Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

For recipes I've just been taking a screenshot from the recipe threads and saving them to a recipe album. I'm going to add the corned beef cannelloni one now

prettybird · 03/02/2021 19:57

My breakfast was cold brussels, lunch a Boursin omelette (while dh and my dad had pizza) and supper (just finished) was Lidl low carb sausages and another big portion of shoogled sprouts (with some left over for "break fast" tomorrow lunchtime Wink).

Off to drink more water Grin

I'll elide shamelessly over the excess snacks of salami and slices of Emmenthal and the 3 squares of 85% chocolate Blush

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 20:03

@StuntNun

It's much worse than I remember from posting in AIBU previously. I don't mind people disagreeing with me and I was expecting some to say I was being unreasonable. But it seems unnecessarily spiteful as if some posters are getting a thrill out of kicking me when I'm down.
I think a lot of people are going stir crazy or half mad or extremely stressed with covid/lockdown/etc and unfortunately it means some people are very very quick to get nasty. I’ve had my arse handed to me on occasion but this is on another level.

I was a bit of a cow (not meaning to, but just a little too combative) on a thread the other day. I always go back to apologise if I catch myself doing that but when I looked for the thread to do so it had been deleted because apparently it really went downhill quick.

ChristMyArse · 03/02/2021 20:13

I think some people are just bellends.. end of!

prettybird · 03/02/2021 20:14

My "electrolyte" drink isn't anything special but seems to work for me Smile

It's just a pint glass of water with a generous shake of Lo-salt (from the pouring spout, not the sprinkling top) and a wee squoosh of lemon juice.

I try to make every second pint glass that way: it also helps me to count how many pints I've had over the day Smile

I wasn't good with my water yesterday Blush - which might explain, with hindsight, why I was suffering from restless legs last night Sad

AWryGiraffe · 03/02/2021 20:18

I hate the sneery tone of AIBU, I think people just get a kick of putting people down in a way they'd never have the guts to do in real life. I don't know why I read it, but I do!

I was a big fan of the celeriac and leek mash, will definitely make that one again. But I think after I've boiled the celeriac I might stick it in the oven for a few mins to make sure there's minimal water left though.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 03/02/2021 20:26

AIBU is really horrible a lot of the time. People lack empathy and insight, and are also fairly good at missing a joke on there.

I've just finished work. Started at 8am, and was on constant meetings until 5pm, did the school run, and then carried on working. I've had nothing to eat and forgot to drink water for most of the day. Argh.

cheeseisthebest · 03/02/2021 20:28

I'm only going to post here now! People can be vicious!

Today I've had -
Fasted until 12, despite waking up starving.
Then had 2 boiled eggs with butter and mayo, a few prawns and some boursin.
Dinner was thai red curry with tofu, peppers, cauliflower rice.
1 creamy coffee, 1 tea and 5 pints of water.
I have not had enough fat or green veg today!

cheeseisthebest · 03/02/2021 20:29

Drank 2 pints of water this morning so staved off hunger and realised wasnt that hungry. I am thinking about having a bit of yoghurt and cream.

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 20:43

@ChristMyArse

Yes, that too! I suppose there’s just more of them with the time to be twats atm.
Dailyhandtowelwash · 03/02/2021 20:46

Are you guys making cauliflower rice from actual cauliflower or buying it ready made?

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 20:53

I don’t particularly like cauliflower rice so don’t have it often but when I do I buy the frozen packets as I don’t like the smell/taste of the fresh packets. I don’t make it myself from a cauliflower head because I’m too lazy and I don’t like the way the little bits of cauliflower seem to get all over the place!

Hopeislost · 03/02/2021 20:57

@Dailyhandtowelwash I buy the Tesco frozen steam bags - less mess!

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 21:00

Tonight’s dinner was a baked sea bass fillet and pak choi with Asian-style glaze/sauce, as well as a couple of cauliflower wedges with soy sauce, sesame oil and chilli flakes.

I’ve not had nearly enough water today.

cheeseisthebest · 03/02/2021 21:08

I buy the frozen ones too, the cupboard ones are horrible!

ouchmyfeet · 03/02/2021 21:12

Same here. Frozen ones from tesco are good
ZiggZagg · 03/02/2021 21:12

I managed to completely fast (unintentionally) until 6.30pm when I then had....steak fajitas, 2 slcr's with peppers and onion, Greek yog and some lc nut/seed mix and a square of dark chocolate Blush

I have drank all my water though!

