2020 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp. The first week!

Welcome all.

Well what a strange year this has been! If you're anything like me, food, meals and eating have been all over the place. And that's before we think about the booze.

I found lockdown an odd mix of feeling like I was on holiday but it was also the end of the world. So what was the point of worrying about my diet?

I am lucky, relatively, in that we don't have small children to worry about educating. We also have a nice house and garden, and as me and DH have recently retired, don't have to worry about work. So we were very much advantaged over many people.

But still, the diet/drinking was all to pot. And with the inevitable result.

So we're now in the run up to Christmas - traditionally a time when diets go out of the window, and we start to indulge ourselves. Who knows what's going to happen this year though?!

So with that in mind, it's a good time to try and be focused and aim to have a bit of discipline! This Bootcamp, as with most others, will last for 10 weeks, which will take us right up to Christmas week.

(I truly hope that we'll all be able to spend Christmas with our loved ones, but who knows?)

With grateful thanks to @AthelstaneTheUnready, here is the Spreadsheet of Exceptional Fabulousness .

You should find that you're on the spreadsheet. A couple of things:

  • if you don't want to record your weight every week, that's absolutely fine. Just don't do it!
  • if you're not on it, just add your name to the bottom - don't try and re-alphabatize it - we'll sort it out later

The spreadsheet isn't just a place to record your weight though - have a good look at it, and the tabs - there's loads of information on there, including a veg carb counter and lots of stuff about low carbing in general. You'll also find Bootcamp rules there.

Exactly @Anotherducker I am going to be that sugar- holic who can't even have the one sweet. It's all or nothing. @1WildTeaParty that's true sugar makes you want more and then more sugar.
Today went well, Greek yog for breakfast, sausages for lunch and then ham for dinner. I did eat peas before I realized how carby they are but I did not have the potatoes, Yorkshire's or stuffing so I reckon the goodness is veg is okay. I am not (hopefully going to crave peas anytime soon)
@ShagMeRiggins that looks delicious! Will put it on my menu this week. It's the weather for it.
@StuntNun does the coconut oil in the coffee change the flavor in any way? Thinking it may make it more like a fancy coffee. I drink black coffee no sugar anyway but maybe the coconut oil would make it into a little more of a treat instead of an essential to keep me going.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow everyone!

enjoyed reading everyones dinners lots of inspiration for next weeks meal. I've had a good weekend including lunch with some friends Friday. Had a lovely salad with chicken breast, avocado, bacon and parmesan cheese and added lots of mayo. Excited to weigh in tomorrow morning!

@SailingandSauvignon

Hello - I know it is a week in, but may I join. I got on the scales this morning as my clothes have become very snug (my bra feels like it's biting in) and I have gained 10 lbs, and I was at the very top of my healthy weight before. I feel dumpy + lumpy and embarrassed about how I look. I Have read the thread + the FAQs and am ready to give it a go, but also a bit trepidatious (in case i just never stop eating and gaining weight). I eat chicken + fish but not other meats, and I am a bit confused re cheese and what can be had. Also, I am 47 and pretty sure I am peri menopausal - has anyone still had success with bonkers hormones? Thank you Smile
Of course you can join!

If you follow the rules, you shouldn't feel hungry and you should lose weight!

No need for confusion re cheese. You can eat it, just don't go mad for it.

And lots of us have had success with the perimenopause.

So just 'get on down' and join us! Flowers

Well done @NorthOfAmazing that's a fab loss.

I've had a better day appetite-wise and managed:
B: scrambled eggs
L: hm creamy roast cauliflower and mushroom soup
D: slow cooked beef brisket (stock based rather than bbq) with very soft broccoli

I need more veg but am supposed to stick to soft foods and avoid anything crunchy or chewy for another few days.

Got a food delivery coming tomorrow and I'm excited to cook some of the recipes people have been enjoying on here when I'm able. Particularly excited for the truffle mayo!

Good luck to all those weighing in tomorrow. I'm not going to as I'm still pretty swollen (and constipated from the morphine!) but I will definitely drop in to see how you all get on!

