Week 5 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all Flowers

This week sees the end of the first half of Bootcamp. The last two weeks may have been tough going, as you might have seen weight loss slow or even stop.

But this has been an important transition period, as your body has been switching from burning carbs for fuel, to burning fat. So from now on, the weight loss you will see will be entirely fat. And hopefully from week 5, you should see the scales showing a weekly loss too!

By now, hopefully, you have also have become a bit more accustomed to low carb eating, so that it's becoming a bit more of a habit. Once things are habitual, it's a lot easier to stick with things, as they're more routine.

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for this week's 'confession'!

You always present your food so nicely Taking!
Congratulations on the size 12!

Oneborneverydecade · 13/11/2020 17:29

Great nsv @takingontheundead!

Thank you @itsmeagainagain I'll check them both out. I've paid more attention to our finances today than I have in years - I was silly to wing it for so long

Here's my squidgy fat. It's going to take a hell of a whoosh to make a dent in that! Grin

NoraEphronsNeck · 13/11/2020 17:32
@Oneborneverydecade please don't apologise for detailing the thread, you've had a horrendous shock. I hope you and DH are able to come up with a plan so you feel more in control. Sorry this had happened.

Does anyone else sort of go jiggly before a woosh? Where the fat seems less "dense" for want of a better word? My tummy has gone all wobbly and I think it means a woosh is in the offing, at least I hope so and I'm not totally deluding myself!
Yes I have the feeling that my body is more wiggly just before losing a definite 3-4lbs but not when it is a steady decline of 1lb 🙅‍♀️

I itch. Badly. Have had hardly any sleep. On the plus side it might mean I’m shrinking ?? Grin

Re low carb meals when eating out ... where I work we often get asked to swap things around and almost always oblige , I mean I did get asked for some beetroot once and it just doesn’t exist on our menu so would not have any in the building - that was a hard one!
But say two dishes look like

Burger and chips with house salad
Eggs florentine with wilted spinach and hollandaise

You could make - burger and house salad , with wilted spinach instead of chips and some hollandaise instead of the bun.

That sort of thing. It depends on the menu obv but in a restaurant kitchen not much is ‘assembled’ until they get your order so it should be pretty easy to swap sides from one dish to another or even make up a salad from various veg that exist on say 3 different dishes. I appreciate some places might be harder than others ... just before I was a chef it would of not crossed my mind to do this and it’s amazingly common people should not worry about trying. Every now and again I cook for a fellow low carber and have a secret smile to myself like we know the secret to the universe or something Grin

Am struggling with Ping Pong Pound. Literally losing and gaining the same pound. It’s very annoying. I don’t know what I need to do to kick it and at least play the same game with a different pound a little lower down the scales. A small thing in the scheme of things.

EarlGreyHot · 13/11/2020 18:06

@Takingontheundead

I'm wearing size 12 active wear today. Size 12! Size 18 was pushing it in June.

Also here's my dinner, sorry to bore again but its keeping me safe posting daily. Everyone else currently eating mcd's. Burgers are 5g carbs for both. X

Woohoo! What a fantastic NSV, really well done Grin
ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 13/11/2020 18:32

Argh help anyone?!

DH has ordered me a mixed kebab and I'm having it without bread just salad and sauce but it's come with very little chicken and lamb but mounds of Doner meat. Does anyone know if this is a massive no as I'm bloody starving and haven't been food shopping.

Thanks

prettybird · 13/11/2020 18:38

As far as I am aware, donner meat should be fine. It's just layers of (spiced?) meat - no carby fuller involved.

ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 13/11/2020 18:40

Found this..... so I'm eating it!

Thanks @prettybird Grin

Sorry should have actually attached the picture Wink

Keto itch is a 'thing' I'm afraid! It could mean that your carbs are too low. Try increasing them for a day or so and see if that helps.

@NorthOfAmazing

That's very true about the restaurants/kitchens - IME, it's usually chain-type places where they won't oblige here, because so much of their food is pre-prepared/ordered in.

@BuffyTheBuffetSlayer well done for getting your assignment in on time! Loads of luck for the rest of your degree. I keep toying with the idea of a PGCE but never have the guts to go for it, so good for you! And likewise to the other students on the thread.

GorgeousGoldies · 13/11/2020 18:59

Nothing to do with low carb, but I remember DH trying to order a mixed grill without black pudding in restaurant once - the waiter dutifully went off to the kitchen to find out if this was possible, and returned to tell him that sadly it couldn’t be done as it came as a pre-made frozen pack Grin

That reminds me a Wetherspoons kitchen when I was on student placement .... someone wanted a fried egg but couldn’t understand why there would be poached one available but not fried ... I’m afraid many places produce centrally now and just reheat everything. If it’s cheap , there’s a reason. No knocking cheap as I can see it has a place but theres often a factory style processing plant on a remote business estate producing your cheap meal and not a trained cheap in the back room. Often the best thing you can ever have anywhere is steak as it’s impossible to precook/pre prepare so even Wetherspoons has a grill amongst a sea of microwaves for this purpose.
NorthOfAmazing · 13/11/2020 19:10

Trained chef that should say , typing too fast Grin

BIWI · 13/11/2020 19:26

So very true, and very sad @NorthofAmazing. Like places where their omelettes come frozen

OP posts:
NorthOfAmazing · 13/11/2020 19:42

An omelette literally takes 2 minutes to cook .. but then if everything just needs reheating nobody has to pay chef rates ( as poor as they are , they are still higher than unskilled workers ) cooking is definitely a skill that will be lost in future generations me thinks 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jdhshekr · 13/11/2020 19:43

Ohhhhh, I’ve been getting seriously itchy palms on and off since I started eating low carb - I guess that explains it. Now, would there be any reason for me feeling dizzy all the time? It’s not hunger - hunger faintness is a completely different feeling to this.

GorgeousGoldies · 13/11/2020 19:44

Agree re the ‘trained’ chef - my nephew started as a pot washer in a microwave place and was head chef within a couple of years, at the age of about 18. He literally didn’t know how to cook a single thing (other than a steak).

He then went for an interview at a proper restaurant and pretty much was laughed out of the door. It’s such a sad situation. You’d be far better off buying a ready meal (crap one at that) and staying at home.

Thank you, was almost tempted to weigh today but I will not. Just taking one day at a time, meal by meal. Focus on that only right now.

Will weigh in december sometime. X

NorthOfAmazing · 13/11/2020 20:21

@Takingontheundead congrats on the NSV you sound like you’ve come a long way, you must be so proud Flowers

@Totalshambles arrrgh same here , ping pong pound ! Annoying isn’t it. I’ve kept my eye on the carbs this past week and made reductions where I could and now I ITCH!! Thanks for explaining @BIWI I thought it must be related somehow Grin
