Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Just starting to seriously low carb. I've been just cutting down on carbs and eating up to 1400 Kcals a day to lose 10 pounds over 5 months. Weight loss for me is always slow. Lost a stone in 3 months 2 years ago with moderate low carb- no bread, pasta. rice or white potatoes, 1400 Kcals (close to maintenance Kcals) Biggest benefit is less hunger Was having to cut to 800 Kcals with carbs to lose half a pound a week , which isn't sustainable and lost the same amount of weight on a lower carb, higher,1400, Kcal diet ie half a pound a week.
BMI 5 months ago 32.1, today 30.Have been in the overweight group for the last 10 years but never in the obese one before. Was a normal weight for most of my life without much effort. I'm 60, underactive thyroid, now retired from an active job but weight gain started when still working at around menopause- not helped by being switched from Zolpedum to Mirtazapine to sleep and going from borderline underactive thyroid (since I was 33) to TSH high enough to be medicated.
I've always been a bit of a foodie, overweight as a teenager, so never been into biscuits, cakes etc.
Anyway, now stepping up low carb and cutting Kcals to up to 1000 for two weeks, started 3 days ago, felt ill yesterday, but OK today. 3 pounds lost, though my weight fluctuates by that from day to day. Want to be safely in the overweight zone. Enjoying the lack of hunger.

@Marmite17

Welcome!

But please know that on Bootcamp we don't count calories! (This particular Bootcamp, for the first week only, we did - but this was an aberration exception)

Is there a new boot camp starting soon? I am desperate to lose the lockdown weight..

Mimosa1 · 10/08/2020 07:15

1.7kg off this week! The heat is awful but good for weight loss as it's too bloody hot to eat anything!!!

Hi @NothingIsWrong a few of us are keeping up on this thread until the next one starts (I believe some time in October). Feel free to jump in! Some of us like me joined late and others are continuing all the way through regardless.

AWryGiraffe · 10/08/2020 08:05

I've lost 7lbs now, in about 3.5 weeks, and now 3lbs off my first mini goal (12 stone). Definitely feel like I have less fat around my rib cage. Was with family this weekend and successfully avoided all the cake and had low carb choices. Just one small glass of white wine.

Hoping for a good week!

Takingontheworld · 10/08/2020 08:08

Jesus these scales are SO unforgiving!

Head down this week, gotta keep trucking on. No more events coming up that i can't easily navigate at home I don't think now so should be ok.

Scales currently up 4lb, which was a surprise as yesterday they were only up 1.5 which felt acceptable!

Gonna cut back on dairy and I've not replaced the nuts or nut butter this week. Focus on the water, i might go back to mfp for a couple days just to check in on myself...

NothingIsWrong · 10/08/2020 09:35

@Mimosa1 I will thank you! First thing is that I'm going to have to weigh myself and I'm not sure I can cope with that...

Mimosa1 · 10/08/2020 09:53

Great @NothingIsWrong ! Glad to have someone else starting late

BIWI · 10/08/2020 10:07

@NothingIsWrong

Just jump in and start here! We'll all be here to support you along your own personal Bootcamp! The next one will probably be in October, the idea being it will finish just before Christmas.

Thank you. Weighed myself. 14st11 which is grossly overweight. Should be more like 12st (I'm 5'9")

AWryGiraffe · 10/08/2020 10:22

@NothingIsWrong everyone starts somewhere! A few weeks in and it feels normal to me again to eat this way. I'm finding it easier with lockdown etc as I'm not tempted by things out and about!

NothingIsWrong · 10/08/2020 10:23

I had scrambled eggs for breakfast. No bagel or toast or cereal to follow. To be fair, I eat far too much in general

Jellycatspyjamas · 10/08/2020 10:54

I lost 2 stone through boot camp a few years ago - and have kept it off, which after years of yo-yo dieting is a bloody miracle. So I’m going to tighten up my way of eating again, put the carbs down and work on the next stone.

