2020 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp. The first week!

Welcome all.

Well what a strange year this has been! If you're anything like me, food, meals and eating have been all over the place. And that's before we think about the booze.

I found lockdown an odd mix of feeling like I was on holiday but it was also the end of the world. So what was the point of worrying about my diet?

I am lucky, relatively, in that we don't have small children to worry about educating. We also have a nice house and garden, and as me and DH have recently retired, don't have to worry about work. So we were very much advantaged over many people.

But still, the diet/drinking was all to pot. And with the inevitable result.

So we're now in the run up to Christmas - traditionally a time when diets go out of the window, and we start to indulge ourselves. Who knows what's going to happen this year though?!

So with that in mind, it's a good time to try and be focused and aim to have a bit of discipline! This Bootcamp, as with most others, will last for 10 weeks, which will take us right up to Christmas week.

(I truly hope that we'll all be able to spend Christmas with our loved ones, but who knows?)

With grateful thanks to @AthelstaneTheUnready, here is the Spreadsheet of Exceptional Fabulousness .

You should find that you're on the spreadsheet. A couple of things:

  • if you don't want to record your weight every week, that's absolutely fine. Just don't do it!
  • if you're not on it, just add your name to the bottom - don't try and re-alphabatize it - we'll sort it out later

The spreadsheet isn't just a place to record your weight though - have a good look at it, and the tabs - there's loads of information on there, including a veg carb counter and lots of stuff about low carbing in general. You'll also find Bootcamp rules there.

I'm here! It was my birthday on Friday, so I had the first and planned piece of cake then. Yay?
Anyway, I've not been too bad, food wise, but had a cold a in September that stopped the sensible and fasting so I put weight on. And its my period so I put weight on again for that which brings me to 12st 12. Sad

Oh well. KOKO. Welcome to newbies and hello again to everyone else!

Wormthatturned · 12/10/2020 07:50

Hello folks, off we go ....

Mixitupalot · 12/10/2020 07:50

Morning @BIWI

I am on the phone could some kind person add me to the spreadsheet please?! I am in this morning at 151lbs

poorbuthappy · 12/10/2020 08:05

Morning all
Kick off weight recorded.
Scrambled eggs eaten.

Just a day of work to deal with Smile

Oh and dog having his op today so I'm going to have the quietist WFH day ever.

What's everyone doing for lunch?

poorbuthappy · 12/10/2020 08:12

I sound obsessed with food....sorry. Blush

Benvolio · 12/10/2020 08:12

I've got some leftover cheesy leeks and mashed swede and carrot in a Tupperware. Had egg mayo
And salami for breakfast. Not usually a breakfast person or a packed lunch person!

BIWI · 12/10/2020 08:18

@Oneborneverydecade

I've re-read your question now, and had a look at the spreadsheet and understand what you were asking! (Sorry Blush)

Yes, if you've been low carbing (or dieting) prior to Bootcamp, you can enter your start weight in the 'original' column, as well as today's weight in the column dated 12 Oct.

BTW - if you're not on the spreadsheet that's because your name wasn't on the sign-up list

But never fear! The very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready will make sure that you are added.

Margaritawithlime · 12/10/2020 08:22

@BIWI @AthelstaneTheUnready
Please can I be added too?! I’ve been stalking for months through lockdown, promised myself I’d join the next one and nearly missed it.
Am an old hat at LC but haven’t been able to stick to it this year - I’m hoping the spreadsheet is what I need.
Weighing in this morning at an absolutely unbelievable 224 lbs and gutted about it. Still. Onwards and downward.

Laska2Meryls · 12/10/2020 08:29

Signing in ...Thanks BIWI for another bootcamp.. you always put in so much time and effort to doing this you really deserve big plaudits.. Flowers
So I have maintained the weight loss from last boot camp and a few pounds down, but things have slipped especially in the wine department..

But if I can lose 10 more lbs ill be back to my happy weight..

Reminder to self: Water water water..

BIWI · 12/10/2020 08:30

A note about weighing

Although each week I start a new chat thread, with Monday being our conventional 'weigh-in' day, the number that your scales show you is actually the least reliable way of monitoring your progress.

It's very common to find that you have definitely lost weight - you know you have because your clothes are fitting better - but for the scales not to show any progress. This is to do with the cells in your body losing fat but hanging on to water. (@StuntNun can explain this much better than I can!).

So it's a really good idea to also take your measurements. Find a shirt or pair of trousers that are currently a bit tight, and keep trying them on each week. This way you're seeing real progress. It's immensely rewarding to find more and more clothes in your wardrobe that fit you and it can be hugely motivating.

