Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

OMG those Brewdog drinks sound amazing!

Will have to explore a bit more. Has anyone tried any of them?

I bought some almond essence (rapeseed oil and almond oil only ingredients.) popped a dash in my yog for a lovely ameretto flavour. Would be yummy desert of thick cream, berries and grated chocolate.

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 20:39

My DH really rates the Brewdog Nanny State (non-alcoholic beer), so maybe they’ve managed to work their magic again!

BIWI · 04/02/2021 20:40

yes @Ninkanink the Nanny State is really good. I have one can while I'm cooking - it really does the job of making me feel like I'm drinking something alcoholic! There are carbs in it, which is why I only have one, but it's really enjoyable. Nice and bitter.

Please explore quickly and let us know if we get the go ahead to purchase!!! This could be life changing Biwi.. LIFE CHANGING!!!!
StuntNun · 04/02/2021 20:46

Dailyhandtowelwash did you choose wine or champagne? I think champagne is slightly lower carb but not too much. Not jealous at all at only four days into dry February.

It's eye opening isn't it ZiggZagg. Apparently I'm 28HH which seems ridiculous. I go into Bravissimo for a fitting, buy one bra, and then order duplicates in other colours from cheaper online places. Although last time I bought two in Bravissimo because the lady was so lovely and helpful and I didn't think it was right to save about £6 after all her hard work fitting me, all while social distancing no less. Poinsettiaa* are another good online shop.

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 20:57

@BIWI yes that’s what he says too - the bitterness/hoppy flavour is good and masks the fact that it’s not alcoholic (he finds a lot of non-alc beers way too sweet). I’ve had it but it’s a couple of years ago now and I really can’t remember what it tastes like...but now that I know that you have one while you’re cooking I might have one here and there too Grin (got into a terrible lockdown habit of enjoying a glass of wine to relax whilst cooking and then another after dinner, on more evenings than is strictly healthy. Keeping it to a couple of days per week now.

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 21:14

@Lyrata thank you! It was quite delicious, if I do say so myself. Wink

ZiggZagg · 04/02/2021 21:23

@Doilooklikeatourist @StuntNun thank you both so much! Ordered a little kinky set for DHs Valentine's Day present Wink haha!

He's so sweet! I asked him today if my boobs have gone weird (I've lost lots of weight and think they're like beagle ears) and he said he thinks they're lovely 🤣🤣 so he deserves a good present!

LostaraYil · 04/02/2021 21:29

Wow the thread moves so fast. Trying to keep up.
Nowlook, keep the reviews coming for the ready meals. I could definitely use some for nights when DH is cooking (he tries but wouldn't recognize a carby vegetable or ingredient if it hit him in the face).
Prettybird I'm so impressed with your knitting. I need to take it up again but can't find the motivation in the evenings to do anything other than watching TV.
My 24h fast yesterday was great, I felt full of energy but was happy to finish. 92h is on a different level! I would like to do a bit longer to help with breaking out of eating just for the habit or out of boredom.
ListenLinda so sorry about your news. Flowers

venusandmars · 04/02/2021 21:29

@ZiggZagg I've also got meatloaf in the oven. Wrapped in bacon, and it smells glorious. Ready to be sliced cold for lunch tomorrow.

@Dailyhandtowelwash that doesn't look like very much food at all? Sometimes people lose more when they eat more.

@ChristMyArse the Hard Seltzers might be zero carb but they've got alcohol in them. That's the easiest source of fuel for your body to use, so until the alcohol is used up you won't be burning fat...

cheeseisthebest · 04/02/2021 21:36

Sorry just catching up. Had a very stressful work day and very stressful homeschooling day. Sad
So sorry about your news ListenLinda, big hugs.
I love love love the processed cheese slices, might have burgers with no bun and processed cheese and bacon next week.

My low carb bread arrived today, I cant remember who said they hadnt got theirs yet but hope you have now.

A weird food day but stayed on plan. Had breakfast about 9.30, buttery scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
Lunch about 3 was courgettes, bacon and mushrooms cooked in bacon mixed with some greek yoghurt.
Then had dinner of leftover shepherds (I scooped off and threw away the potato) with spinach, mange tout and green beans. Mixed butter in with the spinach.

