Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Hi @Takingontheworld No, like eating 80 to 90% of your calories from fat Blush and intermittent fasting a minimum of 16/8. I came across it online while reading about keto. I had a cheat weekend and it's meant to help you get back into ketosis quickly.
I posted earlier for advice about it or info from anyone who has done it but not had a reply yet. I have lost 6lb in the 2 days I've done it so far!!
Aw that's brilliant having others notice your hard work. Makes it feel worth while! Just buy the Jean's, treat yourself, sounds like you're doing really well Smile

Takingontheworld · 04/09/2020 19:28

Is that 6lbs including a gain from cheat weekend?

Would be interested in info also. However you may not get that here as its more sensible low carb. I do follow keto myself in sense i keep to 20-30g carb per day but i think everyone else here is probably higher than that?

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 04/09/2020 21:11

I had my cheat weekend, then started back on keto on monday. Learned about fat fasting and started it loosely on tuesday, properly on wednesday. I weighed myself on tuesday and again on thursday and I had dropped 6lb. Which is great, but I have essential hypertension and a genetic disorder where I can't lower my cholesterol without statins so I dont think I should go the full 5 days.

You can search 'fat fasting' on youtube. Itll bring up lots of videos of either doctors discussing it or people's accounts of having done it. It's also discussed on some well known keto sites like Diet Dr and Ruled.Me.

I have weight gained from 2 recent back to back pregnancies to lose as well as the weight before so I try to keep my carbs as low as I can. Definitely under 20g.

BIWI · 04/09/2020 21:58

Can I just (gently) point out that this is Bootcamp? Not keto or general low carb?

Rshard have you ever tried making your own yogurt? It's really easy. I used to have a yogurt maker from Lakeland but you can use a slow cooker or an Instant Pot or a flask. I use a mix of whole milk and double cream for extra thickness. You only need some live yogurt to start it off. If you want Greek yogurt then you can strain the finished set yogurt through a nut milk bag or muslin or cheesecloth. I freeze some of the whey, the thin liquid that comes out as it thickens, to start the next batch.

Welcome Buffy I haven't heard of a fat fast for a while. That was an Atkins Diet thing wasn't it?

Good job on the clothes Hope it's nice when you can enjoy shopping again, especially when you get a bargain like that.

BIWI I think keto has become just another word for low carb. Most people that say they are keto aren't actually following the correct macros. Of course there's no need to if you aren't doing it for medical reasons such as epilepsy or cancer. Although some people with diabetes do benefit from limiting their protein intake. I find the obsession with ketosis a bit weird, especially those that take exogenous ketones to try and boost their own ketosis. It's much more relaxed here on Bootcamp where we don't care whether you're in ketosis or not since it doesn't have any effect on weight loss.

Rshard · 05/09/2020 07:52

I have never made yoghurt stuntnun! Sounds pretty simple though so might give it a go.

I love reading the Mac’s!

Rshard · 05/09/2020 07:52

Mac’s!! I meant nsv’s

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 05/09/2020 08:50

@BIWI I do apologise, I read your prep thread, the rules and some of the other bootcamp threads and it sounded just like what I had been doing (apart from the fat fast). I thought low carb/ high fat was keto, I didnt realise there were variations. I wanted to do the next bootcamp and saw your replies to other pp to join this thread in the meantime for chat and advice, which is what I thought I was doing. So I'm sorry for any offence i caused.

@Takingontheworld before I leave the thread, I just wanted to say my start weight on tuesday was 16st 1lb. On Thursday it was 15st 9 (6lbs down) and I just weighed myself... 15st 3lb's!! I'm in shock!! Obvs its water weight but it's gone! Sorry, I am so excited I had to tell someone other than DP who is now getting tired of me going on about it Grin I'm stopping the fat fast today though because of my health conditions.

Apologies again @BIWI

Takingontheworld · 05/09/2020 09:30

Buffy that is literally amazing!!!!!!

Went for my first 'run' .... jogged, walked & sprinted 1.5miles, and scales are showing 190.6lbs so I'm SO close to the 180s!

X

No offence caused @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer! Just pointing out that Bootcamp is different, and that you don't need to count the carbs. You are very, very, very welcome to post here for chat/support etc.

But if you were trying to follow a keto diet, it is different - 'proper' keto is less than 20g carbs per day, whereas on Bootcamp you don't need to count. (The idea being it makes it much easier to do!)

So please don't leave! Grin

You should defiantly stay buffythebuffetslayer! You’ve done so well already.

Excellent running takingontheworld!

