Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

@StuntNun Yay, are you converted to celeriac now?! Good call on the jalapeños, I was wondering what else I could put on the fries and I have those in the cupboard. Maybe chopped spring onions would go well too.

Dinner was meatballs again, but didn't have any cream cheese so I used cream and cheese instead! Was lovely. Broccoli and courgette on the side.

No Valentines meal here, we don't do Valentines day. Did just have a zoom bingo session with SIL... I like actual bingo as I like winning, but had to buy prizes for this so just bought sweets and chocolates for the kids and I didn't play. Was going to have a vodka soda but never got round to it. Haven't had a drink for a fortnight now...

Just realised I won't be weighing Monday as I weigh at work and I've got half a week off, so will weigh Thursday afternoon instead. Last time I checked I was another half kilo down though. Last time I low carbed I weighed daily (in lbs) and had a lovely graph on my phone, but having put all the weight back on since I am keeping my mindset positive by weighing at work in kilos, because I don't have the same emotional attachment to my weight in kilos so won't be discouraged by comparing my weight to before. It makes sense to me...

nowlook · 13/02/2021 21:19

I'd order the electrolytes then cheese. Hope you're on the mend soon Thanks

RagzReturnsRebooted · 13/02/2021 21:24

Oh and we're having McDonald's tomorrow as a half term treat and we'll be near one as I'm picking something up. Can I have burger without the bun or are all the extras too carby? You can pick and choose now and order with the app before going to the drive through, so I can customise as much as I like. I reckon the burger patties, bacon and cheese will be okay but are there any hidden carbs in the other toppings that I should be aware of? Pickles, onion, mustard?
I could even take a low carb bun and actually eat it as a burger, though I have eaten it on its own with a knife and fork in the past. I'm not a huge McDonald's fan really so happy to give it all a miss, but would be nice to join in (and not have to cook!).

cheeseisthebest · 13/02/2021 21:25

I think I will. It's not going to do any harm is it.

Ninkanink · 13/02/2021 21:26

I’d go ahead and have all the toppings. There’ll be a bit of sugar in the ketchup but it’s negligible if it’s just a little bit.

Ninkanink · 13/02/2021 21:44

@cheeseisthebest hope you feel better soon! Flowers

@RagzReturnsRebooted you could do a nachos version with some chilli (I use the leftovers from a chilli meal), jalapeños, cheese, topped with spring onion, coriander, avocado/guacamole, and a salsa or pico de gallo.

nowlook · 13/02/2021 21:58

And in Valentines news, DS1 (14) has decided he desperately needs to send a girl in his form a card "because she's in hospital". He says he doesn't know why she's in hospital or which hospital. He doesn't want to send the card to the hospital, but rather her home. He doesn't want a "get well soon" card, but a little teddy bear number from the card drawer. Oh, and it must arrive tomorrow. HmmGrin

This is very cute!!
ChristMyArse · 13/02/2021 22:10

We aren't doing much here for Valentine's this year. Bloody fucking united are playing tomorrow afternoon which means there will be..

"The run up"
This can not be missed.
"THE MATCH
This can not be missed.
"After match commentary & analysis"
This can not be missed.

Thinking of making myself the choc mousse up thread and enjoying my afternoon that way.

I do grumble but he really does love his football.. I don't get it personally 😁

cheeseisthebest · 13/02/2021 22:20

Thank you! Dont feel ill just so tired!
That's so sweet nowlook!

ChristMyArse · 13/02/2021 22:25

@ouchmyfeet did you work out roughly how many carbs are in that mousse?

Contemplating how much I could get away with portion wise. Also runs from the Big Stick

ouchmyfeet · 13/02/2021 23:44

With the chocolate I used it came out as 80g for the whole lot. We got 5 portions out of it (using the little gu ramekins), so 16g each. Like I said, definitely a rare treat!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 13/02/2021 23:52

@cheeseisthebest

I've been having evening naps again this week! Though it is TOTM so that may be it for me. Or, I'm not getting enough sleep during the week and have stopped using carbs as a crutch for quick energy.
BustleInYourHedgerow · 14/02/2021 01:10

Food today:

B: avocado with cheesy Scrambled eggs
D: Leftover chicken curry with cauli rice.

2 cups of tea with cream

I didn't enjoy the cauli rice. Didn't like the texture. Feeling crap today have the mother of all periods and feel queasy so couldn't face a third meal.

Ninkanink · 14/02/2021 01:29

Sorry you’re having a rough time!

I don’t really like cauliflower rice either.

MarmaladeTeepee · 14/02/2021 06:14

nowlook that is very sweet and very teenagerish to announce something the night before it needs to happen!

I hope you're feeling better soon cheese and the electrolytes do the trick. Daft question but have you thought about being tested for covid? You might be one of the mostly asymptomatic people?

Ragz I've had burgerless buns in the past from McDs, they're very sorry looking things served on a bed of wilted iceberg. I would swerve all the sauces and take my own mayo with me! Or if that's not possible I think their sour cream dip is lower in carbs. I think to bulk mine out and make it more of a proper meal I ordered one of their salads to go with it and then had the burgers on that with a load of mayo, or you could take some olive oil with you and slather the salad in that?). So basically fill your glovebox with condiments before you go would be my suggestion!

