Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Checking In ! Im still on it ,keeping to the plan (albeit with some weekend wine so BC lite really) and losing very slowly .. maybe a pound a week.. but thats also probably because I am not so 'On It' with the water, water, as I would be with the daily chat and weekly WI of proper boot camp..

However as long as I keep inching down.....

We are going away in a couple of weeks for for 10 days in the campervan so I may (just may) have fish and chips one day (yeah, I know, bad move but as its a holiday and I am determined it will be just once ) but otherwise as its working so well I am absolutely going to carry on..

I want to start the next boot camp at no more than I am now .. (and that's just over 1 and a half stone down from start weight of last BC..)

I'd like to lose another stone if I can, although 10 lbs will take me to goal..

Takingontheworld · 28/08/2020 21:14

When is next boot camp, campers?

Laska2Meryls · 28/08/2020 21:16

October? Brilliant about your 2 stone Taking! Well done!

@GoldPaperStars

Ooof! I could do with a pep talk! I’ve been doing this for three weeks now, but after the initial drop I’ve not lost anything in a week and I’m still really hungry lots. None of that feeling full and not needing to eat business here!

I’m under 30g of carbs most days and not gone under 50g in three weeks. Talk me away from ordering a pizza please! Will I loose more?

@GoldPaperStars weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for not seeing any weight loss.

However, you shouldn't be hungry by now.

Why are you counting your carbs?! We don't do that on Bootcamp.

Are you eating plenty of fat? You should be high fat, medium protein and low carb.

Why don't you list out for me what you've been eating and drinking over the last few days and let me see if there's anything obvious I can help you with.

Thanks BIWI

I’m not so much tracking carbs as recording what I’m eating in MyFitnessPal as a way to keep myself accountable and seeing how many carbs I’m having. Today was my first day not doing that and trying to have more of a Bootcamp approach.

I try to mix things up, but generally I don’t eat until lunch unless I’m feeling particularly weak and feeble in which case I’ll have a lump of cheese. Lunch is either eggs and avocado or feta and avocado and dinner is usually lots of veg (low carb) roasted with tofu served with full fat yogurt, or mashed cauliflower with buttery cabbage and low carb veggie frankfurters. Sometimes I make a ragu or curry by adding a tin of tomatoes and seasoning to the veg. I’m not a massive fan of eggs, or as least I go through phases, so not having a huge number number of those. I’m also sometimes having yogurt or cream and berries after dinner or a very little very dark chocolate. I snack on cheese. All I drink is water (about 6 pints a day) and very occasionally a Diet Coke. I don’t drink tea, coffee or alcohol anyway (I’m a riot at a party! Grin)

I do have ME which means I’m knackered all the time so I’m wondering if my desire to eat is perhaps my body looking for easy energy out of habit or a greater need than “normal” bodies? Who knows! I’ve been feeling particularly weak the last couple of days, but the ME / 8mo DS might have contributed...

I’m REALLY happy that I’ve managed to keep up for 3 weeks, but keen not to stall for too long and loose enthusiasm. I had such high hopes for dropping lots. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Woop! I seem to be back on a losing streak again! Another lb down this AM. Bit anxious for being away this weekend. I'm going to miss the shed load of garlicky salty kale i basically live off 🤣 they just never give enough veg or the right veg in restaurants!

Won't be able to weigh again until tuesday AM now.. how will i cope !

Mimosa1 · 29/08/2020 09:01

Congrats on your loss @taking and welcome @GoldPaperStars. I'm sure someone wiser than I will be along shortly to advise.

My passel of houseguests has left and I stood on the scales for the first time in a week and I'm down 500g so I'm really pleased, although frustratingly this takes me to the place I was 3 weeks ago... overall the trend is down as I try to remind myself and at least I'm not putting on weight. I never really did have a big weight gain all in one go bad pregnancies, it's the adding 1-2kg a year for 10 years that did it...

Next lot of houseguests arriving later today for the weekend so must get on!

Takingontheworld · 29/08/2020 09:26

Well done mimosa!

ShagMeRiggins · 29/08/2020 13:43

Don't think that you will go for the dish and just leave the chips (or roast potatoes, or Yorkshire pudding - whatever!) because you won't ...

This is almost always true. Just ask for substitutions.

Anyway, hey y’all, sounds at the very least there’s lots of great maintenance during summer holidays and— can’t stress this enough—WATER! WATER! WATER!

It’s what keeps me going when I slip into a burrito or that bit of pastry or a full week of vodka/tonics.

Water, good fats, and carb from veg plus some meat & fish. If you think of it like that all the macros can get stuffed and you can just enjoy your bloody food.

I’m doing well it’s been a good summer, not without it’s tricky days (that’s life), but Life trajectory is Up while Weight Trajectory is Down or Same.

First, it's not a stall. A stall is where you haven't seen any loss for much longer than this!