Had a fabulous low carb, cheesy courgette lasagne tonight (uses ricotta mixed with egg, mozarella and Parmesan rather than a white sauce) tonight. I'd also blitzed a load of veg (shallots, leeks, carrots) into a soffrito as a base for the ragu so the dish was FLFV (Fuck Load Full of Veg) Halo

Forgot to take a picture of the finished product, but there's load left over for me for the next 2 or 3 nights. In fact dh has complained, as there's probably only 1, maybe 1.5 portions left of the "pasta" half of the dish Wink

I've also got some ragu left over that I froze - enough for 2 bolognaise portions. Dh can have his with spaghetti and I'll have a thinly sliced courgette fried in butter.

prettybird · 18/10/2020 23:49

...and I was able to watch dh and my dad finish the meal with my homemade ice cream, served with Maltesers Halo

And had water while they drank wine! Halo

@BasicMadeira some coconut oils have more flavour than others - the KTC brand is pretty tasteless so it depends what you're looking for.

I think KTC is on offer in Aldi this week - in the centre aisle rather than with their own coconut oil. I'm 99% sure it was KTC when I saw it

DiscontentedWoman · 19/10/2020 06:54

I did a bit of a riff on Delia's braised celery with cheese and onion sauce yesterday - I tweaked by using creme fraiche instead of making the white sauce, and then I put rings of shallot all over the top which went crispy and dark and lush. It needed way longer cooking than I gave it. I shall blitz the remainder into soup today.
Recorded my weight in advance of thread 2 - small loss.

Margaritawithlime · 19/10/2020 07:25

6lbs!!! (Well 5.8 but who’s counting?) I KNOW it’s water and I KNOW I won’t see anything like that from this point on but Lordy does that feel good?!
Bring on week 2!
I have pork chops, lamb, that cheeseburger pie and some chicken things on the weekly menu. Feeling positively saintly after a weekend with no booze and being really outdoors and active with the family. Good start!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/10/2020 07:26

Good morning all.
Weighed in and am down 3.5 pounds, which is good. Best of luck to everyone else today Flowers

Totalshambles · 19/10/2020 07:36

Well done to those who have weighed today! Fab jobs! Also very happy with my 4.8lb loss. Have stuck very firmly to the rules and no feel motivated to keep doing that! I am missing berries and the odd smoosh of peanut butter but happy to wait a week for that. This thread has been amazing for motivation!

Rshard · 19/10/2020 07:42

Congratulations on the losses recorded so far! 3lbs here which I’m happy with, ready for week 2.

ZiggZagg · 19/10/2020 07:46

6lb off here Grin

I'm so happy with that, just 1lb until I get into the next stones Wink

Well done to everyone with your fab losses and good luck going into week 2!

Superspecs · 19/10/2020 07:46

2lbs! I am super pleased as I was doing fast 800 before so won't get the low carb water loss thingy as I was already low carb and at one point this week it looked like I was going to gain!

I'm still half a lb higher than I was two weeks ago (before a terribly carby blow out Saturday) but all seems back on track.

Well done everyone on all your brilliant losses!

poorbuthappy · 19/10/2020 07:51

3lb off. Very pleased!
Well done everyone!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/10/2020 08:00

I'm 5lbs down so very happy with that. Congratulations to everyone who's lost weight this week. My work trousers, which were tight in September, are now loose and I'm thinking I might have to get some in a smaller size.

itsmeagainagain · 19/10/2020 08:07

Well done everyone!! 👏 👏 I’m 3lbs off down to 11 stone 2 thrilled with that 😊

Titsywoo · 19/10/2020 08:13

6lbs off! I'm happy with that especially considering the couple of blips I had :)

BIWI · 19/10/2020 08:27

BIWI · 19/10/2020 08:29

It's done!

I'm going to join @SailingandSauvignon and count this as Week 1.
I tried last week but had a number of stress related lapses as ds having MH problems and I finding things very very difficult atm.
I had lost 3lbs but it seems back on again this am so DAY 1 again for me. Pls can I have a zero on the spreadsheet (or move me to starting this week ;)

Congrats on all the good losses - it clearly works :)

WitchWand · 19/10/2020 09:05

Hi ! I'd really like to join too. I started in June at 83kg and am down to 72.6kg. I'd love some company and I'm finding it difficult to keep up my motivation, so I'm hoping joining here will help me. I hope that's ok.

WitchWand · 19/10/2020 09:14

I'm not sure how to add myself to the spreadsheet. Can anyone explain what I need to do please ?
