Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

Morning! Another one amazed at how un-hungry I felt on waking this morning. To be honest I felt starving when I went to bed, so the lack of hunger and peaceful feeling this morning was brilliant.

Have a feeling that the next couple of days are going to be no problem, but the weekend is going to throw up issues with an invite to socially distant picnic in the park. Will need to make a decision- a) don't go b) go but drive and take Pre packed food c) go and hope for the best- this is the option I'd usually take and the one most likely to fail!

BIWI · 27/05/2020 10:51

@Wormthatturned

she was really so pleased to see me and had made a special lunch to eat in the garden with homemade bread and cake. It's so unusual for her to 'treat' me with food and she'd made so much effort that I shut up, smiled and took a small sandwich, little slice of cake and enjoyed seeing her. It was a lovely time.

That does sound lovely - and FWIW I think you did exactly what you should have done. Things happen like this - it's called life! - and there are always circumstances where you just have to go with the flow.

@csa26, @NoraEphronsneck and @CalendulaAndRoses - sounds like you're suffering from carb flu. Did you read my post about it?

OP posts:
BIWI · 27/05/2020 10:52

to repeat:

Carb (or keto) flu

It's possible that over the next day or so, some of you might start to feel a bit ropey.

Before you panic and start to think you're coming down with Covid-19, it's most likely that you're suffering from carb flu.

Here's a great piece from The Diet Doctor about it, its symptoms and how to deal with it link in original post upthread

The key thing is maintaining your balance of electrolytes - sodium, magnesium and potassium.

Sodium:

This is key - make sure you're cooking with salt and also putting it on your food. In the immediate term, try a hot drink made with Oxo or Bovril or Marmite.

Magnesium and potassium you can get from foods like salmon, avocado, full fat natural yoghurt, spinach and mushrooms.

You could also use Lo-Salt, which contains potassium.

If you like, you can also buy an electrolyte tablet, called Zero link in original post upthread , which is made by High5. It does contain artificial sweeteners, but in extremis it's fine!

@venusandmars good point about food waste. I think also, going into lockdown when we were worried about food supplies/going shopping, I was much more careful about using things up. I am guilty of throwing too much stuff away (if not putting it in my mouth!)

Did anyone else do Joe Wicks this morning? It was brutal! Did my best to keep up but was pretty sweaty by the end!

I've bought myself a 500ml mug so I can keep up my water with extra large cups of herbal tea. Started the day with a coconut one, which was lovely.

csa26 · 27/05/2020 11:03

I have been using plenty of salt and I’ve never really had carb flu before. Possibly trying to keep within the calorie limit is stopping me from having as much avocado, spinach etc as I normally would (smoked salmon is normally a favourite too).

About to cook up a breakfast of scrambled eggs, avocado and salmon Smile although I know that’s going to make it hard for me to stay within the calorie limit!

We only calorie count this week, right? I may have to go BC light from next week anyway as starting IVF and don’t know how it might affect things like egg development.

PseudoBadger · 27/05/2020 11:15

@PastramiNoRye we did! It was great - I do lower impact move for all the jumping but keep everything else the same.

JustFrigginNameChange · 27/05/2020 11:18

Morning all! I had breakfast about an hour ago (scrambled eggs with cheese and butter, with some veg).

I'm unsure as to what to make for dinner, so i'm going to have a scroll through the bootcamp recipe doc.

I can't go shopping until after perhaps 2pm as I have a parcel to wait in for. It's going to be a long day!

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/05/2020 11:19

@devoncreamtea
Yes, thanks. I think that’s a good idea. I tried cooking with coconut oil in the past but it was the extra virgin stuff and my food tasted too sweet. I bought some flavourless now so I’m going to have a go cooking with it.

PastramiNoRye · 27/05/2020 11:19

@PseudoBadger I did really enjoy it! It's always a bit calamitous trying to do the skaters in quite a small living room with a 4yr old and a 6 yr old!

I agree on the high impact stuff. The jumping jacks are fine, but lunges have always been harder on my knees and I don't trust adding jumps in there too!

Ifeelfat · 27/05/2020 11:34

Wormthatturned lovely to hear that about having lunch with your mum.
I lost my mum back in September last year - she’d always been really active and busy but cancer got her at 81, she should have had more. What you said about yours being so pleased to see you really resonated with me, she will have enjoyed your lunch and time together so much.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 27/05/2020 11:36

oooooh, i have a headache.
NEVER get headaches.
non-ignorable sign that my low carb diet had in fact slipped dramatically Hmm
going with pretty's DIY advice of salt and lemon juice in water.
and am i FUCK entering that on MFP Grin

1Wildheartsease · 27/05/2020 11:37

@mummyoflittledragon have you tried coconut oil whisked into coffee (in place of butter or cream)? Sounds horrible but my son introduced it to me as he loves it. The flavoured stuff tastes quite different when in the coffee; you might like the new flavour.

