Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

@Ninkanink I'm so with you on daffodils. I have a jug-full in my (now gradually reforming after all the building-work) kitchen this week - they lift my spirits like sunshine.

So sorry to hear your sad news @ListenLinda Flowers (Though even daffodils are not bright enough for this) 56 is far too young.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 04/02/2021 17:34

@ListenLinda such difficult news, thinking of you and your family.

@prettybird we’re having slow roasted shoulder of lamb on Sunday, then at least one day of lamb leftovers (possibly two judging by the enormous hunk of lamb we got at the butchers today!).

prettybird · 04/02/2021 17:38

So sorry ListenLinda Thanks

56 is far too young - a few years younger than me Sad So much sadness around Sad It's hard to find the joy sometimes - but I agree: daffodils are a wee bit of indoor sunshine and a harbinger of spring on its way DaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

prettybird · 04/02/2021 18:09

I love slow roasted shoulder of lamb Smile So tasty Grin

We're having a big leg of NZ lamb that I bought last year (bought 2, froze one) when Tesco had them at £6/kg Shock

Hopeislost · 04/02/2021 18:11

So sorry to hear your news @ListenLinda

@Justcallmecaptainobvious I have made the low carb moussaka with leftover roast shoulder of lamb and it is even more delicious than the mince version!

ZiggZagg · 04/02/2021 18:23

Sorry to hear your news @ListenLinda Thanks

I've got a meatloaf in the oven with mushrooms stuffed with garlic butter, Boursin, spring onion and cheese 🤤

RagzReturnsRebooted · 04/02/2021 18:44

Well, today could have been better carb wise, but I didn't eat any of the posh biscuits that one of my patients had bought especially for me, despite my mood meaning I'd have happily eaten the whole packet. I didn't even bring them home. I left them in the staff kitchen and hope they will rapidly disappear tomorrow!

Breakfast - creamy coffee, babybel.
Lunch - tiscan chicken soup from Lidl (too carby it turns out, I was only looking at % carbs when I bought it, forgetting I'd be eating 300ml)
Dinner - leftover lasagne (aubergine grilled instead of pasta) with leftover celeriac and some salad. Too much meat, not enough green veg. Tasted bloody amazing though (see photo).
Creamy coffee for pudding before I head out for a dark and rainy walk around the village with my NDN as we both need it.

Have been a sheep and ordered the bread and rolls. DH does burgers once a week, so I can have one with a roll! Initially balked at the cost, then realised at less than £1 a roll that's not bad compared to the supermarket sandwiches I frequently bought before. I'm clearly happy to pay for convenience and hoping that these may become a staple that enable me to keep up LC rather than giving up after losing the weight like I did last time.

Hope everyone is KOKO okay and hugs to everyone having a shitty time. I'm definitely missing real hugs and I'm not a particularly huggy person! Hugs from the DCs aren't the same kind of comforting as hugs from a friend, when you feel crap.

Well I had roast lamb (£6 from Tesco same as PrettyBird) last Sunday so I'm ahead of the curve

I finished my fast today, managing 92 hours in the end, so I can go back to posting my meals again:
L: crab and prawn soup (an hour after a mug of bone broth to get my digestive system working.)
D: pork escalope fried in lots of butter nom thank you DH burp with roasted courgette, pepper and red onion, plus a glass of kefir which I make myself from unpasteurised milk.
Lots of water with electrolytes and tea and black coffee and herbal teas - far too many to count. I always find I need to drink loads when I'm fasting, I assume because we actually get quite a bit of our fluid intake from food.

I'm thinking about making the Chinese steamed eggs tomorrow or possibly having some fried mushrooms on low carb toast, not quite sure yet. I have more tiny mason jars having managed to lose one somehow on the way from Amazon so I can scale up my sous vide egg bites production. Dinner tomorrow will perhaps be roast chicken then I'm going to attempt the cheeseburger pie on Saturday just for DH and I. We're desperately trying to cut down on our food costs - four DCs with food allergies, restricted eating, food allergies, and quite different fussy tastes between them are expensive to feed. For example two can't have dairy, and one can't tolerate foods where two textures touch such as lasagne or pie. So I need to spend some time reworking our meal repertoire to try and cut costs. Not to mention that with all four of them at home all the time they're getting through snacks at a prodigious rate.

These came up in my Facebook feed - zero carb alcoholic drinks from Brewdog. I know, I'm really selling them but the flavours look really interesting

Dailyhandtowelwash · 04/02/2021 19:19

@ListenLinda so very, very sorry. It’s so hard.

I also didn’t like the cheeseburger pie. It’s the only recipe from the recipe thread that hasn’t hit home so far. I adore cheeseburgers too (@BIWI even better than cheese slices is squeezy cheese but you have to get it from American specialists) so it was a disappointment.

