Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

And do you know what I’m eyeing even harder? The tortilla chips and salsa. Angry

And quite frankly, the vodka.

What is it about sunny weekend afternoons that makes me think those choices might be a good idea for my weight loss and nutrition? Hmm

Ragwort · 30/05/2020 12:34

So motivating to read everyone's posts.

I am enjoying the 16:8 and am not hungry at all Blush, to be honest I can never really remember ever being hungry.

Yesterday I didn't eat until 2pm, the joys of having a teenage DS at home who managed to get a puncture on my three month old car, not really his fault but a decent apology would have helped.

The best thing for me is not drinking, I was easily drinking half a bottle of wine every night in lockdown, DH and I both love wine and it got too cosy just tucking into big meals with lots of wine. Last night we had our weekly Zoom quiz night with friends, which is always boozy, but I just had my water in a wine glass.

Today I've had a cheese and leek omelette with bacon for brunch and steak and salad planned for tonight. Off for a long walk.

I haven't actually weighed myself, I have about 3 stone to lose and I know how disheartening it can be to feel you have 'only' lost 2lbs or whatever. I can tell by my clothes that I am losing, I need to really readjust my eating habits and fit comfortably into all my size 12/14 clothes (currently 18/20) so that is my motivation, not the numbers on the scales.

OldLace · 30/05/2020 12:38

Ooof, I see that my 'lack of willpower' post has just come after @OneFootintheRave's
I don't mean to piggyback on that / derail the thread

I think it is a start that I have made the other changes.
I know where I'm going wrong.
And I intend to address that bit next!!!

@BIWI I need to go on to Bootcamp Light because I’m starting IVF - and while the consensus is very much that being at a healthy weight before you start is hugely important, and there’s strong evidence that low carb before IVF is beneficial particularly for women with hormone cycle issues like PCOS (which as far as we know is not an issue for us; male infertility) there is a chance (evidence so far inconclusive) that a low carb diet during IVF results in lower quality eggs.

BIWI · 30/05/2020 12:41

Yes, but Bootcamp Light is more relaxed than Bootcamp. This week has been a super strict week - not what we usually do. Next week is 'Bootcamp Ordinaire' as it has been dubbed, and I think this is what you mean. Only in the fifth/last week will we move on to Bootcamp Light.

Your pimms alternative tea with the mint and cucumber sounds lovely greengoose22b, what fruit tea do you use please?

Had a slightly weird dream as it had lots of my colleagues in, who I’ve not seen in weeks -
apart from zoom/Skype. Perhaps I’m missing them?

csa26 · 30/05/2020 12:44

To those hesitating before taking the teetotal plunge: I thought this would be a massive struggle. In fact, I’ve barely missed it and I’m sure I would have succumbed to temptation every evening if I’d had a glass of wine (and as @BIWI says after a glass of wine, you’re much more likely to say yes please to another glass of wine 😁). It’s also meant that other members of our household have seen the benefit as we’re not having alcohol with dinner. Give it a try I say. (One of the things I’ve been amazed by is how quickly I’ve got used to black coffee in the mornings, black loose leaf tea during the day, and loose leaf jasmine tea in the evenings - mmmm - although actually with the water requirements I’m drinking far less tea than previously as I’m usually full of water!)

csa26 · 30/05/2020 12:49

@BIWI I’m nervous about doing Bootcamp Ordinaire in my follicular phase, while my eggs are growing. I haven’t been able to find any advice that this wouldn’t adversely affect my egg quality - and there are some suggestions from studies and from anecdotes that it might. I’ve spent £3.5k on this cycle and I don’t want to have to do that again! Also more to the point, lower quality eggs results in lower quality embryos less likely to implant successfully, which is just a whole world of heartache and £££.

My first scan is on Monday so I can ask the nurse if she has any advice. But going by research that’s been published, I’d guess her advice will be to play it safe.

NumbsMet · 30/05/2020 12:56

Much MUCH better day today so far - felt queasy at first but remembered that yesterday I had bought some sea bass fillets with lemon and black pepper butter, so I excitedly ate those for breakfast - 382 calories in total.

Yesterday:
B - Sparkling water
L - three thin slices of cantaloupe (I know fruit is a no-no but it was that or nothing, so I opted to keep my metabolism going with a very low carb fruit option, won't make a habit of it)
D - turkey mince chilli con carne with soured cream, some salad and cheese.

Question: when you do enough exercise for MLP to add a positive calorie adjustment to your total, do you eat over 1000 calories to meet that adjustment? Or is the point to stick strictly to 1000 calories and the extra exercise will cause quicker weight loss? 🤔

NumbsMet · 30/05/2020 12:57

*MFP not MLP

prettybird · 30/05/2020 13:09

It's gone 1pm (although dh kindly suggested that I'd stopped eating at 8.30 as I didn't have any of the berries or tablet Halo) Grin so now I'm enjoying the left over green salad from last night Smile

BIWI · 30/05/2020 13:10

yes - don't eat your exercise calories!

