Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Welcome @BustleInYourHedgerow!

@Motivateinmotion yes, I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear - 'green veg' means veg that's green!

My fault @BIWI noted and will be stocking up. Thanks

Jollyholibobs · 03/02/2021 15:59

@pinkpinkeverywhere fantastic weight loss in first two weeks. That must help with motivation and belief in this WOE. So pleased for you.

pinkpinkeverywhere · 03/02/2021 16:12

Thank you @Jollyholibobs, yes it's already meaning there isn't as much splurge over the top of my trousers Blush and means I'm finding the self control to stick to it, even when the children are warming pain au chocolates for mid morning snack......

NotwatchingSpooks · 03/02/2021 16:29

Afternoon, my Oddbox, Veg box has loads of Kale, I have never successfully cooked it as a side, so I usually, just throw it in soup. Does anyone have a good way of cooking it (apart from crisps), or shall I keep it for the soup?

Thank you very much

StuntNun · 03/02/2021 16:37

Spooks my DH says if you fry kale in coconut oil it makes it much easier to scrape the whole lot in the bin. Wink I'm guessing he's not much of a kale fan.

Jollyholibobs · 03/02/2021 17:06

@NotwatchingSpooks I steam it until it is quite tender not al dente and then making sure there’s no water left add butter and chopped garlic and salt. Even my DH who is from the same camp as yours has to admit it’s tasty. Or soften shallots and garlic ( we love garlic omit if you don’t) in olive oil then the kale and enough water to steam till the kale is soft, remove lid to boil off the water add salt, butter or more olive oil and serve. This second version is a favourite of my veg resistant DS. Good luck.

I stopped making enough for DH as he’d turned his nose up but as I have ‘perfected my technique’ AKA started cooking it for longer he started stealing mine!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/02/2021 17:07

Cook it till soft in a small amount of salted, simmering water, drain very well, then purée in a food processor with a LOT of butter. Goes well with roasts. Also works for cabbage and spring greens.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 03/02/2021 17:24

I'd agree with kale and shallots. Works so well. It was pretty much our main use for shallots before I started rejecting the onion.

NotwatchingSpooks · 03/02/2021 17:37

Thank you very much, I will try tonight and report back tomorrow

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/02/2021 18:43

Made the cheeseburger pie for my dinner ( the other 2 had lasagne )
We had the same mince ( my current fave is the turkey thigh mince , 7% fat , ) it meant it wasn’t too much trouble to make different meals
Thought the topping looked a bit dry , checked the recipe and realised I’d forgotten the cream , so I added it for the last 10 minutes and it was fine
Had tons of buttery cabbage on the side .
When I make it again I think I’ll try adding some wilted spinach in the topping

Went out for a long walk this morning as the weather was good , lots of country lanes and just a bit along the A road , around 6.5 kilometres , easily smashed the 10000 steps today !

prettybird · 03/02/2021 18:48

I wonder how many of us had cheeseburger pie this week? Wink

RagzReturnsRebooted · 03/02/2021 19:00

Dinner was 2 sausages (Lidl, about 1% carbs), celeriac braised in stock and cream and cavolo kero (Asda's substitute for kale) which I cooked gently in butter with a pinch of garlic granules.
I put too much stock and not enough cream in the celeriac, but I had already had 2 creamy coffees by then and didn't want to overdo it.
Someone (quite possibly me) knocked over the cream in the fridge earlier, that wasn't fun to clean up.

Hi all, been a bit away with this thread the last 24 hours but just caught up.

Two NSV today, first one was DH told me my face looks thinner already Grin
Second was, period has arrived in full force today BUT i dont feel anywhere near as bloated and sluggish as I usually would be feeling. No temptation to dive into the kids chocolate either Grin

ListenLinda · 03/02/2021 19:08

I’m going to have to give this cheeseburger pie a go! And probably not tell DH what it is until he has eaten it.
He’s a funny one about some of my recipes.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/02/2021 19:09

Well I couldn't manage more than a few bites of my dinner tonight - steak with spicy roasted cauliflower with chorizo - so if that trend continues it'll hopefully help.

