Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

What a relief Taking I’m so glad!! Flowers

Rshard · 12/08/2020 08:49

Have been a bit awol the last few days but really happy to read your good news taking.

Mimosa1 · 12/08/2020 12:28

I am working by the side of a pool in a swimming costume. A pub 30mn drive from my house has a pool out the back and good WiFi (!) and we're selling tickets. It's heaven! I would not have felt so confident in a swimsuit if I hadn't lost 5kg+ since beginning bootcamp so thanks @BIWI and others

ealingwestmum · 12/08/2020 12:38

Irrespective of how much weight loss Mimosa (and yours is fab!), the best gain on this thread is reading stories like yours and others on re-gaining confidence in one’s own body. Or even feeling confidence for the first time. Your day sounds fab btw Smile

DD commented as I was leaving the house today that I looked good in her shorts (hand me downs). She’s been struggling with her own weight gain of late but it was heartfelt. I haven’t worn shorts in public, let alone a pair of hers in 20 years.

MrsKoala · 12/08/2020 13:33

I keep getting in the paddling pool to cool down. I’ve come in to the library/guinea pigs bedroom now as it’s the coolest room in the house. Going to my friends tree planting thing this evening and it’s going to be a casual bbq so I should stay on track with sausages and salad. I’m going to mix a weak bottle of vodka lime and soda to take as I suspect there will be mainly beer on offer.

I shall also be wearing some shorts and a vest I think as it’s so hot, and I expect I’ll still be over dressed. Not looking forward to 5 hour round trip on the train with a mask on tho.

Packingsoapandwater · 12/08/2020 13:37

Can I just join the boot-camp in the thread? Or are you starting a new one next week?

I've got to do something about my diet, and I need some support somehow. I'm about a stone overweight, but the real problem is that I think my carb heavy diet is making me unwell and screwing with my hormones. I've noticed there is a correlation between eating bread and pasta, and having very bad digestive issues and feeling horrendous.

I was paleo for a few years around 2015, but grains gradually crept back in. I suspect (as does my GP) I've some sort of intolerance to something in grain products. Indeed, I now get significant breast soreness problems before my period, and it kicked in yesterday again. I feel like I want to cry this afternoon. I can't really cope with how sore they get.

I need a handhold really. I always flake out because life is so busy and slice of toast is just easy. Sad

Eggbound · 12/08/2020 13:37

I'm so behind on this thread - sorry not to pick up on everyone's news. But Flowers for @Takingontheworld.

Just wanted to say I lost a further 2lb this past week, taking me to 0.6lb off losing a full stone in eight weeks. I'm so pleased, I feel good, I'm getting my waist back. If I can drop just over another stone, I'll be within my ideal range. (I noted that great tip about maintaining - choosing a range you're happy to be in, rather than a fixed weight, and for me that'll be 10st 0lb to 10st 7lb.)

I've updated the spreadsheet, even though I know we're not officially in bootcamp anymore. I'm KOKO with this WOE.

One weird, new thing I have had for the past few weeks - which could be related to sitting in my office working and having a chair that needs replacing - is tingling/numbness/a burning sensation in my feet. It's not painful, but unsettling. It seems circulatory/neurological on the face of it. LCHF couldn't do anything that could cause this, could it? I've worked from home for four years, so it's not like it's a new thing; LCHF is the only 'different' thing in my life these past few months. I already had low blood pressure and a low resting pulse - I don't know if being in ketosis could lower these further and make circulation sluggish?

Anyway, thanks for all the inspiration, ideas and advice. This has been transformative for me. Smile (I too have worn shorts out and about for the first time in over 20 years!)

1WildTeaParty · 12/08/2020 14:21

Wore shorts and swam in the sea yesterday. Being this uncovered is not something experienced in many years.

StuntNun · 12/08/2020 17:23

Packing the next Bootcamp is in the run up to Christmas but you can start any time and get support here. Check out the Low Carb Bootcamp Rules.

Eggbound I get pins and needles / tingling in my feet if I don't get enough magnesium. Maybe try adding some magnesium-rich foods such as spinach, avocado and yogurt?

Laska2Meryls · 13/08/2020 09:16

I was away from scales until today but pleased to have dropped another 1.5 pounds despite having had more wine than I should. But I sis otherwise stick to it.. Back home now and I am carrying right on..loving wearing my smaller shorts and summer dresses that I couldn't get into before also .So I lost 1stone 4lbs on this bootcamp... Want to lose another stone if I can..

BrassicaBabe · 13/08/2020 15:45

Ooh, found a recipe...Sri Lankan runner bean curry. Going to make that for dinner.

StuntNun · 13/08/2020 18:39

I had this rather nice https://therealfoodrds.com/cauliflower-tabbouleh-salad/ tabbouleh for dinner that uses cauliflower rice instead of bulgar wheat. Very refreshing on a hot day.

devoncreamtea · 13/08/2020 21:05

Hi all
I’ve been off wagon for a few days - precipitated by one random accident and then bizzarely continued (I will never understand my own psychology..😬). And although this wasn’t my plan, it has been interesting, because having now eaten many of the foods (ie: pasta carbonara) I thought I really missed - I realised they are not worth it at all!!

