Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

Also have never eaten an avocado unless tiny bits in a prepared salad so I'm not sure what is best way to ease myself in to properly liking it.

Notlostjustexploring · 26/05/2020 14:38

I feel like I'm nailing it today so far. Black coffee til lunch, a brief lunchtime jog, and a good lunch. I'm still in gym wear, so may do a second brief jog. I've also discovered some leftover salmon that I'd forgotten about, so parmesan crusted salmon and garlic buttery mushrooms for dinner calls!!

It's feeling quite good to be actively in control of something. Since lockdown began I've just been passive and reactive, so I've had a wonderful mind shift. Hopefully it lasts!!

Nosey - what is sausage chaffle?

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 26/05/2020 14:39

Tough starting on a a sunny bank holiday.

I caved in & drank gin last night so empty calories but still kept the day below 1000.

But no more now until the weekend.

I've stayed off the sugar free squash though.

SquishyBones · 26/05/2020 14:41

Coffee with cream for breakfast
Left over fish pie for lunch
Slow cooked chicken masala for dinner.

Just doing my asda order now for Friday onwards. I love the food on low carb ☺️

SquishyBones · 26/05/2020 14:45

What is everyone having for dinner for the rest of the week? I need some ideas for next week

Ninkanink · 26/05/2020 14:53

General plan here for the next few days is mainly salads, due to the warm weather:

Tonight: Saint Agur and chicory salad.

Lamb and cumin patties with a fennel and preserved lemon salad.

Chicken, bacon and avocado salad.

Smoked mackerel and courgette salad.

whitershadeofpale · 26/05/2020 14:57

Tonight is omelette Arnold Bennet with salad, tomorrow is chicken kebabs and Greek salad and Thursday is prawn, chorizo and cabbage stir fry. It’s payday so we’ll do a big shop on Friday and see what’s for the rest of the week/ weekend.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/05/2020 15:10

does anyone else have disturbed sleeping when they start fasting and give up starchy carbs - sometimes I have this and sometimes I don't but last night woke up about 3/4 times which is unusual for me

I get keto insomnia really badly. It settles down and then I need an hour less sleep than I need when I eat carbs. If I have a break, I go back to sleeping longer. No idea why.

adviceatthislatestage · 26/05/2020 15:15

thinkaboutittomorrow* You are so right about it being tough to start on a sunny Bank Holiday.

My boot camp began today at 7am with a 45mins insanity workout. Did the whole programme a few years ago and felt great, but today was hard. Am carrying at least a stone and half extra, so jumping and running around was exhausting.

Have downloaded the BodyFast app, to keep that side of things on track. Nothing till lunch just now which was scrambled egg made with butter and a dash of cream.

Have drunk 2.2l of water and aiming for that again by the end of the day.

Dinner will be a huge Greek salad.

prettybird · 26/05/2020 15:22

Jofish26 - was it full fat Greek yoghurt you tried? You can add some double cream to it - but I find the Lidl one creamy enough without it. I also add a pinch of cinnamon to it - I happen to like cinnamon a lot and it apparently also has health and insulin benefits. Smile Other things that can be added (although I have t tried them myself) are cocoa powder, vanilla powder (I believe available at Waitrose but I've never had any) or a tiny bit of vanilla paste.

Jofish26 · 26/05/2020 15:39

@prettybird yes it was full fat Greek yoghurt. Will try it with some of your suggestions, thank you :)

Rshard · 26/05/2020 15:42

Salad on the dinner menu here too squishybones.

I’ve had the vanilla powder jofish26, it’s quite expensive but you don’t need much of it so it goes a long way.

BrassicaBabe · 26/05/2020 15:47

24k bike ride done (I live in a very flat part of the country!) Still only 2300 steps though

PseudoBadger · 26/05/2020 15:48

A few boot camps ago people were adding orange oil to Greek yoghurt - is that still ok?

LostaraYil · 26/05/2020 15:56

I've had keto insomnia before, and it was scary, I needed so little sleep. Magnesium and 5HT supplements helped a bit. I only sleep 6h a night anyway, but I'll see what happens after a few weeks of ketosis.

Velocity · 26/05/2020 16:12

I'm kick-starting this bootcamp with a 3-day egg fast modified to fit our Bootcamp rules. At the end of yesterday, calorie count was a bit high 1131 calories but carbs came in a 1.3. I had a late afternoon bullet coffee that tipped me over the calorie edge - it would have been better just to have a fried egg. Lesson learned from yesterday!

Patapouf · 26/05/2020 16:40

A chaffle is a mix of 1 egg and a cup of grated cheese cooked in a waffle maker. It is pretty high in cals because of the cheese, but nicely LCHF. I use it as a sort of bread replacement and had it with sliced sausages, lettuce and mayo for lunch.