The low carb bread looks really lovely - I don’t really like white sliced bread so the Seriously Low Carb bread doesn’t call to me. I’ve got a bit confused about where it’s from though?

Also very important question indeed - which is lower in carbs - dry white wine or dry champagne? I’m having my first drink in three weeks tonight during Zoom with a friend I haven’t caught up with for two years, and I’ll happily have a glass of whichever is better.

Food today:
Lunch: salad leaves with cold meats (various) and mayonnaise (eaten in a five minute gap between constant meetings)
Dinner: hot smoked salmon frittata with creamed spinach
Drinks: two coffees with oat milk

Midlifemission · 04/02/2021 19:32

Argh this is the first time since last Bootcamp I haven't posted for so long and lost touch with the thread. Not good as I feel I need this to keep me accountable.
Anyway I am here, I was 1lb down on Monday and am KOKO though struggling a bit with work, life , lockdown, homeschool so feeling a bit frazzled this week.
Will catch up with the thread properly but just wanted to sorry for your difficult news @ListenLinda .

BustleInYourHedgerow · 04/02/2021 19:43

Well done @pinkpinkeverywhere for your 1 stone loss thats fantastic!

So 1st day over with. I feel fine, not hungry and actually dont have any cravings for sweet stuff yet.

Breakfast : 2 Eggs in a cup with butter
Lunch: Baby gem 'sandwiches' with ham, cheese mayonnaise and tomato.
Dinner: Traybake with chicken Thighs, chorizo and asparagus. Sprinach sautéed with garlic and butter.

2.5 l water
2 green teas
3 coffees

ShagMeRiggins · 04/02/2021 19:56

I adore cheeseburgers too (@BIWI even better than cheese slices is squeezy cheese but you have to get it from American specialists) so it was a disappointment.

That can’t be true, can it Dailyhand?

Primula is a squeezy cheese and I occasionally get “American”-style yellow cheese slices from the corner Spar or at local CO-Op. possibly even Tesco.

I’m sure these are all reasonably priced.

This isn’t to advocate the use of unbelievably processed cheese, but on occasion the pure meltability is perfect. Similar to salami, for example; I don’t recommend processed meat on a regular basis but sometimes it is what’s needed.

I am drinking almost NO water these days. I do KOKO and do keep trying.

ShagMeRiggins · 04/02/2021 19:58

By “yellow” I mean “orange.”

Dailyhandtowelwash · 04/02/2021 20:00

Squeezy cheese: americanfizz.co.uk/food-and-groceries/sauces-and-condiments/old-fashioned-foods-mature-cheddar-squeeze-cheese-340g.html

Amazon charges £17 a bottle!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 04/02/2021 20:01

Also, and it may only be on offer in summer, but Lidl does luminous orange cheese slices which I think are the best.

Good god - could these be a game changer?!?!
ListenLinda · 04/02/2021 20:06

Thank you, all of you. It’s helped a lot this afternoon, to say it out loud, or write it down on here.
All we can do is make the most of the last few weeks, as his decision is to refuse further treatment. We are a close knit family so this will hit us all hard, but we have to keep on. I keep wanting to cry a little every now and then, but i’m trying to hold off until DD is in bed. She is only three and she doesnt understand. Me & DH shared a few tears earlier this afternoon. God love him he’s been amazing (he usually is but you know).
It had been very cathartic to write this message out so thank you for letting me share. There may be some Gin in the not too distant future Sad
My burger was lovely though, atleast food is staying on track.

ShagMeRiggins · 04/02/2021 20:07
That’s clearly an outrageous price.

Then again, I keep trying to find a reasonably priced block of Velveeta (and yes, I do know it’s utter shite Grin) so I can mix it with a can of Rotel and make a chili con quesofor Superbowl weekend.

Once a year only! I can live with my LCHF sins.

ZiggZagg · 04/02/2021 20:10

I've used the BOB method and jumped from a 42F to a 36JJ Blush and how bloody expensive are Bravissimo?!?! I nearly choked on my meatloaf!!

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 20:17

Dinner tonight was really lovely! A little on the carby side with carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, onions, but it balanced out because I didn’t get a chance to have lunch. Did have some dark choc and a little bit of peanut butter.

Finding it really hard to drink my water the past couple of days, must do better tomorrow! Will try to get two glasses in before bed, as well as a cup of tea.

Ninkanink · 04/02/2021 20:23

Forgot photo!

I managed to get aubergine x2, courgette x3 and a very big celeriac today.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 04/02/2021 20:24

@ShagMeRiggins it’s only £3.99 from that site luckily.

Lyrata · 04/02/2021 20:28

Oh your food looks so good @Ninkanink!
