Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Also, I've never reacted like that to dairy - I lost three stone on this WOE whilst still eating loads of cheese and cream. Would it really make a difference now?

Dailyhandtowelwash · 03/02/2021 12:51

@BIWI and @StuntNun, thanks. I already find it pretty easy to just do a square of chocolate, so the flakes are just to experiment with something for 'dessert'.

LostaraYil · 03/02/2021 12:55

Thanks @StuntNun, the plan is to try fasting initially one day a week, then maybe ADF if I struggle to get to target weight. I don't have a huge amount to lose so I know it's going to be slow going, but I'm thinking ahead for ways to break through the plateaus.
BIWI, I live near a beach (about 1.5 miles) but last time I drove down there the police were there and told me off and took down my reg number! I don't have time to walk down during the week with my dogs because one is so old and slow it's a 2-3h round trip. Gutted!

StuntNun · 03/02/2021 12:59

Greebo that's a lot of dairy, up to five times a day! I would try limiting it to twice a day and see whether that makes a difference.

VeryLittleOwl · 03/02/2021 13:18

Flowers ChristMyArse and others with health issues - hoping this WOE is helpful for more than just weightloss. I've found I'm a lot less achey, which I assume is something to do with less inflammation from sugar/carbs.

NSV today - I am wearing size 10 knickers and they're not cutting into me Grin

Motivateinmotion · 03/02/2021 13:26

Thanks @BIWI. In regards to the green veg do you literally mean green vegetables eg Brussels, cabbage, greens etc as I had thought it meant those marked green on the spreadsheet so thought salads (lettuce/rocket/cucumber/avocado) counted or the aubergine/courgette in the moussaka for example Blush I do also have green vegetables but maybe not everyday but happy to change to this if I’m doing it wrong.

I have oxo first thing, add salt to cooking and my meals, take magnesium but still feeling cold/the odd headache/ muscle cramps so will buy some electrolyte tablets to try. Appreciate the feedback and support, thank you

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 13:43

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal sorry you’re feeling crabby...I’m the same but I am approaching period week so I know the cause (although tbh in these lovely days of perimenopause my hormones are wreaking merry havoc most of time now...)

Just jumping in to say would it work to have one creamy coffee as your first cup of the day? Usually that works well for me - if I really feel I need something I don’t try to do without it altogether but just have it once a day and really savour it.

Also I know others have already commented but unfortunately your body can have a bit of a problem with lots of cheese & cream when you’re on the smaller side - calories do start to matter and that is a place where they can very quickly add up.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/02/2021 13:51

Gah. Ok. I'll try and cut back on the cream and cheese then. Sad

Food is one of the few things bringing me any pleasure atm, but I know I'll ultimately feel worse if I let myself get overweight again.

venusandmars · 03/02/2021 13:58

Also, around here all the park paths are so muddy because there are so many people that it's actually dangerous to run on them. So I've ended up just walking round the streets

I end up walking round the streets too, I've found the best time is about 5pm, when everyone has put their lights on but haven't yet closed their curtains of blinds, and I can have a good peer in as I walk past nosy git Blush

Didn't have tuna with my salad after all and instead had a cheese and ham 'sandwich'. Butter butter a slice of cheese, top with ham and slices of cucumber, top with another slice of buttered cheese. Cut into quarters. So delicious and refreshing, I felt rather sorry for dh having to put bread round his Grin. Thanks to whoever suggested it. That alongside my half avocado (drizzled with olive oil) and salad with mayonnaise has left me feeling very replete. And ready for another rainy walk!

venusandmars · 03/02/2021 14:04

Twice as much butter spread on that cheese, but that's no bad thing Smile

@Motivateinmotion I think 'yes' to anything green on the chart, and also 'yes' to actual green (or other dark coloured) veg. Lettuce, rocket, cucumber, courgette all have quite a lot of water content. You have to eat a hell of a lot of lettuce to make a really nutrient rich portion. Broccoli, cabbage (green and red), asparagus, cauliflower, sprouts, kale etc are more dense, plus they are all an excellent way to consume even more butter! Variety is the key to getting the nutrition you need.

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 14:05

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal i wouldn’t cut it out altogether. That way sadness lies, and especially if you really, really love food I think it’s important to allow yourself to have some of what you love. Otherwise what’s the point!

I’d start by having one creamy coffee a day, and then cheese at one of your meals only, or every couple of days instead of every day. That way you’re only having a little and you should be okay.

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 14:14

@prettybird what a wonderful photograph! As pp said, it and your comments re: family made me quite emotional. I don’t have any of the Christmas plates but I do have some Royal Copenhagen pieces and love them for the connection to home.

