Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

I had my jab AZ at noon and was poorly in the night and the next day, I took paracetamol before I went to bed, but I wish I had taken ibuprofen and paracetamol, as the paracetamol wore off very quickly.
I was much better 24 hours latter and feel absolutely normal a week on. dd2 Just had a sore arm.

Ninkanink · 05/02/2021 10:57

Morning all!

Enjoying my second creamy coffee and an episode of Frasier.👍👍

Today’s lunch will likely be eggs and cheesy mushrooms for lunch, with a salad on the side.

Dinner will be courgette and prawns with chilli, garlic and basil tomato sauce.

My SIL, who is in her early 70s, has just had hers and didn't have any side effects.

My dad (84) had the AZ one last week and said he just had a sore arm and was a bit tired the following day. As a retired doctor, he was quite happy that he had a reaction as it was evidence that the vaccine was stimulating the appropriate response.

Welcome @cringyminge! I love your username Grin

BIWI · 05/02/2021 11:06

Welcome @cringyminge! Make sure you have a good read of the rules so you know what to do. This WOE (way of eating) should help you not only lose the weight but also address the poor relationship you have with food, as we advocate/encourage real, nutritious food. Which is also superbly tasty of course! (A quick read of everyone's meals over the last few days should convince you of that Smile)

@Lyrata I made a quick creme fraiche sauce for our dinner last night by mixing it with some horse radish sauce. It went very well with the roasted celeriac so might be an option for you with the chips using yoghurt instead, if you have horseradish sauce. And I just realised you’ve probably long since had your breakfast...perhaps it’ll be useful for another time anyway!
@ouchmyfeet is the Chinese takeaway online? If so, can you post the link and we can have a look at the menu for you.
Here it is:

www.gonbay.co.uk/takeaway-menu/

Not sure why they have different menus for the 2 branches, they look pretty similar to me and we live between them so can go to either. Thanking you in advance!

ouchmyfeet · 05/02/2021 11:21

@cringyminge

Thank you *@BIWI* where would I find the rules? I've just had a quick flick through and so wish I'd seen this at the beginning
@cringyminge welcome! There's a low carb bootcamp board in the weightloss section. Have a look at the threads there, there's loads of information and tips and posters here are really helpful

@ouchmyfeet you are very, very close to me!

In the olden days I went to AGGS!

BIWI · 05/02/2021 11:40

@cringyminge

Welllll in a really simple way I understand it as I can eat any thing with a carb content below 4g per 100g?

And lots of fat

Cut all processed foods and drink plenty of water?

If that's it I can deal Grin

The rules are in the spreadsheet, which I always link to in the OP of each chat thread.

Just add your name to the bottom (don't try and insert it in the 'right' alphabetical place) and the Always Very Lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready will make sure it goes in the right place. AND DON'T TOUCH ANY OF THE BLUE CELLS!

But the above is a pretty good summary! Grin

Please read the rules, though, and while you're there, have a look at some of the other resources that are on the spreadsheet, so that you really understand how/why low carbing works.

And good luck!

@cringyminge - Welcome Thanks In the opening post of this thread, there is a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Within that is a tab that outlines the Rules and other tabs with loads of resources (both reading to do do to explain why this Way of Eating works and is good for you and things like carb counts of veg).

Alternatively, or probably in addition to looking there, you can go back into the Low Carb Boot Camp topic and find the Week 1 thread. The OP of that thread will explain the Rules. (Don't think the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness will work as someone wrote a comment that revealed their name Shock, so it had to be pulled and corrected)

@ouchmyfeet

It's always difficult to know what is and isn't a good choice, when menus are written so sparsely, which most takeaways are!

If I were ordering from that menu, I'd build my meal from the starters, as they look the 'safest' in terms of not having sweet, thickened sauces or being deep fried in batter. So I'd have the chicken lettuce wrap (it will probably come with hoisin sauce or some other sweet sauce, so either avoid or go easy on that - maybe use some soy sauce instead?) and the steamed scallops with ginger, soy and spring onion.

Things to definitely avoid:

 • obviously sweet sauces (sweet & sour, pineapple, plum, lemon etc). Kung pao is often very sweet too
 • anything with sweetcorn (it's possible there might be some in the lettuce wraps - as long as there's not loads don't worry about it)
 • anything with cashew nuts - they are really carby
 • anything 'crispy' as it's probably been coated in flour before being fried

... and obviously rice, dumplings and prawn crackers!

My finished cushion cover (kept my fingers occupied and not habit snacking Grin). It will actually go on the other sofa rather than the one which has the Afghan blanket on it already.

Four family members have had their first jabs in the last few weeks (2 x 75+ & 2 x NHS workers), the ones 75+ said they felt fine, the two younger NHS said they felt ‘a bit fluey’ for 24 hours afterwards, i think it all depends on the individual.

Today is a new day. Creamy coffee & greek yog for breakfast. No idea about lunch yet, DH is in the middle of redecorating so will be moving furniture on my lunch break!
Tea is salmon with a spicy stir fry, going to add a touch of sesame oil after.
Bit behind with water today but will catch up.

BIWI · 05/02/2021 11:50

@cringyminge

Smash as many eggs in my face as I can

Don't forget to take the shells off first

Good point @prettybird!

But I think that was on the last thread. Hard to say, as there have been so many this Bootcamp.

Just in case though HERE'S A LINK TO THE SPREADSHEET

Wow @prettybird that’s amazing!

I bought a cross stitch kit ages ago with a view to starting it when we moved into our old house. We’ve been here for six months now and I’ve not started. It’s so big and so complex compared to what I’m used to and it’s quite daunting!

LittleMy77 · 05/02/2021 11:55

Another 1lb down which is pretty good given a birthday blip last week.Had a terrible cpl of days not being prepared enough with food prep and ate a TON of halloumi yesterday as a result

Dh and I sat down and did meal planning and grocery list last night. Will be cooking stuff for lunches this weekend as it’s where I flounder

The only thing I’m really missing is bread! Pasta etc I’m not bothered about, and now I’m finally not missing a drink Blush bit of an eye opener about how much of a habit I’d formed after a stressful day at work (which is basically every day) been trying to shift my fat arse into the peloton bike in an evening instead of having a wine

NSV is my chest seems to have deflated. Sounds bad but it’d had got huge and not in a nice way - had become a shelf / bosom hoiking ability!

Bestbees · 05/02/2021 11:57

@prettybird thats beautiful!

Well I was starving so ate my delicious cheese salad with plenty of oily dressing. I was trying to get my fat to 16 hours, but it was proper tummy rumbling and I started thinking about biscuits so thought best to eat something on plan! Will prob eat a boiled egg at 4ish as I am going for a run and wont eat until 8, but will see how I go. Trying to focus on hunger not time of day but it is hard!