StuntNun · 03/02/2021 19:21

I'm getting torn apart over on AIBU tonight. Confused Would anyone like to chip in on the thread so I don't feel as bad? https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amibeing_unreasonable/4155408-my-teenager-ran-up-160-worth-of-calls-on-his-mobile-phone

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 19:27

Awww Stuntnun, you should have skipped AIBU altogether and come here instead! Flowers Flowers it’s honestly horrible when AIBU (usually quite arbitrarily!) turns against you...

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 19:30

Tbh I’d just make your last comment and then hide the thread. It’s just not worth it. Any good advice you’ve had you already know now and no need to stick around getting a load of hassle off people.

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 19:31

Sorry got your name wrong! @StuntNun

StuntNun · 03/02/2021 19:50

It's much worse than I remember from posting in AIBU previously. I don't mind people disagreeing with me and I was expecting some to say I was being unreasonable. But it seems unnecessarily spiteful as if some posters are getting a thrill out of kicking me when I'm down.

Definitelymaybeee · 03/02/2021 19:50

Have been enjoying the discussion on cognitive dissonance and mindful eating - definitely two things that I wish I had known a long time ago.
Woke up hungry so ate breakfast early and have eaten more than normal tonight but all good (Ithink) so hope it's ok.

B - Greek yoghurt, cream and teaspoon of almond butter
L - mushroom soup with more cream
D - portobello mushrooms with halloumi and green salad with lots of dressing and vegan mayo (3.9%), more yoghurt and cream (first time in ages I've had pudding, not sure why I needed it...)
5 pints (water, not beer), 1 builders and 2 herbal teas

Good job I like mushrooms, cream and yoghurt!

Lyrata · 03/02/2021 19:55

I had no idea there were so many people who spent their free time meticulously reviewing terms and conditions on a rolling monthly basis. I’m clearly missing a trick.

I’m also yet to try the cheeseburger pie. But I’m still riding high on how much I liked the celeriac chips so I’m going to wait another week at least. There is (probably) such thing as too much excitement.

I might try and fast tomorrow. It’s weird, when I went to the fasting clinic, I found it really easy but at home I find it impossibly hard. I think it’s being surrounded by my routines and being prompted to eat lunch because what else would one DO with a lunch break.

Food today:
Breakfast: coffee and cream, tomato and cheese salad with olive oil
Lunch: random bit of cheese, yogurt, chicken picked out of a chicken and coconut curry soup (rest thrown away) and microwaved with more yogurt
Dinner: homemade beef “lasagna” with aubergine “pasta” sheets served alongside aubergine, courgette, tomatoes and garlic

Possibly more yogurt later on.

ouchmyfeet · 03/02/2021 19:55

I wouldn't faff about changing things, but just accept that this is week three. It's clearly working for you, so there's no need to change anything. The only thing I would suggest is that you really focus on your electrolytes - have you got hold of a supplement as I think you'd really benefit from one. Get some of this or alternatively make your own - @prettybird makes hers with salt and lemon juice (although I can't remember the quantities)

@BIWI thank you for this, I have ordered some zero tablets. Have tried making my own electrolyte drink but I'm unsure of quantities, it tastes revolting, and it doesn't seem to be working anyway. Am back on my 5 litres of water today so hopefully week 3 will pass successfully.

Is anyone else feeling stuck in a food rut already? I seem to have defaulted to having a mix of fried leeks, mushrooms, courgette and spinach with everything. It's lovely but quite boring after a fortnight. I've just bought some fennel so will roast that tomorrow. I'm missing cherry tomatoes too so may have a couple of those occasionally. I think in need to try to eat less meat, I'm eating far more than when I ate carbs and I don't want to eat so much. Have bought some sea bass this week too so I resolve to eat them with a different FLGV Smile
