Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Going to do this JO salmon/prawn/bacon recipe one night this week. Clearly won't be using half fat creme fraiche!

I'm still up 3lbs here so no idea why I'm having no movement. Have put away the scales and I'm gonna write everything i eat this week as something must be off.

Just had 2 sausages, some BIWI cauliflower cheese, red cabbage done in butter and broccoli with a teeeny bit of bisto gravy. I finished eating late last night so thats my first food today so i could get my 16hrs fast in. Will concentrate on water too.

Rshard · 14/09/2020 06:50

Yes buffy, dh had surgery, he recovered really well. It’s a shame you’re having to wait for access to the knee clinic. So much affected by Covid-19.

The JO dish looks lovely brassica. I bought one of the roasting tin cook books recently and there’s lots on there that suit this woe.

Mimosa1 · 14/09/2020 08:13

I'm still using Mondays as a weigh in day, so will continue to post here for accountability. No news is definitely not good news in my case.... Down 0.8kg this week (0.4kg over two weeks / month after my straying) to 74.5kg. Only 4 kg to a "normal" BMI, I can do this, surely!

Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 07:49

Ffs. I feel like since I started being more public about dieting my weight has totalled stalled.

I do 16.8 most days, sometimes longer, less so shorter.

Sunday I had 2 sausages, Biwis cauli cheese, redcabbage done in butter and broccoli. Was absolutely stuffed, just stuck with water thereafter.

Yesterday I had 8 nuts (mix of walnut, almond, hazel)

Small portion of bolognaise with kale done in olive oil and pink salt. Manchego cheese.

Dinner was more kale done in olive oil with garlic and salt, about 80g of baby corn and herby roast chicken. Tsp of garlic mayo.

Today planning bacon & eggs and then steak and big salad...

Mimosa1 · 15/09/2020 08:46

@Takingontheworld your food sounds delicious, sorry to hear you're frustrated with it not coming off faster. I know how you feel! I inexplicably put on 0.5kg today but turns out that DH bought a low carb chicken satay "fake-away" and it had 28g of carbs per serving... which I realised AFTER we'd had it for supper. Gaaah. I must get him to read the labels but I'm unreasonably annoyed (as I would have much preferred a slice of pizza if I were going to cheat). Oh well. He of course continues to lose weight easily as anything!!!

Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 09:15

I feel great, but its not transferring to the scales and I'm just a bit baffled.

Considering fat fasting but can't get my head hugely around it...

Hopeislost · 15/09/2020 10:06

@Takingontheworld Have you taken measurements? Are they changing?

Another 1lb off for me. AF is here so am digging into all my willpower reserves to not eat crap. It's not helping that we were given a big box of chocolates. I might get DH to take them to work to get rid of the temptation!

Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 11:35

Sadly I didn't! Since i have history of repeated failure I didn't even bother with before pictures let alone measurements! I feel good but wouldn't say i feel noticeably slimmer over past few weeks.

StuntNun · 15/09/2020 12:31

Taking this might sound like a stupid question but are you sure you're eating enough? It might be worth adding up your calories for a day because we have had people stall on Bootcamp when eating 1200-1400 calories a day but then start losing again when they increase their food intake.

BrassicaBabe · 15/09/2020 14:19

No advice from my Taking but just a fist bump of solitary from me. I had a chunk of months at the beginning of the year where I really struggled too

Randomfatty · 15/09/2020 14:49

Hi @BIWI - - have been missing from action for the last few weeks - life got in the way and also had some bad migraines which meant eating more starchy carbs with the meds - otherwise I felt sick all the time :(

Anyway quick question - when does the next low carb bootcamp start as I'd like join. I have restarted low carb last week, so hopefully will be well in the swing when the next bootcamp starts.

Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 15:14

I'll start tracking but i suspect i could be within the 1200/1400 mark actually...

Take your measurements! Don't just rely on the scales.

If you're enjoying your food, and feeling great, then relax. It will happen for you.

Are you eating enough fat?
Are you drinking all the water?
Are you taking any medication?
Are you eating too much dairy?

All things to consider ...

(Sorry if replies are late, I'm on holiday right now and not always checking in)

Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 15:49

Enjoy your holiday BIWI!!

I shall start taking measurements.

