Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

I've been cruising at the same weight this week, but still feeling good- plenty of nsws. Have treated myself to these beauties- wanted them for ages, and now they are on sale. So happy! www.endource.com/product/whistles-corinna-velvet-trousers/WcYi18nnfAABXOFT?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYL3BRDVARIsAF9E4Ge9JXgl1bs064ZqrDnvrDBG0VFiH_qdEkDP5h8AyK_bo8tU_C65bcoaAggHEALw_wcB

Feeling irritable and tired this morning, baby has been up since 3.30am.

I'm 2 black decaf coffee's and 1.5L of water down already.

I'm going to do 20 mins on the spin bike, have a shower hot enough to scald me and have breakfast this morning.

Hope everyone has a good day!

venusandmars · 11/06/2020 07:03

takingontheworld I don't understand why you feel this either way mfp said I'd burned my ketosis to the ground in a celeriac carb fest..

If you follow BIWI's carb count then even eating the whole 250g is about 5/6g of carb. That's not going to stop fat burning, and a good veg like celeriac is exactly where our healthy carbs come from.

I had a fiddle around with mfp and they have a whole range of values from 1.4g carbs, to 5g for celeriac chips, right up to 14.4g carb - I can only assume that the final one had celeriac mashed with marshmallows and maple syrup!!

I guess what I'm saying is that mfp uses numbers (I won't even call it data) from a massive range of different places, and they are not all correct. If you follow bootcamp rules and eat mostly from the 'green' list of veg, then it's a long-term healthy way to live, and a hell of a lot easier than chasing the numbers in mfp (which for me can lead to ignoring my body's natural appetites and decrease to overall goodness and sustainability of lchf eating).

Like you, I learned about keto diet before I found bootcamp and I had to wean myself off my obsession with macros. My very first post on my first bc I got a bollocking from BIWI for posting a recipe for coconut fat bombs which contained chocolate, peanut butter, suger substitute.. I've learned since then Grin

Puppermint · 11/06/2020 07:12

@NumbsMet planking is great for a c section overhang. Just need to make sure your form is good and that you don't try to hold it for so long that you start to lose it, otherwise you won't be working the right muscles. There are loads of plank challenges online, which can be quite good but they do move quite fast (from 30 secs to 5 mins in 30 days!) so if you're new to it, I'd suggest sticking with a time til you're finding it easier then moving on. There's also loads of different variants depending on which muscles you want to target.

Stupid scales are refusing to budge at all this week and I'm starting to get a bit fed up. I need to feel like I'm getting results so it's disheartening to still see the same weight that I saw on Monday when I hop on. I know the answer is to stop looking but it's not quite that simple...

Thursdays are a bit weird at the minute as I have an exercise class at 7.30 which I don't like to eat before and my eating window shuts at 8pm so too late to eat when I get back. I have a plan but it might earn me a whack from @BIWI's stick.

L: omelette with lardons, asparagus, spinach, mushrooms, feta and pine nuts with extra butter melted on top (did it this way when DH cooked one for me earlier this week and didn't add enough fat and it was amazeballs)
D: Fast diet protein shake

Puppermint · 11/06/2020 07:15

Thanks for the tip @venusandmars

Rshard · 11/06/2020 07:23

Thanks freetodowhatiwant and ifeelfat for the bikini advice

Those trousers are a bargain burnshersnurfs!

Takingontheworld · 11/06/2020 07:32

Yes it said my celeriac portion was a gazillion carbs! Maybe I was in range after all...

😳 Oh no, I made BIWI shout!

venusandmars yes this sounds like I need to readjust. I'm going to see if I can get the spreadsheets printed so I can have to hand and then adjust my mindset. Should I sack off tracking food entirely?

SparklesAllOver · 11/06/2020 08:17

Checking in - woke up feeling more normal, made a tasty supper last night, fried up mushrooms in butter, removed them from pan, cooked salmon fillet, added a dollop of chives cream cheese, put mushrooms back in for a few mins, seasoned then served on a bed off broccoli rice - it was delicious. Whilst making another sauce which needed wine, even managed not to pour a glass, feel good about that and actually starting to enjoy this way of eating. BIWI, when bootcamp is over, can we continue with lchf during the week and relax it at weekends, or will this mess everything up?

prettybird · 11/06/2020 08:20

TakingOnTheWorld Should I sack off tracking food entirely?

YES!!!!!!! Grin

NigellaAwesome · 11/06/2020 08:44

@Takingontheworld I am still using MFP to keep an eye on (not count). I find it useful because sometimes I can get a bit carried away, even within the rules. For example, on BC lite, when we can move to some nuts, I was troughing a bag of macadamias, oblivious to the fact they were almost 1k calories per bag (which even within the rules is far too much and is more in the line of 'fuck-tonne' rather than 'some').

But I think it depends on your mindset. I'm happy with an approximation and don't fuss too much about the numbers - they are just there as a safety net to keep me going off the rails IYKWIM? I also find it good for keeping track of water and weight. I think if you are stressing over celeriac chips being too many, then you are maybe being too literal?

Ifeelfat · 11/06/2020 08:59

BIWI, when bootcamp is over, can we continue with lchf during the week and relax it at weekends, or will this mess everything up?