They are good for a BLT too. I like to mix different things into the egg/cheese like herbs or sesame seeds if its for a burger.

Notlostjustexploring · 26/05/2020 16:48

Chaffles sound amazing!!! I've no waffle maker but I've a dinky frying pan that might work. I'm now salivating at the prospect of a cheesy eggy sausage sandwich or burger.

I love all the new discoveries of magical ways cheese and eggs work together.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/05/2020 16:52

Breakfast : mixed stir fry with prawns and some coconut yoghurt

Snack : a few slices of salami

Dinner : bloody delicious shepherd’s pie with celeriac / leek mash from the google doc

Total calories - 1006
Carb - 35 (accidentally added up total not net carb so this will be lower)

I’ve finished my 8 hour eating window today. The only thing I haven’t eaten is some coconut oil. But I can’t stomach right now. May have a spoonful later (for collagen issue).

Yesterday I didn’t post my day. My carb total was around 32 but again that was total carb rather than eliminating non digestible. I ate around 250 calories in coconut oil, which took me to circa 1280 total.

I’m not restricting myself to the 1000 as I can’t for health reasons. But am adding up out of curiosity as to how many I’m eating.

Made banana loaf for dd today; I did well and resisted...

PseudoBadger · 26/05/2020 16:57

It has been decreed that we will BBQ for dinner. Therefore although I will manage 16:8 and full BC rules, I won’t be on 1000kcal today

TheClitterati · 26/05/2020 17:10

Lovely bike ride down to local beach and swim at lunchtime. 2nd day swimming in a row. We all enjoy it so will keep that up at least while the weather is fine. I get a bit of a buzz from it afterwards. Still can't do front crawl which is my preferred stroke - combo of the water is very cold on my face, I can't keep an eye on DC wearing goggles as I'm shortsighted, and not being able to see very far in the water kind of freaks me out. So I'm just doing heads up breastroke, sidestroke, back stroke, a bit of water treading and my knee high walking while doing shoulder exercises in the water.

Managed to get to 11 ish without eating OK and then had last nights leftover salad with half a avocado, bit of leftover feta and a couple of cold (carb free) sausages.

Butter chicken for dinner - I have it with brocolli & homemade coleslaw, DC have with rice & coleslaw.

I did have the urge to snack last night - it was good to know "its after 8 so no eating" rather than "you can't have that". Psychologically its different. I know from last bootcamp that urge will fade the further away from carbs I get.

DC are having movie marathon upstairs - lots of homemade popcorn is involved, but they have promised it will all be over & cleaned up before I finish work.

Hopeislost · 26/05/2020 17:13

I went to the butchers earlier and bought some pork ribs. Really looking forward to having some of the fattier cuts of meat!

I'm going to get out the food processor and have a go at making a low carb coleslaw to go with it. Am thinking courgette, broccoli, small amount of onion with full fat mayo.

Need to work out carbs, not counting calories due to breastfeeding.

Hopeislost · 26/05/2020 17:15

Ooh crosspost! @TheClitterati what do you put in your low carb coleslaw?

CalendulaAndRoses · 26/05/2020 17:15

oooh, what delicious food you are all eating/planning! I also love the sound of chaffles. Definitely gonna try those.

Managed to hold out on black coffee and water til 1pm, then had an avodaco and some delicious leek soup for lunch. Followed by couple of spoons of lush FF yoghurt (local dairy). Fresh lemon balm tea saw me through the afternoon and I've made my first ever fish pie based on a mixture of recipes in the spreadsheet. It smells frigging AMAZING out in the kitchen and I can't wait to eat it in about an hour!!

I am tired now though, after waking up at 5.30 and starting work then (wonder was that the keto insomnia kicking in? - I usually just turn right over and go straight back to sleep at that hour). Have a niggling headache too.

Gonna drink more water - hopefully that'll help. Have done 2l so far need to add another litre.

Exercise is my nemesis today - I find the stationary bike really boring but it is extremely hill all around me. I used to like running but my knees and hips are nadgered. I did 20 mins stretching/yoga earlier, might do a long walk later...if I don't fall asleep first.

Suspect my cals high today as used cream and cheese in the fish pie but I am starving so feel I need it - and it is very low carb so that'll do me tbh

BIWI · 26/05/2020 17:23

@ThinkAboutItTomorrow

I caved in & drank gin last night so empty calories but still kept the day below 1000.

Yesterday was Day 1! And you couldn't even go without a drink on the first day?!

What we're trying to do with low carb is to switch our bodies into fat-burning mode. However, the easiest source of fuel for the body is alcohol - so all the while you're drinking it, you will be only burning that.

You're sabotaging yourself by doing that.
