Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

@20bloodypounds

Meatzza is great. Other people will wonder why they ever put mozzarella, tomato, mushroom, green peppef, pepperami etc on a doughy base when they could have it on oregano and olive infused meat.

But choose your toppings wisely. Please God not tuna and sweetcorn or hawaiian ham and pineapple

How do i make this!?
BrassicaBabe · 10/09/2020 20:15

I found a recipe for meatzza on "allrecipes.com". I know we don't count calories but 😱😱😱it must be a huge amount!

Mimosa1 · 11/09/2020 09:23

I'm back in BC proper and finding I need the 3 big meals a day to stick to it. Lots of lovely foodstuff.

I read a fascinating article about how diet is for weight and exercise is for physiology the other day by the appropriately named Dr Lazarus. My FIL got hugely fit in his late 50s after taking early retirement and is fit as a fiddle today in his 70s so the good news is I'm not too old to get fitter...

brassica I follow the Nigella recipe (sort of - I miss out the breadcrumbs, add oregano, and go freelance on the toppings) Portion size is the key. You have one slice with some salad. Then you wander away and chat to people. You will be completely satiated and won't need any more. In any case, other people will have discovered how delicious it is and there will be none left!

🌟🌙ie

BrassicaBabe · 11/09/2020 15:23

Will definitely check out meatzza another time but for now...result!

DS has a small birthday pizza thing himself now which finishes after BIL thing has started. So 1) I get to be late! 🥳 2) I can eat before I go (going to try that mackerel and rhubarb recipe) and 3) I can drive so can swerve the alcohol too 🥳🥳

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/09/2020 16:27

Still hanging on here. 1lb more down.

My parents are also probably fitter than me now, with their continual retirement walks.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 12/09/2020 09:44

Hi all can I join you, I’ve done boot camp several times but have just had 2 weeks in quarantine after France was put on the list when we were away. I feel like all my usual good habits seemed to disappear and that combined with not being able to leave the house to exercise or go for a walk on top of the holiday have left me at my heaviest ever !
So I’m starting my own boot camp today, or I will have to be in elasticated trousers for ever
B total Greek yogurt
L scrambled eggs and avocado
D chicken casserole lots of green veg

Any lunch ideas would be helpful especially things like soup

ZiggZagg · 12/09/2020 10:13

Hi. Looking forward to the next boot camp, I've lurked long enough! I'm in a really great frame of mind at the moment, have been doing low(ish) carb for 5 weeks and have lost 13lbs up to now! Just another 100 or so to go Wink

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 12:04

@BIWI Is this normal? The last 2 days I feel sick after eating 🤢 Takes ages to feel better. I've been doing low carb for about 3 weeks now without this problem. I.dont know if I'm going too low carc, or maybe too much fat? But it's making mealtimes miserable. Have you come across it before?

@Rshard Tore my meniscus January 2019. It took 7 months for referral to the physio who couldn't do anything because I was heavily pregnant by then and had just kept tearing over and over as I got bigger. She thinks I'll need surgery now. My brother had surgery to fix his and he said its straight forward so I'm not at all anxious about it. Did your husband have surgery? The knee clinic isn't seeing patients just now so no idea how long I'll have to wait!

@Notwatchingtvtoday I found a really nice recipe online for buttered garlic shrimp. I also made it with chicken and it worked just as well. Takes about 10- 15 minutes to make. I made it with zucchini noodles. Or do we call them corgette noodles in the uk 🙈 Or have I got it totally wrong and zucchini and corgette are completely different?! Blush

BIWI · 12/09/2020 13:21

Sorry you're feeling like that @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer.

I doubt it's anything to do with low carbing, but before we can conclude that, why don't you post for me what your meals have been over the last 3-4 days, as well as what you've been drinking? See if we can spot anything.

Are you sure you're not pregnant?!

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 13:37

Thanks @Biwi do you need the whole recipes or just the name? A few were recipes I found online?

BIWI · 12/09/2020 13:53

Just give me an idea of each meal - so e.g. 'chicken casserole - chicken thighs fried in olive oil, with shallots, mushrooms and cream'. That's all I need!