OP posts:
myfuckingfreezer · 30/05/2020 13:17

I'm a lurker and not following bootcamp strict at the moment but have been eyeing this with interest - I've lost 3.5 stone since January and might need to do something to shake up my weight loss.

But I do do IF at 16:8 - does anyone else find that getting to 16 hours is hard, but once they have their hunger subsides? My eating window opened at 1pm, and despite being starving on wakeup at 8am, and again at about 11am, now I'm fine and happy to wait longer to eat!

Ninkanink · 30/05/2020 13:23

Lunch (first meal of the day, so technically breakfast).

Don’t know what we’ll have for dinner. Possibly smoked mackerel and courgette salad, possibly chicken with stir fried Chinese cabbage, or maybe pork chops with broccoli.

NumbsMet · 30/05/2020 13:37

@BIWI thank you Smile I actually haven't been eating the exercise calories so for once I've done the right thing!

I gave birth to twins nearly two years ago now and while that pregnancy obviously changed my body, I definitely didn't eat right since then and gained lots more weight. Yesterday I googled pictures of people's weight loss after having multiples and I learned that I can still work towards having a much flatter stomach Smile so I feel inspired to keep going!!

OneFootintheRave · 30/05/2020 14:08

My lunch, first meal of the day.

50g homemade beef meatball. 10 g grilled chicken thigh chunk leftover from last night. 50g homemade coleslaw with Hellman's mayo and a chopped walnut. 3 pimientos de padron, 50g tomato and lettuce to make wraps.

Really tasty and 280 cals and only 4g carbs.

Something with tuna and eggs tonight Smile

@NumbsMet I'm trying to lose weight after just having the one but can already see a difference! The scales say I'm only 2lb down so far, but I can see my c section scar in the mirror for the first time (instead of having to lift up the shelf first 🤦‍♀️)

NumbsMet · 30/05/2020 14:38

@Hopeislost see I thought I was being silly, I've only lost 3lb but my straps keep falling off my shoulders and I keep shrugging it off thinking 3lb wouldn't make me see a difference. It's very reassuring that you're seeing changes already! That's more important than the numbers on the scales I'm sure. I'm dreaming of wearing one of my pre-pregnancy dresses for Christmas Smile x

Puppermint · 30/05/2020 14:38

Anyone have a nice burger recipe that would work well on a bbq? Shop was decimated so had to buy mince instead of ready made but I’m not quite sure where to start! Only ones I’ve ever made before have fallen apart or tasted of nothing!

prettybird · 30/05/2020 14:48

I make burgers with some shallots, garlic, an egg, salt and pepper - and a generous amount of Worcestershire sauce and some olive oil. Possibly some added cumin & coriander.

Or instead of the Worcestershire sauce, I'll add grated Parmesan and oregano.

In both cases I make them in advance and leave them to "set" in the fridge.

BrassicaBabe · 30/05/2020 15:02

Numbsnet Fellow twin mum here. Mine at nearly 9. I can't remember when it got easier. But it definitely did! Kids, not dieting!

I'm always pretty pleased with my burger recipe Pupper
1lb mince
1egg
Squirt of Tom ketchup
About a tablespoon of grain mustard
Splosh or Worcestershire sauce.

L; last portion or celery soup and a pepperami
D: bbq. So saving calorie!
Exercise: 5k run with a friend at 2m. Don't want to criticise but it was ridiculously slow. So did an 8k cycle ride to book.

Def not eating my exercise calories. I really want to knock off 1.8lb to see the magic 9.

Hopeislost · 30/05/2020 15:02

@Puppermint I find the key things are adding an egg to bind, really squeezing the meat into shape, and chilling them in the fridge beforehand.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 30/05/2020 15:23

Didn't eat until 2.30pm today. I seem to be managing OK on IF 20 hours of fasting.

L Mozzarella and avocado salad with apple cider vinegar and EVOO
D Giant meatballs with tomato, herb, garlic and onion sauce, baked in the oven with cheddar cheese. Spaghetti for everyone else and I'll either have more salad or cauli & broccoli rice.

1 cup coffee and cream and 1/2 a lc bar

My window of eating will slam shut at 6.30pm prompt Grin

Not enough water today but I'll try and increase that.

BIWI · 30/05/2020 15:27

All I do is mix mince with salt and pepper! Make sure you buy high fat mince. Sometimes I add more olive oil as well.

Once you've put them on the barbecue resist the temptation to keep turning them. Just cook one side till nicely browned, and then turn.

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 30/05/2020 15:28

Oh yes you definitely need high fat mince for a good burger.
