Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well and feeling well today. I did a few 16:8 (well 17:7 as Nora pointed out!!) but today I was really hungry so I had breakfast. I did read about that fast 800 idea and I wonder if that might be fun to explore taking if you are wanting to mix it up a bit? It looked to me like after the initial phase of 800 cals then it moved to some fasting days and some more eating days. Like the 5:2 pattern.
I’ve sometimes accidentally fasted for longer days and it is interesting how you move through hunger - I think it’s partly habitual. Like (pre LC) if you have a cup of tea you feel that it comes with a biscuit. Even tho you might not have been peckish previously!
My prob at the moment is a terrible pattern of shopping! I have had all my 5 kids at home since March 16 with a brief interlude where I was in work and they were in school - but only for the hours I worked - whereas I would usually have had a day off work where they were in school when I would get stuff done. Do not to moan because I know it’s not exactly a horror story (!!) but I’m sooo exhausted now by the relentlessness of children and the messy house and the not really able to go off and do things normally and the fact my DH is working 6 days a week as he is RNLI and it’s absolutely manic down here! I don’t want to take my kids in a shop because I think it’s not right, I live in a Beautiful touristy bit of Devon so it’s bloody packed at the moment - and my DH doesn’t get back til 7 at night so I sometimes drag myself off to the supermarket then, but it is usually pretty bare cos of the extra people visiting the area. So I am struggling to keep a good supply of lc food in - it’s feast or famine!!! Anyway soz to moan - I’m just longing for a bit of a return to relative normality. Hopefully that will come with the start of term! (5 mins peace in the staff room has become my dream!)

Takingontheworld · 26/08/2020 10:04

Ah yes i was going to Google the fast 800 thing I've seen mentioned here a few times, thanks for reminding me!

Yes to wanting normality. I'm really struggling now with kids at home. I'm so exhausted physically and mentally!

devoncreamtea · 26/08/2020 11:06

It’s been so tough hasn’t it? Just the Groundhog Day of endless mess and bickering, my nerves are fraying! We all need a change and a break! Roll on autumn 🍂

BrassicaBabe · 26/08/2020 11:49

Glad I'm not the only one with "emergency pepperamis" Stunt

I hear you devon. Kids go back to school on Thursday. I'm taking 2 days off the sit quietly in the house! Or maybe I'll just clean Hmm

BrassicaBabe · 26/08/2020 11:59

I was off piste Thursday/Friday last week. Put on 4lb. Today is the first day I don't feel like I'm fighting the urge to over eat all of the time.

Mimosa1 · 27/08/2020 07:58

Hi everyone,
I've been struggling with staying on piste as well with a houseful of young kids, we tend to make pack lunches during the day and try and get out somewhere and veggie adult guests. That said, I'm doing the best I can and aiming for maintenance this week. It's helping that DH is being super strict !

Hopeislost · 27/08/2020 10:26

Sorry to hear that people are struggling. My weight has plateaued these past few weeks but I have eaten out a fair bit with EOTHO.

I went to a lovely French restaurant last night and had moules marinieres with creamed spinach instead of the fries. I didn't eat any of the bread but did have a few glasses of wine.

I'm going to reread the bootcamp rules and do a week of strict bootcamp to get me back into it. I'm glad that I haven't put any of the weight back on, but I still have lots to lose!

Takingontheworld · 27/08/2020 10:58

Well. I'm a bit confused really... as i said things went from bad to worse wed-sun, i braved the scales on the sun/monday AM i think and it was reflecting almost half a st up. Obvs i knew it wouldn't all be true weight gain but the damage was bad either way.

Been back on track a few days and couldn't resist a sneaky look just to satisfy curiosity as i was strangely not feeling like I'd gained... and I'm down 2lbs from my weight before it all went wrong... so no gain and 2lbs down showing?

I'm honestly so confused!

Will keep ploughing on but i feel like i might buy new scales? Though these are only 2 months old?

Hopeislost · 27/08/2020 11:31

@Takingontheworld Normally people only think their scales are broken when they say they've gained weight!

If I were you I'd try and forget about the blip and just KOKO. You're doing amazingly well!

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 27/08/2020 12:09

Hello everyone! I’m coming for some support! About 8yrs ago I went low carb for 6mths or so and lost a few stone, loved it and it felt like weight was falling off me. Then I got pregnant again and never got back into it. Regained about a stone over the years but then lockdown piled another stone on and I thought it was time to get back on the wagon. So, I have been doing low carb for 4 weeks exactly, I lost 7lb but today have gained 2, I have no idea why?! It’s felt really slow going this time round, and I would say I’m following the rules much more strictly this time! Last time I ate bananas and millions of nuts and tons of dairy and even the odd sweet potato mash (I’m vegetarian) and drank no more water!
This time I’ve almost totally cut out nuts, no disallowed veg, no fruit, lots of water, no milk in coffee etc. I’m basically living on eggs and salad and some cheese and cream and full fat yoghurt and butter to up the fats, and the odd veggy sausage (always under 5g per 100g) and I’m getting pretty bored. Oh AND I’ve added in 16:8!
Any help in not starting to feel really demotivated would be great please! I was doing ok thinking ok, I’ll lose 2lb a week that’s ok, but the 2lb weight gain has made me feel miserable today. Do I need to start thinking about a bigger calorie deficit? I always thought I didn’t need to worry about that on this WOE but I’m less active at the moment so maybe .. (although I feel like I’m eating far less calories)
Apologies for the essay!

