Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

Today -
B - mushrooms fried in lurpack and garlic with scrambled eggs (just with butter no milk) and bacon

(I think this is ok?)

Is lurpack spreadable ok or do I need ‘proper butter’?

OverweightPidgeon · 14/03/2021 12:06

Yes my dd got it for me for Mother’s Day. The sandwiches were delicious .............
And the brownies.....................

Oh and the scotch egg 🤦‍♀️
Grin Grin

LongtimelurkerL · 14/03/2021 12:08

Sounds amazing - and a scotch egg is ‘fine’ without the breadcrumbs right?Grin

nowlook · 14/03/2021 12:10

I don't envy those of you with caring, carby kids Grin

My two are still asleep Hmm, so I'll have to wait for the Jo Malone and Space NK goodies that I ordered and DH wrapped 🤷‍♀️

Midlifemission · 14/03/2021 12:30

Just a quick check in - happy Mother's Day all round, I am loving all the stories.
@ListenLinda I got Lindt balls too but my DC will enjoy 'sharing' them with me so I don't imagine they will be around to taunt me for long.
I got homemade cards and some daffodils cut from the garden this morning and that's enough to make my heart happy.
The self gifted perfume was a bonus.

We had boiled eggs and crispy bacon soldiers for breakfast - but I decided I didn't want to risk eating it in bed.

@pinkpinkeverywhere belatedly I must tell you you are a genius and I was hopping off the Renpho scales too fast to get all the data ! I was one 1lb down yesterday when I weighed after STS this week - really hope it sticks for tomorrow.

ShagMeRiggins · 14/03/2021 12:56

LongtimeLurkerL I’d go with proper butter, salted actually.

We keep ours out in a butter dish so spreadability isn’t an issue. Sometimes in summer we have to pop it into the fridge, but rarely.

Oh, and welcome.

I’ve finally caught up with the thread and of course have to dash before I can reply.

Still sorting the style email, will let y’all know when it’s been sent. And WATER!!!

Hopeislost · 14/03/2021 12:58

Happy Mother's Day! Some lovely presents here! Thankfully DH knows the drill so I was brought a card and a coffee at 10:30 after an epic lie-in! And he's currently making lunch, I have spotted smoked salmon in the fridge so presumably that and some kind of eggs!

prettybird · 14/03/2021 13:23

For those that liked my Ortak earrings yesterday, this link came up on my Facebook today Grin https://www.ortak.co.uk/collections/enamel

ZiggZagg · 14/03/2021 13:30

I've been really disappointed by DH and the children today, not so much as a card, no lie in, no breakfast in bedSad

I won't blame DS as he's only 3 and has told me all day that he just loves me and I'm so beautiful 😻 he's my favourite 🤣

On the bright side, my gorgeous sister and nieces sent me these which I cried a little at because they are so beautiful and thoughtful!

@Ninkanink

Jumped right in without saying good morning...

Good morning everyone!🌷

We’ve never done Mother’s Day in my family and since I don’t watch television anymore I haven’t seen any ads so I didn’t even realise it was today until I came on to this thread! But happy Mother’s Day to all of you 💐 and I’m glad there have been lovely, thoughtful gifts for so many of you.

I haven't watched TV for years, but I would be in deep water if I missed Mother's Day... Grin.

Not that I would, I luvs my mother.

@StuntNun, I could do with a bit of information - I seem to have fallen into a one-meal-a-day appetite pattern, and I'm sure I saw you say somewhere that that wasn't ideal for weight loss. What's the thinking on this?

Dailyhandtowelwash · 14/03/2021 13:39

Isn’t that lovely?

Sorry though that you’re feeling upset at your DH. I would be too. Have you mentioned it to him?

My greatest tribute today has been my fiercely competitive 5 year old letting me go first in a card game ‘even though the youngest should go first, because it’s your Mother’s Day’. So your 3 year old’s love is very important indeed.

cheeseisthebest · 14/03/2021 13:56

Beautiful flowers Ziggzagg. Hope they make up for it later xx

prettybird · 14/03/2021 13:56

Today's earrings: wee sapphire and diamond ones. They were my mum's. Not sure if Dad gave them to her or if she inherited them from her mum. I'll ask Dad when we go over (we're going over shortly to watch the Scotland-Ireland game with him and then have supper).

cheeseisthebest · 14/03/2021 13:58

@ShagMeRiggins am I too late for the style session? It's my own fault if I am!

cheeseisthebest · 14/03/2021 13:59

I always have spreadable lurpak, hadnt really thought about it. @BIWI is it ok?

Oneborneverydecade · 14/03/2021 14:37

Happy mothers day everyone
DH ordered me the SLC hot cross buns but they arrive tomorrow. I did receive a little wooden tree decoration and some room spray. Nothing yet from the teen.

L: homemade mushroom soup with some blue cheese and ham on the side
D: steak and flgv

It's a mixed bag today because its also my DSDad's birthday and my ex DH's birthday. He passed away just before his birthday last year. It's hard to know what to do for the best for DS1.

