Morning all.

We've completed our ten weeks - and I can see from the Spreadsheet just how well it's gone!

But just because the ten weeks are up, doesn't mean we have to stop. So here's a bright, shiny new chat thread for us to keep chatting and supporting each other.

We're having duck confit tonight. There's a great company CSP foods that used to supply meat/fish/deli products to restaurants, that now do home delivery to London and some Southern postcodes. Next day delivery too, which is very impressive.

I ordered 2 packs of the confit by mistake Blush and there are 6 duck legs in each, so we'll be eating a fair amount of that over the next few weeks I think!

My veg box has Leeks and celeriac today. So I need the recipe for Leeks and celeriac Mash. How many leeks? Do you blend the leeks too or just the celeriac and add butter-cooked-Leeks and stir them in?

teethiepegs · 05/01/2021 17:56

I'm new here! Signed up to Bootcamp for the 11th, but I've been low carbing since Jan 1st. I have just over two stone to lose.

Today has been...

Chocolate protein powder (low carb one obvs) with almond milk and coffee.

Chaffle with a beef burger.

Two Lincolnshire sausages with cauli rice done in goose fat. Mustard mayo on the side.

For one celeriac (assuming it's a reasonable size, and not the tennis ball-sized one Sainsbury's sent me a couple of weeks ago Hmm) I'd use 2-3 leeks, depending on their size. If they're big fat ones, use two.

Boil the celeriac till tender, but don't boil the leeks, as they will make the mash too watery. Instead, slice and pan fry them in butter.

When the celeriac is tender, drain and leave them in the colander/sieve till they have steamed dry. Then mix the leeks and celeriac together and blend with a hand blender.

Hi guys, I started low carb yesterday in preparation for the next boot camp. I have 2.3 stone to lose.

Yesterday I had 1.5 salmon fillets with Philadelphia cheese and cucumber. For dinner I had steak fried in butter with mushrooms and shallots with cauliflower cheese and broccoli.

Today I’ve had Greek yogurt for breakfast, 2 chicken thighs for lunch and chicken tikka masala with cauliflower rice for dinner.

I’m cheating at the minute, I’m still having sugar in my coffee and tea but as I said I’m just starting the transition for now, I’ll give the tea and coffee up when boot camp starts. I do feel better but it’s bloody hard knowing there is almost a full tub of roses in the cupboard from Christmas!!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 05/01/2021 18:25

It’s so supportive to pop in and have a read of posts by you lovely lot ... I’m another one struggling today with awful wine/chocolate/crisps/anything inappropriate cravings that usually disappear quite quickly but tonight keep recurring, but reading all the ideas for distraction will keep me grounded.
Either that or I’m off to bed at 6.24pm Grin

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 05/01/2021 18:29

Oh and a question please that I know has been answered before but I can’t find.
I want to replace the meat in some meals and am looking for low carb alternatives. What’s considered the upper limit for 100g’s worth? There’s a kind of kebab meat in Sainsbury’s which is 5.5g of carb per 100g, I assume that’s ok? The whole pack would be under 10g.

Why?

And what do you mean about 'a kind of kebab meat'? That sounds horribly processed - and actually quite a lot of carbs to add to your day!

@BIWI because essentially I’m feeling less and less happy about eating animals. I was vegetarian for many years when I was younger, gave it up when I lived abroad where it was a difficult choice, and would now like to go back to a more cruelty-free way of eating. Even choosing free range, organic meat and eggs involves accepting a degree of this which I’m less and less happy with.

The product I’m referring to is a soya protein seasoned with herbs and spices. Can you suggest any good non-meat protein sources?

I have a vegan friend who has done low carb in the past - just messaged her, and she apparently relies on tofu and beyond meat products, which are about 3g carb per 100. Seeds and nuts and protein powder also supplement it apparently, though I know that's not advised on strict bootcamp. Are you looking for vegan or veggie meals?

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 05/01/2021 20:27

@IncurablyCurious thanks for that, not vegan no, although I have great respect for those that are as I think it requires so much work.

BIWI · 05/01/2021 20:49

@Ifeelmuchlessfat

Sorry - not really! I'm not a veggie/vegan, so don't have much experience of meat substitutes. The only thing I'd say is to be careful what you choose in the end. First because they are more carby than meat, and secondly they're often very highly processed, so don't really fit with what we're trying to do on Bootcamp.

Anyone have any doner kebab tips? The home made flavours are great but all of the fat cooks out leaving the kebab dry and crumbly. I don't suppose there is any LC equivalent of the carbs in sausages/kebabs etc which hold the fat in a bit?! 🤔

Laska2Meryls · 05/01/2021 22:03

Brassica this Ottolenghi recipe is my favourite, you add extra fat.. it really works

Lyrata · 05/01/2021 22:07

BIWI that website looks great. The bavette steaks are about half the price of the ones at my butcher and it’s already an economical cut!

Good motivation to actually eat some of the food in my freezer so I can treat myself to a bulk order!

venusandmars · 05/01/2021 22:30

@teethiepegs I think you need more veg... As per a previous post - most of your carbs on this way of eating (woe) should come from healthy veg - broccoli, asparagus, aubergine, spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, lettuce, avocado, cucumber, celeriac, swede..... etc.

I aim for 1 or 2 portions of veg at breakfast, then 2 at lunch, plus 2 at dinner.