Takingontheworld · 05/09/2020 13:18

Can someone paste me the cauliflower cheese recipe please! X

BIWI · 05/09/2020 13:52

Cut cauliflower into florets and boil in salted water till tender - around 7-8 minutes; drain and let them steam dry

In a small saucepan, bring 300ml double cream up to the boil, then add in as much grated mature cheddar as you like (at least 200g I'd say, which is half a block).

Stir until the cheese has melted into the cream, then season with black pepper and the juice of half a lemon.

Put the cauliflower into an oven dish, pour the sauce over and bake in a hot oven. You could also add more grated cheese on the top, so that you get a nice crispy, brown top.

Oooo thank you!

StuntNun · 05/09/2020 15:36

I made it the other day Taking and it was delish.

Takingontheworld · 05/09/2020 16:15

Totally doing it tomo with sausages!

Rshard · 05/09/2020 18:07

Definitely feeling like cauliflower cheese weather. Also, bought a swede today - yay!

Aweebitporky · 05/09/2020 23:16

Can I jump in and join you. I’ve been low carbing for a long time, never even really gave it any thought any more, just what I did. But shielding and Boris boxes brought on a severe dose of the fuck its, and living in sweats meant my usual checks and balances that kept me within a tolerance limit disappeared. I was horrified today to find my jeans wouldn’t go over my arse and I realised I’ve put on twenty pounds 😳😳😭. Can’t afford to wait for the next bootcamp so I’ve hauled my porky arse in here and I’m back on it tomorrow.

MrsKoala · 06/09/2020 09:25

Hello all. Sorry I’ve been awol - I’ve missed you all and the chat!

So so busy with my ‘job’ (or ‘business’ or whatever it’s defined as - I haven’t decided yet). And of course getting ready for kids going back to school etc. Good news - I’ve got my boob surgery on Tuesday (so nervous and having a mix of emotions). Irritatingly I was due an op to remove a large lump of veins in my neck in March which was cancelled and they called Friday to say they could do it on Tuesday, sigh, you wait ages for an operation then come along at once - so I’ll need to wait about 6 weeks to be back on the list for my neck.

Haven’t caught up on the thread - apols - but did see @Takingontheworld mention new jeans. I can recommend 7 for all mankind slim illusion range - I got mine in the sale from Brandalley. They really are very flattering.

MrsKoala · 06/09/2020 09:37

Here are the jeans at Brandalley - 7 for all mankind

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 06/09/2020 11:30

So please don't leave! grin

I'd love to stay Grin thanks @BIWI

@StuntNun that's really interesting what you say about how ketosis doesnt have much effect on weight loss, I didnt know that and was one of those who genuinely thought it did.

Although I like keeping my carbs quite low, I never count them. I haven't got the time or patience so usually just google low carb recipes and make what I like the look of. I even found a low carb version of the French dish Coq Au Vin and it tasted just as good.

Anyway, my goal is to get back to 9st. I'm 5ft 2 with a tiny build so don't suit being bigger. Im also an apple shape so wildly out of proportion Grin
Recently had 2 babies one after the other so have all that extra baby weight gained too! Most importantly, my health conditions will be more manageable with the weight off. I had a stroke when I was 30, I want to avoid having another one 🙈

20bloodypounds · 06/09/2020 15:38

Name-change says it all!!!

I am 21 pounds heavier than I was in summer 2019. There was a 4-5 lb fluctuation from summer to New Year, which seemed OK as that's all in my OK range.

But then lockdown....

I know why (stress, anxiety, loss of income, boredom, adjusting to dp wfh) and I know how (raiding the snack cupboard which didn't exist before dp wfh wine, gin, crisps, bread, potatoes, biscuits).

Plus I was eating high fat too, it's what I'm used to. So the lethal combo of fats, sugars, carbs. And here I am. I joined the lockdown bootcamp and I'm +5 lbs from the start of that Blush

Done lots of successful bootcamps before so I know the drill. Aiming to lose 1-2 pounds per week. And starting NOW not waiting for the next BC.

20bloodypounds · 06/09/2020 15:40

@Aweebitporky ditto to everything g you posted

Takingontheworld · 06/09/2020 17:55

Hey 20bloodypounds. Welcome back!

BIWI, cauli cheese was so good!

Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!
Takingontheworld · 06/09/2020 17:57

(Before anyone jumps to tell me that this is a v high calorie dinner - even though we don't count kcals) I've been fasting all day and doing housework so ended up being only meal, hence 3 sausages! 😳