Am eating enough hunger wise yes.
Am probably always a bit on the heavy dairy side but then I'm not 100% sure what counts as too much in one day.
No meds
I don't hold back on the olive oil/butter so i think fats ok too.

I'm loathed to go back to mfp with all its inaccurate stuff but not sure what else to do!!

BIWI · 15/09/2020 15:56

In which case, I'd relax!

You didn't answer me about the water though - so make sure you're drinking plenty.

Why not try a couple of days dairy-free? Or as dairy-free as you can manage? See if has any impact.

OP posts:
Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 16:26

Interesting! Yes could try dairy free.

Oh yes sorry, am making a conscious effort on the water front!

MrsKoala · 15/09/2020 20:18

Re the knee conversation- when I was 18 I injured my knees quite badly - ligaments and cartilage. I’ve had a few surgeries on each but my left knee became very unstable when I was 25 and I had to have it screwed together. I can no longer do anything high impact so running is totally out. Not that I miss it because I always hated it and see it as the most mind numbing experience. But I do miss aerobics/dancing to music. I have to spin now mainly and Pilates and body pump instead.

I’ve been totally rubbish this week. I’ve felt totally knocked out from the surgery and been eating carby shit. Not even nice stuff. Just lazy easy filler. Tried to get back on it today tho. Not going to weigh till Monday. I have to get my head back into it tho as I’m still thinking about carby food and can’t drive to do a proper shop to stock up and today I’ve just been starving all day and ate 3 spoons of leftover Wagamama’s Mini cha Han rice from dds plate instead of cooking my own dinner.

I love this way of eating but it’s so much effort when you are busy, ill or exhausted.

Takingontheworld · 15/09/2020 22:24

Rest and recoup MrsK, prioritise yourself x

Chugged water like a mad woman today. Steak. Salad and leeks and lardens in saltybutter and boursin. Steak cooked in butter with salt crystals.

StuntNun · 16/09/2020 06:46

Am probably always a bit on the heavy dairy side but then I'm not 100% sure what counts as too much in one day.
Taking it's not so much the amount of dairy as the frequency. The people whose weight loss stalls with dairy are often having dairy all day - creamy coffees, cheese in every meal, even eating spoonfuls of cream straight from the pot as a snack. The reason dairy can stall weight loss is that it is hyperinsulinogenic in some people. That means their insulin levels rise much more than they should for the amount of protein consumed. So to limit this I suggest having dairy no more than twice a day. It's also better to have your dairy with a meal rather than as a snack on its own or as a creamy coffee. That's because the additional fibre and fat in your meal will slow the absorption rate and your insulin levels won't rise as quickly.

Takingontheworld · 16/09/2020 10:07

Ahh helpful okay so I'm I'm honest then I'm probably having dairy 2-3 times a day. Like a chunk for a snack and maybe grated on a dinner. Unlikely to have it at both meals i think but I'll try and plan a dairy free trial run

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 16/09/2020 10:27

@StuntNun that is really interesting. I was also having cheese quite a lot as well as creamy coffee.

Well I didnt just fall off the wagon last weekend, I picked my fat backside up and threw it off 🙈
DP wanted to celebrate an anniversary we have and I've struggled to go low carb again. My 2 little ones are still not sleeping through the night so I've felt like a walking zombie! I am going to do the fat fast for a few days, then reintroduce low carb meals so it feels like I can suddenly eat everything rather than cutting out everything which is what I've struggled with.

I hate feeling like I've failed!

StuntNun · 16/09/2020 10:36

Be kind to yourself Buffy you haven't failed! You're facing a double whammy of carb cravings from falling off the wagon and your cortisol levels being raised from lack of sleep. Both of these directly impact your insulin levels and are genuinely making it harder for you to eat low carb. I personally wouldn't do a fat fast, instead I'd plan for some of my favourite low carb meals so I'm looking forward to everything I eat. Don't be afraid to snack while you get back on track - it's harder to eat bad food when you're full of good food!

I've managed to lose 2 of the 20 extra lockdown pounds. Only 18 more to go.

I think the trick for me is keeping busy. Boredom has me opening the fridge looking for something to do (and the only answer I find in there is to eat something - what a surprise!) I've got a friend's dog staying this week so every time I'm mindlessly heading for the fridge I pick up his lead and take him for a walk around the block.
