You know the drill: weigh-in; update the Spreadsheet; let us know how you've done. Everyone fall in!

Been very quiet and lurking of late

Am good all week and then seem to slip up and binge eat on the weekend.

Have made a conscious effort to cut out dairy the last two days as that seems to be my biggest downfall (I'm looking at you double and clotted cream).

So I'm going back to BC basics and trying to remember why it is I've started doing this.

Public Service Announcement

Just spotted on the Kindle Daily Deal that the politician Tom Watson's book Downsizing is 99p today. I've downloaded, not read it yet but I know he lost 8 stone low-carbing and has become a real advocate for this WoE. Should be interesting I hope.

RozHuntleysStump · 26/02/2020 13:08

Just had cauliflower and broccoli with a low carb sauce I made. The recipe was all in bloody cup sizes so not sure the amounts were right. It wasn’t too bad at all tbh. Very rich! Got a bit of sauce left for tomorrow.

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2020 20:30

No need to always be cooking separate stuff, and it doesn't do the kids any harm not have potatoes every once in a while!

This is so true, BIWI. It’s great to expose the family to different recipes and some might not like it but you won’t know until after several tries.

Here, 3 out of 4 love celeriac chips. The fourth can skip it if he likes but I’ll still serve it for all—and not provide his preference because I’m only one woman ffs— in the same way I’ll cook mash sometimes except one won’t eat mash because loves chips more, or make gravy that the “dry-eater” doesn’t eat (not my problem) or cook peas as main veg for the one who only tolerates peas.

Not saying we need to insist everyone must eat LCHF, but it’s a good reason to expose the family to new dishes.

I’m fairly certain I’ve made myself sound horrid in some ways, but I did a few alternate dinners to suit everyone years ago and quickly learned it wasn’t doing them any good. Nor me.

For the record, I do take all preferences into meals but sometimes it doesn’t go their way. There’s a fish pie in the freezer for tomorrow night that 5 out of 6 will love. I will make brilliant veg as well. That’s good enough for me, and for them.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 26/02/2020 20:31

Beef stew didn't defrost in time so will have that tomorrow.
I whipped up a quick chicken breasts with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, sprinkled with cheddar, served with broccoli, green beans and cauliflower mash.

It went down a treat.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 26/02/2020 20:33

shag
Dietary choice here is limited already, what with DS2 being coeliac and allergic to tomatoes!
Now DS1 is older, he will sometimes have a later tomato based meal with me, but it isn't often as I tend to cook and eat as a family.
I've been shopping and bought heck sausages. Gluten free and low carb! Win win!

Rayna37 · 26/02/2020 20:51

Hungrier than usual today but fortunately nothing to hand that wasn't planned.
B: mushrooms sautéed in butter and truffle oil with 2 eggs cracked on the top then the lid put on until cooked
Snack of nuts
L: chicken Caesar salad, Greek yogurt
D: salmon and FLGV, 1square 85% choc

New low (for this BC) on the scales this morning and also a NSV (non-victory actually) when I had to change my trousers yesterday as so baggy they looked too scruffy for meetings!

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2020 21:25

moleeye, yay! Just like Cheddar’s “cheesy” inspirational poster said! (See photo)

HerRoyal I sort of get it. We have a lactose intolerant, a possible nut allergy, a raw fruit dweller, and sometimes pescatarian in our household. Cooking for a family meal isn’t always easy. You’re doing great.

Rayna I’m imagining you in scruffy, baggy trousers and please may I have breakfast at yours soon?

MrsBertBibby · 27/02/2020 07:47

Yowsers! 12 6 1/2. New low for this year, and cracked 12 1/2 stone!

Next goal, 12s 4, my low weight from last summer (and at least 5 years)

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/02/2020 07:48

Sneaky weigh this morning. I'm 2lb down. 2lb in 3 days! GrinGrinGrin

Breakfast: cheese, ham and lettuce roll.

Lunch: this is going to be tricky. I'm at my mum's house and I've tried explaining low carb to her but she's convinced you must do what the NHS says and it's all fats fault. That and me not exercising (I use crutches daily and I now have a wheelchair for longer trips that I can't manage in crutches!) Don't get me wrong I do as much as I can, but sometimes it's physically impossible.

