Cashew butter Sad
I put it on the roast chicken. It was so nice!

Hopeislost · 03/06/2020 14:11

I've been feeling grotty again the last few days and thought I had a second bout of carb flu, until af just arrived 🤦‍♀️

prettybird · 03/06/2020 14:24

I know we're not calorie counting any more but the fact that we did last week has helped my mindset this week Smile It has meant that whenever I think of snacking, I ask myself, "Are you really hungry? If not, then they're just empty additional calories, even if [whatever I was thinking of snacking on] is technically within the HFLC Rules" Wink

And more often than not, the answer is No so I make myself drink a glass of water instead Grin

prettybird · 03/06/2020 14:27

Exshield - you have now seen why nuts are verboten in Boot Camp Ordinaire (and cashews are amongst the carbiest of nuts Shock). Prepare yourself for the Bigus Stickus from BIWI Wink

ExShield and kakiqueen I don't see much in the way of veg in either of your food lists...

Veg are where we get our carbs from, and also so many nutrients. This is supposed to be a HEALTHY way of eating. So asparagus (with butter), heaps of fresh spring spinach (with butter), cauliflower (roasted in olive oil), avocado, celery, mushrooms, watercress, olives, cabbage, broccoli, bean sprouts, baby corn, pak choi...

If I ate lots of butter cream and eggs I would be deep in ketosis but I wouldn't feel so great. For me seeing my veg drawer stuffed with green things (with a few tomatoes or peppers for a pop of red accent) makes me feel healthy, before I even enjoy eating it.

venusandmars · 03/06/2020 15:24

This can be a way of life, not a short term weight loss approach. So even last week in strict BC I was trying to eat 4 or 5 different veg every day - even if that's just adding a couple of mushrooms to an omlette, chucking a couple of handfuls of spinach into a beef chilli, or serving chicken thighs on spiralised courgetti noodles.

venusandmars · 03/06/2020 15:31

And if you're short of ideas for veg, and bored of spinach, cauliflower, avocado, have a look at Dr Ranjan Chaterjee's vegetable alphabet

1stMrsF · 03/06/2020 15:38

Just checking in as my mind had started to wander towards the snack cupboard at work...
B - creamy coffee
L - leftover barbecued pork steaks (and a sausage), salad leaves, & avocado with dressing and hm coleslaw
D - I'm going to make Moussaka (something similar to the IPD one on the recipe threads, but I like to make my topping with FF greek yoghurt rather than cream). Will serve with ts broccoli roasted in coconut oil.

I'm going to cook the base of a Shepherd's Pie whilst I'm browning lamb mince, and stick that in the freezer, so I'll just have to top with swede mash on another day when I've got less time for cooking.

Hello again. Please may I check if soya milk is ok as it has such a low carb count?
Thank you.[/quote]
Yes it is.

And yes, definitely have some yoghurt (full fat!) and try a hot, salty drink as well.

If it is unbearable, then increase your carbs a little. I'm concerned that you're keeping your carbs as low as you are, and like @venusandmars says, there's not much veg in your daily menu.

@ExShield

Ignore the timings, I put it all in at the end of the day, but this is what I had.
Firstly - FORGET THE CALORIES!

We're not counting calories on Bootcamp.

Second - nuts aren't allowed in this first (or next) week.

And third - where is your veg?! Have you read Bootcamp rules? Go back and read rule 4.

(Is that enough Big Stick waving?!)

Hello everyone.

Started Bootcamp Light, just having a handful of blueberries and strawberries. Weight was going back up again! So went back on pretty much what I was doing last week.

Just had a call from the IVF clinic and my oestrogen levels are really high so although I’m having eggs collected, I can’t have an embryo put back in this month as they’re worried about ovarian hyperstimulation. Pretty gutted but trying to stay positive 👍

csa26 · 03/06/2020 17:08

Also my ketone levels are really high. Don’t know how to get them down without ending back in carb-burning again. Could be that I haven’t been drinking enough...

yoikes · 03/06/2020 17:16

Hi,
Can you do 16:8 IF with low carb?
I'm really struggling with my weight gain (I'm 81kgs) :(
I know lowcarb works (lost 20lbs a few years ago) and it really helped my sugar cravings.
But......
Not sure if its lockdown, age, or what but I'm struggling to get going :(
Also, any tips for those who can't war cheese or yoghurt!!!!?

DyingDeclaration · 03/06/2020 17:53

Hello just checking in again. I weighed in Monday and I'm down 5.5 pounds which is great. Well done everyone else with the losers!

One quick question, I've been doing lots exercise which has hopefully helped but as I've been trying to do it first thing, have had a banana first things to get me through it. Is this low enough carb - or is there something better. Can't get going on a completely empty stomach!

Does anyone have

Ninkanink · 03/06/2020 17:57

Banana is definitely not low carb enough!!

Read the rules...no fruit!

It’s best to either ease off a bit and accept that you’re not going to match your usual performance, or in some cases just walk for the first couple of weeks (depending on how badly you’re suffering with the dreaded carb flu/fatigue). Once you become fat adapted you won’t need carbs for fuel, but that’s not going to happen if you have a banana first thing every day.

Freetodowhatiwant · 03/06/2020 18:09

I’m finding my energy for exercise is much lower but like @nink says i think it’s better to not worry too much about that whilst we are in this phase. People tend to over estimate the impact of exercise on weight loss, it’s far more about diet unfortunately. Exercise is really important for health of course but I am facing that whilst i am in this stage for me I’m not going to break any personal best records. I miss the gym in fact as I love lifting heavy weights and previously when I’ve done IF and LC I’ve still been ok with these even though I struggle more with cardio.

I feel really full today. I’ve been trying to make the tuna burgers but I’m a terrible cook and must have got the portions wrong as it was too runny. It made quite a tasty big pile of tuna mess though.

I’m feeling full so worried I’ve eaten too much but I don’t think I have. I can’t actually remember what I have had but all I have in the house is veg, eggs, cheese and tuna so that’s all I could have eaten.

I’m bloated from being mid cycle - does anyone else get that? - so don’t expect any nice weight loss for a couple of days.

BrassicaBabe · 03/06/2020 18:54

Well, my leg of lamb was defrosted and cooked to perfection! DH still at work, so a quick google and it was also carved to perfection!!

Downside: I'm 47 and a pound or two from goal weight so I'm pretty sure that I ate too many calories to not see the effect of the lamb tomorrow! 🙄

BrassicaBabe · 03/06/2020 18:58

@DyingDeclaration once you get into the swing of LC you'll find you can exercise fasted. I'm in a bit of a dip at the moment, but last year I was training for a half marathon. All of my runs were on an ex moth stomach. Expect a few weeks of a dip in energy while your body adapts. But, def not bananas I'm afraid.

BIWI · 03/06/2020 19:48

This means that you're in ketosis though, so you're burning fat. Or have you been told that something is wrong at the clinic?

Well of course you can, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it! Grin

Intermittent fasting is easier when you're low carbing, because low carbing helps to curb your appetite.

Why don't you go and have a look at the recipes stickied on the Bootcamp topic, and use those to inspire you? You don't have to have cheese or yoghurt.

And keep posting here. The support (and general chat) will really help you.

Why did you think that a banana would be low carb?! Actually, of all the fruits you could have chosen, that's the worst one.

You don't need to carb load or 'fuel up' before you take exercise when you're low carbing. Low carbing switches your body into burning its own fat for fuel. You may find it hard while you transition from carb-burning to fat-burning, but I promise you it will get easier.

It's worth reading 'The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance' by Drs Vinny and Pholek - they explain the science behind this really well.