It might be spinach and cheese for breakfast, egg mayonnaise and salad for lunch, and steak with buttered veg for dinner.

BIWI · 06/01/2021 00:02

Sorry @teethiepegs I missed your post earlier!

@venusandmars is right - there's nowhere near enough veg in your day.

On Bootcamp your carbs should come mainly from vegetables and salad - and it's non-negotiable! You've eaten hardly any today, and you won't be getting very good nutrition from what you have had as a result.

Did you make the burgers yourself? If you didn't, do you know what the ingredients are? If not home-made, then along with the sausages make your day a bit high in processed food as well.

Do you normally not eat breakfast? We're not really supposed to use things like meal replacement shakes because - again - you're adding more processed food into your day. Bootcamp is (as well as being low carb) about eating food that's as natural and unprocessed as we can!

I’m new here and struggling with cravings. Have been low carb high fat since August but tried a few Christmas treats and can’t give them up. Need to work on my mindset today. Had a good day on Monday but yesterday I just didn’t stop eating and once I’d stuffed myself with cheese I moved onto chocolate and Christmas cake. Today is a new day and I plan to stay low carb.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/01/2021 08:28

Good morning all.
Been struggling with this since Christmas - too much leftover food, so last night I binned all the Christmas cake and Florentines so now I'm forced to not cheat since it's too cold to go shopping Grin
I'm not going to weigh myself until I've managed a whole week without slip ups am too scared. Well done to everyone who has lost their Christmas weight.

Pleaseandthankyou · 06/01/2021 08:39

After going mad over Christmas food wise I had put on half a stone. I stepped on the scales this morning I have lost 5lbs since Monday. I can’t believe it. I have been low carbing but have been eating pate and Boursin by the spoonful through boredom and the stress of running a business through a pandemic. My goal is to lose another stone. That will take me to a normal bmi. At my age I don’t think my face could take anymore. The biggest challenge (apart from avoiding the dreaded Rona) will be to stay off alcohol. A glass of wine is a great way to relax after a stressful day. Thankful I am not homeschooling. To those who are, just do your best. You cannot do everything. Do what you can. Also try to set some time aside just to smile and cuddle your children. It’s a privilege that disappears very quickly. When everything gets too much I try to do those breathing exercises they used to teach you many years ago in labour. Sit down and concentrate on breathing out slowly, you will always remember to breathe in . Then make yourself a cup of tea.

teethiepegs · 06/01/2021 09:39

I do usually eat way more veg than that, I was treating myself to a burger!

Again, the shake is not a usual part of my diet, just a coping mechanism while I ease myself in.

Today is a more usual day (I don't eat breakfast...never any time, I'm homeschooling four right now!)

Lunch is pork shoulder with salad and mayo.

Dinner is pork shoulder with cauliflower cheese (a keto recipe).

I'm also not a snacker!

NotwatchingSpooks · 06/01/2021 10:19

CardoMondo welcome, I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will come along shortly, but I wanted to say, you Must drop the sugar in your tea, as this WOE (way of eating) is not at all forgiving.

So if you up your fats as you have, you really must drop the sugar and other carbs or you WILL GAIN Weight. I think of it as the sugar having a chemical reaction with the fat to turn into fat in your body. It is bizarre as you definitely need the fat in your diet to loose the fat in your body, but add in any carbs and it all goes awry.

Shagmeriggins Lovely to have you back, I’m looking forward to reading your posts as they often lift my spirits. I’ve been reading other boards on here and none are as nice. I did smile at the poster on another board, on Monday, who commented on the announcement (And all that entailed) that there was going to be another press conference with, “but I don’t drink on Mondays”.😂

BIWI thanks for the link, I will have a look.

I’m now virtually back to my pre Christmas weight, which puts me at a BMI of about 25.9, I’m so grateful for all our pre Christmas chats and especially Stuntnun advice as it sort of repeated in my head over the festivities.

I was asked earlier this week if I had any New Year resolutions, in the midst of all the lockdown announcements, I had not put much thought to it. Having thought about it, mine is to be more healthy, so that means I need to loose another at least another half stone to a stone on this bootcamp as I am aiming at a BMI in the 24s.

Food wise I found that I was okay until I got to mid afternoon yesterday, and then I really, really, really wanted something totally non bootcamp, I kept BIWI “easing in” in my head and had a load of almonds as I figured it would be better than cake . My plan for today is to try a decaf coffee with a Tsp of double cream and to up the fat in my lunch. As venusandmars said it is really difficult if you are someone who likes to be busy and you use this as a tool to be distracted from food.

Todays meal plan
B Greek yogurt
L homemade cauliflower soup with cold ham on top and some extra butter in the soup
D Beef casserole with flgv

3 coffees, Teapig teas and water

Takingontheflab · 06/01/2021 10:41

Sigh. I'm back up to 180 on the scales. God this is so hard when life is hard. I wish it could be just a leeeetle more forgiving.

Feeling a bit lost but determined to keep trying.

StuntNun · 06/01/2021 10:53

Jolly carb cravings could mean your carb intake is still too high or you need to up your fat intake. Can you list out 2-3 days of food so we can offer advice.

MrsHunt when I'm struggling I take the batteries out of the scales to avoid temptation. Sometimes you're better off not knowing.

What can you do today to improve things for yourself Taking?

Don't keep trying, keep doing!

(Sorry - sounds a bit trite I know, but it's important. This WOE isn't very forgiving, but ultimately it is so much better for you)
