In cauliflower news, H went to Iceland this morning and got me 2 large ones for 1.50. So I am about to try a cauliflower base for pizza. I can’t face a meatza - I had 2 burgers last night and I am still feeling beefed out.

Freetodowhatiwant · 07/06/2020 17:10

Can someone just post me a cauliflower pizza base please...? I’m a terrible cook!

MrsKoala · 07/06/2020 17:43

Well I’ve just put the ‘crust’ in the oven and I’m not convinced...

NumbsMet · 07/06/2020 17:50

Hello 👋🏻

How is everyone doing? I'm interested to see how the cauliflower crust goes @MrsKoala!

On my mega-trip to Sainsbury's today I found a pasta sauce/bolognese sauce that specifically says 'no added sugar or sweetener', I bought some and will report on how it tastes later this week. I thought it may be interesting to people who aren't always in the mood to create a sauce from scratch and need something quick so as to 'stay on the wagon'. Photo attached Grin

I buy that sauce for the kids but I think it has carrot in it?

MrsKoala · 07/06/2020 17:58

Here are the bases after 15 mins in the oven.

Looking good @MrsKoala! I hope they hit the 'pizza crust' spot that you're after. I believe the sauce does have carrot in it - please tell me that's not another food item that I've mistakenly been eating?! (I guess if it is, then when I cut that out the diet might work even better?)

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 07/06/2020 18:03

I always find that men lose it much easier than women do, unfortunately. Not sure if there’s any science in it. It’s annoying I know.

Yeah, he isn't sticking to the rules anywhere near as strictly as I have been and is still losing, its depressing!

I mean, I'm pleased for him, but when he's snaffling handfuls of nuts, and eating regular ice lollies (9g of carbs), having "the odd roast potato" with his dinner, yoghurt with fruit in it, not really drinking much water but still having tea with sweeteners and regular milk etc it's quite annoying to hear that its still working for him!

Whereas I'm checking the labels on anything I buy, choosing the lowest carb of everything I can find, drinking my water like a good 'un and still stalled this week. Urghh. Well, I'll KOKO as they say in these parts!

BrassicaBabe · 07/06/2020 18:03

I'll leave you with this one for now Grin

I have to say I refuse to pretend that I’m eating pizza. Nothing else even comes close.

That said, I hope you enjoy it!

MrsKoala · 07/06/2020 18:07

Afraid so. No carrots on BC.

NumbsMet · 07/06/2020 18:09

@MarkRuffaloCrumble that sounds SO disheartening Sad in fairness to you, I wouldn't have the willpower to keep pushing on with the correct woe if I was constantly dealing with that so I'm very impressed. By any chance, does he have significantly more weight to lose than you?

I've always appreciated the analogy that the extra weight you carry is like carrying large shopping bags. If he's carrying more bags than you, it's technically more exercise and he's likely to lose more to start off with. But not throughout the weight loss journey.

NumbsMet · 07/06/2020 18:11

Aargh! I'm sorry BIWI, please go easy on me, I have two under two BlushGrin

prettybird · 07/06/2020 18:20

A small amount of carrot is ok. For example, the coleslaw recipe has a finely grated carrot as that then goes a long way in the mix, alongside the finally chopped cabbage and spring onions. Smile

burratabitch · 07/06/2020 18:31

We are having Chinese tonight. I've gone for stir fried mixed veg, crispy seaweed and fried tofu in black bean so hopefully that's not too bad.The seaweed from this place doesn't use sugar and it's yum!

I would usually have a chow mien but hopefully won't miss it. What is on everyone's menus this evening?

BrassicaBabe · 07/06/2020 18:34

@NumbsMet I looked up the pasta sauce. 5.3g carbs per 100g. I'd eat it. I think the general guide is under 6g per 100g is fine.