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/02/2021 21:13

@Dailyhandtowelwash I’ve made fresh cauliflower rice , which tastes much nicer and is less soggy ( especially when pan fried in butter) but the frozen packs from Tesco are much easier !
They gave DH a really dodgy tummy though , he refuses to eat them now

Roast chunks of cauliflower ( or broccoli ) are really good too

My rosacea has really flared up , had the Blepharits ( sp ) on my eye and now my cheeks and nose are really hot and rosy , hope it will go soon , anyone else had this ? Or is it just me
Have googled , may be down to cheese , though I haven’t had a huge amount , will get some nice face cream form Boots ( if I’m allowed in , is Boots essential ? ) or I’ll try the pharmacy in Tesco

LostaraYil · 03/02/2021 21:44

I never knew Tesco did cauliflower rice! This thread is so useful! I must find it and stock up.

oscarandelliesdad · 03/02/2021 21:52

Wow @StuntNun. Some right crabby sods on aibu tonight. I've never looked through my fourteen year old ds's contract.... Dh set it up and I took no interest in it at all Blush. I have a look to check that he's not being groomed/ grooming anyone else or becoming radicalised in any direction but never think about the technical side... would have got my arse handed to me on there aswell. I find aibu really humourless and shrill these days. Not like you lovely lotWink

Oneborneverydecade · 03/02/2021 22:19

I definitely think that AIBU is more vicious than usual during lockdown. The poor poster who ran up £8k debt whilst grieving was absolutely eviscreted.

L: Leek and bacon soup
D: Fajita chicken in lettuce cups, cheese, sour cream

I made mini frangipane cakes using erythritol and almond flour and a single raspberry in each. They were dreadful, really oily. I ate 3?! (only 3g carbs) and binned the rest

venusandmars · 03/02/2021 23:44

@Doilooklikeatourist I get Ivermectin cream (online) for rosacea. But I also use a nivea lip salve (or something similar) for small outbreaks. Really helps to control it, plus with a lip salve you can apply where needed up my nose

StuntNun · 04/02/2021 05:39

Thanks for your support on AIBU, gang, the thread's calmed down now after the positive posts. I only wanted to find out whether I was justified in trying to get the excess phone charges refunded; I wasn't expecting character assassination! Social media seems to be moving to purity spirals with some posters desperate to prove that they are better than everyone else. Like last year when food poverty in the UK was in the spotlight and loads of rich or well-off middle class people lined up to explain how they would be so much better at being poor and could feed a family of 4 on £1 a day. Hmm

I agree with previous posters about the cupboard cauliflower rice being horrid. I prefer the Tesco frozen cauli rice to fresh because it has a more neutral flavour - certainly DH will eat it with a curry and he hates cauliflower normally. Although, if you are making it from fresh it's even nicer with some broccoli as well and goes a lovely colour to boot. As an alternative for curry accompaniments, I've found steamed white cabbage works really well with curry flavours. I slice white cabbage thinly and steam it with water in the microwave (or you could steam it on the hob or boil it) then drain the water off and add plenty of butter, salt and pepper.

There seems to be lots of fasting going on at the moment. BIWI, I'm wondering whether we should have a dedicated thread for combining low carb and fasting so that the conversation doesn't derail this thread. There is a fasting topic on Mumsnet but it's mostly about 5:2 or 16:8 rather than eating low carb or extended fasting. I also don't want people to think that they should be fasting, especially when new to Bootcamp. I didn't even try fasting until well over a year into this Way of Eating and I had no trouble getting to my goal weight without it. However, there are more and more Bootcampers coming in with a history of intermittent fasting and it can be very powerful combined with low carb since there's no need to wait for ketosis to kick in. I saw photos on Facebook yesterday of an older lady who had dramatically reduced the wrinkled skin on her neck through fasting and looked years younger as a result. For me, the biggest benefit is insulin sensitivity so I feel less hungry and I can tolerate more carbs after an extended fast where I usually have to keep carbs very low or I get cravings and more hungry.

MrsOmelette · 04/02/2021 05:45

Morning all, am trying to deal with huge anxiety symptoms so apologies if I lurk or come across abrupt. I’ve not really eaten much at all this last few days, will try harder. Today’s food: L - bacon & mushroom quiche, D - corned beef salad. Tomorrow’s food: L - Mackerel salad, D - chilli. Lots of cuppas, with unsweetened soya milk.

oscarandelliesdad · 04/02/2021 06:40

Morning everyone. @mrsomelette, anxiety is awful Flowers You don't come across as at all abrupt. I need to go shopping today but provisionally:
B - creamy coffee ( finding I'm less hungry I the mornings)
L- scrambled eggs with smoked salmon
D- beef ragu as a taco bowl with salad, avocado, cheese etc. Maybe a salsa to up my vegetables? I'm cautious of all those tomatoes though.... Would be really interested in a fasting discussion thread. I find it fascinating and fast through to three by accident if at work as it just slips my mind to eat.
