Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

I’ve had a few arthroscopies on my knees and didn’t get too sore or swollen. A few days later and I was walking fine. (I did have to pee in a bucket downstairs for the first evening as stairs were a bit of a challenge) so fingers crossed you don’t get any swelling @StuntNun

I am enjoying the fast 800 book. I’m going to recommend 5:2 to my parents - particularly my dad (although I doubt he’ll consider it) because he has early type 2 diabetes and numerous heart issues and copd which is exacerbated by carrying a lot of weight round his middle.

@BIWI apologies if this has been asked but can I start combining 5:2 with this woe? I already IF a little bit (just 14:10 most days and 16:8 1-2 per week).

BIWI · 11/08/2020 10:28

I don't see why not, @MrsKoala - if you're maintaining, it sounds like it's probably a good way to do that. (Just be careful that your 5 days of 'eat anything' don't turn into a carb fest!)

MrsKoala · 11/08/2020 10:30

Sorry, I meant still do BC Light on the other 5 days. So still low carb.

MrsKoala · 11/08/2020 10:32

Just keep LC everyday AND keep calories under 800 on 2 days. Sorry - I’m not being clear at all. I’m blaming the heat Grin

Takingontheworld · 11/08/2020 10:32

In hospital today. Have been to sainsbury's and bought cheese, ham, a salad box and some raspberries and a insulated lunchbox to keep in, in hopes i can stay on track. This heat is a really tricky one. Fingers crossed for all clear.

MrsKoala · 11/08/2020 10:47

I’m thinking of you @Takingontheworld Flowers

BIWI · 11/08/2020 10:58

Hope everything goes well today Taking

StuntNun · 11/08/2020 11:06

Hope all goes well Taking.

Shock at having to pee in a bucket MsKoala! The arthroscopy is on my jaw joint so at least I won't have that particular issue but eating might be difficult for a couple of days. I'm following my fast with a high nutrition diet to prepare myself for healing so lots of fish, organ meat, bone broth, fermented foods and unpasteurised dairy along with some supplements (chondroitin and turmeric) recommended by my consultant for osteoarthritis. If the arthroscopy doesn't work then I'll have to have joint replacement so I'm highly motivated to make sure it works.

MrsKoala · 11/08/2020 11:27

stuntnun at first I tried a pint jug and very quickly realised my estimation error. It had been a long time since last wee and once I started I couldn’t stop and the kitchen tiles got the most of it! Grin

The jaw will most likely be more sore so I hope you recover quickly. A joint replacement sounds painful so fingers crossed it works.

devoncreamtea · 11/08/2020 11:36

Thinking of you today Taking Flowers

Oneborneverydecade · 11/08/2020 12:31

@NothingIsWrong I'm also around 14st 9 at 5ft 10 (having lost 1st of lockdown gain recently following Keto without BC). I'd like to get to 11st 7 I think.
Good luck!

Takingontheworld · 11/08/2020 13:52

I'm home. All clear. For various reasons the consultant has suggested i make formal complaint about my GP.

I am overwhelmed with relief and also, anger. But I will let that go in favour of just being grateful its over.

Big sigh of relief!

Mimosa1 · 11/08/2020 14:24

Oh @Takingontheworld, that's wonderful! Well obviously not about the shit GP, but fantastic all the same! I super impressed you didn't fall into a mound of doughnuts during the last stressful week as well. So pleased to hear all is well.

The heat is ghastly but boy is is good for the diet. I've lost nearly 2kg this week.

StuntNun · 11/08/2020 14:55

Mixed news then Taking but I'm sure you're glad to have the all clear. Do you feel up to making the complaint or would you prefer to put it all behind you?

Takingontheworld · 11/08/2020 15:56

I feel like I've been hit by a bus to be honest! Putting on a brave face has exhausted me. Now it's over I just want to move on. I won't see that GP again. This has been one of a few blinders recently. She is perfectly nice but woefully inexperienced I'm realising.

BrassicaBabe · 11/08/2020 16:32

FS Taking no wonder you are exhausted. Take some time to be kind to yourself. Not sure what that means in real terms. For me that might translate as "drink wine"! But Thanks for you while you gather your thoughts x

BIWI · 11/08/2020 16:38

So glad to hear it was good news though @Takingontheworld Flowers

MrsKoala · 11/08/2020 17:06

That’s absolutely fantastic news Taking. I am so genuinely pleased and relieved for you. I know you probably have reason to be angry with the gp and I totally understand that but can you look at it from a more philosophical pov? A bit like a second chance/renewed appreciation of life? Have you seen the Fincher film the Game with Sean Penn? Can you reframe it as a gift of realisation? A motivation to live your best life? I know I sound like a high hippy but when I was told I didn’t have MS things really got put into perspective. I stopped worrying about things which just didn’t matter. And then my friend died and I stopped giving a shit altogether Grin

An apt time for this song I think

Takingontheworld · 11/08/2020 17:35

Thanks Koala Grin

Funnily enough DH and I have spent alot of time thinking about things we need to be happier. The whole thing alongside the general pandemic has definitely left us reflective.

Takingontheworld · 11/08/2020 19:01

How are we like 11 weeks in and I've only just realised how carby Kale is!?

ealingwestmum · 11/08/2020 19:05

Flowers Taking, for the huge mix of emotions from today. But tomorrow will be SO much brighter, given what was going through your mind, diagnosis wise just this morning.

BIWI · 11/08/2020 19:24

@Takingontheworld which site have you been looking at?

According to it's very low, at 1.4g carbs per 100g

Thank you all for your kind words & support. I love this little patch x

Hmm. Let me have a guess ...

... which is also why I don't advise it, as it's often so inaccurate.
