Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

I love that.

A butter day keeps the nasty away.

@ealingwestmum - re the water consumption/peeing - I am exactly the same. Usually 2 visits to loo per night (during what should be sleep time) 3 or 4 last night ( think I drank too much of my water in the evening yesterday - trying to front load it more today) - also going through menopause so know what you mean about the already broken sleep.

Only decent night sleep I've had in the last while was when I had a few days where I needed to take an antihistamine for a slight rash - I slept right through like a baby - am very tempted to take one occasionally just to get that decent kip tbh! No idea what happened to all the liquids those nights but it does make me think it's probably as much about us waking up regularly anyway and then just noticing we need a wee, maybe the actual need to wee isn't great enough to wake us - if that makes any sense at all...

venusandmars · 10/06/2020 11:53

Shivering in my office today, but it looks as though it might warm up again next week. Trying to use that as motivation to get lots of tasks done now, so that next week I can get out and about and enjoy the better weather. And sticking to this woe if I'm having to put my shorts on again.

B - boiled egg (been doing I/F mostly but the cold, grey, rainy weather made me long for something warm and comforting
L - avocado salad
D - salmon and chorizo with asparagus

ShagMeRiggins · 10/06/2020 11:55

Repeat up to three times if you're feeling all jolly hockey sticks about it.

I love the British. Grin

Randomfatty · 10/06/2020 11:58

Shivering too, lunch soon - some leftover kale salad and fish for lunch, and paneer curry for dinner with loads of green veg. I’ll try and jump on the treadmill for 30mins as it’s miserable outside! ☔️😢

ShagMeRiggins · 10/06/2020 12:01

@Freetodowhatiwant

Who mentioned suppositories for constipation and what were they called? I get it really badly particularly when I have a period and it’s just snuck up on me 😱
Probably me. Not so much a brand name but what you’re after is glycerin suppositories. I find they’re hit or miss availability in UK chemists but can be ordered from Amazon.

They’re a last resort for me and here comes TMI: wet the suppository, insert it, and within 15 minutes you will need the loo.

Yes, they can have an explosive effect but essentially the glycerin is breaking up the stool that has become too rigid to pass from your system.

In my experience there will be an initial go and then possibly a few more within the next hour as the softer waste that had been sitting on top has had a chance to move through your intestinal tract and will also be ready for elimination.

I do use them sparingly, maybe twice in the past six months. But by god do they work.

Makes perfect sense @CalendulaAndRoses, thank you. Good to hear the antihistamine did the trick at least once for you to get some sleep. I think I'm one of the odd few that reacts the opposite way and gets totally wired (don't try them on a long haul flight if not sure)!!

Linnet · 10/06/2020 13:16

How do I make the flourless cheese sauce please? I’m planning on making cauliflower cheese as part of dinner tonight. I have cream cheese, cream and cheddar in the fridge, do I just melt it all together in a pot and that’s it?

Rshard · 10/06/2020 13:20

Sorry to hear about the experience numbsmet, there certainly is some spiteful people around, not on this thread though, of course.

Those exercises look very doable athlestane, I’ve been trying to run but like to go first thing however I’m reluctant to set a a alarm to run when I don’t need to get up for work etc. I don’t sleep late but am so enjoying waking up naturally at the moment

venusandmars · 10/06/2020 13:42

@ealingwestmum I mistakenly bought antihistamines that also had decongestant in them containing phenylephedrine or pseudoephedrine. My eyes were so wide awake that my eyeballs actually hurt Football Football Now I steer clear of anything marked as 'non-drowsy'.

venusandmars · 10/06/2020 13:43

Those were meant to be two big wide-awake staring eyes btw, not footballs Grin

Thank you @ShagMeRiggins I will get some in. I’ve had a hideous morning dealing with it. Feel so ill now.

I broke the woe and had a bowl of granola with milk I couldn’t stomach anything else and was in such discomfort. I’m not beating myself up too much about it as I’ve been in bed I’ve felt so bad. Will be back on track now.

Anyone else bought some new clothes? I’m an advertisers dream at the moment as have clicked and bought on several ads 😳 on the plus side I’ve had a couple of dresses arrive today and they look good! I do look a bit slimmer despite the scales not really showing it yet this week. I blame the period —and the awful constipation—

I put 300ml double cream in a pan and bring gently to the boil, then chuck in a load of grated mature cheddar, stir as it melts - taste to make sure there's enough cheese in there for your taste - then season with black pepper and the juice of half a lemon. Makes all the difference to the taste!

It doesn't necessarily thicken up though - but it might be thicker if you use cream cheese (I don't know as I haven't made it that way)

Thank you all for all the cheese sauce recipes, I fancy cauliflower cheese as well. I finally feel like I'm getting over the excessive tiredness and I don't even feel like napping this afternoon!

devoncreamtea · 10/06/2020 15:07

@linnet I’ve tried the cream cheese way and it is a touch thicker, I added cream too though. And cheddar. You will find a recipe on Diet Doctor I expect - I use a splodge and splash as my measuring system so not massively accurate 🤣

prettybird · 10/06/2020 15:33

You're all putting me in mind of cauliflower cheese - but I used up my cauliflower yesterday Wink (just plain, microwaved with plenty of butter and served with a griddled turkey steak).