Hopeislost · 10/08/2020 10:59

@NothingIsWrong Well done for starting! I too have a lot to lose but we'll get there! I used to eat enormous portions of carbs but am now satisfied with much smaller portions.

I didn't weigh last week as I was visiting family, but am surprised to have lost 4.5lbs over the 2 weeks. That takes me to 12.5lb lost overall. Come on one stone!

MrsKoala · 10/08/2020 11:40

Thanks @BIWI I roasted cauliflower ‘couscous’ In some olive oil and spices then cooled it and mixed it with lots of parsley and coriander, spring onions, finely chopped pepper and tomato and dressed it like tabouleh. Was very nice with the crab (I also did a butterhead lettuce, cucumber and avocado salad dressed in a creamy lemony dressing). Going to have leftovers with smoked mackerel for lunch.

Forecast reckons it will feel like 36 degrees here by 1pm so I’m not sure I’ll fancy much for lunch anyway. I will be sitting in the paddling pool instead!

I’m down 2lb to 11st 8 today. So happily staying in my comfort zone.

Annoyingly H has now has a small realisation he could do with losing some weight (as we are redoing our life ins and he has to have a medical and can’t keep telling himself he’s still 15 st). But of course he wants to lose weight with no sacrifice or hunger. He won’t contemplate giving up spuds and bread, so has said it will need to be calorie controlled. But then that means I need to make low calorie dinners. Breakfast and lunch are easy to do separately but dinner is going to be a lot less fatty. Possibly not a bad thing as I start to introduce more ‘good’ carbs I suppose.

My fast 800 book has arrived so I’ll be reading that in the sunshine later.

Have a great week everyone. :)

SulisMinerva · 10/08/2020 12:09

Your couscous tabouleh sounds lush MrsKoala.

Welcome to the Bootcamp NothingIsWrong! I’ve also started relatively recently. I did do Bootcamp before - a couple of times in fact - but thought I’d experiment with a ‘everything in moderation, calorie counting’ WOE for a while. I think I just wanted to prove to myself that I could eat bread and pasta nearly everyday and stay slim. How wrong I was! Weight gain and terrible, painful bloating was the result.
I’m glad I did it though as it proved to me that this WOE is much better for my body.

NothingIsWrong · 10/08/2020 12:22

Yup. I love bread and pasta. They do not love me. Kids are having pasta and cheese for lunch, I've opted for pepper and onion salad

ToastCosILoveIt · 10/08/2020 12:23

I'm new too.

One stone up from perimenopause and another from Lockdown. I am aiming to get under ten stone, maybe even to 9st 7lb which was my weight for a good many years after children: I am 5ft 5. (currently 160lb). I started paleo, keto and 16:8 last Thursday. I've gone from 165lb to 160lb but appreciate that some of that is water.

I am also using My Fitness Pal to track food and carbs as I want to keep the latter under 50g a day. Feeling good although waking up ravenous which was never a problem when I had more carbs. My window varies from 9 - 5 to 11 - 7 depending on the day of the week (usually later at weekends).

I am always inspired by these threads.

Slipping back into behaviours that weren't working before ... Wink

To quote @ShagMeRiggins WATER, WATER, WATER!

List out for me your last few days' menus (including what you've been drinking) and let me see if I can help.

For anyone that's incorporating intermittent fasting I recommend the Life tracker app which I find very motivating for making the most of a fast.

Mimosa1 · 10/08/2020 22:21

Wow@StuntNun - 120 hrs is hardcore!!!! I can't imagine fasting for -1- 5 days...

StuntNun · 11/08/2020 06:34

I don't know how long I'll be fasting Mimosa so I set it as open as I prefer to go by how I feel than to set a target. I've never fasted for longer than 48 hours. I have an arthroscopy operation coming up and I'm hoping a couple of extended fasts might help me get the most benefit from it by reducing inflammation.

Mimosa1 · 11/08/2020 09:59

Good luck with the arthroscopy @StuntNun (and 48 hrs is hugely impressive too!)

BIWI · 11/08/2020 10:02

Doesn't sound pleasant @StuntNun - hope all goes well