AWryGiraffe · 27/08/2020 12:20

Mines coming off slower too, I'm just assuming my metabolism hates me even more than it did post having a baby

Another day, another 77.7kg showing on the scales. About 8lb down in total but I'm feeling very impatient 😤

Takingontheworld · 27/08/2020 12:28

Something about weight does strange things to my logic and usually chilled and easygoing state of mind!

I think I'm probably still struggling to believe I'm actually losing weight. Hopefully something will click when i reach further milestones. Although i thought reaching the 2st mark would, as I've gained and lost the same stone for years and getting past the 1st mark seemed a real block... but i don't feel like I've lost 2st+ and I still don't really understand my body on this WOE, you know in the way you begin to understand what it likes/doesn't like/what your boundaries and limits are etc in terms of eating and losing weight. I just feel confused on this Grin doesn't seem real somehow.

BrassicaBabe · 27/08/2020 21:56

Hmm. Haven't been drinking lots everyday. But seen to be easily creeping back to something alcohol every day. Might consider another 30 days AF 🤔

Choux · 28/08/2020 10:04

@StAlphonzospancakebreakfast weight will go up and down but there will be more downs than up so overall you will lose weight. It could be you are something a bit salty so retained water, haven't wee'd or poo'd as much since last weighing.

Read this article - the dieter has a graph of his weight each day and the 7 day trend. He had a lot of days where his weight went up temporarily.

Keep doing the right things and you will get there Smile

Choux · 28/08/2020 10:15

I am still going and recording my weight on the spreadsheet. Have lost another couple of pounds since boot camp ended and hit the 1 stone loss which has galvanised me for a tough week this week.

Am visiting my elderly parents for the first time in 6 months (yay!), so even though the food is all prepped by me it has to fit in with their preferences. So far am making protein and FLGV with the addition of potatoes for them in the evening and have just accepted I will get strange looks at lunch when I eat eggs, cheese, meats, salads which are not things they eat. They are soup, sandwich, quiche and beans type lunchers.

Every meal also has to have a dessert - lunch and dinner - so some willpower is required on my part. The house is also stuffed with cakes and biscuits. I keep reminding myself that I have lost a stone and feel better so no need to undo that with sugar.

Hope everyone has a lovely bank holiday weekend.

devoncreamtea · 28/08/2020 10:28

BrassicaBabe I’ve drunk so much alcohol lately. I need to go AF too. I’ll join you! Brew nice cups of tea only!

devoncreamtea · 28/08/2020 10:30

Good luck Choux make sure you’ve got some go to’s for yourself so you don’t succumb to pudding! Maybe berries and cream/yog?

Choux · 28/08/2020 16:27

Thanks @devoncreamtea. They eat really slowly so if I plough through the veg I can honestly say am too full for dessert.

At lunch they didn't comment that they were having soup and pork pie and I was having salmon and avocado salad. Maybe they didn't notice - which is worrying. For 'dessert' I had 1/6 of a medium pork pie so not ideal but no sugar and less pastry than a mini but whole pork pie.

Takingontheworld · 28/08/2020 17:04

Scales same say today so I'm guessing it's true 🤷‍♀️

Fingers crossed this weekend is easy to navigate. 2 x hotels and 2 days at the park.

GoldPaperStars · 28/08/2020 19:56

Ooof! I could do with a pep talk! I’ve been doing this for three weeks now, but after the initial drop I’ve not lost anything in a week and I’m still really hungry lots. None of that feeling full and not needing to eat business here!

I’m under 30g of carbs most days and not gone under 50g in three weeks. Talk me away from ordering a pizza please! Will I loose more?

AWryGiraffe · 28/08/2020 20:42

I'm not sure that's good advice

BrassicaBabe · 28/08/2020 20:57

21rhoi based on the shared purpose/ethos of this group, I'm not sure this is the thread for you 🤔

BrassicaBabe · 28/08/2020 21:00

Balls devon too late for today. I think mentally I'm heading for "feck it til Thursday". Thursday is like New Year when the kids go back to school!!

But in other news I've rediscovered my running mojo. I'm heading into week 3 of running 3 times a week again 2x 5k plus a long run. Managed 8k today. 10K planned for next Friday. Back in the zone and I feel good! Grin
