Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

ListenLinda, sorry to hear your news. Flowers

Just checking in. Have had horrible week food wise but got back on track properly a couple of days ago. Have got my period and I'm worried about my mum who is unwell and having an operation today. Chocolate has always been my 'go to' to feel better and I do have a tendency to self sabotage when things have been going well diet wise. Basically I think my head is a mess! Anyway, am definitely back on track now.

nowlook · 05/02/2021 08:28

Can I send mine to yours, venus? They'll bring a packed lunch and a trundle wheel Grin

nowlook · 05/02/2021 08:33

Great news on the vaccine @Bestbees! What's your cocktail of choice? Cuba Libre has been a god send for me in the past when going out (remember that!).

Sounds like a rough week @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously Thanks

ChristMyArse · 05/02/2021 08:58

@Bestbees great news about your DH, I'm having mine this morning too.

I have a water question. I'm on 4lts a day and include my herbal teas in that as they are 300mls each, but BIWI saying that black coffee doesn't count as water has made me wonder if other people include their teas as part of their water.. and if I should be doing?!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 05/02/2021 09:03

I meant to add earlier that if anyone is still looking for cauliflower rice and don't have a Tesco nearby, Iceland also sell frozen microwaveable bags.

StuntNun · 05/02/2021 09:13

Venusandnmars teach me your meatloaf ways. Do you follow a recipe? I also want to know more about Bestbees's deep fried cauliflower.

ChristMyArse yes herbal teas count towards your daily water. You can only count two caffeinated drinks towards your total.

I fasted for most of yesterday with no problems - which was nice. When I got to bedtime, I couldn’t sleep and felt very hyper so broke my fast at midnight with some salami.

Today - I am having celeriac chips for breakfast with most likely some sort of yogurt dip. Maybe a yogurt feta dip.
Lunch will be spicy sausage soup
And dinner will be more of the soup with a large side plate of Mediterranean vegetables.

Thank you for the activity tips! @StuntNun jerky is a great idea - I love that sort of thing.

And @prettybird your knitting is beautiful. Second the comments on the colour - great choice. Anthropologie have actually emailed me this morning advertising 20% off their ruinously expensive knitwear - which has inspired me a bit to look into cardigan patterns.

StuntNun · 05/02/2021 09:15

Stoopid phone Hmm

Ooh, I do have one of those. Thank you!

Food plan for today - I'm in the office today and finding high fat things that don't include cheese is a challenge (shopping done on Saturday so cupboard was slightly bare this morning) so lunch will be unsuitable, but dinner will make up for it:

Lunch: sashimi and edamame - think I might have miso too if allowed?
Dinner: Philly cheesesteak - sliced ribeye, squeezy cheese, fried onion and green pepper, mushroom all in butter, minus the bun. Plus fried kalettes (quite excited about these).
Drinks: two coffees with unsweetened almond milk

Can anyone advise the best things to choose from a Chinese takeaway? My kids are dead set on having one tonight... I'd love to join them but am happy to sit it out if there's nothing low enough in carbs.

I've had a look at the menu and I think there might be a few options but would very much appreciate some advise from you wise and experienced bootcampers. There's no nutritional information offered but these are the things I thought sounded possible:

Hot & sour soup
Steamed scallop with ginger, spring onion and soy sauce
Steamed king prawns with garlic

Of the main options where you pick a protein to go with the sauce, I thought chilli garlic sauce or curry sauce might be okay? There's also a Thai green curry sauce and:

fillet steak in black pepper sauce
Steamed or pan fried sea bass with ginger and spring onion

I read that black bean sauce tends to be lowish carb but it's basically the only Chinese dish I really don't like.

Sorry to those having bad weeks for various reasons, hopefully Friday will lift you all. I'm envious of those who can knit, I've tried to learn so many times but I'm absolutely rubbish at it. I'm normally a quilter but it takes a lot of time and energy to do a big project and I don't really have that at the moment. Love a cross stitch thought, I'm working on a Christmas one that I failed to have done in time for 2020, so aiming for 2021 Smile

ouchmyfeet · 05/02/2021 09:37

Still working on my electrolyte balance. Salt on the tongue tastes horrible and I am salting my food liberally so I don't think it's that. Had 1.5 zero tablets yesterday but woke up with leg cramps last night so I've had half an avocado for breakfast and may have 2 zero tablets today

Bestbees · 05/02/2021 09:37

@ChristMyArse hurray for vaccines!

@newlook I am going to make a blackberry clover club. It does use a small amount of sugar syrup, which I might reduce even further as I haven't had sugar all year and think it might be too sweet.

@StuntNun usually I cut the cauli up, dip in egg then polenta which has been seasoned and has lemon zest and then fry. I will be changing it to ground almonds and parmesan crust. Let's hope it works!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 05/02/2021 09:46

@Bestbees my mum lives locally and - while I love her very much & appreciate her - it would be a cold day in hell before she spent a day like that with my kids . (She does have a close relationship with them, though). @venusandmars you really earn that gin, don't you!

