Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6 already!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for its weekly outing.

Don't forget to check out all the different resources on the spreadsheet - it's a huge mine of information.

We are now past the half way point - so only 5 more weeks to go until we get to Christmas! Shock

But that means there's still time to lose a good chunk of weight, if we all knuckle down and get on with it.

Flowers to us all!

My apologies if my low carb brexit planning triggers anxieties for anyone. For me it feels like a long-term commitment to this woe, and planning for that.

You know what, 20bloodypounds, I actually appreciated it. A thoughtful post with good ideas for organising, which someone like me needs.

Not only will that sort of looking ahead help us all to deal with whatever Brexit issues there might be around the food supply (and I, for one, hope it will be similar to the Y2K panic, ie, it really was a tempest on a teapot), but it is also a really good idea to think about having great, long life LCHF food in stock post-holidays.

I’m sure many of us are planning to veer off course a bit at Christmas and possibly New Year. Some might be making a “season” of it, some might be happy to go off piste for a day or two, some might be happy to maintain clear LCHF rules throughout.

If nothing else, having the right foods in will help eliminate excuses. I would hate to undo my work on October Bootcamp by getting a case of the Christmas Party Brexit Covid Fuck It’s then have to start all over again in January or February having gained back what I lost.

So thank you.

Had the longest day today - work is relentless, however NSV so 30inches on the tape measure this morning!! measured my waist when I started and was 32 so a solid 2 inches off in 6 weeks I am quite happy with. Tried on the levis - won't post a picture , will spend a lot of this weekend wondering how I ever got into them!!!

Food today has been:
B - cheese and spinach omelette
L - Rocket, Celery, spring onion, crispy bacon salad with blue cheese, mayo and cream mooshed together as a dressing.
D - Cheeseburger Pie and FLGV
W - 4 liters
Coffee - 2

Cannot believe its only 4:40pm I feel it should be closet to 8pm - I have to make the CHeesburger Pie - and just remembered the mince is still in the freezer - cannot believe I didn't take it out the freezer. May have steak (which is in fridge for tomorrow) so all Ok will have tomorrow's dinner tonight and tonights's dinner today - so steak, creamy leeks and shoogled sprouts.

IF anyone has actually read the above - I apologise - it is literally my actual thoughts typed out!!

plumstone · 20/11/2020 16:48

Having read that back - I would like to clarify that its tonight's dinner tomorrow - I won't eat two dinners. Grin I mean I could, but that's an issue for another thread!!

ShagMeRiggins · 20/11/2020 17:03

You’re cracking me laugh, plum. Enjoy your meal.

Takingontheundead · 20/11/2020 19:31

Have also been thinking about brexit impact on diet. Last lockdown food shortage meant v carb heavy food.

Gonna order an outside freezer i think as our kitchens f/f is crap.

Dinner tonoght. Tumeric cauli rice, tikka chicken, wilted spinach, yogurt with cucumber

MrsKoala · 20/11/2020 19:48

I agree. Last lockdown I lived on crappy bread and put on a stone. I don’t want that to happen again. Weird thing is it was quite easy to get fresh veg. Meat was a challenge at the beginning, but got better after a couple of weeks. It was bread, pasta, flour, biscuits and rice that we couldn’t get and yet I seemed to be eating it everyday, Confused not sure how I managed that!

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/11/2020 20:09

Long lockdown was if we were on an all inclusive holiday !
Self employed , couldn't work , next to no income , meant we were like headless chickens panicking for the first week , then thought ok , we've got this unexpected time off ... and the weather was nice .. a cold beer or glass of wine on the patio ... Mars bar icecream in the freezer as we couldn't go anywhere .... put on over a stone
It's so easy to put the weight on , much trickier to lose it states the obvious

NigellaAwesome · 20/11/2020 20:17

Ooh, Brexit planning. I honestly had not given this any thought at all, although I really have no idea how, as even today I was told that my organisation's Brexit team are moving into our office .

There has just been so much else to preoccupy us - Covid, US Election, lockdown Hmm, cats falling off pianos on Youtube...

I will need to have a think about what, if any, things I will try to freeze. Of course, if we were in France we would just be stocking up on tins of duck confit and pate, but then, if we were in France we would not be contemplating Brexit. There is still part of me that thinks it won't really happen. I have no idea why though, that's not really grounded in reality.

MrsKoala · 20/11/2020 20:17

I put on a stone in just 3 weeks Shock

Takingontheundead · 20/11/2020 20:28

Weirdly ms koala we had been vegetarian for 18mo prior to 1st lockdown. We couldn't access enough fresh veg or beans/pulses etc and ended up back on meat.

Hopeislost · 20/11/2020 20:39

It's very strange contrasting the first lockdown with now. I think I ate an Easter egg every day for about 3 weeks! I haven't eaten any chocolate since the start of the last bootcamp (end of May?).