GladysNarracott · 27/05/2020 11:44

Good morning all am I too late to join?

My name's already on the spreadsheet so I've updated with my weight. Also took my measurements last night, they don't make for very good reading!
Been on the treadmill this morning and had 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Thank you BIWI and AthelstaneTheUnready (and anyone else I might have missed) for doing this. You've obviously put a lot of work into it.

Laska2Meryls · 27/05/2020 11:46

Yesterday was good food wise, 2 egg mushroom and small slice smoked salmon scramble at midday and ratatouille mozzarella bake for dinner. Black teaand coffee only this morning and im still not hungry yet. But oh I feel so fat today , like im wearing a fat suit.
I need to do some exercise , ( but its the one thing that I really hate, havent ever found anything that I enjoy or am at all good at
I could possibly get my bike out.. DH is on at me to go out with him cycling, but thats not happening...he whizzes up hills and I have to walk. (And get miserable about it).

Laska2Meryls · 27/05/2020 11:47

I like walking though ..

BIWI · 27/05/2020 12:02

Go walking then! Do whatever you enjoy as there's much more chance of you sticking to it

Wormthatturned · 27/05/2020 12:04

@BIWI thanks.@Ifeelfat sorry to hear about your mum, thanks for your reply.
Got me thinking about enjoying non-food things in bootcamp - and in life! Hope you all find something lovely to enjoy today.

PrimalLass · 27/05/2020 12:04

Can't remember who said that, @PrimalLass, but whoever it was - I hope that you've given up the sugar now?!!! I also had a think about grapefruit juice when I was pregnant. I used to drink it mixed with slimline tonic as it made a really refreshing, not-too-sweet drink.

Well my daughter is now 12 so I no longer have the excuse... Although there are some studies on grapefruit for weightloss. Plus I used it to help get pregnant in the first place.

JustFrigginNameChange · 27/05/2020 12:10

@PrimalLass Grapefruit juice does sound amazing right about now! drools

Lucky for me, Aldi doesn't sell it

TheClitterati · 27/05/2020 12:25

12 o'clock brunch of mushrooms, asaparagus, bit of bacon, egg and tiny bit of cheddar. Cooked in butter. Delicious.

Last night we ate a bit late as I worked late. I need to watch out for this as by the time I was sitting down to eat I was ravenous though feeling OK, but I wanted to eat and eat and eat. From memory of the last BC I think this might settle down after a few days?

venusandmars · 27/05/2020 12:33

Laska2Meryls I got an electric bike - revolutionary for cycling with dh. He is an uber fit cyclist with an eyewateringly expensive bike that is light as a feather. One turn of the pedals would have him sailing off into the distance Angry I would be puffing and panting miles behind, sweating and swearing. All the time muttering under my breath "I hate cycling, I hate cycling" Now I get ahead of him and wait for dh to catch up Grin

I know it's not the same as a big cardiovascular workout but it keeps me moving and is a hell of a lot better for my mood and mental health.

BrassicaBabe · 27/05/2020 12:34

Didn't manage my 10K steps yesterday. After my 24k bike ride DS wanted to ride out too. So did another gentle 5k cycle with him. Hope that excuses me. However I was starving. Very unusual for me. I ate my planned chicken leg, then cleaned up DDs left over one too. So will have broke my calorie bank yesterday by a bit. Also 1lb up Hmm

Plan for today:
L: celery soup as late as possible (working at the moment so I can just keep going)
D: 2 poached eggs with cheese, buttered leeks
Exercise: 5k run
That should be 786 cals and 10g of carbs. Might squeeze in a small snack based on that calorie count.

Laska2Meryls · 27/05/2020 12:44

VenusandMars good move!! ( I may look some up) .Dh will think its cheating .. but really so what?
I actually do like going out on my bike, but the pootling down the river track on a nice day sort.. before we moved here I actually used it for commuting, but it always seemed that the wing was against you in the morning and in the evening !!

SquishyBones · 27/05/2020 12:57

I had a sneaky peak on the scales at work this morning ... 😱😱 I’m praying they’re not wrong.

(Better not be considering they’re NHS lol)