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 13:59

Friday:
B. Nothing (fasting)
L. Nothing (rushing about)
D. 1 tin of Pilchards in tomato sauce and a small tin of tuna mixed with Nandos mayo (carbs 1.3g per serving I think)

Thursday:
B. Nothing (fasting)
L. Buttered garlic prawns (carbs 3g, fat 20g, protein 27g) on zoodles (cooked in remaining buttered garlic sauce)
D. 2 Portobello mushroom pizzas (portobello mushrooms with cheese, tomato and jalepenos stuffed inside the open cup)
Snack. Babybel

Wednesday:
B. Nothing (Fasting)
L. Cheese, tomato and onion omelette
D. Buttered garlic chicken (nutritional values similar to the prawn meal I'm guessing)
Snack. Portion of grated cheese, chopped onion and ham.

Tuesday:
B. Nothing (fasting)
L. Scrambled eggs, bacon and chopped avacado
D. Cream cheese, parmesan and spinach stuffed chicken breast (carbs 3g, fat 24g, protein 41g) with buttered sprouts and broccoli.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 14:03

I was in ketosis, I have ketostix and checked yesterday morning. I broke my diet and had 2 of the big bottles of Desperados and a couple chocolate chip cookies (DP is totally to blame for bringing them home 🙈)
But I checked my urine this morning and still showing a good amount of ketones! This hasn't happened before, it normally goes back to neutral.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 14:06

*Broke my diet late last night. I was really good as well. Was at my DM's yesterday with a birthday cake for her and never had any. Then DP came home after the DC were in bed with his goodie bag 😭

BIWI · 12/09/2020 14:16

I can't see anything obvious there @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer - but if anything, you're not eating enough fat! The meals you're showing macronutrient counts for, show that you're eating more protein than fat. The ratios should be fat:protein:carbs.

Are you eating when you're not really hungry? Are you eating big portions? It could be simply that you need to eat a bit less!

What about drinking? (And I don't mean beer!). How much fluid are you taking in?

OP posts:
BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 14:48

I'm occasionally having a black coffee in the morning. Otherwise I've only been drinking water.
I didnt reise it was so high in protein until I searched for the nutrients. My portions have been ok (or so I thought) I did struggle to finish the meals. And I haven't felt hungry in between most of the time. Yesterday I was supposed to break my fast at 1.30pm but because I was busy it was about 6.30pm before I ate. I wasnt overly hungry but did feel very lightheaded. That's when I was at my DM's, she gave me the pilchards and tuna.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 14:50

I should also add I've been drinking a lot of water, I have been really thirsty though and put it down to the change in diet.

BIWI · 12/09/2020 15:47

I think you may have an electrolyte problem then. Drinking a lot of water and still being thirsty is a sign that you might need more sodium.

In the immediate term, have a hot drink made from Oxo or Bovril or Marmite. Make sure you're using salt in your cooking and on your food.

You also need magnesium and potassium. Good sources of those are salmon, avocado, natural full fat yoghurt, spinach and nuts.

You could also buy a supplement - High5 make one called Zero which you can buy from their website, or from Holland & Barrett or Evans.

BIWI · 12/09/2020 15:50

This is an interesting piece sounds like you could just be suffering from carb flu.

I'd also suggest that if you're still feeling nauseous, that you increase your carbs a little to see if that helps. Looking at your menus again, they're very short on vegetables, which is where you should be getting your carbs from.

You could also try adding in a slice of wholemeal toast and see if that makes you feel better.

OP posts:
BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 12/09/2020 18:10

Thanks, I'll pick the supplements up tomorrow and increase my veg and carbs. I prefer low carb eating, apart from feeling sicky the last couple of days I've had much more energy. Even my DP commented on how tidy the house has been lately despite looking after 2 toddlers from hell Grin

Mimosa1 · 13/09/2020 08:33

Morning all. Spent a lovely day at the seaside yesterday and lucked into a tapas restaurant for lunch by the sea. It was great for LC eating - asparagus wrapped in Parma ham, garlic and cheese mushroom, fried halloumi, Cajun chicken... not authentic by any means but delicious and helped to swerve the battered fish and chips.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 13/09/2020 10:20

Glad to be back on it,
B Greek yogurt
L tortilla
D roast chicken
Lots of water

20bloodypounds · 13/09/2020 11:24

2 meals today. A glorious brunch of eggs, bacon, mushrooms. Then an early dinner of duck, leeks, spinach, broccoli, followed by (a few) blackberries and cream.
