Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

With the zoom calls try to prop your laptop up slightly so you’re looking up at it rather than looking down at it! Works wonders.

I’ve been unwell most of the day, after the horrific constipation, the story of which I will never be able to share, period pains and aching limbs and exhaustion led me to eat a big bowl of granola for breakfast I’ve only been able to stomach a small plate of cauliflower cheese for the rest of the day. The cauliflower cheese talk was catching! I did mine in double cream and with grated cheddar. Might start to take magnesium since I have some in and maybe the WOE is contributing to the general unwell feeling.

Re the clothes I bought a couple of cheap bikinis in matalan (I was so excited to go into an actual shop!) and got them in my own size rather than sizing up which I usually do. It’s because I hope to go abroad for the whole summer and in the Med I feel out of place if I wear a full suit as everyone no matter what size is in bikinis. I quite like that actually, no one seems to care about size like here.

Ifeelfat · 10/06/2020 18:35

NumbsMet a bikini! Albeit a high waisted one...
Haven’t worn one in public for years but live near the coast and am not planning a holiday this year.
Practicing in the garden, but will have to shift quite a bit or there will be hoards of locals trying to push me back into the sea Grin

Freetodowhatiwant · 10/06/2020 18:36

Laughing at the rewarding poo @CalendulaAndRoses! My constipation issue was definitely more torture than reward 😂

Freetodowhatiwant · 10/06/2020 18:37

Snap with the bikini @Ifeelfat! I’m sure we will rock it, just have to be confident. Oh and not sit up 😂 lying down and standing are ok for me in a bikini, bending and sitting not so much

Takingontheworld · 10/06/2020 19:05

Ah fucksake. I accidentally ate double the celeriac i meant to (got distracted dishing up) and kicked my carbs up to 50g, double my usual. I'll have knocked myself out of ketosis now.

Ifeelfat · 10/06/2020 19:06

Freetodowhatiwant absolutely! Just not sure how we go from lying to standing without the bit in the middle Hmm

Ninkanink · 10/06/2020 19:14

@Takingontheworld, no you won’t. It’ll be fine, honestly. 20g is not a magic number when it comes to ketosis, by any means. And even if you have messed it up a little all that actually means is that your body will be a little less efficient at burning fat for the next two or three days. No big deal.

I get the impression that you’re obsessing a little too much about carb/fat/calorie intake. Relax a little and let the bootcamp rules do the work for you - nowhere on the spreadsheet of fabulousness does it say anything about double portions of celeriac scuppering everything!

NumbsMet · 10/06/2020 19:16

I really can't stop laughing at the idea of local concerned beach goers trying to push a bikini-clad woman back into the sea 😂 my kids think I've gone nuts.

I genuinely don't think I'll ever be brave enough to wear a bikini but that's something I should work on really - life's too short to be as high strung as I am about these things.

Takingontheworld · 10/06/2020 19:20

Ninkanink.. you're right. I have an acquaintance who sold me on keto and gave me the rules as it were and I followed that before finding this thread so I've been following those rules and utilizing this wonderful thread for support. But my weightloss has been 1.5lbs in 10 days since the initial huge 10lbs in 10 days! So I've been feeling like maybe being under 20/25g isn't doing me any huge wonders and I should relax and do proper bootcamp rules?

I think I'm just so scared I'll quit again!

I probably sound more obsessed than I am, the mfp is doing it all for me and I'm finding I'm naturally at the 20-25g carb mark with no effort so it's nothing major in terms of effort but i was very annoyed at "breaking the rules" with fucking celeriac 😂 not even a proper bloody chip 😂

Rshard · 10/06/2020 19:43

Also chuckling at the rewarding looking calendula, totally know what you mean!

Interested in the bikini chat, haven’t worn one since I was 18/19 but have been quite tempted to get one for in the garden - to begin with. What are the best bottoms for dealing with a csection overhang?!?

Freetodowhatiwant · 10/06/2020 21:13

Bikinis - Next do a really good range and the fold down bottoms are good for CS tummies. I’ve had two CS and miraculously didn’t get the overhang (I’ve got plenty of other issues but not that!) but it’s nice to have a higher waist I think anyway to be able to hide my lower stomach fat.