@LongtimelurkerL there's more details in the first thread of this bootcamp. The rules etc

EarlGreyHot · 14/03/2021 14:57

Happy Mother's day to all! Some lovely treats and Flowers to those who are feeling a bit fed up or sad today.

My DC are quite little still (9, 6 and 2) so there's been lovely handmade cards (and a bottle of gin), delighted! Breakfast in bed is a family affair but whilst there were croissants for the DC, DH brought me some strawberries, greek yoghurt and cream and a pot of coffee. Gold star for him Grin
We're just home from a big walk in a wetlands park and cooked sausages on a camp stove in the car boot - felt like a wee adventure! Lighting the fire and then Indian takeaway for dinner later so fairly easy to make good lc choices there. May have a few Wine

StuntNun · 14/03/2021 15:02

Ooh those Ortak pieces are beautiful, Prettybird.

Athelstane the reason OMAD (one meal a day) doesn't always work for weight loss is because it's difficult to eat enough calories in a single meal to maintain your metabolism. One way around this is to alternate your meal between lunch time and dinner time each day so that instead of perpetual 24-hour fasts you're alternating 16 and 32-hour fasts. Even if your calorie intake remains identical the theory is that the different fasting lengths keeps your metabolism going. It's very much a "suck it and see" situation though as some people do manage to lose weight consistently on OMAD. For most people it will work for the first few weeks, even months, and then weight loss slows or stops.

FusionChefGeoff · 14/03/2021 15:02

Morning all! I've had a lie in and a run with the kids on their bikes it was great fun!

DH is trying very hard - he managed to ignore my very very specific and not at all subtle hint "DH can you get the kids to get me a plant please" and instead I have 2 books despite not having picked up a book for several months of not years Hmm

On the other hand and this massively outweighs that, he hasn't let me lift a finger all day. He NEVER cooks but thanks to the recipe thread I have slow cooked gammon, cauli and leek cheese, baked swede mash and cabbage later!!!!

Had asparagus dripping in butter and EVOO dunked in not quite soft Sad boiled eggs for lunch with some smoked salmon and Mayo on the side as I was starving. Absolute luxury

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/03/2021 15:04

We made it to the beach ( stay local , 5 mile guide line ) it’s further than 5 miles , but it’s the nearest one
Not quite beach weather 🌞 but nice to get out !
Went for a run , did about 3 k in total , some walking though
Food is going to be as near Bootcamp as possible , and I’ll deal with the consequences tomorrow
No chocolates, bouquet from DS , hydrangea form DD and a potted pineapple plant from DH ( he didn’t want to left out of present giving ! )

Happy Mother’s Day , and I’ll raise a toast to all of us whose mothers aren’t around any longer

Happy Mother’s Day Flowers

My DH made a lovely low carb breakfast, and has bought steak and the makings for a lovely cream sauce for dinner, with a baked Camembert for starters and a strawberries for desert - so lots of calories but all low carb friendly. Will have lots of green veg too.

Lazy day for me so far, which is rare and welcome.

Ah, ok, I've fallen into that low-calorie error before. So keep the body guessing then, on days hunger is low. thank you Flowers

@LongtimelurkerL

Can I please join? I’m 174 pounds at 5ft 11 and I’d really like to get down to 154 before my birthday which is end of May. Does that seem doable? Any tips for a first timer (ive read the beautiful spreadsheet but can’t see anything written down about the first two weeks I don’t think)
Welcome @LongtimelurkerL!

If you look at the tabs on the spreadsheet you'll find Bootcamp rules - that should tell you everything you need to know.

The other thing you could do is read this thread which is from week one, where I outline a lot of the dos and don'ts.

As you're already within the healthy weight range, you will find that you don't lose at the same rate as someone with a lot to lose - so it's difficult to say if you'll manage 20 lbs by the end of May. However, you should lose enough and as PP have said, you should also be feeling a lot better for this WOE anyway!

BTW Lurpak Spreadable is a mixture of Lurpak and rapeseed oil, so nothing really too bad. But personally I prefer the block Lurpak. Like Shag, we have a butter dish that we keep ours in, so it's always spreadable.

Thanks to all whose days are unrepresentative of their mothering!

After ordering my own gift in true MN martyrdom style, DS1 surprised me with an "enigmagram". 11 verbal and numerical reasoning puzzles to unlock a photo and video message online from from he and DS1 saying happy Mother's Day. Right up my street (and of course organised by DH).

Would recommend for all those who would generally enjoy an escape room. Took about half an hour because I got a clue wrong

In other news, I bought mum a lovely linen outfit directly from a Lithuanian company on Etsy (a MN recommendation, but not directly aimed at me). It took a while to get here thanks Brexit, but was fab. They take measurements, so it's tailored.

And finally, I've had one small glass of Merlot, my first of 2021. It tastes like port and I'm slightly discombobulated Grin