One of the things I’ve noticed is a really dodgy tummy - is this familiar to anyone? I wondered if I might be sensitive to wheat before - now I really think I am.
So of course - back to what I can confirm (😬) is a healthy woe for me! In some ways it’s good to clear that up!

Takingontheworld · 13/08/2020 21:38

Hi Devon. Yep i get instant pain/discomfort/nausea on the 1 or 2 times I've strayed. Im 100% certain I've been wilfully ignorant an intolerance for years now!

Mimosa1 · 13/08/2020 23:08

After a stellar run of losses, I've been having a bit too much won, and the scale is creeping up again. I'm going to cut out booze for a couple of weeks and see if that helps.

I saw some young, fit, running mad colleagues for the first time in months today and they commented I was looking svelte so I'm feeling pleased all the same.

Moving day tomorrow, think of me lugging boxes in this heat! that's got to be worth a lbs off, surely?!

Takingontheworld · 14/08/2020 07:52

Good luck with the move!!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 14/08/2020 08:40

Hi again everyone
Took dd away for a few days and got back just in time looking at the news today re isolation. Dodged that and the uK heatwave by the look of it.

However I’m not brave enough to go near the scales just yet. Food generally not too bad - had chips twice but otherwise all low carb, but yet again the booze was too difficult to resist, between half a bottle and a bottle (wine) for 5 nights. That’s going to show right?

I’m thinking long walk today, some cycling and maybe a bit of yoga, combined with lots of water and fat so I don’t get hungry. How long to repair the damage do you reckon? I’m assuming any gain will be actual fat and not just glycogen after 5 days?

Takingontheworld · 14/08/2020 09:52

Just weighed and I'm back at 13.13, so exactly a week to recover from dinner out with my husband last friday!

StuntNun · 14/08/2020 10:58

Devon I can only tolerate very small amounts of wheat now for example a piece of cake is okay but I can't have pasta or bread without stomach ache the next day. I had IBS before I went low carb and it turns out it was wheat intolerance all along. There's a cumulative effect as well when your intolerant so occasionally eating something wheat-based might be fine but if you do it every day for a week on holiday then you'll suffer much more. I'm intolerant to dairy and I avoid milk at home but the occasional tea or coffee with milk while I'm out doesn't seem to bother me.

Also Devon the reason those foods you missed aren't as enjoyable any more is because you were feeding a carb-addiction before you went low carb so they were like a fix for you. Now you've broken the addiction they won't seem as nice. Whereas now your body is running on fat you may well find fatty foods much more appealing than before because you'll recognise that as your body's fuel.

I hope all goes well with your move Mimosa and it's not as hot today.

Ifeel I would weigh myself if I were you and use this as a learning opportunity. Don't worry about what you've gained and just get back to lovely low carb food and it will come off as quickly as it went on. Some people like to do strict Bootcamp for a few days to get themselves back on track.

Tornfelt · 14/08/2020 11:08

StuntNun, I really like reading your interesting and informative posts. I'm another who can feel the effects if I divert from low carb. My stomach is very loud and gurgly afterwards, and often feels uncomfortable.

Twilbury · 14/08/2020 13:54

Can I jump in and join you all ?

I have four stone to lose and have been looking at low carb but a bit scared to take the leap. Carbs are definitely my downfall, all of my snacks are carb based and most of my weight is piled on with snacks.

I love cooking and we always generally eat healthy meals but the snacks are the biggest habit I need to break.

Is there a new bootcamp starting or should I just have a read through ?

StuntNun · 14/08/2020 14:25

Please jump straight in Twilbury as the next official Bootcamp won't be starting for a few weeks. Four stone might sound like a lot but you could lose that in a year if you stick to the rules. I lost 30lb in five months when I started Bootcamp and then had to lose it all again a couple of years later after I had a baby! So I can attest that it really works; I've been maintaining a healthy BMI since 2013. Once you've adapted to this way of eating you'll find your need to snack drops or disappears.

devoncreamtea · 14/08/2020 14:49

Thanks Stuntnun that is fascinating about recognising fat as fuel. I am still suffering the side effects 😬 very off putting!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 14/08/2020 15:11

StuntNun thanks, will get back on scales in the morning and check the damage.

Interesting to read about the addiction aspect explaining why previously-favoured meals aren’t as tasty once addiction is broken. I only wish the same were true of alcohol - I find I can always slip back into enjoying that no matter how long a break I give it.
Mind you, I’ve never given it longer than 40 days. Maybe that’s the trick...

Takingontheworld · 14/08/2020 19:39

I suspect this may be the case. I really want a tub of ben and jerries brownie/blondie with salted caramel core and a bag of extra cookie dough bits 😳 everytime i see it on the food shop I tell myself "in another half a stone" but i fear I won't love it as much as i once did!

Which is also why it fucks me off gaining 4lbs for a poxy black bean faijita the size of my palm. 😂 like wtf
