Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh in (but ongoing chat thread)

Morning all!

Another wet and dreary day. What happened to summer?!

Anyway, for its final outing, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

It's not the end, of course - and I know many of you are keen to keep going until whenever the next Bootcamp starts. So post here for all the usual chat, banter, recipes, etc.

Unfortunately Wagamama’s is the only restaurant my children will all eat at so we end up there about twice a month. It is eye wateringly expensive for what it is and we spend about £100 for the 5 of us for what generally amounts to noodles for lunch Confused . We used to be able to do pizza express and I could have a salad and a starter but ds2 has stopped eating pizza now so apart from dough balls there is nothing he’ll eat - last time he had 2 portions of dough balls for lunch and was whining he was still hungry. It’s miserable eating with such restrictive diets and it always feels that my woe is just another thing I have to factor in on the mental load of ‘what will we eat when we go out’.

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 08:44

@MrsKoala mine are older and will happily go to other places but they really love Wagas. I might email them and ask if they've considered adding a low carb option Smile

MrsKoala · 01/07/2021 08:49

I’ve already done that a few times! I often get sent feedback links when we’ve had takeaway from there. I also desperately wanted to buy their Amai sauce when ds1 was going thru a horribly restrictive phase and I couldn’t get him to eat much, but they would let me know their supplier or let me buy a larger bottle from them. They suggested when I was in there I buy a couple of extra pots for £1 each. But considering ds1 needs 3 pots of it to tolerate noodles that would be very expensive.

Oh and the only other place they eat is McDonald’s and that’s even worse!!

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 08:51

I don't mind macdonalds I just peel the bun off!

BIWI · 01/07/2021 08:55

@MrsKoala

I do feel deprived at restaurants when there is nothing I can choose which will fill me up. Wagamama’s is particularly difficult, asking for no noodles or rice leaves you with £14 unsatisfying dinner and everyone else is enjoying their food and you are hangry.
But my point is, if you're in maintenance, this is fine! You can choose what you want/go off piste for that occasion.

Otherwise, if you're still in Bootcamp/weight loss mode, then probably better not to go to places like Wagamama, because you know there won't be anything suitable there.

@Bryonyshcmyony what is it you don't love about this WOE? Perhaps we can help you?

OP posts:
MrsKoala · 01/07/2021 08:59

It’s not very filling though. I prefer it with no bun because they are too sweet for me anyway but I just am left hungry all the time when I ask for the carb element to be removed. The meat/fish elements are so small when eating out.

Once we went to a gastropub and I ordered ds1 the sausage and chips with no chips and asked for bread instead. It cost about £8.50 and we got one sausage and a slice of (slathered with margarine which ds1 wouldn’t eat) cheap white bread on a huge plate. The kids plates were usually filled with chips so it wasn’t so noticeable. Ds1 was starving.

I miss toast and pasta. I like the no sugar aspect but I don't want to feel guilty if I have a bowl of skyr with berries and macadamia nuts. Also it's not working as quickly as I would like. I'd have hoped as it's such a change from my usual diet of toast and Marmite and pasta that I'd be shedding more weight! Fine to slow down eventually but not to lose 6lbs in the first 10 days then a pound in four weeks.

MrsKoala · 01/07/2021 09:02

Yes Biwi, I had the miso cod and charcoal noodles on Sunday as one of my maintenance off piste meals. But when in weight loss mode it’s not a good place to go even if I have to because of the lack of any other options.

BIWI · 01/07/2021 09:23

@Bryonyshcmyony

I miss toast and pasta

I get that. But it's not forever, and you can have them in moderation when you've reached your goal! In the meantime, you can have toast - check out^ this website

Why should feel guilty about that? Now that you've finished your first two weeks of Bootcamp, that would be allowed! (Although Greek yoghurt would be better as Skyr is 0% fat)

As I've reminded you more than once, weeks 3 & 4 are infamous for little or no weight loss.

You have still lost half a stone!

From week 5, the scales will start to move again for you. As long as you stick to the rules, of course Wink

Thanks @biwi! Much appreciated! The skyr is new!! It's full fat and 3. Something carbs ill photo it when back home

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 10:36

New 5% fat Skyr 3.9 carbs!

BIWI · 01/07/2021 10:57

Hurrah for someone bringing out something other than 0% fat!

(However, you'd be better off with Greek yoghurt that's 10% fat. All the major supermarkets carry one under their premium brands.)

I'm part Scandinavian so skyr is my comfort food Grin

Skyr with fat in it - I'll need to try it even if it is only 5% rather than good Greek yoghurt's10% fat. There is something wonderful and rich about it - not sure if it's the fact that it's also high in protein.

Andi2020 · 01/07/2021 11:46

I have the odd bit more carb like a slice toast an odd time or carrots or apple and don't feel guilty had a wee go on scales this morning and still in my 145.2 so happy enough if I can stay under 150.
Just not getting as many steps with work busier.

prettybird · 01/07/2021 12:00

Starting to take shape....Smile

....Although bath and loo were only in the room temporarily in order to work out the various boxing-ins. It did help us decide to change part of the plan and the green tiles that were already planned for in the shower are now also going to be behind the basin and the bath (they were going to be white).

Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh in (but ongoing chat thread)
FusionChefGeoff · 01/07/2021 12:42

@prettybird I love the way the light comes in over the bath in that position. It's going to look gorgeous and I can already predict some pretty serious bathroom envy coming...

@Bryonyshcmyony I remember being exactly where you are at 4-6 weeks then suddenly I started losing much more steady, visible weight and it was worth hanging in there for I promise!!

Water water water don't forget.

Gorgeous halloumi, asparagus and veg salad for lunch.

Got a nice lot of leftovers (bolognaise, creamy chorizo chicken, pizza) so chucking some JPs in for kids and probably some cabbage and roasted radishes for me for dinner.

Definitely feeling better now.

Could this all have been triggered by resetting my sugar tastebuds on my day off 2 weeks ago?!

StuntNun · 01/07/2021 12:59

My new favourite food is salt and vinegar pecans.

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 13:18

@FusionChefGeoff I think I am insanely affected by sugar! I do feel more on an even keel since ditching it.

I just had the other half of the aubergine/feta/chorizo thing. I had it cold, but roasted some radishes in the oil left behind. Delicious. Then two big tablespoons of skyr with raspberries and a coffee with almond milk and a splash of cream. I'm finding skipping breakfast really easy as long as I can have a couple of almond milk coffees. I'm just not hungry in the morning.

MrsKoala · 01/07/2021 15:29

Aaargh just had another shit disappointing lunch where I left starving. Went to a lovely country pub, I had 3 small plates which they recommend is enough for 1 person. It wasn’t. I had 2 thumb size lamb koftas and tzatziki for £6. 5 halloumi fries for £6 and a salad for £5. H had a burger and chunky hand cut chips for £15 his plate was huge and filled with food. I ended up eating a load of his chips I was so hungry. 😡

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/07/2021 18:49

Eating out is a PITA @MrsKoala. I am avoiding it as much as possible.

So today I've had the aubergine/feta/chorizo with roast radishes
skyr and berries

chunk of cheese with this amazing stuff

two fat sausages with purple sprouting broccoli and more of the above mayo

feel absolutely stuffed but will probably have a decaff coffee with almond milk and a splash of cream later.

drank 2l water

they look divine
cheeseisthebest · 01/07/2021 19:03

When eating out I've had burger with no bun and salad instead of chips. Its not great option. They all do vegan and gluten free wish more places did low carb!
