would it really work to lose weight if you kept totally low carb but were packing away like 3K calories a day on a load of cheese. Surely the amount of calories factor in some way?
Well yes, of course they do. But, in reality, who would eat that much cheese every day?! The whole point of Bootcamp is that we eat normal food, in normal quantities.
The whole plan is based on eating fresh/unprocessed protein (if you're a carnivore, of course) and plenty of vegetables and salads, with good fats.
Cheese is perfect on Bootcamp, but not really in massive quantities - as posted in the rules, we do need to be careful with dairy.
Why we focus on low carb/high fat is because we're aiming to keep our blood sugar levels stable. And this is where the calorie thing is important - a calorie of fat will have little/no impact on your blood sugar levels as it won't provoke a spike of insulin. Whereas a calorie of carbohydrate will. So carbohydrate calories are much less desirable than fat calories, IYSWIM.