Had my 2.5 litres of water, 3 cups of tea and 1 creamy coffee.

cheeseisthebest · 04/02/2021 21:37

Cooked in butter not bacon!

venusandmars · 04/02/2021 21:53

Meat loaf, ready to go in the fridge, served with salad for lunch tomorrow.

cheeseisthebest · 04/02/2021 21:57

That looks incredible!

venusandmars · 04/02/2021 22:14

Tomorrow is my day for home-skilling my grandchildren. It's sort of like home-schooling but no curriculum to follow and more domestic. (That's why I've cooked lunch already - when dgc are here I've no time to cook!).

Home-skilling has chemistry (solid - liquid - gas experiments using melted chocolate for the paradise slice, and ice to water to steam for cooking potatoes); maths - weights and measures for baking, having to half all the quantities; writing skills - making a shopping list so grandad can buy the ingredients for aforementioned baking; geography - a sort of local orienteering course following a map from granny's house, past the park, round the harbour, up to the station, etc (with stickers for every location apparently the best bit is that I give them a clipboard ); PE - understanding left and right by playing Twister (right foot red, left hand yellow etc); art - allowing dgc to roam free in our recycling boxes, add scissors, glue, paint....

By 6pm I will have dropped them off, returned home, and will be in need of a stiff gin. With soda, and a squeeze of lime.

Don't burst my bubble woman!!!

BIWI · 04/02/2021 22:18

@venusandmars you sound like a truly amazing grandma!

I have no chance of grandchildren for the foreseeable future, so I live vicariously through my great nieces/nephews - and other people's grandchildren.

Motivateinmotion · 04/02/2021 22:49

So sorry @ListenLinda thinking of you Flowers

@venusandmars that meatloaf looks amazing can you share the recipe or have I missed it?

Today has been ok
L- moussaka and buttered kale
D- bacon, halloumi and mushrooms, broccoli and kale in butter (random mix of leftovers)
3L water plus coffees

Week 3 and the dreaded gain. Trying really hard not to let it throw me off

cheeseisthebest · 04/02/2021 23:03

Venusandmars that sounds amazing. My son would love to do the orineteering, might try and sort something like that for him. He loves geocahching.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 04/02/2021 23:24

@venusandmars thanks - it's actually more than I used to eat! The lunch was very slight but dinner was two helpings of the frittata, a big pile of creamed spinach and some courgettes cooked in butter
@stuntnun I had a small glass of sauvignon having found a list of carb counts of wine that said it was one of the lowest carb wines. Although I then spotted that champagne is as low!

ShagMeRiggins · 05/02/2021 05:31

apparently the best bit is that I give them a clipboard

Bestbees · 05/02/2021 07:29

@venusandmars with you on the stressful home schooling. I didn't mind it in first lock down as I had more time and the pressure was less. Now it is much more stressful an Di worry about my kids development.

@venusandmars you sound ace! I never used to mind that my parents didn't live locally but this situation has made me want it so badly!

Todays plan:
Goats cheese salad same as yesterday.

Dinner is a treat to celebrate that my vulnerable husband will have the vaccine tomorrow. Going to have one cocktail (def. Not on plan) then tapas, all food on plan: chorizo in red wine, deep fried cauli with garlic mayo, manchego and olives, celeriac bravas and turkey meatballs in Tom sauce. Pudding is boozy plums and cream so not quite on plan, might have a square or two of dark choc. Will have a glass of red too. Kind of interested what effect the booze and small amount of sugar will have. But also thinking that this isn't too bad a selection, and that this is a cause worth the celebration!

venusandmars · 05/02/2021 07:55

Always good to hear of 'real' people getting the vaccine. Certainly something to celebrate bestbees

B - creamy coffee (mostly missing out on breakfast but need something today to fortify me before the onslaught!)
morning activity is a nature walk to the beach and the bird reserve, with a nature spotting quiz - and a chance for dgc to run around with the clipboards. Followed by some colouring / crafting
L - meat loaf, salad, (potatoes for dh and dgc) raspberries and cream (meringues for dh and dgc)
afternoon activity includes making flapjacks - most of which they can take home - and a walk to the local park to see the birds in the aviary.
D - griddled haloumi on buttered leeks with lime and cumin (thank you to whoever made that suggestion) accompanied by broccoli and kale crisps.
Feet up with a gin.
