Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

Cheeseisthebest if I don't get enough electrolytes then I wake up in the night needing to pee and feeling thirsty. Clearly these two events shouldn't happen at the same time unless there's something wrong! (Although downing a lot of water in one go would produce the same result since you can't absorb it very quickly - it's much better to sip water all day if possible.)

StuntNun · 14/02/2021 13:52

Also bear in mind that RDAs are calculated as the minimum amount to prevent disease as a result of deficiency, not necessarily the amount needed for good health.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 14/02/2021 13:54

Wierd angle on the photo, but this is my McDonald's reassembled in a low carb bun. 3 patties, 4 cheese slices, gherkins, onion, lettuce and a little bit of mayo and ketchup.
As a rare event, I don't think this is too bad. It tastes good and felt like a treat, which given my horrific period pain (woke me up with pain and flooding at 5am) and the fact I'm dosed up on ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine and still suffering, I deserve it!
Period is worse this month than it has been for ages, wonder if that's the result of transition to low carb.

@cheeseisthebest

Just checked my vits and all over 100% RDA except magnesium which is 27% so maybe I do need some! Couldnt see any potassium in there either.
But as I posted up thread, the RDA is pretty meaningless! They're such small quantities.

I'm still concerned, though, that something else is wrong with you - have you considered taking a covid test yet?

Hi BIWI. No cos today the fatigue has totally gone! The urge to sleep that I had yesterday has disappeared completely! So going to see how I am tomorrow. Grin

Looks great!!

Sorry you’re suffering! Flowers

I’d be surprised if it’s the low carb that’s causing your extra nasty period although the higher volume of blood could be tied into that hormonal surge that some women get when they first low carb. I find that my period pains and cramps disappear altogether when I consistently low carb and I’ve heard the same from many other women. Hopefully by next month you’ll see a great improvement on that front.

Bestbees · 14/02/2021 14:38

@Lyrata and @Oneborneverydecade think I might do cheese rather than dairy totally for lent. Think the snacking on cheese is the problem rather than the cream in my meals.

I feel very hungover today. Managed a spoonful of peanut butter and then made an egg mayo salad which I managed half of before feeling sick. Lots of herbal teas and an early night for me!

catwithflowers · 14/02/2021 14:55

For all those craving pizza ...... I made a low-carb pizza to a different recipe yesterday and it was lovely. I've made cauli based pizza before and was never very keen but this one was really tasty. I got the recipe from Mumsnet, I think it's a pretty generic keto pizza base but thanks anyway to whoever posted it on one of the low carb threads 😉

Pizza is one of my favourite foods!! This recipe made a huge pizza so i had a few slices for dinner last night, one for lunch with a creamy coleslaw and the rest will be for dinner tomorrow!

Where did you get the recipe, @catwithflowers? Can you post it here, please? I've never had much joy using cauliflower as a base so would be interested!

Of course, BIWI. I thought it was from one of the low carb threads but have just checked and it was originally posted on the Daibetes UK forum.

@AthelstaneTheUnready
Bless you! For braving the wind and Gale and absolutely freezing weather to help others especially when it’s thankless

@LittleMy77 sorry to hear about the chocs from DJ. So annoying when people ignore what you’re telling them and insist on “treating you” my DS bless him is constantly trying to get me to taste his “yummy sandwich” or “pizza slice” or cookie grrr

@RagzReturnsRebooted that burger looks delish!!

@catwithflowers Your pizza looks so good. Ive got food envy now. I love a pizza too but like @BIWI have not really enjoyed the cauli base ones.

After getting jelly over everyone's Valentine's Day meals decided to get an M&S meal for 2. Lamb shanks with cauli cheese. Will do some green veg on the side. Have managed to resist alcohol and all sweet stuff so far so tonight will be treating myself to a half glass of wine and a spoonfull of hubby's choc pudding.
Lunch was large salad with pork belly and chicken wings
Loving my new ninja foodie. Made the perfect pork belly

*Diabetes 🙈

catwithflowers · 14/02/2021 15:55

I think the pizza base tastes more like a scone based pizza rather than bread but it was still very tasty and importantly, not eggy. I made the mistake of using a mozzarella ball for the topping but it let out too much water. Grated mozzarella or another grated cheese would have been better 🙂

prettybird · 14/02/2021 15:58

I think I've made that pizza base in the past: you need to buy the old fashioned cheaper block mozzarella (all that you used to be able to buy unless you went to a posh deli Wink old gimmer me Grin) and then grate it yourself. The pre-grated stuff often has flour or starch to stop it clumping.

StuntNun · 14/02/2021 15:59

DH got me a week's worth of carbs chocolates for Valentines Day and I have made the mistake of opening them and have eaten four already. Blush AIBU to leave them where my teenagers can find them?

catwithflowers · 14/02/2021 16:06

Oh that's interesting prettybird. I remember the rubbery block mozzarella too 😂. I wonder where you can get it now? Do the supermarkets still sell it?

catwithflowers · 14/02/2021 16:10

Found this information about the grated mozzarella from Lidl.

You can get it in Sainsbury's. I think Lidl only has the pre-grated stuff (with anti-clump starches). That's why I haven't made it that often, as I have to remember to buy it specially on those occasions I do go to Sainsbury's. Tesco probably has it too.
BustleInYourHedgerow · 14/02/2021 17:24

Ah thanks Ninkanink.

Ragz I'm the same. Flooding etc which is very rare for me. Cramps are the norm.

Prettybird thanks for the heads up, i have been eating some mozzarella and grted cheddar like a DOOFUS. Probably a negiliable amount but still annoyed, I knew this but forgot.

Not really looking forward to weighing tomorrow with period situation but will do it and not get down if it's a gain.

Oneborneverydecade · 14/02/2021 17:37

Is that the fat head pizza? I had it last night too. DH made it with mozzarella I bought in Waitrose. It's really good

I think I have keto itch. I've had an itchy back for over a month. The weird thing is Diet Doctor suggests it's to do with sweat and ketosis. I'm not sure I'm in ketosis (except when fasting?) and I don't exercise sweat
It's annoying but nothing I can't ignore

Oneborneverydecade · 14/02/2021 17:39

Off topic slightly but I'm trying period pants for the first time this month. Does anyone else use them and could recommend some for a heavy flow?

BIWI · 14/02/2021 17:41

@Oneborneverydecade if you have keto itch it's a sign, really, that your carbs are a bit too low, so try upping them a bit and see if that helps you

I wanted some but all the ones I've looked at say they are designed to be used with sanpro, which kind of defeats the object. Maybe they just say that... I'd like to get DD some. Would be good for sleeping in.

No idea what to do for dinner, I'm not hungry but I have taken a lot of painkillers! Not that they are working. Should at least make food for the family though, nothing big needed as the McDonald's was well over half of everyone's calorie requirements!

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 14/02/2021 17:53

@Oneborneverydecade WUKA are brilliant, as are Modibodi. Both definitely cope with heavy flow (they do heavy/medium/light options).

Doing my Tesco shop, clearly including pizza now! I’m struggling with lunches, anyone want to throw quick and easy options at me, that involve neither eggs nor salad?

cheeseisthebest · 14/02/2021 17:56

My favourite lunch is still frying off courgette, leek, spinach, bacon then mixing with cream or creme fraiche, maybe some mustard and possibly parmesan on top. I did also mix it with boursin instead of cream. It's so delicious. You can cooked chicken instead of bacon.