@bestbees yes I generally weigh up (mentally, not literally) what type of veg I’m eating in a day and try to make sure it’s well balanced overall in terms of carbs. My rationale is that I will happily eat any vegetable that’s available to me, because I like as wide a range of nutrients as possible, but I’ll generally skip fruit and stick to berries (and only have those here and there). I also don’t go out of my way to buy/eat the more carby veg but if there’s a particular dish that I or my DH fancy then I’ll have a bit as long as I’m careful.

Your idea to cook up the beetroot and freeze is a good one - that way nothing goes to waste and you can use it here and there without having to eat loads at once.

@ChristMyArse (and others who are feeling unwell) Flowers Flowers Hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel for each of you before too long.

cheeseisthebest · 03/02/2021 14:16

I've cut out cheese this week and it seems to have helped.
Thank you BIWI for such encouraging words. Smile

Motivateinmotion · 03/02/2021 14:27

Thanks @venusandmars noted! Will be stocking up better at my next shop (hoping Aldi finally have some of these as they’ve been a little sparse lately)

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 14:29

Lunch today was a three egg omelette with soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger and garlic granules. Topped with pak choi, carrot, red and yellow pepper, and spring onion. Chilli flakes and sesame seeds scattered over.

I don’t know what I’m going to make for dinner...

RagzReturnsRebooted · 03/02/2021 14:37

Afternoon all. I made the most amazing salad for lunch when I got home from vaccinating and just have to share a photo.
It's mixed salad leaves, spring onion, chorizo slices (air fried until crispy!), goats cheese, boiled egg, olives and mayo. Absolutely divine! DH was quite jealous.
Had creamy coffee for breakfast as I didn't have time for more, but was fine until lunch and not even slightly tempted by all the cakes in the clinic. Two black coffees and I am on my 3rd pint of water but that will go up this afternoon. Ordered electrolyte tablets (Zero ones are £3.99 on Amazon and cheaper still if you subscribe) as I've got a slight headache and want something to boost my water at work.

@BIWI no I have not forgotten the recipe thread, I plan to go through it and add the ones I fancy to my app!

I haven't added myself to the spreadsheet as I'm weighing in kilos this time. I'm too emotionally attached to stones and pounds after regaining all 50lbs I'd lost doing this years ago. Writing my weight in lbs again will just make me feel sad for now, so I'm embracing the kilo as I don't know what my lightest weight was in kilos! I know that sounds silly.

Ninkanink · 03/02/2021 14:44

Flowers @RagzReturnsRebooted I know what you mean about stones and lbs. I weigh in kg, being Danish it’s what I’m used to, so there are two of us using that unit! I do translate over to lbs for the purposes of the spreadsheet, but otherwise I always work in kilos.

Your lunch looks fantastic!

Ratherchillyinhere · 03/02/2021 14:47

There generally isnt enough of what you need in electrolyte tablets.

Pink or rock salt and magnesium is really what you need.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 03/02/2021 14:48

Hi everyone. I'm looking to join please. I've been reading over the threads and familiarising myself with the rules over the last few days and I'm ready to start tomorrow. Will weigh in the morning and add myself to the spreadsheet. Hoping to have a bit more energy and lose around 2 stone. I did Atkins 10 years ago for my wedding and felt great so hopefully I'll have the same energy this time around.

Have meal planned for the week and doing shopping tomorrow. I'm having a few glasses of wine tonight as I've had a really horrible week of night shifts and will draw a line and start tomorrow. The information and spreadsheet on this topic is fantastic I really appreciate all the work that has gone into it! Looking forward to getting started.

cheeseisthebest · 03/02/2021 14:55

Just put salt on my tongue and it tasted nice so does mean I'm low in salt?
I add loads to my food.

pinkpinkeverywhere · 03/02/2021 15:10

Welcome @BustleInYourHedgerow
My first time doing this WOE (get me with the lingo after 2 1/2 weeks Wink) and I've lost a stone, still got a long way to go, especially as I'm short, but finding this thread very supportive.
A good idea people said at the start was to take photos of yourself in something a bit too small and then take them again every so often, so you can see a real life improvement. Also to take your measurements. I've done both and my second photo after 2 weeks already showed the button and hole edging closer together!

Thank you everyone for the advice around the gift.

I love having your guidance @BIWI it's like having a 1-2-1 coach, very much what I need. I really hope I stay on track this time.

AWryGiraffe · 03/02/2021 15:28

Lunch today was yummy, fried aubergine, mushroom, courgette and spinach with garlic and butter, and a fried egg on top.

Dinner will be something... with celeriac and leek mash, tenderstem broccolj cabbage.

I'm sure I must be eating loads of carbs with all this veg! I do love veg though 😊

But all those are low carb veg! (And who could ever say there would ever be anything wrong with eating plenty of veg?!)