I have a pair of size 10 jeans that I've not been able to get into since I bought them - I can now get them on, and do the zip up, but I have a very unpleasant muffin top, and they're way too uncomfortable to wear and sit down in. So this will be my Monday check, as well as seeing what the scales are lying about telling me.

You can also take actual measurements - bust, waist, hips, tops of your legs and arms - and check these once a week. Again, this will show real change if/when the scales aren't appearing to budge

Just stopping by to say a huge thank you to BIWI et al and to give a wave to everybody as we begin again. Wishing everyone gratifyingly impressive losses- I know it really helped me to be really strict in the first few weeks last time so I saw the numbers head downwards in a rush.
Now off to fill up the water bottle as I head into the office!

Thing101 · 12/10/2020 08:37

Hello, can't seem to add my name and weight (193.4), would be very grateful if someone could do it for me?
Had done a couple of months low carb with great success, but lockdown laziness has had me grazing on the wheaty snacks again, so this is excellent timing for me, thanks!

prettybird · 12/10/2020 08:37

12st 11lb for me ShockBlushShockBlush

The last few weeks have not been good - not only have I fallen off the wagon but I've been running in the opposite direction Blush leaving a trail of sweetie wrappers behind me Blush

NigellasGuest · 12/10/2020 08:41

May I join? Too scared to weigh myself so won't add to spreadsheet , but will monitor tightness of clothes instead!

Terrible food behaviour through lockdown from me - lots of old bad habits resurfaced Sad

20bloodypounds · 12/10/2020 08:59

Name says it all. After losing 3 stone and being a stable happy weight for a year, I've gained 20 bloody lockdown pounds Blush. I'm determined to lose at least some of them by Christmas, and in the process reset my way of eating back to normal.

There's a half bottle of wine sitting in the kitchen and I will NOT be finishing it.

Boiled egg mashed with butter for breakfast
Left over sausages and left over veg for lunch
Tuna Nicoise salad for dinner

plumstone · 12/10/2020 09:05

Hello!! Can i join please - done this before and need to do it again. Would love a stone off by Christmas. Could someone add me please 12.7 this morning - need to see an 11 on the scales ASAP.

Just to ensure i'm on the right track:
B - Fage full fat greek yogurt
L - Spinach and mixed pepper omelette fried in butter
D - Lamb chops, creamy leeks and brussels
Water - 3 litres - bottles filled and 2 black coffees
Have a great day everyone! KOKO

PurBal · 12/10/2020 09:06

@AthelstaneTheUnready @BIWI Tried to add myself in but cells are prohibited from editing.
Weigh-in this morning: 152.6
Starting weight (when I started low carb): 161.4

PastramiNoRye · 12/10/2020 09:07

Big birthday in 4 weeks so hoping I can lose at least a stone by then! I know this WOE works for me!

Starting off the day with a very large mug of peppermint tea and eggs with mushrooms cooked in coconut oil.

Feeling motivated!

Kleptronic · 12/10/2020 09:09

I want to lose 9 lockdown pounds on this bootcamp. Then I want to lose the last stone I'm forever trying to lose. Thanks once again Biwi.

IncurablyCurious · 12/10/2020 09:19

And in the blue corner, weighing in at... Way more than expected... ShockShockShock

Well. Bloody hell. No wonder I've been feeling rubbish.

Time to get on with it! Hope everyone's first day goes well Smile

BIWI · 12/10/2020 09:19

I think having goals is a really good idea - but it's important to keep them realistic.

For me, it's about those jeans fitting. Seeing the back of half a stone would also be very welcome!

OP posts:
Takingontheworld · 12/10/2020 09:23

Morning all.

I'm still nursing a stomach of jelly from the weekend. Off the back of that I've decided I'm also going teetotal. Husband is rarely drinking now and i was infrequent at best so I won't miss it at all, and this hangover will be burned into my brain forever.

As such the scales say a 3lb gain.

So I'm 2 st 9 lbs ish down and ready to smash the 3st mark and start seeing 12 stone somethings on the scale asap.

Today I'll mostly be sipping water and not much else....

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/10/2020 09:28

Morning!

Everybody should now be on the spreadsheet who wanted to be, from this thread and the others.

Just @ me if you've not made it, and I'll add you on. And good luck Flowers

Solongsugar · 12/10/2020 09:29

Good morning ! About to mark in . I've been loosely following fast 800 for 8 weeks and would like to check with you @BIWI, what are the differences please? Good luck all x