Dinner: the beef stew that I was supposed to have last night, that didn't defrost! It's now defrosted and ready to heat up.later. will have it with cauliflower and Swede mash seeing as the cauli mash went down so well with the kids. Anything to get a bit more veg into them!

Notwatchingtvtoday · 27/02/2020 08:40

I seem to be 1 lb up not sure why and I know to KOKO now.

Today
B Greek yogurt
L eggs (first time this week)
D slow roasted pork belly, have not made it before so any advice gratefully received

Water ....

CheddarGorgeous · 27/02/2020 08:44

Today's plan:

B - sausage and egg
L - some kind of salad
D - burger with cheese and salad

Thank you to whoever mentioned the Tom Watson book deal on Kindle. I read about half overnight. He talks compellingly about the sugar industry. The sugar scandal is off the scale. It's crazy that government hasn't intervened more. I'm a casualty in that war as many of us are. For me I'm "lucky" that it's just about a fucked up attitude to food. And on the radio today they talked about an 18% rise in diabetes related foot and toe amputations in the last 4 years Sad

Almahart · 27/02/2020 10:09

NSV some pants that were too tight are now quite comfy!

Late breakfast of lc bread (3.8g), pate, celery and cornichons.

Very filling, not planning to eat until evening when I have planned pork, swede mash and FLGV

venusandmars · 27/02/2020 11:14

almahart I got rid of a collection of old pants that are now decidedly baggy round my bottom. I still struggle to buy things in a much smaller size but at least the new pants have tighter material since they haven't been stretched to buggery!

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/02/2020 12:04

I've convinced her that I'd much prefer my poached egg on a bed of salad leaves instead of on toast.
She's Hmm at me, but considering I've lost 2lb in 3 days, she is reluctantly letting me.

venusandmars · 27/02/2020 12:12

Royal keep on going, the proof of the pudding is in the eating or not eating, in this case

As well as weight, can you also keep a journal of other key information e.g. measurements, joint pain, mobility, mood, blood pressure, blood sugar - which ever ones are important to you. That way YOU can be certain that this way of life is good for your overall health. Maybe in the longer term your Mum can be convinced that it's right for you too, but maybe not, and the most important thing is that you have confidence in your choices.

Almahart · 27/02/2020 14:26

Had yummy late lunch of a big garlicky green salad with feta. Could have benefited from a hard boiled egg.

OptimisticSix · 27/02/2020 14:27

Also had a sneaky weigh in today, was 134.4lbs which is the lowest I've been in years. Anyway I wanted to say thank you all because although I don't post much, every time I feel like being a carby twat I come and read these threads repeatedly and feel re inspired Flowers

MrsBertBibby · 27/02/2020 18:20

Well done Optimistic! Keep it up.

And well done Royal. Mothers can be so damn hard!

RozHuntleysStump · 27/02/2020 19:02

I could murder a low carb kitkat

venusandmars · 27/02/2020 19:41

I discovered we had an aubergine in our veg box, so the planned meatzza turned into the IPD moussaka. Oh so delicious!

Doilooklikeatourist · 27/02/2020 20:08

Had an over ambitious fast this morning ( as v busy at work yesterday , and by the time I had time to eat last night , I was so tired I couldn’t face anything ) and then , this morning I didn’t have time to eat until about 10 am , by which time I felt so awful I was nearly tearful , I won’t be doing that again!

Brunch . Lovely 3 egg omlette with bacon , butter and cheese ( in my very nice new pan from TKMaxx
D chicken breast with celariac gratin , cauli cheese , and stir fried mushrooms, spinach and leeks

Loads of water , hot water and lemon , and about to have a camomile tea

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/02/2020 21:08

The kids want burgers for tea tomorrow.
No problem. I have low carb burgers and obviously I won't be having a brioche bun, but what can I have as a low carb side?
Throw any ideas at all at me. I usually make sweet potato fries for the kids, but hoping I can get an alternative that we will all eat.

BIWI · 27/02/2020 21:21

Why not fry some Halloumi slices? Or, you could make 'chips' from celeriac or swede. Not quite the same - they won't go as crispy as potato - but they're very tasty.

You could also serve all the bits and pieces that might go in a burger as separate 'sides' - so allowing everyone to make their own burger. Sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, grated/sliced cheese, gherkins, thinly sliced onions, etc.
