least bad option rather than what you think that particular place would do well. I had a really disappointing steak and broccoli at a chain in the week (glad it was on expenses) but have been loving the low carb stuff at Leon. Some burger places do a great job of replacing buns and chips with lovely salad (Giraffe is good if I recall) but others, not so great!

Curry night tonight! One home made paneer one and some low carb onion bhajees from the freezer then a couple of M&S ones, with cauli rice.

Off next week mostly decorating but also planning to eat up some of the oldest stuff in the freezer, and also read the Rose Elliot low carb vegetarian book that arrived before my last holiday and sits unopened, judging me. Any recipe recommendations in there, anyone?!

Oneborneverydecade · 03/07/2021 15:39

More recently I feel like because I haven't been sticking to plan I don't have the headspace for this thread. But then often when I do look it's a relief because others are going through the same experiences as me. Eventually I'll learn!
Started my new housekeeping job and despite not enjoying housework I actually quite like it. It's unpressured, my colleagues are nice, the hours are convenient, I'm active and I can fast till 3pm. I think that so long as it's not a big chain @MrsKoala you'll like it.
I've made poor choices today but overall I think I'll be okay.
@venusandmars I often wish I had your attitude to this woe

Oneborneverydecade · 03/07/2021 15:41

We're also out tomorrow, celebrating IL's 40th wedding anniversary at a gastro pub. I'm planning on having a roast minus the roasties and carrots.
I love Leon @Rayna37 but have only had it a couple of times

FusionChefGeoff · 03/07/2021 16:26

@Bryonyshcmyony too late for today but the ground almond and cheese muffins are amazing for a picnic!