Bestbees · 14/02/2021 07:36

Morning all. Happy Valentines to all who celebrate it.

@nowlook how sweet! That's the sort of thing I love about working with teenagers. They are often so stubborn and passionate.

@cheeseisthebest and @BustleInYourHedgerow hope today sees you feeling better.
@RagzReturnsRebooted I would do as suggested and get salad plus burger less bun, though to be honest I would possibly rather cook than eat McDonald's, it's always.disappointing to me.

@ouchmyfeet we also had the mousse and it was lovely. I halved the recipe which should have served 2-3 but split it into four small portions and froze two. Hubby though portion was a bit small but was perfect for me.

@SilverStarburst honestly doesn't seem like a lot of food to me. I had homemade slaw yesterday on my salad and hav 2 serving spoons, plus mackerel, bit of cheese and a boiled egg. Try upping a touch.

Yesterday food
B creamy coffee
L massive salad with ma kernel mayo, slaw, goats chess, olives, boiled egg and oil to dress. Kept me going for hours

D-valentines blow out: haloumi with caper mustard dressing, rib eye with celeriac dauphiose and brocoli, chocolate mousse, cheese and half a bottle of sparkling and a couple of brandys. I was stuffed but it was lovely. Husband and I preferred the celeriac dauphiose to potato so that's a win.

However got on the scales this morning and I am 3.5lb up!!! Do have my period too which probably doesn't help.

Lent is on the horizon so thinking of giving up the booze for it. I have hardly drunk this year except for last night. I will def do no sugar, which is only dark choc really. Considering cheese too, but don't want to be miserable! Giving up snacking would probably be most sensible. Anyone else want to do a lent challenge? You can have the thing on a Sunday.

Plan for today. Wait till I am hungry. Might be a long time! Will break the fast probably with boiled egg/mayo in lettuce leaf wraps.

Dinner is bbq brisket, done long and slow by dh on the bbq with smoking chips, salad slaw.

Sorry for the mega post!

ListenLinda · 14/02/2021 07:55

Morning all. Just caught up, your menus all look so yummy!
We’re not doing anything this year, in the middle of redecorating and we almost had a huge row last night Grin
@ChristMyArse Leeds or Manchester? United for us today too, DH has an hour from coming home from work to match starting, so I bet he doesnt even bother starting painting again, as you know, football rules all. Then I might have to sock him with a paintbrush!

Debating what to get out for tea.... freezer full so can’t justify another takeaway Sad

ChristMyArse · 14/02/2021 08:17

@ListenLinda Manchester!

He listens to a you tube channel that is run by a very annoyed and irate little man, often whilst cooking. There is no getting away from it Grin

Hmmm not sure what to do about the choc pud. Do I don't I? Argh!

SilverStarburst · 14/02/2021 08:22

I tried Barenaked Rice with a curry the other day, I didn't enjoy the weird texture at all and gave me terrible wind. I have a packet of the noodles and a packet of rice going spare - first bootcampers to pm me with a preference of either rice or noodles, I will put them in the post.

ListenLinda · 14/02/2021 08:40

@ChristMyArse ahh, we are Leeds in this house. Kids TV all morning and then bloody football all afternoon today.

Having a creamy coffee then going to smash the water today. Weighed this morning and i’m a lb up. Been really good with food but water has slipped a bit last few days.
Could also be the after effects of my period the week before, as I managed a small loss. Or it could just be week 4 occurings and might just whoosh next week!
Saw my mum today, she said she could tell it’s working! Grin she is also doing LCHF following a plan she found on the internet so it’s nice to have a RL buddy alongside you lovely lot Smile

ListenLinda · 14/02/2021 08:42

Wasn’t breaking lockdown btw, was doing a doorstep pick up of my Dads drill to put a new curtain pole up.
Been living with DH for 6 years and we have never invested in any DIY tools Shock

BIWI · 14/02/2021 09:14

@cheeseisthebest

I'm having a lot of salt so not been having electrolytes. Maybe I need salt in my water.

So you are, or you aren't, having salt?! Yes you need it - but also you need magnesium and potassium. Food sources include salmon, avocado, spinach and full fat natural yoghurt - or you could get a supplement like @StuntNun's?

@Jollyholibobs I did a fair bit of research into pans when we had our kitchen done. Mostly I was Shock at how expensive good pans are! In the end, I bought three of these from IKEA and these frying pans and this wok as well as this sauté pan on the basis that they were good value and also suitable for the new induction hob.

As cooking on induction was new for me, I figured I'd work out what did/didn't work to start with, before I invested in expensive pans.

Turns out that these pans are more than suitable, and I have no plans to buy any others for a while yet!

... oh, and I bought a small non-stick frying pan and two non-stick small saucepans from Sainsbury's too

@nowlook. AwwwwGrin I've just opened my valentines card from my littlest and it has made my day, he tells me I am a good mum and quite pretty, like a selkie... That he loves me and signs it ' yours sinsery, your son(sic)'
Now I'm getting my celebratory lie in and time to catch up with this lovely thread.
So pleased for you @BIWI and hope you feel better soon @cheeseisthebest. And finally @StuntNun, thanks for the pot tips, I have some unwieldy le crueset cast iron and I find them far trickier than the ceramic ones... Have a lovely day all