It's currently peeing down here - so much so that I can't get out the house to walk along to get some more milk as the puddles in the street are so large. And it's cold Sad I'd been planning on Greek Salad tonight Hmm should have checked the weather forecast Wink To make matters worse, dh will be having his with a freshly baked loaf of sourdough (my first one using a banneton). Still, I'm in the Zone and won't be tempted Halo

Linnet · 10/06/2020 15:39

Thanks for the cheese sauce recipes, I’ll try them and see how I get on.

OneFootintheRave · 10/06/2020 16:34

Evening all

I'm KOKO and Grin at the tales of the "big guns" laxatives. I have also been noticing the reduction in frequency of ahem, number 2's, also smaller and less urgent than the big carby dumps! It's the same as when I give DDog the higher quality biscuits. He goes way less often and it's easier to pick up so I suspect the cheap brands are bulked out with something carby and the better ones contain more protein.

I'm sort of glad I don't have access to a scales and instead have marked progress by fitting into a dress that was slightly too tight. One of my main goals is to reduce my blood pressure which is still stuck around 135/85 so when I go back to the GP in six weeks I will jump on her scales again.

This WOE does fit in with my partner and I'm enjoying it with only a few cheats. I had two glasses of red wine last Saturday at a mini- gathering and today I ate 4 crisps from DP's plate. Normally I am a daily wine drinker so I'm not beating myself up.

In general, FF greek yoghurt is my go-to snack and I'm using the mini Weber gas BBQ a lot to get max flavour on my grilled meat and veg. Had an amazing Thai style salad last night with loads of mixed leaves, spinach, a few cherry toms, cucumber a little shredded carrot, baby corn dressed with ginger, sesame oil, chillies, lime and fish sauce, topped off with a mouth-watering rare steak. Tonight, home made burgers with grilled padron peppers for me.

All the support on this thread is a real inspiration. I have dabbled a few times in the past but never really stuck to anything. Thanks to all of you! x

NumbsMet · 10/06/2020 17:06

Evening all 👋🏻

I just remembered that I had some white fish fillets in the freezer, the excitement was palpable. I microwaved a couple with a sprinkle of salt and lemon juice or no lemon juice if it's not allowed on this woe just ignore that part, it didn't happen.

I had it with some coleslaw made with yoghurt which was absolutely lovely. For daytime meals it's very important that I can share what's on my plate with my twins so I was very glad that they enjoyed it too - I actually feel so much better sharing lovely healthy food with them! For me that's such a big positive. I'm very lucky they're not old enough to tell me they want waffles and beans 😂

So anyway, I bobbed on to share my lunch (as I know everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting for that update Grin) and to say thank you again to everyone for helping me to stay positive.

For those with a larger amount of weight/ a couple of dress sizes to lose - what are you looking forward to treating yourself to when you reach you goal? I don't mean food wise; is anyone treating themselves to a new dress? Wearing jeans instead of leggings?

I'd say I have about 4 more stone to lose after the progress I've already made. I'm looking forward to, strangely enough, spending around £30 at Primark on some smaller vests, maybe a dress, and smaller leggings. I'm really excited about it!! I'd love to hear what other people are looking forward to.

Takingontheworld · 10/06/2020 17:09

I want a minimum of 4st off.

For me it's not feeling reluctant to go out for long walks or hot holidays for fear of being a fat sweaty mess. I just can't wait to feel comfortable

NumbsMet · 10/06/2020 17:17

Oh yes I can second that one - I avoid walking longer distances to shops etc when it's hot because I feel so embarrassed at how sweaty I get. I can't wait to feel more comfortable!!

Wormthatturned · 10/06/2020 17:35

I'd like to lose the extra chin which has recently appeared. It's really noticeable on all these zoom meetings I keep having to do these days. Lose some weight or grow a beard - menopause might give me that option!

Hopeislost · 10/06/2020 18:15

@NumbsMet I asked about lemon juice previously and it's ok 👍

I'm looking forward to fitting into my smart work clothes again. When I went back to work after maternity leave I was still wearing my maternity clothes and didn't feel confident 🤦‍♀️ I have some nice dresses from Hobbs and a suit that I would like to fit back into by the time we're back in the office. Two dress sizes to go though!

CalendulaAndRoses · 10/06/2020 18:19

I remember losing a decent amount of weight some years back - only some of which has gone back on since - and the best thing was the enhanced mobility and comfort factor. Until it was gone I honestly couldn't have predicted how much better I would feel. Definitely something to look forward to @NumbsMet and @Takingontheworld.

I'm another one who hates looking at myself in those frigging zoom meetings. I don't know what the camera does but it isn't pleasant. Always impressed by how much others on the call seem to still resemble actual humans while I look like I am not sure what

I'm a bit confused. According to scales I have lost half a stone since the start of bootcamp, but I tried on a pair of jeans earlier and they are no looser. However I suppose I have to admit to myself I have not worn jeans since lock down started so it is possible, if not likely, that the lockdown snacking and drinking wine from morning til night damage was worse than I had thought.

In terms of the pooing, since we are on that delicate subject, reporting in that mine also are much less frequent, maybe every 3 days now, but more "rewarding" when they do occur. This is actually a real joy for me (sad life I know) as previously I had IBS-D (- ie the variant with diarrohea) and might go up to 20 times a day on occasion. So this is a big win now if only the bloating would disappear too (though I must say it's a tonne better, pardon the pun)
