Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Haha @LittleMy77 - my NSV along those lines is that it‘s uncomfortable when I sit on the hard floor now because I have less cushioning.

prettybird · 05/02/2021 12:00

@BIWI

Good point *@prettybird*!

But I think that was on the last thread. Hard to say, as there have been so many this Bootcamp.

Just in case though HERE'S A LINK TO THE SPREADSHEET

I was meaning if she went back to your Week 1 thread as I suggested, the SoF in that one wouldn't work. Wink
prettybird · 05/02/2021 12:10

@Ninkanink

Wow *@prettybird* that’s amazing!

I bought a cross stitch kit ages ago with a view to starting it when we moved into our old house. We’ve been here for six months now and I’ve not started. It’s so big and so complex compared to what I’m used to and it’s quite daunting!

My mum used to do lots of Danish cross stitch embroidery and taught me (her MIL her favourite relative , my fabled Danish granny, had taught her Smile). My witch of a MIL died just over a year ago and had also been "into" embroidery and left behind a shop's worth lot of kits. SIL has a thing about Russian dolls and one of the kits was of three Russian dolls so I thought I'd do it for her Christmas. Well, the cross stitch was fine but the massive amount of French embroidery was an absolute pain and involved a lot of sighing and cursing and I'm not sure added as much as the effort involved . End result was good though and well appreciated Smile
@prettybird thats beautiful!

Well I was starving so ate my delicious cheese salad with plenty of oily dressing. I was trying to get my fat to 16 hours, but it was proper tummy rumbling and I started thinking about biscuits so thought best to eat something on plan! Will prob eat a boiled egg at 4ish as I am going for a run and wont eat until 8, but will see how I go. Trying to focus on hunger not time of day but it is hard!
@Bestbees

If you're hungry, EAT!

This WOE isn't about deprivation. Especially if it starts to set off cravings.

Fasting isn't part of Bootcamp anyway, so please don't torture yourself like this.

@LittleMy77

The only thing I’m really missing is bread!

This here, is a really good example of why it's important to read the whole thread!

There has been a lot of discussion on this and the last thread about two companies who make very good low carb bread.

Here's one of them . I haven't tried it yet, so can't vouch for it, but I believe @nowlook has

Here's the second one . I have tried both the bread and the rolls and can absolutely vouch for them being just like 'proper' bread. Expensive, but if you're craving bread, this will really work for you.

Sorry @prettybird - totally misunderstood you Grin

prettybird · 05/02/2021 12:21

I don't think we've talked yet on this thread about the importance of not being overwhelmed by the size of our target (whatever that might be) but just to take the first step Smile

That target will still be there, tomorrow, next week, next year, two years time, whether you've taken that first step or not. But if you have taken that step, you will be one step closer to it. Thanks

I'm paraphrasing the advice of one of the other BootCamper's old boss, when she was considering a qualification but was daunted by how long it would take. I'm sorry, I can never remember who it was Blush - but the advice really resonated with me. Smile

Bestbees · 05/02/2021 12:27

@BIWI no it wasn't torture I promise! Much more like 'I am hungry not thirsty so yes, I will eat' in a more positive way than it came across!

LittleMy77 · 05/02/2021 12:40

@BIWI I’ve read the full thread!

I’d rather just go without, as atm I don’t trust myself to not eat multiple slices

nowlook · 05/02/2021 12:53

Afternoon all! I planned a nice lazy afternoon, but it appears one of my clients has other ideas. Don't mind too much- they're prompt in settling invoices at least Grin

Re: low carb bread. I don't want any more of it! That sounds ridiculous, I know, but I felt shit all afternoon yesterday. Like I'd cheated or something. Probably all in my nut, but I was bloated and crotchety. If any Derbyshire peeps want a loaf, I'll cruise by and lob it through an open window.

Didn't want any supper as sulking, but did eat some of the Itsu seaweed things with cheese. They were hilarious. I thought they'd be more like crackers. Reader, they were not. They inadvertently cheered me right up because of their general pointlessness.

Anyway, I will be posting a picture of the cauliflower and leek crumble shortly...it's in the oven.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2021 12:58

Hello new people!

Have missed a lot of this week - work taking up all available headspace.

But local village shop RESULT! Courgettes and broccoli! Green things! Feel like true successful hunter/gatherer.

Which makes tonight's dinner cauliflower courgette&broccoli cheese. Probs with added fried mushrooms in the sauce.

B: none
L: not yet, not hungry
D: as above

Water: not enough, will remedy that now.

nowlook · 05/02/2021 13:01

Just had the crumble!

Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?
nowlook · 05/02/2021 13:08

Switching back to desktop for the review..

It wasn't cauli and leek, but chicken and leek. Utterly brilliant. Just like a stew you make with leftover chicken after a roast dinner. Seriously, 10/10 stuff. Am so relieved, following yesterday's Stroganoff disappointment. There was plenty too. I've shown it sans veg on a normal-sized dinner plate so you get the idea. I reckon it would serve two when accompanied by veg as I've saved some for later!

Here's the info:
lowcarbfood.co/shop/chicken-leek-crumble/

Note, there are almonds involved, so this is a BC Light offering. But, if I had cooked this from scratch I would be bragging about it on the recipe thread (never gonna happen).

Yay for me and my lunch Grin

ouchmyfeet · 05/02/2021 13:10

Thanks @BIWI, I've had their chicken lettuce wraps lots of times and love them, but they have tiny noodles in them . I think I'll decide later what to do, perhaps a hybrid of some Chinese takeaway with some of my own fried green veg to fill me up.