NumbsMet · 07/06/2020 18:47

@BrassicaBabe @prettybird thank you for clarifying that for me! What I will probably do is eat the sauce with DP this week and then make more of a conscious effort to cut out carrots completely, as previously I had been adding a couple to a tray of roasted vegetables for a vegetable traybake dinner. I'm learning, I appreciate being pulled up on these things too, thank you Smile

Puppermint · 07/06/2020 18:56

@MarkRuffaloCrumble my DH is the same. He's been doing IF and eating mostly low carb but has been having carrot and houmous, lots of dairy and barely drinking water. And he's lost 11lb already (not overweight really either - 13st 10 at 6ft 2). I've just resigned myself to the fact that men lose faster than women but it is frustrating and I feel your pain.

Yumsnet · 07/06/2020 19:30

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling great @BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls hope you feel better soon.

I love the look of the cauliflower crust!

Today, I’ve had my best dinner so far - roast chicken leg and creamed kale. I thought I hated kale, but with butter, cheese, mustard and cream Grin it was delicious!

Thinking I need to work on portion sizes too, I tend to be a bit of a greedy guts.

MrsKoala · 07/06/2020 19:32

Yes, cheers BrassicaBabe and prettybird, that’s handy to know. I’ve not allowed anything which may contain carrot at all in the diet. So it’s nice to know there’s a little wiggle room.

My ‘pizza’ was nice. Not really pizza like tho. Like a thin frittata. The base wasn’t crispy at all. So maybe I need to cook the base for longer first. It was good tho and I’ll do it again when everyone else is having pizza.

Today has been a bit processed and repetitive: had chorizo, spinach and mushroom baked eggs for breakfast. A weird picnic combo of sausage, cheese, peperami and green salad for lunch and a pepperoni cauliflower pizza and more green salad for dinner. I feel very egg and spicy meated out.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 07/06/2020 19:35

Thanks for the solidarity all!

We both have a lot to lose to be fair. He’s aiming for 3 stone to get into the overweight instead of obese category and I’m probably the same, although I haven’t checked! I guess I just need to concentrate on my own shit and try not to compare, with him or anyone else. We all do it in our own time I suppose.

BIWI · 07/06/2020 19:46

@MrsKoala

Actually, that's not really true! As long as you take the carb count into account, you can have carrots occasionally.

That pasta sauce is 6.6g per serving (assuming that a serving is a 1/4 of a jar, so it's not too bad. Obviously it depends what else you're having with it though!

@Freetodowhatiwant

Re wine i know it’s not allowed but those asking if it really messes things up. I had one glass of red last Saturday and two glasses of red this Saturday. I know it’s not part of the plan but I’m living in a very stressful situation, separating during lockdown. Actually it wasn’t the stress that really got me in the end but just it felt like it took the edge off a bit

All the time you're drinking alcohol, you are stopping your body from burning fat.

However, the more important thing here is trying to break the link between food/drink and emotional reward. It's really tough, but trying to move away from seeing food and drink as some kind of emotional crutch is key.

BIWI I'm here to confess.

Earlier I told DH I'd almost lost a stone, and he didn't miss a beat in retorting "I've lost count of how many times you've said that!" He instantly apologised and I tried to joke that its true. The 2nd stone appears to be my nemesis.

But my stupid brain has let it niggle me all day and I've just eaten 4 squares of 90% lindt dark choc, about 3 tablespoons of mascarpone and a big cup of diet lemonade.

It could have been way worse given I was roasting everyone goosefat potatoes Sad but I resisted and actually really liked my celeriac! But I still feel annoyed at myself. I'm within carbs, and not crazy kcals. But I'm annoyed at myself for the reaction.

I wish I'd never ever said anything outloud. I knew my own brain would screw me. Why am I so messed up in the head over this stuff!?!? If i could just get past that 2st mark I know I'd be on my way.

BIWI · 07/06/2020 19:58

OK - stop panicking. It could have been a lot worse! All those are not really that bad in the great scheme of things.

But you really do need to ask yourself why you feel the need to use food as comfort!