^ This. I’m interested too, thinking ahead. Although I’m loving this now I know myself and that I get ‘bored’ almost. It’s mainly the wine though tbf. I suspect that BIWI will say we kind of stay on boot camp lite. No point in going ‘back’ to our old WOE as that’ll just pile it on again.
22 days AF now thanks to boot camp, haven’t don’t that since I was pregnant 17 years ago!

devoncreamtea · 11/06/2020 09:06

@Takingontheworld why don’t you try a whole week of not tracking at all, just sticking to rules, and see how you feel? You can always decide to go back to tracking, but it might help you to trust the process more and enjoy it more too. Flowers

Nothing to report here except that water yesterday dropped off a bit and I feel desiccated this morning Grin
Must drink water!!

prettybird · 11/06/2020 09:22

Ifeelfat hope you change that name soon

Those of us who've not reached target tend to continue on Boot Camp or Boot Camp Light (Light either just at weekends or 100% of the time). There's an ongoing thread to act as support & chat.

If we've reached target then we need to work out what Maintenance means for us, as we're all different. Some of us will stay on Boot Camp Light but not get uptight about the odd carby off-pistedness. Others will plan a specific day when they can eat a pizza or some sourdough bread (Wink - guess what I'm looking forward to Grin).

Some of that depends on when you're an Abstainer or Moderator. I'm a Moderator - but as long as it's only a day or maximum two Wink

BlusteryShowers · 11/06/2020 09:27

Peeped at the scales today and I'm 2lb down so hoping I can keep it off til Monday! I'm 0.25lb away from being back in the 12s.

Bought a tape measure earlier this week too, but I've decided to measure monthly to hopefully keep my focus. My baby belly plus spare tyre is my area of focus. I HATE that it gives me a square arse!

Just planning teas for next week as well:
Pork Belly with sautéed cabbage
Chicken wrapped in parma ham with buttery brussels and celeriac mash
Chicken wings with braised peas https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/deep-friedchickennwings91652

NumbsMet · 11/06/2020 09:36

@Puppermint thank you! I will definitely be trying that this week, it actually sounds like a great thing to do even in the room with my toddlers so that's an added bonus!

@Takingontheworld actually something that was mentioned a few posts ago reminded me of this, it could be helpful for you:

As far as I'm aware, MFP gets the nutritional values mostly from people entering in their own versions of the foods they're eating and sometimes they're not labelled correctly. So eg: the celeriac you selected on MFP might have been someone's celeriac chips recipe using flour or something, we have no idea sometimes! So what I normally do, is go on to a supermarket website, search for that food, and the nutritional values are there. Then I match that with the correct nutritional value on the app. Often I search for the item from the supermarket I bought it from, so 'Sainsbury's celeriac'. It makes it so much easier to verify the nutritional content. If you plan to continue using MFP then this will help you to feel a lot better about what you're eating!

And then of course as lots of other people are suggesting, try giving yourself a break from the app Smile you're doing everything right, you don't need an app to tell you that, plus BIWI's advice is so thorough!!

bibliomania · 11/06/2020 09:59

Weight slightly up. Probably due to a certain sluggishness in terms of, ahem, output, as others have noted, but possibly also it's the dairy. A tub of clotted cream may have been a mite excessive.

moleeye · 11/06/2020 10:27

@bibliomania I've done the same this week a whole tub of whipped double cream to myself on Monday 😱(300ml).

Have steered clear of it, although there is another tub of double cream and clotted cream in the fridge. The cream is going in moussaka on Sunday and the clotted cream has another couple weeks on it yet so I'm hoping for a little more discipline before I open it!!!

LostaraYil · 11/06/2020 10:35

I failed at IF today, I was so hungry I had to eat by 10am. I blame it on AF. I also had to share my bacon with both boys, DS(18) came back from a very wet socially distanced night out camping with friends as I was cooking, so I only ended up with two rashers as I thought it would be kind to give him a bacon sandwich to soak up residual booze.

NigellaAwesome · 11/06/2020 10:36

I'm looking forward to mashed sardines topped with melted cheese for lunch.

I was up early this morning, so lunch feels aaages away.

devoncreamtea · 11/06/2020 10:45

🤣 at Bibliomania’s clotted cream incident!

devoncreamtea · 11/06/2020 11:02

@LostaraYil that was very kind and generous of you!! I bet he appreciated it after a night in a tent in this weather!

bibliomania · 11/06/2020 11:03

It does put Taking's celeriac indulgence into perspective, devon. Glad I'm not alone, mole.

BrassicaBabe · 11/06/2020 11:08

Pretty I'm definitely an abstainer! I can't be trusted to have clotted cream in the house. I'm better not having it at all. Same as multi packs for crisps. Never buy therm. The kids have to go without. I buy them treats I'm happy to avoid Grin Crisps are not safe in my house! I don't buy peanut butter either. While
PB is allowed in Lite I cannot be trusted not to eat PB freely with a spoon. Which by the way is improved massively if you have half a spoon of clotted cream and half a spoon of PB Grin

Linnet · 11/06/2020 11:09

Just wanted to let you know I made the cheese sauce with the cream, some cream cheese and loads of grated cheddar. It turned out really nice and cheesy and although it was a little bit runny it was fine. Dd2 said it was nicer than when I make it with flour and should make it that way for macaroni cheese too! Best part is there is some cauliflower cheese left over so I’m having it for lunch 😁

BIWI · 11/06/2020 11:11

Firstly, thank you everyone for not laughing (at least not publicly) for my inability to understand that RAW meant raw. Blush. I thought it was some fancy abbreviation Grin

But second, yes, you definitely need to readjust - which means not tracking your food the way you are doing.

I really don't like MFP because it's so often inaccurate - and seems to be even more so when it comes to carb counts.

And I totally agree with @NumbsMet:

I have to say I find it fascinating that people following this woe are stressing about eating 'the wrong' vegetables rather than a bag of crisps or chocolate.