@prettybird that embroidery is absolutely gorgeous! I love Russian dolls 🪆

Waving down the road to @ChristMyArse 👋

BIWI · 05/02/2021 13:16

@ouchmyfeet

It does say at the bottom of the menu that you can request dishes not on the menu - so you could always try asking if they could do the chicken wraps without the noodles?

I note too that they do stir fried vegetables and stir fried beansprouts - I'd go for either/both of those

L:Ham salad with mayo
T:Chicken wings with homemade coleslaw.

L:chicken with salad and mayo
T: pork chops with asparagus and savoy cabbage fried in butter.

I love cross stitching. Keeps my fingers busy. This is my current project.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 05/02/2021 13:33

@Christmyarse took around 6 hours to feel unwell. I got it in the morning after nightshift and woke up feeling unwell. This was my second dose though, I felt fine after the first. A lot of people reporting feeling unwell after the second Pfizer dose. But I work with 19 others and just myself and one other co worker felt unwell. Lots of people are fine afterwards. Sorry if I frightened anyone.

Thanks for the tips about the cream and veg with breakfast. I am NOT a morning person I normally drink tea and coffee until lunch so it was a struggle to be organised and make eggs. But I'll have time tomorrow it's Saturday.

Hi @cringyminge. I started yesterday and am also working shifts so we are in the same boat! Homeschooling and night shifts are no craic. Mine are 9 and 11 so that's not too bad they are being very helpful tbh. I'm off this week so will use the time to prepare food for next week when I'm in.

No tossed salad and scrambled eggs @ninkanink?

@prettybird, that is beautiful! Well done!

@littlemy77 well done on your loss. I'm the same recently with wine. When I'm off work I am probably drinking 2 bottles a week at the moment. And then gin and beer on top of it.. It's really become a crutch. So this WOE should be a good excuse to cut down. I used to have a large gin and tonic when my week was over and some wine every other weekend which was doable. I'm making the effort to get out and run or walk alone too which I need. I didn't do that last lockdown and my mental health suffered.

@NisekoWhistler that prawn recipe looks great, thanks. It's pizza night in our house tonight and I have some prawns for myself with celeriac chips. So will try your recipe it sounds delicious!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 05/02/2021 13:37

@prettybird that's lovely - beautiful colour too.

StuntNun · 05/02/2021 13:46

We're gonna need a bigger thread!

Ouchmyfeet crampy legs is usually magnesium. Do you get pins and needles in your fingers or toes at all? Or have trouble staying asleep? Unfortunately the magnesium in most supplements and electrolytes isn't particularly bioavailable. I've been chronically low in magnesium for years and I take magnesium glycinate. For your Chinese meal you're going to be choosing the least worst option. I like duck dishes because you can often lift the duck out and leave most of the sauce behind. Or if you're feeling brave ask for just duck with no sauce. Check out the accompaniments for veggies. My Chinese takeaway does lovely fried mushrooms which seem pretty low carb as they don't come in a sauce. You could get bean sprouts from yours.

Lolz at "Smash as many eggs in my face as I can." Nice one Cringy.

OMG Prettybird the cushion and blanket look amazing. Well done you! And the cross stitch too. I hate embroidery with a passion, it's far too difficult.

LittleMy77 I freeze the bread in two-slice portions individually bagged so I won't be tempted to overeat it can't really afford to anyway, the Seriously Low Carb bread is Seriously Expensive. Maybe I'll ask for some as a birthday present!

NowLook I find some low carb ingredients make me feel bloated and heavy, especially flaxseed and coconut flour. Does the bread contain anything like that, with loads of fibre?

It's a bit of a weird food day for me. I enjoyed my crab and prawn soup so much yesterday that I had it again today for lunch. I made a huge pan full and ate the lot so I'm stuffed. I also had some kimchi and kefir to keep my gut happy. Tonight will be Currywurst and a movie, possibly with a bottle of Nanny State seeing as it's been so highly recommended. I can't believe it's only 1% carbs. I make the Currywurst from Lidl Bratwurst and Goldfish Curry Sauce concentrate. The curry sauce is a bit carby at 7.1g per 100g but it tastes like proper chip shop curry sauce and it's by far the lowest carb one I've found. It's the closest I can get to my beloved, but forbidden, takeaway curry chips so it's DH and I have it for an occasional treat.

@StuntNun I'm not an expert, but these were the ingredients of the low-carb flour used in the bread: Golden Linseed, Oat Fibre, Psyllium Husk, Vital Wheat Gluten, Salt. Looks like a fair few potential culprits!

Doilooklikeatourist · 05/02/2021 14:32

Fancied something else to eat after lunch , and discovered a pack of pork scratchings with a use by date of tomorrow
How convenient , I thought
Halfway through the pack , they started tasting really lardy ,
🤢
I thought these are either going in the bin or on my bum , so into the bin they went
That’ll teach me
Except it probably wont

prettybird · 05/02/2021 14:44

nowlook - sone people react badly to vital wheat gluten. Maybe that's the culprit?

WitchWand · 05/02/2021 15:05

@Lyrata and @MrsOmelette, thankyou for your lovely words earlier this week. They made a difference to me. I've been really busy at work and couldn't get back sooner. But it was lovely thinking about what you both said. Great recipe too Mrs Omelette - hope you're on the mend now. Flowers

Primitivo · 05/02/2021 15:06

Wow @prettybird that's so lovely 😊