@Ifeelfat I order to get from standing to lying in a bikini one has to do this very complex manoeuvre where you try as best as possible not to bend in the middle. It might be helpful to just fall back straight into the sand. You might risk seriously Injury but it will be worth it not to have to expose the middle rolls 😂

Ifeelfat · 10/06/2020 21:14

Rshard high waisted bottoms and underwired top and you’re sorted. My stomach is huge and I have a Fantasie and it keeps me all tucked in. Can even move around, although as I said earlier sitting isn’t pretty.

Ifeelfat · 10/06/2020 21:17

Oh and I’ve had 2 CSs and an emergency appendectomy so it’s a real mess as well as being flabby. Yeah, no itsy bitsy teenie weenie bikini for me anymore...

Ifeelfat · 10/06/2020 21:18

Freetodowhatiwant 😂

BIWI · 10/06/2020 21:54

@Wormthatturned

I'd like to lose the extra chin which has recently appeared. It's really noticeable on all these zoom meetings I keep having to do these days. Lose some weight or grow a beard - menopause might give me that option!
I don't think anyone looks good on a zoom meeting!

How much celeriac did you eat?! It's only 2.2g carbs per 100g!

@Ninkanink is absolutely right! Stop obsessing about keto rules. Just relax and enjoy Bootcamp.

(And you haven't broken the rules with celeriac - it's a fabulous low carb veg)

@BrassicaBabe, and on the off chance anybody else here has given birth to twins or a larger baby; are there any tips you would give a newbie for the 'twin tum' overhang? Just to clarify, I also gained weight post pregnancy and that didn't help, so I'm sure it's gotten bigger rather and more lax than toning back up like it should have.

I've been too embarrassed to ever ask up until now, but all the talk of bikinis and c-section scars has made me very keen to get myself sorted out! Sit ups seem like an obvious solution and I've been fitting some in wherever time allows but I'm very interested to know what has worked for others?

Takingontheworld · 10/06/2020 22:47

I feel like if i mention mfp one more time you might beat with that stick 😂

I had weighed out 250g RAW then cut into chips. Dh came home but then we started discussing logistics of dog walk, kids bedtime and my scheduled zoom meeting this eve so he immediately dashed out to walk dog and i put it all on my plate, i got half way through realised... but the weighed amount left over was only like 35g. Which seemed odd. Do they get lighter once cooked? Either way mfp said I'd burned my ketosis to the ground in a celeriac carb fest..

Exhausted now. 2 hr work meeting. God I miss working in the day. Homeschooling is ruining me.

Takingontheworld · 10/06/2020 22:48

Also, after having 2 days of agonising poop. Literally like giving birth again... today I've needed 3!? Wtaf is going on. I didn't even do the dog walk Grin

BIWI · 10/06/2020 22:53

@Takingontheworld

I had weighed out 250g RAW

I have no idea what you mean about this.

STOP OBSESSING ABOUT BLOODY CELERIAC AND MFP!

NumbsMet · 10/06/2020 23:35

Obviously I know we're not supposed to worry about things like celeriac, but I have to say I find it fascinating that people following this woe are stressing about eating 'the wrong' vegetables rather than a bag of crisps or chocolate. That really says a lot for how satisfying the food must be!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/06/2020 00:06

STOP OBSESSING ABOUT BLOODY CELERIAC AND MFP!

Grin

BIWI is shouting. It's serious.

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 00:08

More serious than the big stick!!

venusandmars · 11/06/2020 06:37

Grrr... where did my precious sleep go?

Dh and I had relaxed evening, off to bed, read our books, fell asleep. Two hours later and we're both wide awake, so he got up and made us both a cup of peppermint tea.

Drank tea, chatted, read book, fell asleep. Both awake again at 5.30am. He's got dressed and gone for a walk, I've tried to snooze but to no avail. Been planning for for the next few days instead and it's made me hungry!

Plan for today:
To break fast at 11.30 with creamy coffee
L - avocado, cheese, loads of salad veg (lettuce, rocket, cucumber, celery, radish) plus olive oil and mayonnaise
D - omlette with pak choi and mushrooms

Just to add to the conversations on gut and bowel issues. On this woe I have a quiet, peaceful tummy. Add in biscuits, crisps, bread and I gurgle and fart for hours Blush
