Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

DH has done well. A trip to the garden centre for Mother's Day presents yielded some pretty plants AND this keto cookbook. It's a bit American but I'm horrified to learn that frying with EVOO is very bad for you in the first few pages, so it's already paid for itself, and I've ordered some rapeseed oil. I vaguely knew that olive oil had a low smoke point but never took action before! There are a few recipes on this that look lovely, especially a cauliflower "potato" salad that I am trying later, so I will report back!

Morning everyone, happy Mothers Day!

After being spoiled with non-LC stuff on my birthday 2 weeks ago I'm hoping that I've been bought nothing off-plan. I think they all understand that I'm so happy to be losing weight that I don't want to jeopardise it for a treat. But I'll have to wait until the teenagers emerge to find out!

Well done @BIWI on the run, we did run 3 of week 6 yesterday which was a whole 25 mins running, never thought I'd manage it but I did and from now on there are no walking rests which makes me nervous. I listen to Sarah Milican (mainly as I'd hoped she'd say I could have some cake after my run) and she told me yesterday I could now call myself a runner Grin. I'm finding it so much easier now some weight has gone and like to think about how much less pressure there is on my joints, as someone on here said it's 4x the amount you have lost, so for me that's 88lbs! No wonder it's easier!

Well done @ditavonteesed, 6 inches off your waist is incredible.

That’s actually not true, tbf.

It’s fine to fry with EVOO and I do it all the time - the science on which that claimis based is pretty sketchy as far as I understand it.

Ninkanink · 14/03/2021 09:03

Or more accurately I should say, the science might be good but it has been misinterpreted wildly (as most things with food have been).

MrsOmelette · 14/03/2021 09:21

Lovely day here - got handmade cards from children and they’d all bought me books. 🥰
Food today: B - 90second keto bread toasted with butter & marmite, L - egg salad, D - chilli-cheese-burgers salad and an amazing looking lemon cheesecake that’s chilling in the fridge. A happy (if calorific) low carb day.

Ninkanink · 14/03/2021 09:32

Jumped right in without saying good morning...

Good morning everyone!🌷

We’ve never done Mother’s Day in my family and since I don’t watch television anymore I haven’t seen any ads so I didn’t even realise it was today until I came on to this thread! But happy Mother’s Day to all of you 💐 and I’m glad there have been lovely, thoughtful gifts for so many of you.

prettybird · 14/03/2021 09:35

Dh has just brought me fried egg and bacon in bed, along with a glass of a lovely pink South African bubbly Smile And a card.

Not expecting anything from ds:,he's a) up in Aberdeen so would have had to get organised in advance to send me something Hmm and b) he says that Mother's Day is now just a commercial construct he's right but still.... Wink

ZiggZagg · 14/03/2021 09:35

Good morning everyone, I'm checking in today with a 3lb weight loss this week!

I have a bottle of Prosecco on chill for later with my lovely mum and she has informed me that she got me a "little" pornstar martini cheesecake. It is literally the only thing I cannot resist Blush

But will be straight back on it from tomorrow. I am just accepting this week that my weight loss will stall or slow and I'm ok with that!

Happy Mother's Day to all, hope you have a lovely, relaxing day Grin

Jollyholibobs · 14/03/2021 09:36

DS sent bloom and wild flowers which arrived on Friday. DD did a gift bag with magazines, daffodils, good coffee beans from her favourite shop, a home made bath bomb and two pairs of running socks. DH commented that it was like a Christmas stocking. All very thoughtful and so nice to have seen her briefly.

@RagzReturnsRebooted I have been reminded by @venusandmars that when my appendix ruptured I thought it was intense period pain. Hope there is nothing serious going on for you.

cheeseisthebest · 14/03/2021 09:46

Happy Mothers day to you all!
Venusandmars thank you for dress comments. I'm definitely taking the grey one back.
Have just weighed and I'm 9st 13. So happy to be below 10.

cheeseisthebest · 14/03/2021 09:47

I'm very short, always want to mention that!!

Bestbees · 14/03/2021 09:53

Well done @cheeseisthebest!!

Necklace from the kids here (helped by dh!) eggs and bacon in bed and now off for a walk. Have a good day everyone.

Can I please join? I’m 174 pounds at 5ft 11 and I’d really like to get down to 154 before my birthday which is end of May. Does that seem doable? Any tips for a first timer (ive read the beautiful spreadsheet but can’t see anything written down about the first two weeks I don’t think)

Dailyhandtowelwash · 14/03/2021 10:54

@LongtimelurkerL welcome. Someone more experienced at boot camp will be along to explain it all but the first two weeks are stricter with no nuts, berries (or any other fruit), alcohol, chocolate etc. Although there’s not a lot of any of them after that either!

I’ve been given lovely cards, some jewellery made by my 7 year old at school, a pot of flowers and some very colourful macarons, which I shall share around the family later. And bacon and eggs in bed. My lot are all under 10 and so excited about it, which was the best bit. They had drawn me up a menu for breakfast in bed including options like ‘lesarnya’ and ‘shepeds pie’.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 14/03/2021 10:55

And well done to our losers! Both in weight and inches.

Welcome! I don't know whether a 20lb loss by May is achievable on bootcamp, given you're already a healthy weight for your height. But what I do know is that you will lose weight and inches and feel lots of other benefits from this way of eating. Better skin, nails, pmt symptoms. This isn't a crash diet, although you might have a significant loss in the first two weeks.

Put it this way: you'll definitely be closer to the 20lb goal by May if you join us!

Happy Mothering Sunday one and all!

LongtimelurkerL · 14/03/2021 11:30

Thanks @nowlook and @Dailyhandtowelwash - I might be in the healthy bmi range but I’m certainly not healthy and have gained loads of weight on my tummy since having my daughter!

LongtimelurkerL · 14/03/2021 11:30

Happy Mother’s Day all - presents sound good!

prettybird · 14/03/2021 11:37

Welcome LongtimelurkerL Thanks

If you're already within a healthy BMI, you might find it takes longer to lose weight so you might not achieve 20lbs by May (for those with more to lose, it's eminently achievable Smile) BUT make sure to take your measurements and I guarantee that you will see your shape change as you lose the unhealthy visceral fat Grin

Mimosa1 · 14/03/2021 11:39

That's fascinating @Ninkanink - and a bit of a relief as I've been doing it for years. Still, I suppose a bit of oil based variety won't be bad...

OverweightPidgeon · 14/03/2021 11:53

Ninkanink · 14/03/2021 12:00

Oh it’s so lovely! I’d have a little bit tbh.

cheeseisthebest · 14/03/2021 12:01

Oh no! Is that your Mothers Day present?!

LongtimelurkerL · 14/03/2021 12:02

Thanks @prettybird tbh shape would be more important than actual numbers on the scales - I have lots of lovely clothes I want to fit in for the summer! Will do measurements later - thanks.

What a lovely present @OverweightPidgeon