Lyrata · 20/11/2020 20:43

Yes I also disgraced myself during lockdown one. Nice how chocolate was always abundantly available.

I am considering a freezer, but my life is very up in the air right now. I’m thinking of waiting to see if there are any good Black Friday deals. If I can get one for under £80 then I think I will.

My current freezer is already full. I make myself low carb ‘ready meals’ - you can buy the little silver tin dishes with the paper lids in the supermarket and then bake them straight in the oven. I have about 20 low carb lasagnas and moussaka. I also have frozen spinach, parmesan and chorizo. In terms of store cupboard supplies, I have stocked up on a lot of olives and chopped tinned tomatoes (as well as coconut milk just in case).

www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2019/aug/13/how-a-no-deal-brexit-threatens-your-weekly-food-shop

There is a useful article here showing which foods are primarily imported from the EU - although sadly if some stuff is totally unavailable then even stuff grown in the UK may well run short as people buy what is available.

ShagMeRiggins · 20/11/2020 21:14

Well let’s make sure we are focussing on buying frozen/tinned/long shelf life LCHF foods and condiments so we can continue our healthy way of eating.

Forget Beezon, forgot the holidays.

Let’s plan and prepare for our weight loss/maintenance goals!

prettybird · 20/11/2020 21:22

Neeps store well and are cheap in winter Grin

Mimosa1 · 20/11/2020 21:41

Hi everyone,

Food today was

B - seriously low carb bread roll and butter
L - egg tomato and lettuce salad, cheese , celery, and more seriously LC bread
D - roast duck, salad, half a roast potato (celebration dinner) and LC chocolate mousse.

It was a celebratory dinner at the end of a very long week, but delicious and not too bad carb wise considering.

I briefly saw 70.0 kg on the scales this am so hope I can keep it going til Monday. Have a good weekend all!

VeryLittleOwl · 21/11/2020 08:31

I cracked and had a poppadum last night, but the rest of the takeaway was butter chicken with a side of vegetable curry, so not too bad. Shoogled sprouts with homemade pesto for lunch.

Today is lunch out, so probably another chicken salad unless they've got something I can eat on the specials board, and then supper's going to be celeriac chips and shoogled sprouts with melted cheese over the top.

MrsKoala · 21/11/2020 09:04

I have to ask - what are shoogled sprouts? I keep seeing them mentioned here. I’ve googled it but nothing comes up.

prettybird · 21/11/2020 09:10

"Shoogled sprouts" are just my patented microwaved sprouts in butter. It came from my technical description of shoogling them in the middle of the process Grin

Not surprised you couldn't find it on Google Grin

Lyrata · 21/11/2020 09:28

I have just done my weekly food shop for £30 in Lidl.

My meals will include:

  • Salmon with a black olive tapenade on a bed of red and yellow tomatoes, fennel, pepper and onion
  • chicken sausages with baked aubergine, courgette and feta
  • creamy cauliflower soup topped with fried chorizo and truffle oil
  • chicken thighs baked with chorizo, feta, peppers, onion, aubergine and feta
  • Chicken and feta stuffed peppers on a bed of wilted spinach with cream stirred through

And potentially some scrambled eggs with feta and vegetables or freezer moussaka if I run out - but given the conversations around Brexit I am loathe to touch my freezer supplies.

I’m doing an egg fast today.

MrsKoala · 21/11/2020 10:27

Grin thank god I didn’t ask someone! So what to you do with them? I’ve got a few bags from Aldi as they were in their super 6.

prettybird · 21/11/2020 10:39

Prepare brussels. Put in bowl with a generous slab of butter. Put plate on top of bowl and microwave for two minutes. Shoogle Wink Microwave for another c.two minutes (depends on strength of microwave and how many you're doing). Season generously with salt & pepper and stir.

Enjoy Smile

MrsKoala · 21/11/2020 12:05

Thanks. I’ll give it a go.

I’m going to ask for some sartorial advice. Hope you don’t mind. I bought this dress in the Black Friday sales. I like it but I have 2 issues with it. As I’ve gone down to 12 in dresses now I’ve noticed the arms and lengths are getting smaller along with the sizes. Problem 1 is the sleeves which are too short to have down, so will need rolling up - not a big problem as it’s a bit prison uniform with them down and I’m planning some bright colour long sleeve turtlenecks underneath which will sow quite nicely to the wrist. The second more concerning issue is that the waist on the dress is a little short and I need to pull the belt down which you can see pulls down on the loop at the back slightly and bunches up the material a bit.

I am planning it with thick tights and deep red knee high riding boots.

Do you think it’s worth keeping or sending back?

This is how they’ve styled it. Which is how I would wear it too.

BIWI · 21/11/2020 12:15

I think you need the expert advice of @ShagMeRiggins!

It depends what occasions you're planning on wearing it, I think. But also I have to say, purely from my point of view (and I don't have much sartorial elegance!) I don't think it's very flattering on you.