I'm having my vaccine next week: can't wait. They can stick it in anywhere: I'll be dancing into the car park Glitterball

I've bought two wee bottles of Prosecco: one for tonight and one for tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous about it, as I really appreciate the way this WOE makes me feel & don't want to sabotage.

On the other hand, as BIWI said of herself upthread, I would like this to work for me in the long-term, & that will sometimes mean relaxing a bit at the weekend.

I've gained this week too, but am ignoring it as advised. 😅

NotwatchingSpooks · 05/02/2021 09:52

Morning all, venusandmars you sound like a fab grandma.

The sun is shinning today, so I am looking forward to walking in the park this morning.

I had my jab last week, it was so well organised and felt like a historic moment in my life. I did feel very, very poorly afterwards, Like I had the flu for about 24 hours, so would recommend making sure you have plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen to hand. I am Absolutely fine a week afterwards and will be back for my second dose in April without hesitation. My dd2 just had a sore arm.

Dd2 has heard back from her academic interview, she is their second choice. She was bitterly disappointed but the successful candidate had more experience in one of the key areas of research.

Today
B Greek yogurt with teaspoon double cream
L cheese salad
D salmon with flgv

2 coffees , Teapigs and water

ouchmyfeet · 05/02/2021 09:52

I'm wrestling with similar re the alcohol MilesJuppIsMyBitch . I've bought some skinny tonic for one G&T tonight but I'm apprehensive too. Conscious that I haven't lost weight this week but teetotal isn't where I want to be so need to explore carefully to find the balance

NisekoWhistler · 05/02/2021 10:20

Had a good couple of days and keeping on top of drinking plenty of water. The key to a good day for me is making sure I start with a coffee with cream, if I don't it tends to go to pot. I am also taking chromium picolinate which seems to really help with sweet cravings. To be fair if I eat enough fat I don't want sweet things.

Wed B: Coffee and cream
L: Prawn and courgette (as below)
D: Keto butter chicken with cauliflower rice

Thurs B: Coffee and cream
L: Sea Bass with a thai cococut cream sauce
D: Keto butter chicken with cauliflower rice

I have a new simple recipe and will share to the recipe file.

Creamy garlic prawns

25-30g of parmesan
2 cloves of garlic.
Coconut oil
300g courgettes, chopped up into small chunks
150g prawns
a big dollop of double cream

gently fry the garlic in coconut oil, then add the courgettes, fry for 5 mins, add the prawns, add the grated parmesan and then the cream, warm the cream and melt parmesan and then serve. I never though cheese and prawns would work but this is lovely and quick!

NotwatchingSpooks · 05/02/2021 10:21

MilesJuppIsMyBitch I love your “dancing in the car park” I felt just like that. I am just so very grateful that we are rolling them out so fast.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 05/02/2021 10:24

@venusandmars can I adopt you? I haven't had a babysitter since March last year now. We have met grandparents but just outside. I'm working in residential care and can't put them at risk. Homeschooling is easier this time around but I feel like it will never end.

I would just love a meal out and a couple of drinks. I will really appreciate it when the time comes!

@notwatchingspooks I had my second jab last week (Pfizer) and was very unwell for 24 hours afterwards. Had to take the night off work. Flu like symptoms and vomiting a lot. But I'm so glad to have it. My parents are in their early 60s so hoping they get theirs soon.

Had scrambled eggs with butter for breakfast. Would like a creamy coffee too, is this allowed on boot camp? Ive just started. Normally would have a cup of milky tea and I miss it.

ChristMyArse · 05/02/2021 10:38

I've just had the Astra Zeneca one, and I'm a bit nervous about feeling poorly with it.. my mum had it and was poorly for 24 hours.. how long after you've had the jan do the side effects kick in (if they are going to)?

ChristMyArse · 05/02/2021 10:41

@BustleInYourHedgerow yes to the creamy coffee! Just be aware cream can impact on weight loss for some people (I've just begrudgingly ceased my cream intake for a few days to see if it has an impact on my very static weight).

Re breakfast, a PP told me to try and have veg at every meal, so maybe fry some mushrooms or wilt some spinach etc to go with your eggs.

plumstone · 05/02/2021 10:44

So last night ended up being roast cauli and Broccoli with a double cream cheese and mustard sauce - was nice - but as I forgot to take chicken out freezer it was lacking protein, three slices of brie afterwards didn't really cut it, stopped prowling the kitchen by having a bath with Death in Paradise, and went to bed feeling short changed due to lack of protein - I need it!!

Today has been:
L - will be spinach, smoked salmon and a boiled egg
D - Chicken (its currently defrosting) and roast kale with creamy leeks.
W - 4 litres
C - 2

This weekend will be much the same - have planned a massive clean of the kitchen, inside cupboards, fridge, and under the sink will be tackled - by the time that's done, it will be a long bath and bed. Based on the weather for my part of the world, i don't think I'll be going over the doorstep!!

KOKO everyone!

prettybird · 05/02/2021 10:46

You've reminded me: I need to get the lamb out the freezer so that we can have it tomorrow night! Grin

@ouchmyfeet is the Chinese takeaway online? If so, can you post the link and we can have a look at the menu for you.