Second, low carbing might give you a big weight drop in the first week or so, but after that your progress will be like any other (good) diet - probably around 1-3lbs a week (obviously this depends on how much you weigh to start with).

As I said, weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for lack of weight loss, so I suspect this is what's happening with you.

A couple of things though - I don't know how much you weigh, so just wanted to check you're drinking enough water?

Also, you're eating a lot of cheese - be careful here because dairy can impede weight loss.

But finally, and more importantly, if you have ME, have you consulted with your GP about low carbing? I'm not a medic so can't advise, but if you're feeling weak, this doesn't sound good to me. (Assume also that you're no longer breastfeeding?)

Hi everyone,

Hope you're having a good bank holiday weekend. I wanted to share a glorious brussel sprouts recipe.

  1. quarter 300-350g of Brussels
  2. stir fry for 3-4 mn to soften
  3. pop Brussels in a bowl and squeeze over the juice of 1 lemon and some olive oil
  4. crumble 150g of Stilton and 50g of chopped toasted hazelnuts and serve

Yummmmmmmm

BIWI · 30/08/2020 14:59

Sounds lovely!

Wow, that does sound lovely!

ealingwestmum · 30/08/2020 15:24

Oooh to those Brussel sprouts! Other than pancetta and creme fraise I’ve always struggled to make them more exciting...

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 31/08/2020 09:33

Back from 3 weeks in Italy. Pleased to only gain 3lbs despite much pasta, pizza, ice cream and wine!

Back at low carb from tomorrow to lose the last 6lbs to target weight.

Glad to hear mostly good news from everyone. Will be nice not to feel like a (very short) yeti in autumn woolies 😃

Oneborneverydecade · 31/08/2020 15:22

Well done @ThinkAboutItTomorrow 1lb a week for Italy sounds pretty good

We're just back from our weekend of camping. Despite my uncertainty about what was going to be on offer most of the stalls offered salad or veggie alternatives to chips and buns. Pleased to say I was .5lb up this morning and tbh I'm putting that down to my totm.

Feeling motivated to lose 4lb and make it 2st off before schools start back

BrassicaBabe · 31/08/2020 15:39

Wow you guys! Off piste and still only 3lbs and 0.5lbs on! We've got our first family holiday (in the uk) planned for the first week of November. Based on previous experience I'm pretty sure I'll put on half a stone. And it definitely WONT be "one week on, one week off"

Which brings me to my question. @StuntNun I think this is one for you. I am bang on in the zone at the moment. Food and exercise. Thinking of signing up for a half marathon for 15th November. BUT this "half stone family holiday" is 1-7th November. If I get back to LCHF 7th to 15th how do you think I'll cope energy wise? I know I won't have lost the weight. But any idea where my body will be fat adaptation/energy wise?!

StuntNun · 31/08/2020 19:33

Brassica I don't think you'll completely lose your fat-adaption in only a week. But I don't think you should plan for a week of pure carby hedonism if you have a marathon around the corner. My recommendation would be to try to stick to low carb as best you can, even if that means making the "least worst" choice rather than good food choices.

BrassicaBabe · 31/08/2020 20:28

Thanks Stunt. I've got my menu planned...
Fish and chips
White bait and chips in duck fat
Wine
Gin
Fresh Crab burger
Moules and frites

Hmm. Need to have a rethink! 🤣🤣

Seriously though, as I suspected. Might need a rethink x

SulisMinerva · 01/09/2020 09:24

I’ve just got back from holiday - had 2 days off-piste but I’d planned those in advance. Went straight back into a fast day afterwards which brought the bloat down pretty quick. The food tasted delicious but I had horrible stomach cramps! It’s a good reminder to weigh up the after-effects and decide if they are worth it.

ShagMeRiggins · 01/09/2020 09:33

Maybe just one meal with the carbs, so a burger with bun but the rest of the day lower carb (and lower fat because if you’re going to take the carb hit the fat hit won’t help).

Whatever you do, keep drinking all the water!

ShagMeRiggins · 01/09/2020 09:34

Sorry, that was to Brassica

Takingontheworld · 01/09/2020 10:15

Home from legoland, actually all things considered it was easier than expected. Had sausage and egg and bacon in morning, survived on water and diet coke in the day to avoid theme park food and we did harvester both nights so i ordered meat dishes without their carb sides. We had a takeaway curry last night but overall aside from a few sneaky licks of the kiddos icecreams and a few haribo there was nothing hugely awful. Sneak peak says 1.5/2lbsup today but thats ok I'm not going to stress. We walked about 30k over the 2 days and I'm back on it today.

Am considering couch to 5k... any thoughts?

BIWI · 01/09/2020 11:13

C25K is a great programme. Just don't let your brain trick you into eating more food/carbs 'because I've been good and done some exercise'!
